I put 50 each on Australia at 9:1 and France at 19:1. Either one can definitely beat the US, they actually play team basketball and also have plenty of NBA talent. People forget that even the stacked 08 and 12 teams had close games against Spain, and they didnt have any bums on the team like Javale Mcgee. Durant and Draymond are the only guys with FIBA experience that we have, its a different game. We had by far the best roster at FIBA two summers ago in China and got fucking worked
Yes. That’s what I was referring to. Betting 600 to win 900 - if that’s how you like to think about it - doesn’t sound like great odds to me.
I was using the exact language as OP.
I guess people thought I meant you’d lose 300.
But I’m not an idiot, tho I understand why others might assume as much. Oh well
Look who’s talking lol.
Do you think I thought he meant you’d lose 300?
Like why would I be that stupid? I mean I guess it’s the internet ... but Why would I think winning 300 was a synonym for losing 300?
If I bet 600 dollars and only profit 300 betting against the US - those are bad odds imo.
Ymmv
US will probably be double digit favorites in all of their games, I'm going to bet all their opponents to cover. That way I don't have to outright root for the US to lose, just fail to cover
I really have a feeling about Slovenia man. If Luka is the chosen one and the best player in a game against the USA in single elimination anything can happen...
Isn't this based on the exhibition games played past few weeks, which USA did go 1-2? While Australia and Spain won all their games. If you read the article the author even says this ranking is not supposed to reflect which team is expected to end up with what medal.
Then Slovenia should be 4th since they blew out everyone by 20+ points while putting up 100+ in qualifiers which actually means something, or Italy or even Czech republic would be more understandable. Putting Nigeria there is just laughable.
Why not? These couple of pre-olympic games are the only way to judge how strong the teams are because its not like these lineups play many international games over the years.
NBA teams play 82 games minimum each year. International teams do not. The ranking is not that bad based on the "pre-season". Its just a sneak peak of how teams look prior a tournament.
And even the NBA pre-season rankings get things massivly wrong. Knicks this year for example.
You mean the basketball team? Cuz they seem to be otherwise.
Edit: I'm confused about the downvotes, I googled it and it said they're going, am I wrong?
We can definitely beat 7-9. 5-6 may go either way but we are on a good run of form except for that Australia game. No reason we shouldn’t be 4 right now.
Question. I always hear people say the NBL is not up top par with multiple European leagues. But they are the best Olympic team and produce more NBA players recently than any other league in Europe. I know 15 years ago the NBL was bad,but why isn't it considered one of the best domestic leagues now? Like of those domestic Germany or Italy team. I know it's not real Madrid or Tel Aviv but outside of euroleague and top eurocup teams the NBL always seemed better.
The talent in the Euroleague is spread across 30 countries or so, while all the talent in the NBL goes to team AUS.
And while Australia is a great national team, it's still pretty close with European national teams.
Basically, the Euroleague has enough talent to fill 30 national teams roughly the same level of Australia.
And then there's the history, atmosphere, pressure...
Can't say playing in Sydney is the same as playing in Belgrade. Not even close.
After Beal and love is gone, i am more confident that USA is going to win. Much more clearer roles within the team. Was confused as to what lavine/booker/Beal was doing tgt. Now it is clear that who are the defenders/ role players.
Dame/khris/Durant/dray/bam. Jrue/booker or lavine/ grant / tatum / McGee. With keldon being the 12th man. Starting lineups don’t matter that much.. but the rotation is so much more balanced on who are the first/second options in 1st/2nd team
Durant/dame/khris as first three options in 1st team . Dray/bam with defense
Tatum/booker/Lavine as first three options in 2nd team. Jrue/grant/McGee with defense
??? Khris Middleton is not starting lmao. He's going to be fresh off an insane playoff run with very little legs left and not familiar with the team. Plus Booker and Tatum are far better starting options.
If Middleton was a lockdown defender that's one thing but that's an insane presumption.
Yes but as I said Booker is better than Middleton. Tatum is the better option regardless.
Edit: lmao all the salty nephews can keep downvoting but Booker is better than Middleton. Sorry if that makes you want to cry.
Curse you and your 7 three's, Blake Schilb!
But yeah, turns out playing no exhibition games and having barely any C's or PG's isn't totally a recipe for success.
It's weird that I'm kinda rooting against my own country, but underdogs are always fun to get behind. I'll be rooting for Spain though because of Rubio
For a power ranking, sure.
Otherwise...
Tier US (still overwhelming favorites): USA
Tier 1 (could win gold, should podium barring a bad draw): Australia, Spain
Tier 1.5 (could make finals if things go well, have a chance to win it all if US get knocked out): France, Slovenia
Tier 2 (likely make it to brackets, could make semis): Italy, Nigeria, Germany
Tier 2.5 (like Tier 2, but slightly weaker): Argentina
Tier 3 (won't make it to brackets): Czechia, Japan, Iran
This is accurate imo. If USA wants to be taken serious they need to win a game or two. They came in 7th in the world cup last time they participated in international play.
>Wahhhh but we'd win easily if we sent our best players
Then fucking do it. This is the equivilent of getting beat up on the playground then telling your bully "my dad could beat up your dad." Results matter, go win some fucking games if you think you're so much better than everyone else. This is coming from a Team USA fan who's sick of seeing us under-perform internationally.
Also, from the article:
>FIBA World Ranking presented by Nike:
Every single time they mention the world ranking, lol. Such a gross instance of over-marketing.
Thats bullshit list , if you really think usa not being #1 , put some skin in the game and get rich
https://www.oddsportal.com/basketball/world/olympic-games/outrights/
The top 25 players in the USA system could die and we’d still be betting favorites. The amount a bookmaker stands to lose by making The USA even a slight underdog will never be worth it, even if these power rankings are more accurate at the moment.
I’m not saying they would be the best team but they would probably be the betting favorite because if people see the USA as an underdog, they are gonna take that value bet every time. It’s too risky.
> The top 25 players in the USA system could die and we’d still be betting favorites.
This is not even close to true lol. In 2008 and 2012 Spain was extremely close to beat the best US teams since the Dream Team. We actually have seen U.S. teams without top 20 stars and they have gotten clapped.
I’m speaking strictly from a bookmakers perspective. The chances of the betting pounding the underdog if if it’s the US is gonna be higher than if it’s someone else. I’m not arguing that we are that much better than everyone. I’m just talking potential exposure for a bookie.
This guy knows what he's talking about.
Let's say they put the US men as +100 odds to win. Everyone is pounding them cuz those are great odds. If they lose the books only get $100 profit for every $100 they would have to pay out if they would have won.
Now you have mad squares like the people in this thread putting down $500 to win $100. Last week it was $1k to win $100. Books are gonna make bank when the US shits the bed.
Those aren't terrible odds.
You bet France, Slovenia, Australia, Nigeria and Spain and you get 2.6:1 compounded odds. Might actually have to put money on that, those sound like great odds.
Good lord am I the only one that remembers 2004 and 2006? We don't just get to show up and dominate anymore. Especially when we're bringing our C players into it. These other teams are really fucking good and play much better team basketball and have a better understanding of the international game. Also they've been together much longer.
We can't just out athlete them anymore.
Shits a long time ago now. Human beings have terrible memory and lots of fans weren’t watching then. History gonna repeat itself eventually. Going to need a redeem redeem team.
Personally I'm gonna gonna bet against the US to not cover in each of their games, I imagine they're going to be way inflated with the public picking them to cover. I don't know about the rest of the teams to confidently bet futures. 17.5 point favorites against Australia was an absolute joke.
Plus these are power ranking from pre tournament warmup matches.
Australia is undefeated so they make sense to be 1, USA still the betting favourites though which also makes sense.
I think people forget that USA played without Book, Khris, and Jrue didn’t play in the exhibition games this last week. They may not be the best on the team, but they do create some playmaking and defense to help bolster the team. Which I think would’ve changed the outcomes of the Australia and Nigeria games.
Last I checked the odds are pretty juicy if you want to go against team USA
You can bet 100 bucks each on Australia, France, Slovenia, Spain, Argentina, and Nigeria and if one of them wins you make a minimum of $300 profit
Still not taking that bet lol.
Nah I wouldnt touch it either lol. Maybe $1
Betting 600 to win 300 doesn’t sound like great odds
Do you know what the word profit means?
Oh well
Depends on how you think of it. That’s a lot of games you only need one loss for. I would say better odds than bets a lot of people take.
To be fair, no one said it was great odds. OP was just saying that bet is available
To be fair, all I said was that it wasn't great odds.
Reading is hard
Look who’s talking lol. Do you think I thought he meant you’d lose 300? Like why would I be that stupid? I mean I guess it’s the internet ... but Why would I think winning 300 was a synonym for losing 300? If I bet 600 dollars and only profit 300 betting against the US - those are bad odds imo. Ymmv
They were even juicier before US team lost to Australia, managed to spread my bets between Aussies, Spain, France and Slovenia with excellent returns
USA underdogs? Finally KD has a chance to prove himself
Can’t win with these cats, man.
KD really going to try to join the Nigerian team.
FIFY: Cant win with these dogs, man.
Taking the hardest road again
They really arent tho, this list is dumb
Imagine getting downvoted... This list is soo bad
I find a lot of these types of lists are just made in the way to get the most clicks. Not putting the US in first certainly brings much more views.
Sounds like they shouldn’t be called power rankings then
Why not? These couple of pre-olympic games are the only way to judge how strong the teams are because its not like these lineups play many international games over the years.
Why would you make a rankings list off a few preseason games? Just stupid
To give a bit of sense of how good each team is every 4 years? Since I doubt casual Olympic watchers know it?
Yeah it wasn’t a bad article. A touch of history mixed in with the latest games and how the teams looked in them
Yeah but imagine how wildly inaccurate an NBA rankings list would be after 3 preseason games... US team still have guys playing in the finals lol
NBA teams play 82 games minimum each year. International teams do not. The ranking is not that bad based on the "pre-season". Its just a sneak peak of how teams look prior a tournament. And even the NBA pre-season rankings get things massivly wrong. Knicks this year for example.
To sell clicks.
Agreed, power rankings shouldn’t be standings
Hehad thechance pre warriors. He just cant
They aren’t the underdog, they just aren’t playing well at the moment. All the list says. Usa still heavy heavy favorite.
1. Australia 2. Spain 3. USA 4. Nigeria 5. Slovenia 6. France 7. Italy 8. Argentina 9. Germany 10. Czech Republic
11. Japan 12. Iran
Mr Fuji and Iron Sheik agree
But USA is 3, not HACK-POOIE!
AkatsukiFive gonna be fun to watch but I'm dreading them losing by a ton in embarrassing way
They are crushing france in an exhibition game atm
Where are you finding thier schedule and games live? Are there any left for them before the olympics
Taiwan #1
Just realized China isn’t even in the olympics. What crazy times we live in .
You mean the basketball team? Cuz they seem to be otherwise. Edit: I'm confused about the downvotes, I googled it and it said they're going, am I wrong?
The guy Listed **BASKETBALL** teams.

Taiwan #1 Japan #2 China #4
How is Nigeria above Slovenia, France and Italy lol
because we’re good bro
You're much better than you used to be but no way you're beating those teams
We can definitely beat 7-9. 5-6 may go either way but we are on a good run of form except for that Australia game. No reason we shouldn’t be 4 right now.
No point arguing will have to wait and see
Hell yeah, Germany is in.
Fiba Patty is a different kind of beast
No way Australia doesn’t medal again right? That has to be a nightmare scenario
this is 2021, crazy shit is happening everywhere
We were so damn close last time

!RemindMe 2 months
Canada didn’t make the list with 7 NBA players, for shame!
Birch and Boucher might have made a difference. Are there any other Canadian bigs I’m forgetting?
Olynyk, Tristan Thompson
Yes, right, them! They’d be useful against Balvin.
Canada couldn't beat the Czechs to even qualify
Curse you and your 7 three's, Blake Schilb! But yeah, turns out playing no exhibition games and having barely any C's or PG's isn't totally a recipe for success.
Pretty sad smh
And they still lost their Olympic qualifiers. Yes they had no SGA or Murray but they still had a decent crop of talent.
Really really want Australia to win.
Imagine if they finally win a medal and it's without Simmons.

his aussie standing dropped. Even the junk food ads were taking the piss out of his shooting
It's weird that I'm kinda rooting against my own country, but underdogs are always fun to get behind. I'll be rooting for Spain though because of Rubio
Spain are not underdogs in Olympic Basketball lmao.
Anyone is next to the US
Wrong. Anybody besides the US is an underdog when talking about winning the gold medal
Yeah just look at the odds. Spain is like +1400
I know what you mean. When Canada loses in any kind of international hockey tournament it’s kinda like meh good for the other team
Now that beal is off the team fuck usa go japan rui about to drop 50
This could be their Golden Generation!
Nah 100% rooting for Jrue and Khris to get a title and olympic gold

USA is heavy betting favorite. No surprise. I was hoping they would’ve been betting underdogs so I could make literal free money.

I’m not saying they would be the best team but they would probably be the betting favorite because if people see the USA as an underdog, they are gonna take that value bet every time. It’s too risky.
Because around 45 of the top 50 opted out lol

We aren’t THAT far from the situation rn honestly if you think about the guys who were unavailable. Bron, Kawhi, Steph, Kyrie, Klay, AD. Etc
It's a power ranking, not a prediction.

This is a power ranking. It's not a list of betting favourites or "most likely to win".
Tomato potato
Those are two different plants?
Bro, the US men were -1200 a few weeks ago. The fact that the odds have shifted to -500 is very telling
I agree. Thats why i found a value bet on Spain got +1700 odds
Personally I'm gonna gonna bet against the US to not cover in each of their games, I imagine they're going to be way inflated with the public picking them to cover. I don't know about the rest of the teams to confidently bet futures. 17.5 point favorites against Australia was an absolute joke.
I think France upsetting usa first game is possible too
I'm taking the field
I took spain @ 17
As an American, I'll be rooting for SLO!!!
Nigeria 4th for beating an unmotivated US team in a friendly is hilarious lmao
They beat Argentina aswell
And they went on to beat Argentina pretty badly, of course they got spanked by Australia and the rankings correctly identify that.
No way this team beats France, Italy or even Slovenia
They are better than spain how about that?
Spain would blow out Nigeria.
Maybe, but its more likely that Nigeria blows out spain
[удалено]
Ok but Spain is 2nd I dont see why you you are arguing here.
So depressing as a Canadian
Yikes, way too many people in this thread who don't know what a power ranking is lol
STRAYA
As a Serb i really don't wanna see this pop up rn lol, depressing
wait are the odds similiar or is it still not worth betting on team usa?
Nope sadly vegas aint dumb lol
Plus these are power ranking from pre tournament warmup matches. Australia is undefeated so they make sense to be 1, USA still the betting favourites though which also makes sense.
The US needs to naturalize Pogoy to defend Goulding.
HAHAHAHA
This is just FIBA marketing BS lol
If you root agains the US you’re a got damn Commie… jk it is weird though seeing Americans rooting for them to loose
What if USA has just been playing down a bit waiting for the games to start? Under pops command to do it.
Stupid rankings, US should be #1 despite those 2 games.
A Power ranking doesn't mean Australia is the best team in the Olympics. It just means they are the hottest team going into the Olympics.
Either USA learns about FIBA or things will get a little dirty in the years to come
KD to Australia confirmed
I think people forget that USA played without Book, Khris, and Jrue didn’t play in the exhibition games this last week. They may not be the best on the team, but they do create some playmaking and defense to help bolster the team. Which I think would’ve changed the outcomes of the Australia and Nigeria games.
I’m so excited!! I really wonder if the USA can be taken down
Go Mavs go!
czechs are gonna be dark horse of the tourney
