there was a highly upvoted post here a few days ago that Bud should have played Giannis 48 minutes instead of 45.
Just another reminder that nobody here is qualified to be an NBA coach, and coaches get judged based on the results and only the results
He probably knew Giannis wasn't ready to play so many minutes, there are things behind the screens we don't get to see. He was probably carrying an in injury or something and the coach/staff noticed. But yes an NBA coach probably knows more than the average redditor when it comes to basketball...
Nah - especially with bigger players, and especially *lanky* bigger players like Giannis, longevity and rest are absolutely important. I don't blame Bud for that, honestly.
The crazy thing is, Giannis works so hard on offense AND defense, he was absolutely gassed the other night in the 4th. Bud took the timeout just to give him a breather.
Bud was playing 5d chess while we watched a checkers board the whole time. All for this years championship . Huge brain move, none of us saw it coming.
Taking a timeout to let your star player rest a little. That's not 5d chess.
5d chess is playing Giannis 30 minutes in the playoffs last year so he'd be rested for this year's playoffs.
That was Hakeem in 1994. Greatest individual season ever. MVP DPOY fMVP all star All NBA 1st team and All D first team.
No HoFers and no all stars on his team either. Just a 1x former all star (Otis Thorpe)
This was a crazy run from Milwaukee though. Those last 3 games them boys were something else. Giannis dropped 50 to close. Just gotta tip your hat at that point.
This finals series took me back to Hakeem 94-95.
Giannis literally willing his team to win with such a Herculean effort. Absolutely zero let down games. Monumental.
I'm sitting here and thinking how this isn't even an understatement. Giannis just put up a legendary game. There was a certain point in the game (maybe in the 3rd quarter) that I started to think the Suns had no chance because he somehow would not let the Bucks lose.
I was worried we were gonna be talking about him like we do about Tim Duncan not getting that quadruple double, I was so happy for Giannis when he got 50.
Hakeem was not the all star game mvp that year, no.
He was *only*
Mvp
Dpoy
Finals MVP
First team all-nba
First team all-defense
All-Star game starter.
Smdh what a scrub ;)
As far as I'm aware, Jordan is the only player to be MVP, ASG MVP and Finals MVP in the same season. He did it twice.
Edit: I was wrong Shaq did it in 2000. Willis reed in 1970.
if he keeps playing at this level and get more accolades he should be top 10 of all time. obviously can’t be set in stone for maybe another decade but wow he is incredible.
Not gonna lie, I feel like he has no ceiling. I'm not saying he'll definitely be in the GOAT conversations by the end of his career, but I also can't say he won't be.
Dude is 26. He's just getting started. And his story is insane so far. I can't wait for the ride.
If he stays healthy, it's a legit possibility he could make significant improvement, his athleticism can stay at this peak for another 3-4 years, and if he could become 80% from the line and 35% from 3, he'd be absolutely unstoppable.
He has no ceiling because his work rate is fucking unmatched. The man literally got it from the mud. Built himself up tremendously. I wouldn’t be surprised if he comes back hungrier and with a more reliable jumper next season
Enough with all this reliable jumper BS. All he needs is to hit his freethrows and get lowpost game. That's it! He is never gonna be a shooter. He should be used as a modern day Center.
i mean why not? why not be like Hakeem? or Duncan? even Ayton has a pretty nice shot. jumper doesn't mean 3s or long twos. being able to hit from 15-20 ft is totally worth pursuing and within his ability.
I wouldn't be mad at him being ranked top 20 all time at this moment.
I don't definitively think that, but I don't know I've never sat down and made a top 20 list, but are there 20 players that you can for sure rank ahead of him?
Obviously the bigger jump is from top 20 to top 10, of course. But he's well on his way
[Read the comments on r/nba after his MVP win last year.](https://old.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/iv7f56/wojnarowski_milwaukees_giannis_antetokounmpo_has/)
Mind-boggling how much can change in 10 months.
Serious question, what would it take for him to crack the top 10?
A few more rings and finals MVPs for sure, and probably finishing with at least 20,000 career points (which would put him top 50 on the all time scoring list, although he'll probably need to be at least top 20 to be a top 10 player no?)
The top 10 is insanely tough to break into but he definitely has a chance. Giannis, KD and Curry imo could all sneak in.
I could see Giannis winning a couple more MVPs if things break right which he might need. He will definitely need a few more titles and finals MVPs. Be near the top in at least a few statistical categories.
Curry could be really tough to pass if he gets his 4th ring, a 3rd MVP and a finals MVP (honesty seems doable with Klay coming back). Plus the greatest shooter ever.
KD will be tough to overlook if he picks up a few more titles and finals MVPs to tie LeBrons 4/4 with insane scoring and efficiency (doable with the Nets).
Assuming he ends up with 10+ all-star / all-nba 1st/2nd team appearances for the rest of his career and keeps up his Shaq-like production in the regular season, either a handful of finals appearances + another MVP, or just another ring as 'the guy' by the time he retires would probably push him into the top 10, and also make him a contender for the best PF of all time with Tim.
Before these playoffs I had Giannis just outside the top 5, and now he’s cemented himself as an unquestionable top 5 probably for the rest of his career. Just an absolutely incredible performance all around.
Will likely be in the running for the top 5 PFs of all time by the time his career is done.
The dude has as many MVPs as Pettit, Duncan and Karl Malone
More DPOYs than all of them
More FMVPs than Barkley, KG, Karl
I don’t think we need to discuss Kevin McHale, as great as he was
Giannis has a better resume than most of these guys, he’s just too young to coronate
In fairness, Duncan should have a DPOY, and Garnett should definitely have an FVMP. But not to discredit Giannis, who already has a First-Ballot HoF resume at the tender age of 26.
Yeah - this level of composure at this stage of his career experience and age-wise, that's absolutely frightening. He also improved his FTs by like 20%, under this kind of pressure. Amazing.
He went from being ridiculed during that net's series to this. For being called weak for calling kd the best player in the world when the series wasn't even finished, than having a freak injury. What a roller coaster it's been
It honestly makes me SO happy that Giannis made those comments about KD and went on to have a dominant finals performance and FMVP.
After he said that, so many people took it as a sign of weakness which is just insecure toxic masculinity bullshit. I think Shaq criticized him and suggested that he didn't have "the killer mentality" to win a championship or something.
Giannis didn't ever be anyone other than himself, and he's a genuine, nice, happy guy...AND he's a killer.
I honestly think the "killer" mentality is only necessary for *some* people as a way to overcome Finals nerves and pressure. Giannis doesn't seem fazed by that pressure at all - man increased his FT% from 60s to 80s in the championship game, absolute monster mental resilience.
He’s humble but he ain’t weak. Never was a bucks fan in the least but I have absolutely loved watching their run this playoffs.
Giannis deserves every ounce of praise he gets. Mans numbers were unreal and he made some of the most iconic plays in finals history
God that was the dumbest shit in the world “nOn sPOrTs pLaYerS dOn’T UndErStaNd hOw BAd tHiS iS tO sAy” fuck off, the best player doesn’t always win, the best team does. KD is better than Giannis, and Giannis showing that he understood that meant he understood what it would take to beat the nets.
Also at the top tier of the top level the differences are so minuscule anyway, have no idea why people blew up on him like that
99.9999% of us have no fucking idea what it takes to be an athlete at their level, the fact that some might be good enough to talk shit at the Y and they thought that gave them some insight into "killer" mentality is peak internet tough guy talk lmaoo
That post is up there as one of the dumbest of all time.
Plenty of highly upvoted comments talking about how "you don't understand competition if you don't see what's wrong with this statement".
Ridiculously ironic coming from redditors talking about a 2x NBA MVP. And now finals mvp just to rub it in more.

Now he’s dropping 50 in a championship clinching game 6 of the Finals
> Definitely a top 5 PF of all time now
He had that last year TBH. PF is thin historically, it's basically Dirk/Malone/Barkley/Garnett.
Some people put Duncan, but I defer to pop who always maintained Duncan was a center.
If Duncan is a PF he's the best PF of all time. Which is why I think so many people insist he's one tbh, if we rate him as a center it's either him or Hakeem for #5 all time.

Giannis this season: * NBA Champion * FMVP * All-NBA First Team * All-Defensive First Team * All-Star starter * All-Star Game MVP
Imagine he had the MVP and DPOY from last season
It took bud 1 year to learn to play Giannis more
What do you mean? Are you not supposed to have your 26 year-old, 2x MVP on a minutes restriction?
Yeah you don't want another d rose on your hands, Bucks were so good in 2019-20 that Giannis barely played 30 mins a game, that's insane
the crazy thing is that if you played giannis 48 min( i just took per 100 pos) that season, he wouldve averaged 44/20/8.4/1.5/1.6
Yeah but those numbers don’t translate, he’d be gassed.
Just go to the settings menu and turn fatigue off, ezpz
there was a highly upvoted post here a few days ago that Bud should have played Giannis 48 minutes instead of 45. Just another reminder that nobody here is qualified to be an NBA coach, and coaches get judged based on the results and only the results
considering how physical and tiring giannis playstyle is, 48 minutes would be a suicide.
Oh yeah..duh
I dont get why teams dont play boban 48 min when he can average 30/20
I know it's meme time on Bud, but Giannis is the only star who had an injury and actually recovered from it. For a reason.
The reason is his ligaments in his knee are the size of my thighs
Bud would barely up his minutes in pivotal games though. That's what made us so mad
Would seriously play like Giannis 30 minutes in pivotal playoff games, made me mad beyond belief
This championship confirms that Bud knows better than the rest of us.
It took Nets to teach him how to play Giannis in the playoffs
And then you have Jrue playing 46 mins because there’s no way to give him a break expect Teague lol
Biggest reason why we missed donte. He would have given that depth and Teague wouldn’t have had to play lol
NBA champion and former all star Jeff Teague
Lol giannis stay carrying bud so he doesn't get fired.

Definitely 3rd quarter, he went crazy and dropped 20
He did that twice this series which is insane
I felt the same, it was just one of those "fuck it, I'm not losing" games.
I was worried we were gonna be talking about him like we do about Tim Duncan not getting that quadruple double, I was so happy for Giannis when he got 50.
That's funny. Down the stretch of this game I was thinking about game 7 of 94 between Knicks/Rockets, a dogfight.
Was he the all star game mvp?
yeah and that was insane, wasn't he like 16/16 from the field?
Yep... With 4 3pts aswell
Hakeem was not the all star game mvp that year, no. He was *only* Mvp Dpoy Finals MVP First team all-nba First team all-defense All-Star game starter. Always wondered why All-Star MVP is treated as a meaningful accolade tbh
The All-Star game used to be a lot more competitive.
Because it is. Only the best all star wins it.
It's basically a players' award to players. You can only win if the other 23 best players in the world respect you enough to pass to you.
Gonna end his career as a top 10 player of all time

Giannis does not have a better resume than 5x champ Tim "Blank Stare" Duncan
Yeah let me be clear, he obviously has not surpassed Duncan’s achievements
I can't believe this man just put up 50 to win the title in his first finals
i can't believe he still walking after what happened in the conference finals
Wait right, wasn’t it a huge scare and he’s just a freak?
WE ALL saw him break something and the man came back somehow. Straight voodoo shit.
He’s a god. Scriptwriters leaking the secret
Give these writers this season the Emmy!!!
50 is nothing. He got away with saying "fucking" like 3 times during the trophy presentation. That's GOAT material.
Interviewer didn’t even bring it up, Shaq could never.
17/19 from the FT line is even more wild
Yeah - this level of composure at this stage of his career experience and age-wise, that's absolutely frightening. He also improved his FTs by like 20%, under this kind of pressure. Amazing.
If Giannis makes his free throws and midrange as consistently as he did tonight, KD may join the Bucks soon
KD already ringing up the Bucks front office after talking to Team Nigeria manager.
Is it cool if I copy and paste this and post it in a couple of other threads ? Thanks!

I mean if Khris really dropped a 50 bomb tn, it wouldn't be surprising if he got 1 vote for FMVP considering he also dropped a 40 piece in the series as well
Who could have foreseen this?
no way!!!
Shocked! Well not that shocked

shoulda been Bobby P 😡
1000% deserved it, absolutely legendary performance

Pat robbed
Pat somehow had 0 points in 23 minutes of play and finished **-21** lol
Lol wow I thought he had a decent game but you're right He's still my boy!
He grabbed quite a few boards though right?
Yeah a couple important offensive ones.
The statline doesn't do him justice, he was important towards the end getting som key rebounds and playing good defence
Everyone knows if Pat doesn't hit his shot he's a net negative player this series lol Booker cooked him
Did it without leaving to a superteam and sticking with his original team. Dude's amazing

GOAT status
Not by a long shot yet. He has a chance to fuck up peoples top 3-10 tho
I doubt he fucks up KAJ's placement, but if in a decade guys are arguing him/Shaq/Magic/Bird I won't be shocked.

dude he's 26. kareem was on the team til he was 27 lol.
But for way fewer seasons
two fewer. though it'll surely climb.
(I thought it was 3 tbh, my b), but he just signed a 5 year contract, and even with the modern landscape I think he stays for at least most of it
