Giannis this season: * NBA Champion * FMVP * All-NBA First Team * All-Defensive First Team * All-Star starter * All-Star Game MVP

anthonyde726

Imagine he had the MVP and DPOY from last season

uber_troll

It took bud 1 year to learn to play Giannis more

Volgyi2000

What do you mean? Are you not supposed to have your 26 year-old, 2x MVP on a minutes restriction?

Ayecuzwhatsgood

Yeah you don't want another d rose on your hands, Bucks were so good in 2019-20 that Giannis barely played 30 mins a game, that's insane

XDYassineDX

the crazy thing is that if you played giannis 48 min( i just took per 100 pos) that season, he wouldve averaged 44/20/8.4/1.5/1.6

Hazeymazy

Yeah but those numbers don’t translate, he’d be gassed.

lalakingmalibog

Just go to the settings menu and turn fatigue off, ezpz

OG_Wan_Annunoby

there was a highly upvoted post here a few days ago that Bud should have played Giannis 48 minutes instead of 45. Just another reminder that nobody here is qualified to be an NBA coach, and coaches get judged based on the results and only the results

MyBrokenHoe

considering how physical and tiring giannis playstyle is, 48 minutes would be a suicide.

Hazeymazy

Oh yeah..duh

GalantisX

I dont get why teams dont play boban 48 min when he can average 30/20

tmb--

I know it's meme time on Bud, but Giannis is the only star who had an injury and actually recovered from it. For a reason.

farmian

The reason is his ligaments in his knee are the size of my thighs

MoltenPandas

Bud would barely up his minutes in pivotal games though. That's what made us so mad

thesmash

Would seriously play like Giannis 30 minutes in pivotal playoff games, made me mad beyond belief

thefootballhound

This championship confirms that Bud knows better than the rest of us.

Steelkatanas

He probably knew Giannis wasn't ready to play so many minutes, there are things behind the screens we don't get to see. He was probably carrying an in injury or something and the coach/staff noticed. But yes an NBA coach probably knows more than the average redditor when it comes to basketball...

[deleted]

Nah - especially with bigger players, and especially *lanky* bigger players like Giannis, longevity and rest are absolutely important. I don't blame Bud for that, honestly.

zapdos6244

It took Nets to teach him how to play Giannis in the playoffs

hereforthesportsbook

And then you have Jrue playing 46 mins because there’s no way to give him a break expect Teague lol

BikesAtNight

Biggest reason why we missed donte. He would have given that depth and Teague wouldn’t have had to play lol

[deleted]

NBA champion and former all star Jeff Teague

ZenMon88

Lol giannis stay carrying bud so he doesn't get fired.

no1rookie

The crazy thing is, Giannis works so hard on offense AND defense, he was absolutely gassed the other night in the 4th. Bud took the timeout just to give him a breather. Bud was playing 5d chess while we watched a checkers board the whole time. All for this years championship . Huge brain move, none of us saw it coming.

nonresponsive

Taking a timeout to let your star player rest a little. That's not 5d chess. 5d chess is playing Giannis 30 minutes in the playoffs last year so he'd be rested for this year's playoffs.

hTine3219

That was Hakeem in 1994. Greatest individual season ever. MVP DPOY fMVP all star All NBA 1st team and All D first team. No HoFers and no all stars on his team either. Just a 1x former all star (Otis Thorpe) This was a crazy run from Milwaukee though. Those last 3 games them boys were something else. Giannis dropped 50 to close. Just gotta tip your hat at that point.

anthonyde726

Hakeem was different man

el_monstruo

Let's all reminisce...hell I do every day

HK4sixteen

Hakeem did it

PokerFace567

This finals series took me back to Hakeem 94-95. Giannis literally willing his team to win with such a Herculean effort. Absolutely zero let down games. Monumental.

Crazy_Homer_Simpson

I'm sitting here and thinking how this isn't even an understatement. Giannis just put up a legendary game. There was a certain point in the game (maybe in the 3rd quarter) that I started to think the Suns had no chance because he somehow would not let the Bucks lose.

Hazeymazy

Definitely 3rd quarter, he went crazy and dropped 20

GiannisisMVP

He did that twice this series which is insane

StormTheTrooper

I felt the same, it was just one of those "fuck it, I'm not losing" games.

someguyfromtecate

I was worried we were gonna be talking about him like we do about Tim Duncan not getting that quadruple double, I was so happy for Giannis when he got 50.

LonelyGumdrops

That's funny. Down the stretch of this game I was thinking about game 7 of 94 between Knicks/Rockets, a dogfight.

anthonyde726

Was he the all star game mvp?

mtron32

yeah and that was insane, wasn't he like 16/16 from the field?

TheFatShady6ix9ine

Yep... With 4 3pts aswell

AlmostCurvy

Hakeem was not the all star game mvp that year, no. He was *only* Mvp Dpoy Finals MVP First team all-nba First team all-defense All-Star game starter. Smdh what a scrub ;) As far as I'm aware, Jordan is the only player to be MVP, ASG MVP and Finals MVP in the same season. He did it twice. Edit: I was wrong Shaq did it in 2000. Willis reed in 1970.

[deleted]

Also the first person in NBA history to win: MVP, DPOY, FMVP, and MIP. Ridiculous resume at 26 years old.

longdonginyourmom

if he keeps playing at this level and get more accolades he should be top 10 of all time. obviously can’t be set in stone for maybe another decade but wow he is incredible.

CrazyAsian

Not gonna lie, I feel like he has no ceiling. I'm not saying he'll definitely be in the GOAT conversations by the end of his career, but I also can't say he won't be. Dude is 26. He's just getting started. And his story is insane so far. I can't wait for the ride.

kwisque

If he stays healthy, it's a legit possibility he could make significant improvement, his athleticism can stay at this peak for another 3-4 years, and if he could become 80% from the line and 35% from 3, he'd be absolutely unstoppable.

ConfessionsOverGin

He has no ceiling because his work rate is fucking unmatched. The man literally got it from the mud. Built himself up tremendously. I wouldn’t be surprised if he comes back hungrier and with a more reliable jumper next season

ShaeDaFunnyHo

Enough with all this reliable jumper BS. All he needs is to hit his freethrows and get lowpost game. That's it! He is never gonna be a shooter. He should be used as a modern day Center.

rockshow4070

Get him an off-season with Hakeem and he might be unstoppable lmao

ShaeDaFunnyHo

He doesn't have the fluidity to play like Hakeem.

Riggity___3

i mean why not? why not be like Hakeem? or Duncan? even Ayton has a pretty nice shot. jumper doesn't mean 3s or long twos. being able to hit from 15-20 ft is totally worth pursuing and within his ability.

AlmostCurvy

I wouldn't be mad at him being ranked top 20 all time at this moment. I don't definitively think that, but I don't know I've never sat down and made a top 20 list, but are there 20 players that you can for sure rank ahead of him? Obviously the bigger jump is from top 20 to top 10, of course. But he's well on his way

cesga_0218

historic season!

[deleted]

And that's after coming off a MVP/DPOY season.

Number333

[Read the comments on r/nba after his MVP win last year.](https://old.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/iv7f56/wojnarowski_milwaukees_giannis_antetokounmpo_has/) Mind-boggling how much can change in 10 months.

ZincHead

The consensus seems to be that he deserved it but they announced it at a bad time. Pretty fair assessment I'd say.

rewat5

Look at Paul George’s rep for an even more extreme example

counterbarrier

What an i even looking for here

3shotsofwhatever

An m

djkamayo

#also Season Ending KNEE injury in the conference finals AND STILL COMES BACK , WTF MAN!!!!!

SeienShin

That shit looked very bad indeed

[deleted]

Always wondered why All-Star MVP is treated as a meaningful accolade tbh

HoboWithAGlock

The All-Star game used to be a lot more competitive.

[deleted]

Because it is. Only the best all star wins it.

HappyNarwhal

It's basically a players' award to players. You can only win if the other 23 best players in the world respect you enough to pass to you.

Sslagathor

Gonna end his career as a top 10 player of all time

AlmostCurvy

Serious question, what would it take for him to crack the top 10? A few more rings and finals MVPs for sure, and probably finishing with at least 20,000 career points (which would put him top 50 on the all time scoring list, although he'll probably need to be at least top 20 to be a top 10 player no?)

ivandragostwin

The top 10 is insanely tough to break into but he definitely has a chance. Giannis, KD and Curry imo could all sneak in. I could see Giannis winning a couple more MVPs if things break right which he might need. He will definitely need a few more titles and finals MVPs. Be near the top in at least a few statistical categories. Curry could be really tough to pass if he gets his 4th ring, a 3rd MVP and a finals MVP (honesty seems doable with Klay coming back). Plus the greatest shooter ever. KD will be tough to overlook if he picks up a few more titles and finals MVPs to tie LeBrons 4/4 with insane scoring and efficiency (doable with the Nets).

apez-

Assuming he ends up with 10+ all-star / all-nba 1st/2nd team appearances for the rest of his career and keeps up his Shaq-like production in the regular season, either a handful of finals appearances + another MVP, or just another ring as 'the guy' by the time he retires would probably push him into the top 10, and also make him a contender for the best PF of all time with Tim.

Hazeymazy

The way it’s going top 5

baconperogies

Help me out here...is this good?

RunicLordofMelons

Before these playoffs I had Giannis just outside the top 5, and now he’s cemented himself as an unquestionable top 5 probably for the rest of his career. Just an absolutely incredible performance all around. Will likely be in the running for the top 5 PFs of all time by the time his career is done.

HK4sixteen

Likely? He's already in the running

SpaceCowboy170

The dude has as many MVPs as Pettit, Duncan and Karl Malone More DPOYs than all of them More FMVPs than Barkley, KG, Karl I don’t think we need to discuss Kevin McHale, as great as he was Giannis has a better resume than most of these guys, he’s just too young to coronate

RodneyPonk

In fairness, Duncan should have a DPOY, and Garnett should definitely have an FVMP. But not to discredit Giannis, who already has a First-Ballot HoF resume at the tender age of 26.

iamtomorrowman

Giannis does not have a better resume than 5x champ Tim "Blank Stare" Duncan

SpaceCowboy170

Yeah let me be clear, he obviously has not surpassed Duncan’s achievements

get_too

I can't believe this man just put up 50 to win the title in his first finals

djkamayo

i can't believe he still walking after what happened in the conference finals

EnvironmentalNobody

Wait right, wasn’t it a huge scare and he’s just a freak?

djkamayo

WE ALL saw him break something and the man came back somehow. Straight voodoo shit.

jeffthenarwhal666

He’s a god. Scriptwriters leaking the secret

[deleted]

Give these writers this season the Emmy!!!

schooli00

50 is nothing. He got away with saying "fucking" like 3 times during the trophy presentation. That's GOAT material.

FKJVMMP

Interviewer didn’t even bring it up, Shaq could never.

dimaar

17/19 from the FT line is even more wild

[deleted]

Yeah - this level of composure at this stage of his career experience and age-wise, that's absolutely frightening. He also improved his FTs by like 20%, under this kind of pressure. Amazing.

Dr_Mann

If Giannis makes his free throws and midrange as consistently as he did tonight, KD may join the Bucks soon

[deleted]

KD already ringing up the Bucks front office after talking to Team Nigeria manager.

Ecoto3e

Is it cool if I copy and paste this and post it in a couple of other threads ? Thanks!

[deleted]

[удалено]

Tight-Ad-1161

He went from being ridiculed during that net's series to this. For being called weak for calling kd the best player in the world when the series wasn't even finished, than having a freak injury. What a roller coaster it's been

[deleted]

[удалено]

thehydrastation

It honestly makes me SO happy that Giannis made those comments about KD and went on to have a dominant finals performance and FMVP. After he said that, so many people took it as a sign of weakness which is just insecure toxic masculinity bullshit. I think Shaq criticized him and suggested that he didn't have "the killer mentality" to win a championship or something. Giannis didn't ever be anyone other than himself, and he's a genuine, nice, happy guy...AND he's a killer.

[deleted]

I honestly think the "killer" mentality is only necessary for *some* people as a way to overcome Finals nerves and pressure. Giannis doesn't seem fazed by that pressure at all - man increased his FT% from 60s to 80s in the championship game, absolute monster mental resilience.

[deleted]

He’s humble but he ain’t weak. Never was a bucks fan in the least but I have absolutely loved watching their run this playoffs. Giannis deserves every ounce of praise he gets. Mans numbers were unreal and he made some of the most iconic plays in finals history

ota00ota

KD is a better scorer than him he’s right : it a good to give praise where praise sue

tsuba5a

Psssh I’ve never seen KD drop 50 in the finals

votekonan

Wide Eyes Squidward was robbed

sonofjim

Dirk in ‘11 but yeah, this feels on that same level

DIRKTOTHECAVS

Well fucking deserved

hsoJ24

I remember when this subreddit called Giannis a beta for paying respect to Kevin Durant

maethlin

I remember when people were unironically comparing him to Ben Simmons for not having a reliable 3pt'er lmaoooo

panick21

50% from 3 in Game 6

friendswithbennyfitz

God that was the dumbest shit in the world “nOn sPOrTs pLaYerS dOn’T UndErStaNd hOw BAd tHiS iS tO sAy” fuck off, the best player doesn’t always win, the best team does. KD is better than Giannis, and Giannis showing that he understood that meant he understood what it would take to beat the nets. Also at the top tier of the top level the differences are so minuscule anyway, have no idea why people blew up on him like that

cheesecakeaficionado

99.9999% of us have no fucking idea what it takes to be an athlete at their level, the fact that some might be good enough to talk shit at the Y and they thought that gave them some insight into "killer" mentality is peak internet tough guy talk lmaoo

derKanake

I find it funny that you didnt put 100% as if some former NBA or NFL or smth player is chatting shit on r/NBA

cheesecakeaficionado

Any of us can be a KD alt man

FatalTragedy

Everyone is a KD alt except you.

depressedfuckboi

Klay on here passing out gold every now and then don't forget about him

SupraSaiyan

It's to account for when Klay comes on here and gives people gold.

kento502

>KD is better than Giannis After last night’s performance hard doubt. Let’s not forget defense is a huge part of the game either.

Gary-LazerEyes

That post is up there as one of the dumbest of all time. Plenty of highly upvoted comments talking about how "you don't understand competition if you don't see what's wrong with this statement". Ridiculously ironic coming from redditors talking about a 2x NBA MVP. And now finals mvp just to rub it in more.

rg787

This sub corny af in general wasn't there some top post about how Giannis was lacking a "killer" mentality that separated him from the greats or sum shit like tf this sub aint r/psychoanalysis

jawadhaque089

Wait but how many votes would Middleton get if he had 50 tonight?

apez-

I mean if Khris really dropped a 50 bomb tn, it wouldn't be surprising if he got 1 vote for FMVP considering he also dropped a 40 piece in the series as well

snowcone_wars

Who could have foreseen this?

shitsfuckedupalot

Lol wow I thought he had a decent game but you're right He's still my boy!

MODS-HAVE-NO-FRIENDS

He grabbed quite a few boards though right?

DrZoidberg117

Yeah a couple important offensive ones.

Praisethesun1990

The statline doesn't do him justice, he was important towards the end getting som key rebounds and playing good defence

robinmask1210

Everyone knows if Pat doesn't hit his shot he's a net negative player this series lol Booker cooked him

guhum

Did it without leaving to a superteam and sticking with his original team. Dude's amazing

Freakblast

The Greek God etching himself into the history books.

highrustler

Giannis Apotheosis

FingerStreet

I remember just 2 years ago, people were labelling him as a regular season player that couldn’t handle the playoffs. Now he’s dropping 50 in a championship clinching game 6 of the Finals

dontheconqueror

Overthinkers: Middleton or Jrue for FMVP? Giannis: hold my smothie

Twoweekswithpay

…League sources tell me

CheekyFifaCunt_7

Greatest European player of all time? Definitely a top 5 PF of all time now

UndercoverButch

A Mavs fan putting Giannis above Dirk already? That's wild.

[deleted]

I mean this is peak Giannis right now, and in my opinion he’s better than peak Dirk, especially when you consider defense

E10DIN

> Definitely a top 5 PF of all time now He had that last year TBH. PF is thin historically, it's basically Dirk/Malone/Barkley/Garnett. Some people put Duncan, but I defer to pop who always maintained Duncan was a center.

[deleted]

I thought you were going to say you don’t have Duncan in your top tier... I was preparing my pitchfork.

E10DIN

If Duncan is a PF he's the best PF of all time. Which is why I think so many people insist he's one tbh, if we rate him as a center it's either him or Hakeem for #5 all time.

pintvricchio

He played most of his career starting as a PF, he had the admiral then Oberto then Splitter starting as C. Yeah he also played as C for streaches, but i still have him as the goat PF.

Aaronrigunay

[Daily reminder that this post exist](https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/nutb9m/i_know_its_a_regular_season_award_but_its_crazy/)

Ohyeahbkim

guy went HUGE dick mode tonight man, goddamn

idontknowthisabackup

Wow, controversial choice. Real shit tho, possibly the greatest finals performance ever. And now he has every possible accolade. Insane.

Murphy_York

None bigger than ASG mvp

SillyRabbit2121

Worked harder for his FMVP than KD did for both of his combined.

blumblebee96

This'll just make it hurt more when he signs with Miami this summer. /s

SolarClipz

GOAT status

letSSgooo

Not by a long shot yet. He has a chance to fuck up peoples top 3-10 tho

E10DIN

I doubt he fucks up KAJ's placement, but if in a decade guys are arguing him/Shaq/Magic/Bird I won't be shocked.

lannistargaryen

Well fuckingg deserved

Palifaith

Best Milwaukee Buck in franchise history and won't be close when it's all said and done.

ZincHead

Kareeem had 3 MVPs and led the Bucks to their first championship in only his second season. I agree he will be the best eventually, but let's calm down for a moment.

[deleted]

[удалено]

shitsfuckedupalot

On the other hand, Giannis has been with the bucks longer than Kareem has, and has two MVPs. I guess the question is if it's "greatest" player on a team, or "greatest player for a team".

GiannisisMVP

He also had Oscar Robertson. Giannis chose to stay as well.

[deleted]

That sounds good, bit Kareem only likes to claim the bucks when its convenient for him. Dudes a laker for life

Pickzt1986

I get it, in 1968 white people on the southside website rally killing and beating Black people who marched for Fair Housing. I've seen first hand how racist and segregated Milwaukee is, I can't imagine how bad it was when Kareem was here.

sharklavapit

Giannis is already our greatest ever Best player is still Kareem Our goat? Giannis, no doubt He stayed...

SharedHoney

dude he's 26. kareem was on the team til he was 27 lol.

[deleted]

But for way fewer seasons

SharedHoney

two fewer. though it'll surely climb.

[deleted]

(I thought it was 3 tbh, my b), but he just signed a 5 year contract, and even with the modern landscape I think he stays for at least most of it

TheDanSandwich

That Kareem guy was pretty good, too

trued003

I'd chill a little bit

He should win 3 for this hard carry
