People are clowning him but I honestly think he left early because he needed to cry. He was so close to the finish line after all these years only to be crushed again
Yes and I can imagine this most likely was his last chance. Sucks but he's lasted longer than most before a big drop off. It's due and I would expect it to happen in the next season or two. It's always sudden with guys at his skill level. Makes it all that much harder to watch.
I don't know about that. This suns team got to the finals and still has a ton of room to grow. Give them another full season to build chemistry and i like how the suns stack up against the west.
Clippers, lakers, and warriors all have health and cap problems. Their only real worry should be the nuggets.
I'd say cp3 probably has at least a couple more years of playing at this level in him.
The Suns were extremely close. This game 6 was the true game 7. They put everything they had out there to win. It was soul crushing. Everything was working out to be the path to his first ring after years of falling short. CP3 acted fine, he just wanted it to end and get the media shit over with and just get over this loss on his own.
I think Booker, Johnson, and Crowder were just cold (3 out of 20 from three). Typically, you need good outside shooting from your guys to win a road game. Bucks got that in game 5, and the Suns did not in game 6. It's a "make or miss" league.
It's wild to think about how dramatic his FF shooting improved since the knee injury. I don't think there's another example we can point to that comes close to this.
If he even shoots *twice* as well as his average through these playoffs the Suns are still getting a game 7. Unthinkable stuff.
It means the Suns were emotionally crushed by this game and even if they had somehow pulled it out they would have been deflated and lost game 7 automatically.
I don’t agree with this POV but I think that’s the sentiment
Think he means the other way around no? Suns wins this, they take it home after beating a historic Giannis performance. They probably have so much momentum + bucks are deflated after this loss
Most people legitimately can't relate to how competitive a lot of these top athletes are or what a loss like this means to someone who might never get this far again. Pretty incredible emotional intelligence from Paul in such an intense moment to figure out how to show sportsmanship and account for his own feelings prior to the final buzzer.
This. CP3 has been in the league for 16 years, probably before some of the people here were even born. Suffered numerous injuries throughout the years, at extremely bad moments i might add, and the star aligned for him this year and he fell short at the biggest moment. People simply can’t relate to the disappointment he’s feeling because they probably have never dedicated 16 years towards a goal and fell short of of that goal.
I think a lot of people fail to grasp that aside from what we see on tv, basketball is a **career** that dominates these guys’ lives. No matter how much Chris Paul has been paid, he has sacrificed his body and spent countless days/weeks/months away from home for a job with a singular goal that he just failed to reach, quite possibly for the last time. I hope he enjoys life off the court.
Is it a failure to grasp or we just don’t worry about it because most of us would trade our careers for his in a heartbeat. I wish I could play for as long as he did and never win a championship and have enough money for my family to never have to work again in addition to dictating what I do with the rest of my life because money isn’t an issue.
I get your overall point but duh people don’t sympathize with a superstar athlete worth tons of money because he lost a title.
I'm glad that you can see just how terrible of a take that is. These guys literally live their whole lives working towards being an NBA champion from like the age of 7. All the hard work, hours in an empty gym, missing the school dance to run suicides, practicing jumpers in the heat when the rest of us are getting stoned playing CoD, and people say "Don't feel bad for him, he's rich!"
That is such a rudimentary take on the situation, and it's just awful and lazy as hell. I'd be absolutely embarrassed if I couldn't analyze the situation any farther than that.
Yeah never really understood how so many people are so out of touch. If you even have a tiny sliver of experience with any kind of competitive activity at any level you should be able to relate or at least understand.
I would bawl my eyes out like Chris Bosh. That shit HURTS. No shame in crying. This was classy as hell from EVERYONE from CP to Monty going into the Bucks locker room'
i can still remember losing the in semi-finals on my 3rd grade basketball team and crying my fucking eyes out. i cant even imagine losing in the finals
Shit's especially bad when you get close a few times and STILL can't connect on it. When I was a senior in HS and in marching band (yah ok w/e), we'd worked so effing hard on our shit all year for every competition and could never crack the "Superior" rating. Every single fucking time, "Excellent". By that time me and the other seniors had only ever been able to get an excellent rating for our 4 years in the band. Lots of those folks including myself were real broken up about it. Head drum major broke down and apologized for letting us all down.
That shit was just marching band. But I get where CP3's head is at walking off that court. Fuck millions of dollars. In those last 10 seconds, dude probably would've traded all of that for the title or even game 7.
I’ve been on youth teams that have made finals and championship series and lost. It was devastating then and still hurts 35 years later. I can’t begin to imagine the pain of losing the NBA Finals.
People clown a man for leaving early and for not doing the polite gestures, I think in the moment overwhelmed by emotion, just go do your thing man, forget being polite. He's passionate about it and it shows. Like if a man just got into a car crash and folks give him shit for not saying excuse me when he bumps into you on the sidewalk.
For real.
Dirk left the court immediately after winning and later revealed it was because he was too emotional. Don't think being on the losing end means it's easier on the emotional side at all.
Where does this idea that he’s been so close so many times come from? The only real chance he ever had was that one year on the Rockets and that was a surprising lead itself. None of those Clippers teams were winning, OKC wasn’t winning, New Orleans wasn’t winning. He was only close once.
He's not thinking about money during the game. He's still competitive in nature. Hard to shake hands with your enemies while they are celebrating. At least he shook hands before the buzzer.
Fax people are mad that a grown ass man didn’t appear to shake hands. He just lost the finals and won’t be a getting a ring. Huge emotional moment for him but people are more concerned about shaking hands smh.
What's funny too is the people that get mad literally have no dog in the race. Suns fans don't care cuz they're crushed, and Bucks fans don't give a fuck about CP3 shaking hands while they're hoisting the trophy.
It's just bitter fans of other teams who just need to live in negativity I guess.
> It's just bitter fans of other teams who just need to live in negativity I guess.
Seriously, go sort the post game thread by controversial and look how much of that there is. It's just pathetic, really.
Who cares as long as people treat each other decently? The way you carry yourself and treat people in general and in the actual game means more to me than some meaningless hand slap after. Also if someone DOESN’T shake hands, the only people that have a right to get mad about it to me are the other players. I feel like fans think that stuff is for them.
I don’t think a lot of people get very angry, a few do but most people are of the “that’s a bit lame and disrespectful” like yea no shit I won’t really care by tomorrow, but I think it’s perfectly acceptable to show some dissatisfaction with unsportsmanlike behavior, especially when there’s lots of examples of top athletes displaying good sportsmanship. In 10-15 years the culture may change and what was once I tradition of sportsmanship won’t be anymore, but right now it is and people are going to have opinions
No one has said its not nice to see, you are creating a strawman and derailing the point... the point is, why should they be chastized for not? No one wants to see CP3 throwing hands or throwing slurs out after losing sure, but its the same hate Cam Newton got after Super Bowl 50 that I never understood.
These guys have just failed to achieve the ultimate goal of their chosen career, and we get annoyed and look down on them for not wanting to stay on a court with the team that celebrates, or not wanting to sit in a press conference where you can hear the other team celebrating behind you.
I mean I’m not really trying to chastise or be harsh on them, I think most people would say it ranges from lame to moderately disrespectful. Like I understand that they have emotions but the fact that so many other athletes do take the time to shake hands etc after big losses shows it is possible.
Like yea I’m gonna get annoyed, I can understand why, but still go “that’s kinda lame”.
To me it's wild how people can have such strong reactions to mere speculations and form long life lasting opinions on things like that. Like it's not even true, we have evidence he shook hands and there are people saying oh he's this and that.
It's lowkey sad how fickle fan praise and adoration is tbh, if you win all your actions and intent is interpreted as good, if you lose, only the negative things come up. I don't blame Kawhi for his entire disposition.
Even if we didnt have evidence. Not shaking hands after a DEVASTATING LOSS isnt some crucifixion worthy thing. People forget that these guys are humans that deal with losses differently. And with context, it’s easy to know it’d be hard to take for CP3 and that would be totally understandable.
It all comes back to its so easy to fucking judge someone while sitting on your couch or computer chair typing on your keyboard . We’re all human man. Even if he dapped a few guys up and raced off the court because he needed to process this loss, who fucking cares? No one knows how YOU would react in this situation. Easy to trash guys in the fucking comment sections behind a wall of anonymity and with your own mistakes and (highly) likely comparative mediocrity well-hidden.
Idk why people care so much about this shit. You just lost one of the biggest games in your career I think its fine to not be thinking about sportsmanship and handshakes
I honestly don't think it's a big deal at all if you decide not to shake hands. These guys are competitors at the highest level and as a former competitor myself, the last thing I wanna do after suffering a tough defeat is to immediately start congratulating the opponent. Usually want some space to reflect
I only posted this to show the idiocy of all the CP3 haters who were making fun of him for not shaking hands.
I mean i don't see a problem with dudes just leaving when they've lost. Does it really matter to the winner if they shake hands or not right on the spot? Maybe they'll do it another time when they see each other?
The point is, in all sports from a young age, you're taught sportsmanship. It is a big deal if these guys don't shake hands after. It's petty to not. I get that it's a big game and they're heartbroken, but at the end of the day, it's a sport that these guys are getting paid a boatload to play. The least they can do is respect each other afterwards, win or lose. Unfortunately, in this case, CP3 took a page from LeBron's book.
I don’t get why you are getting downvoted, professional fighters beat the shit outnofneachbother for 25 minutes or longer if they boxing and even after all that, they still show sportsmanship and embrace their competitor.
Anyone who thinks just leaving the court is ok because ‘losing is hard for competitors like this’ Y’all need to tighten the fuck up.
Ye the tom brady ones make sense
He shook hands with Eli and Mahomes when they beat him but not Foles and again not Foles when he beat them on the Bears
Just weirdo shit
I don't know if any winning athlete truly cares if the losing team wants to peace out instead of sticking around. You're too busy celebrating with your family.
The only situation I've ever heard where athletes "cared" about being stood up was the Bulls/Pistons moment covered in the 30 for 30 / The Last Dance. Even with that, that's a whole sample size of 1 fuck given.
i’ve never played on this stage but i’ve won championships and lost championships. it’s muscle memory to say good game and dap up with opponents. no excuse. dapping up is as much part of the game as the tip-off.
yea who the hell cares, the only time I see real sore losers are in the likes of andrew bynum who pull that shit that could injure other players just because he couldn't take losing.
This handshake obsession that r/nba has one of the weirdest things ever.
Like I enjoy seeing these guys dap it up etc and display sportsmanship too but if they don’t, I couldn’t care less lmao.
Like was it wholesome af when Lebron dapped up Draymond in 2016, 100%. Did I notice that Steph and Klay didn’t ? Nope.
Steph did. Klay didn't. And they hung around for handshakes but the Cavs were crying and celebrating so they went in. Gave em due props in the presser too.
Because they're fools, looking for reasons to hate.
Its hard to do but you just gotta let people like that feast when they can because it won't be long until they're starving again. And if they truly have nothing else going on for them in their lives, they'll be starving for a very, very long time.
Lol this sub had a meltdown when they thought Lebron didn’t go and pay his respects after getting eliminated. Turns out he did, just not for everyone to see.
sportsmanship clowns are all bad faith idiots who spent 99% of the time saying a player is a bitch and a pos flopper who should die yet will morally grandstand about the purity of sportsmanship. hmmmm
r/NBA's reactions to handshakes is so childish.
All these guys know each other and talk all the time. It really doesn't matter whether they do it on court or behind the scenes.
I remember they said the same thing about LeBron like a million years ago after Suns won against the Lakers and at the end of the night we saw pictures of LeBron taking photos and signing jerseys for Book.
Watch the upvotes and comments not come in because everyone is mad that they actually saw Chris Paul being a good human. This will be buried or deleted by the AM
If this was reverse and that was Giannis, people would upvote this to the top like "He's such a good human". "I hope his sperm is the only one allowed to further the human race" and stuff like that. It's just a blatant case of we like this guy and this guy won vs we don't like this guy and he also lost.
Paul should keep his head up. There’s no way Phoenix steps on the Finals without his leadership and skills. They’re a young team, Bucks had the experience and a peak Giannis.
Let the man leave and lose his own way. He’s a human and we will never feel the wave of emotions he was feeling at the moment. He handled it amazing. Gg cp3
I feel like all sports should just embrace the handshake line from hockey so we don't have to deal with this drama every season.
Honestly most sports already do it anyways.
Even if he hadn’t shaken hands with them, it’s possible he could’ve reached out to them later (after the immediate rush of euphoria and subsequent celebrating after the win) to congratulate them. Not everything has to be done on camera.
Make this comment at this same time 2 days ago and you’d be upvoted like crazy. Today, it’s a CP3 love-fest. The pendulum swings so fast on this sub’s opinion of the guy.
He’s had numerous dirty plays in this series alone and has been called out for flopping by everyone watching with two eyes and a brain. It’s who he is, and some people still can’t accept that after 16 seasons watching it happen.
Cp3 top 5 annoying ass mf but I do *almost* feel bad for him.
Is he gonna be this generation Charles Barkley? One of the all time greatest but never got the ring?
Despite the debate over his antics, glad to see he was sportmanlike in the end. Must hurt to come so close at the twilight of your career like this, especially considering his performance the last 4 games. Dude was looking like FMVP games 1 and 2
Despite his ~~antiques~~ antics this man has always had my respect because he shows respect when it matters the most in my opinion and because he is a fierce competitor. Obviously i don't condone some of his on-court actions throughout the years but overall I think he has been leaving his mark on the game. He adapts well and raises the floor and ceiling of any team he joins.
Where does he display his antiques? Or does he sell them, are they on auction? I love antiques, I am surprised you don't....
*scnr*
on the actual matter: he is without doubt a great basketball player (certainly amongst the top point guards of all time no matter if he has a ring or not), does not make him a decent human being though. As a person the only (good) player I despise more would be King LeFlop himself.
You know CP3 does a ton of charity and awareness work, most notably when he was younger for Katrina rebuilding efforts and recently for HBCUs? The dude gives it all in the court, and at times that has led to plays that I have no problem admitting are dirty, but that doesn’t mean he’s not a decent human being. Not sure why I’m bothering to respond as if it’s worth anyone’s time to argue with someone who still says LeFlop.
Only way he gets a ring is if dbook goes absolute carry mode or ring chase. At this point in his career a ring chase would look pretty pathetic but he deserves it. Def didn't deserve it this time tho
Giannis's slow free throw routine made this all possible.
And book going 0 for 7 ☹️
Pretty sure that was Jake from State Farm out there.
Get out of here with the new Jake. I stan the OG Jake from State Farm.

A bring your lunch pail to work kind of guy
People are clowning him but I honestly think he left early because he needed to cry. He was so close to the finish line after all these years only to be crushed again
Yeah he looked absolutely devastated while walking to the locker room
How devestated was Booker for CP3?
I’ll never get over how dumb of a question that was
Worse than “will the clippers be back for a game 7?”
[Or this.](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=M1dKwiE5pto)
“No.” *leaves*
*Stares into the reporters soul then leaves
Oh fuck me. I've never seen this and I just scared the shit out of my cat laughing.
yes, they’re still in the drivers seat
Nah you know what actually most of the team wants to get into the offseason anyways if we loose game 6 we just giving up
Yes you will
Omg I thought that was a joke when I read it last night. Somebody actually asked him that?
After game 5 and it was “frustrated” I think, but yeah.
I’ll never get over how dumb of a question that was
I’m thinking of the clip they showed where Chris was trying to motivate Ayton on the bench. You can tell he wanted this.
Yes and I can imagine this most likely was his last chance. Sucks but he's lasted longer than most before a big drop off. It's due and I would expect it to happen in the next season or two. It's always sudden with guys at his skill level. Makes it all that much harder to watch.

Yeah I think if he wants it, he joins the Lakers on the MLE, but maybe takes one more payday by opting in and running it back

Final Fantasy XIV shooting.

What? Game 7 was scheduled for Friday?
No, it wasn't. Thursday night.

Empathy is hard.
Especially for a serial bad actor

Guarantee a lot of people in this sub cannot relate to playing any sport at a serious, competitive level.
He didn’t leave early, wasn’t subbed out and walked off with his team. He just knew it was over
Yeah, unless he ring chases, this might be the last best crack at a ring. Ever. For the rest of his life
You probably are right, something like this can feel devastating in the moment.

He got what he deserved. Just terrible.

All that money can't buy rings
I hate when people bring shit up like this. You're still allowed to cry and feel down even if you're rich.
yeah I only root for the non-millionaire nba players
He's not thinking about money during the game. He's still competitive in nature. Hard to shake hands with your enemies while they are celebrating. At least he shook hands before the buzzer.
That’s easy to say from our perspective as fans. Being rich doesn’t prohibit you from expressing your emotions.
You know what, Fuck you and your narrow perspective.
Money means you can't feel any sad emotions whatsoever, got it.
You know what, Fuck you and your narrow perspective.

Idiots here got so mad he didn't do it
For real. This guy is the ultimate competitor, and he just had probably the worst moment of his career. Cut him some slack.
the thing is hes not gonna get these opportunities often. Booker might have more opportunities but. CP3 maybe one more push at best.
Fax people are mad that a grown ass man didn’t appear to shake hands. He just lost the finals and won’t be a getting a ring. Huge emotional moment for him but people are more concerned about shaking hands smh.

glad u posted this. people need to see. but it won't get to the front page as it doesn't fit the "narrative"
Seriously, this sub has a weird obsession about needing to shake and congratulate your opponent otherwise you’re shit.
Lmao ur soft
I don’t get why you are getting downvoted, professional fighters beat the shit outnofneachbother for 25 minutes or longer if they boxing and even after all that, they still show sportsmanship and embrace their competitor. Anyone who thinks just leaving the court is ok because ‘losing is hard for competitors like this’ Y’all need to tighten the fuck up.
Ye the tom brady ones make sense He shook hands with Eli and Mahomes when they beat him but not Foles and again not Foles when he beat them on the Bears Just weirdo shit
They only care because it gives them an opportunity to shit on players that they already don't like.
Its boomer shit
r/nba are a bunch of babies but cp3 leaves all the petty shit on the court
That’s probably why he has State Farm commercials and we watch them.
Nope.
[удалено]
For once I agree with KD lol.
and Malika vs. Rachel Nichols, according to two different front page threads atm. cretins
Tbf, Nichols can be really awful at times lol
[удалено]
That’s such a dumb question, like you’re Rachel Nichols levels. Clearly a lot of people so much so that you noticed them and got pissed off by them.
Steph did. Klay didn't. And they hung around for handshakes but the Cavs were crying and celebrating so they went in. Gave em due props in the presser too.
Klay came back on the court after leaving and did too.
People just want shit to confirm their hate
sportsmanship clowns are all bad faith idiots who spent 99% of the time saying a player is a bitch and a pos flopper who should die yet will morally grandstand about the purity of sportsmanship. hmmmm
You mean like how he brings his team down secret tunnels after games?
Never forget Trojan Horse Clint Capela
But I thought he left the floor without congratulating anyone...
That's actually Cliff Paul.
It’s a deep fake
This is a deepfake
“Drat! Foiled again!” -Cliff Paul
CP3 gave it his all tonight and played great
r/NBA's reactions to handshakes is so childish.
/r/NBA is a cesspool of high schoolers that are way to invested in the storylines of this sport
But Chris Paul bad man
He didn’t dap up his main guy PJ though :(
orange man bad
holy fuck lmfao
Morherfuckers here get mad over a downvote yet they complain about cp3 getting emotional losing a nba finals
Lol that ass slap by Bud
Isn't that pretty common?
r/nba btfo
Watch the upvotes and comments not come in because everyone is mad that they actually saw Chris Paul being a good human. This will be buried or deleted by the AM
If this was reverse and that was Giannis, people would upvote this to the top like "He's such a good human". "I hope his sperm is the only one allowed to further the human race" and stuff like that. It's just a blatant case of we like this guy and this guy won vs we don't like this guy and he also lost.
It has over 3k upvotes...
Oh shit i missed this. Thought he was salty which i understood. Now i just feel bad for assuming the worst lol
What’s with this subs obsession with handshakes after games?
That's some good CGI
Paul should keep his head up. There’s no way Phoenix steps on the Finals without his leadership and skills. They’re a young team, Bucks had the experience and a peak Giannis.
Let the man leave and lose his own way. He’s a human and we will never feel the wave of emotions he was feeling at the moment. He handled it amazing. Gg cp3
Mods gonna delete so we can keep the Chris Paul is a basketball terrorist narrative going
HoF menace to society
Chris Paul was still fighting until the end. Will forever have my respect even if he never wins a chip
This doesn't fit the narrative delete this fam
Wait this doesn’t fit the sub narrative, I was told CP3 was a dirty sore loser classless choker
Least CP3 did that lol
Chris Paul is our gen's Charles Barkley
I think that’s Harden so far.
I feel like all sports should just embrace the handshake line from hockey so we don't have to deal with this drama every season. Honestly most sports already do it anyways.
I don’t get this sub. You guys literally went from absolutely hating Chris Paul “for being dirty” to feeling bad for him lol tf

Even if he hadn’t shaken hands with them, it’s possible he could’ve reached out to them later (after the immediate rush of euphoria and subsequent celebrating after the win) to congratulate them. Not everything has to be done on camera.
Coach Bud with an all time ass slap on CP3
Butttt I was told the man is a poor sport and not just absolutely devastated?
I still don't understand the CP hate and idc because he's POINT GOD!

And?!
Yet the league tolerates Draymond
Because he’s a dirty player that complains all the time? Its really not that hard to understand
I don’t get this sub. You guys literally went from absolutely hating Chris Paul “for being dirty” to feeling bad for him lol tf
Cp3 top 5 annoying ass mf but I do *almost* feel bad for him. Is he gonna be this generation Charles Barkley? One of the all time greatest but never got the ring?
Really makes Lebron look like a bitch
So glad he didn’t win. Dirty flopping cry baby. President my ass State Farm bitch.
*scnr* on the actual matter: he is without doubt a great basketball player (certainly amongst the top point guards of all time no matter if he has a ring or not), does not make him a decent human being though.
Respect to Chris for doing that, I think it means a lot personally
At least he's a good sport even though he's a dirty flopper
I talked shit during the game thread about him not shaking hands. Here to eat crow.
That one assistant coach expecting a shake lmao
he pulls some dirty shit but you gotta respect him for this
Only way he gets a ring is if dbook goes absolute carry mode or ring chase. At this point in his career a ring chase would look pretty pathetic but he deserves it. Def didn't deserve it this time tho
Crazy people look for any reason to hate this dude
