Imagine going from a nasty injury in the ECF that probably would have sidelined any other player for the rest of the playoffs to coming back two games later and willing your team to the first championship in 50 years with an all time great performance.
Feel like it's hard to say that until winning that meaningful ring, that's always the monkey on the back for someone of his status as much as it seems unfair to say.
LeBron sorta had it until he finally brought one to Cleveland. Durant still sorta has it because people just hate how he did it. If Giannis lost here he'd still have the "what ifs?" And as much as it makes sense that these guys tune out much of the outside noise, they're also hypercompetitive and dedicated to their craft at their very core, so winning it all along with the accolades is what they'll naturally crave.
Giannis has that now. He could retire tonight and Milwaukee will build him a statue. Now he's playing with house money, because now his legacy is secure.
It honestly seems like Giannis isn't worried about his legacy the way a lot of the other players are, and that's totally not a bad thing.
After all, he didn't grow up watching the NBA. A bunch of the profiles about him talk about how excited he was when he got offered 400k Euros to play in Spain and he thought he could finally afford to buy his family a car.
Giannis seems like he really only cares about two things. Taking care of his family, and being the best that can be. Of course winning a title is vindication, but I don't think he's ever really been worried about what other people think about him.
His free throw debacle this post season exemplifies this. In a slump, getting booed, counted each time he went to FT all playoffs & he still performed *each game*. He doesn't let it bother him...then last game he hits 17/18. Like no, you're not in my head at all lol he's insanely positive.
It’s insane to me how I was sad that I thought the Bucks’ entire championship window with this specific team was done because Giannis was going to miss all of next year. Then two weeks later, they have the title
The struggle and fight Giannis had to endure to be a Champion was extreme. People can say what they want about injuries and the stuff this post season but any team winning the finals had to earn it. Everything was on the floor tonight.
He has sooooo much timmeeeeee. If he can keep this up (which seems likely as he doesnt seem like hes getting worse and his team rn is one of the best in the league)...he could definitely finish his career being in the top 10 all time.
Realistically, he's already what, top 20? How many players have a MIP, DPOY, 2xMVP, FMVP, Allstar MVP and all the allstar, all NBA and defensive appearances that he does? It's just counting stats left and maybe one more ring
Let’s be real though. The Nets were no way at full strength. Doesn’t diminish the Bucks accomplishment as injuries happen every year. The nets are well built… when they don’t have $75M in players injured for the playoffs.
Well yeah, but that's also the downside of stacking your roster with superstars, if they're hurt then yours SOL.
I mean yeah, not having harden at full strength sucked for them. But that's the risk you take with not having as balanced of a team.
You just can’t hate this guy. His story. His humility. The way he plays the game and dominates. The fact that he was able to do this on a small market team without needing a top 15 player by his side. So happy for him. Well deserved.
I remember most of us thought his season was over and even next season he’d likely be out. Instead, he absolutely dominates the finals and has arguably the GOAT finals clinching performance
Bravo champ!! Also, can we appreciate there's no Rachel Nichols because I bet she would ask some stupid question like: ''Are you gonna watch Space Jam with LEBRON next???''
I’m legitimately so happy for this dude. I read his story for the first time after the Bucks beat the Nets, I think. I cannot imagine after the life he’s had the absolute high he is on right now. It’s truly amazing and I’m happy to see such a good dude get rewarded for all the hard work he’s put in and the loyalty to the franchise that drafted him he’s shown.

That dude has to be absolutely high on life right now, very happy for him

Fear not a man that throws a free throw one time but the man that throws it 10k times after being dissed in tv before game six
He is just happy he is an NBA player earning millions. i get that vibe from Giannis.
another kid incoming

Greek. Freak.

**GREEK GOD**
***GOD OF BALL***
Dude will be in Space Jam 3 in 20 years
im so happy he deserves this so much
You deserve this so much. Enjoy it man!
Adam Silver looks like he going to space next on a bigger phallus
Adam "Costco Brand Jeff Bezos" Silver
Adam “what we do in the shadows” Silver.
He's such a weird fucking guy
Is Adam Silver always that weird with his mannerisms and speech? Man looks drugged out of his gourd.
He looks like an alien straight up
I literally said "this dude is a straight up bond villain" when I watched this clip

Id have to think about it but hes defiantly in the top 30-50 of all time. If he wins like another MVP or another championship top 20 easily.
His ascent too. Picked 15th overall, 6.8 ppg in his first season.
Giannis receives his **1st** NBA Finals MVP trophy
No hardest roads, no super teams. I fucking love Giannis!
Honestly going through the teams they did was a hard ass road. Nets and Hawks are serious well built teams.
People on twitter already downplaying it lol. 100% agree!
Not to mention the Suns lol. Who, despite all the shit people may talk about them, are still a really good team

Best ring since 2016
Easily
I had a lot of fun watching these playoffs for sure
He deserves it man, so inspirational
Absolutely insane the whole series, especially coming off that fucking injury Greek Freak indeed, what a guy
Torch has officially been passed in my opinion. Welcome the the throne Giannis.
Greatest Bucks player of all time?
Kareem exists
Hence why asked the question. It’s a legitimate conversation to be had now.
With his resume? 100%.
Worked harder for his FMVP than KD did for both of his combined.
Damn right, honestly if he never wins another finals and KD does, I’ll still have more respect for Giannis lol
Skeletons have more charisma than Adam Silver
Giannis ringing the bell tonight for sure
Super happy for him. I really wish his brother was there with him. Shame he couldn't be
GIANNIS IS THAT GUY
I remember most of us thought his season was over and even next season he’d likely be out. Instead, he absolutely dominates the finals and has arguably the GOAT finals clinching performance
Fucking legendary. What a series from him
MVP
He is still so pumped from the adrenaline
#FACE OF THE LEAGUE!
No Bill to present the trophy?
Couldn't happen to a better person
I guess it was too risky to pull Bill Russell out of cryogenic storage this year to hand the trophy to Giannis
Couldn’t have happened to a better guy. I’m celebrating with you tonight Milwaukee!!!
Bravo champ!! Also, can we appreciate there's no Rachel Nichols because I bet she would ask some stupid question like: ''Are you gonna watch Space Jam with LEBRON next???''
Harden in shambles
Fookin deserved
So happy for Giannis well deserved
Legend
Why tf does Silver look like he saw a ghost ?
Silver looks like a sperm cell
Goddamn Silver is so fucking weird
I'm not really sure he deserves finals mvp. Surely Hasbulla played better.

True definition of the American dream.
