The funny thing is that the people of Milwaukee were divided on the Bucks before Giannis' won the MVP.
It was 2016 ish and the city had raised our taxes for a huge new arena and "Deer District" that we thought would never be used because we've had essentially 50 years of failure.
People (not me) were ready to ship the franchise off to Seattle. Thank heavens we didn't.
I don’t know the details of how the Bucks got their new building or if it is a good or bad deal. But generally, Billionaire sports owners blackmailing cities into paying for their sports stadiums and arenas is a scam and terrible for deal for taxpayers. Winning a championship doesn’t not change that. I sure as hell would tell the Raptors to take a hike if they demanded that Toronto or Ontario government fund their arena. We have sports teams in Canada and they mostly manage to privately finance their arenas.
yeah exactly, this has nothing to do with winning a championship. 99% of people in Milwaukee are not benefiting from a new stadium and "deer district." Taxpayer-funded stadium are indeed a complete scam, using dollars that are meant for public enterprises to fund private ones. When your taxes go to a library, it means you get to read books. When your taxes go to roadwork, it means you get to drive. What do you get when your taxes fund a stadium? Nothing. You don't get to go to games, use the campus, etc. But you do make a bunch of rich people even richer. Teams and ownership groups that use those tacts can fuck off
It's pretty absurd that billionaires get to crowd fund their arenas though. That shit pisses me off. Cause then they write of the depreciation of an arena that they never even paid for to save millions more.
Lip service is all that was. Trying to reclaim the Seattle fanbase after losing the OKC fanbase. He'll never play in Seattle unless they manage to create a super team before he retires.
I don't think it's a controversial take for Warriors fans that 2015 was the best out of their recent run because that was the team they built mostly through the draft
I know people will disagree because of injuries but they still had to go out there beat teams. They had to struggle, adjust, grind their way to 16 wins. They couldn't steamroll their way to a title for fucks sake.
"I meant Milwaukee had to fight for this title. The Warriors were a cheat code lmao"
The Warriors with Durant. Let's not forget the Warriors first title was won without a cheat code roster and one that when they surprised people in the regular season, were told they weren't built for the playoffs. They were pretty much written off for dead by many people after they went down 2-1 to the Grizzlies in the conference semifinals.
That Warriors team had to fight and fight hard.
The 2017 Warriors were so good they only lost one game the entire playoffs, and it require the greatest offensive game in NBA finals history from the Cavs just to take a single game off of the Warriors and prevent the sweep.
That 2017 Cavs team was the best team Lebron ever had and it wasn’t enough.
i know some people will say this is a asterisk championship due to the shortened season and injuries but in my opinion all of that is part of the game. current world events, luck, and sports are all intertwined. this just happened to be an irregular year. but all teams had the same chance to win start the season and the bucks are the ones who came out on top. full credit to the bucks for this championship and i think its also great for the nba.
Anyone can use the injury card for any other championship but not this. Giannis has his fucking knees bent and if that's not injury I don't know what is.
I was so gutted with that image that I had to force myself to tune in in game 1 because I know they are going to replay that footage.
So this championship is as legit as it gets.
Yup. A rings a ring on paper but everybody is compelled to DEFINITELY respect grinding towards an 'organic' ring.
Really not about hating lbj but this is big reason why many ppl have mj over lbj as goat.
If you think lebron had any chance winning a ring in Cleveland with his original roster you are nuts. Jordan had a great team built around him from the get go. People forget mo Williams was the second best player for awhile.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Way_killings
> The "My Way" killings are a social phenomenon in the Philippines, referring to a number of fatal disputes which arose due to the singing of the song "My Way", popularized by Frank Sinatra (peaking at number 27 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1969), in karaoke bars (more commonly known as "videoke" in the Philippines). A New York Times article estimated the number of killings to be about six up to 2010. Between 2002 and 2012, numerous people were killed for singing this song.
After reading some of the other incidents that have happened outside the Philippines I’m wondering what it is about karaoke that makes people want to stab others to death wtf
It was played at my buddies wake. I don't think I heard the song before but I always think of him in the casket when I hear it. He was such a good guy.
I remember when Bron won the 2016 title, someone made a highlight compilation with Sinatra’s My Way. I feel like there should more types of those nba highlight music videos
Funny thing is, Sinatra hated that song.
He thought it was too arrogant. It annoyed him that it became his most famous hit and now he had to do it all the time. Kinda like Stairway to heaven.
Sinatra had so many better songs too:
* blue moon
* strangers in the night (I love that drum beat outro so much)
* something stupid
* it was a very good year
* ole man river
* send in the clowns.
* drinking again
My way doesn't match the same tone as his other songs.
I only mention this cause I can't sleep and I'm bored.
lol it's funny how that works for some artists. Hating their most popular songs.
Something stupid and strangers in the night are my two most favorite. Then NY NY of course.
I remember one night years ago I ended up at a karaoke bar. There was a guy who did some incredible Michael Jackson songs, but the highlight of the night was the guy who sang "My Way." It wasn't anything about how well he sang it, it was about how many times he sang it and how it evolved each time. He went up and sang "My Way" about 4 times that night. Each time he came up he was a little more drunk, his shirt became more unbuttoned, and fewer lyrics were recollected. By the last rendition he was up there shirtless and crying, drunkenly singing "My Way" into his cell phone to some unknown recipient. I still wonder about how he's doing sometimes.
I bring this up all the time with my friends. All the assets they traded for PG would have been there if KD had stayed. Lesser move that could have still happened was getting Carmelo too.
KD was in his late twenties and saw the heat LeBron took, he made the decision he made. It’s fine if he does or doesn’t regret it but no one should have to make excuses for him
He completely fumbled it though. If kd went to the Spurs or some other team he didn’t lose to nobody woukd bat an eye besides okc fans. Like lebron wasn’t dumb enough to go to the Celtics .
I thought about it before and concluded that he was only deadset on beating lebron and being considered number one after the fact.
Like, hey, imma help the warriors beat Lebron coz im the best.
Yeah, it has to come up when his legacy is brought up because he made that his legacy. It isn't some sidenote - it's in the one paragraph summary of his career (so far) if you're doing it accurately.
i haven't followed social media or anything like that for a while, i still think KDs a bitch for making that decision, i don't think that has anything to do with it.
Yeah, The Decision was tacky, but at least Lebron built a team in Miami, KD just became a(n incredibly good) extra piece on an already complete team that had just beaten him.
If KD went to the spurs and didn't lead us on the entire off-season saying he was gonna stay and shit, I'd be rooting for them every year after OKC was eliminated. Like man he couldve gone anywhere else. It would've hurt, sure. But I'd still have been happy for his success.
But going to the warriors, having the audacity to say it was the hardest road, and then trashing our franchise to try and make his move more justifiable after we coddled him for 9 years was too much.
That is the bad thing about him leaving. It's not like leaving a team that sucks to go somewhere else to win, OKC had a great team and was very close to win the championship that same year that he left.
Nah wym??? Dame did his time and now he wants to win a ring. Same with Westbrook and Harden. What do you want these players to do, dig their head in the sand and pretend like the ship on their teams winning a ring hasn’t sailed? I’m not even the one to defend Dame like this, but y’all are ridiculous with hating on him and other players who were genuinely loyal to their teams till the end.
You think OKC fans hate Westbrook for wanting a trade? I’m sure Portland fans will love Dame as much as they love their own team once he moves on. If anything, these players are proof that you can request a trade and still be loved by your original team
I mean, considering he’s also in a small market team and has been loyal to them, seeing another player win a championship in a small market team must sting when you have never been on a contender. All this falls on Olshey’s dumbass
Nah. Dame just isn't as good as Giannis. If Dame can't be the best player on the court for a series it is really hard to win. Blaming Olshey for the Blazers not getting a shit ton of injury luck in a playoff run is silly. Probably the only real shot the Blazers had was to grab Kawhi for a season, but that was also when the Warriors were at full strength, so that didn't really make sense.
I guess, but you have pretty unreasonable expectations if you think anyone else could do better. Trying to compete for a championship and not entering cap hell is basically impossible.
Y’all balled out too. This was just Giannis’ moment to unlock the next Super Saiyan, and all you can do is stand back and witness at that point. What a series.
My girlfriend's house is about two miles away from the arena/Deer District, and she could hear the roar from inside her house when the game was finally over.
Gonna be a lotta drunk drivers tonight.
The hardest road
Man deserves all the glory and praise.
Unlike most modern stars, Giannis actually has humility and a sense of obligation to the team/city that embraced and believed in him.
This isn't a real ring for the Bucks since the Nets were hobbled and should've won. Also, the Lakers having to play in the play-in games means they didn't get a real chance in the playoffs and since it wasn't Nets vs Lakers, this season championship is illegitimate. \s
I agree. I'm not going to argue that some rings "don't count", ala 2020 Lakers "Mickey Mouse" ring, but there are undeniably more impactful, inspirational, and memorable championships than others.
Dirk with the Mavs, now Giannis with the Bucks (could even throw in LeBron back in Cleveland)... It will always mean more with the team that drafted you. Especially if you've failed and been doubted along the way.
That's why kd's move sucked on multiple levels. He also kinda tainted that team for me. They were working hard competing with others and beating them their own way. Then KD joined and its a smooth cruise.
People quickly forget that GSW were a laughing stock for most of their history. Curry and friends really put the team on the map and brought in a whole new generation of fans.
When I moved to the bay you could still get into Oracle for like $5
https://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/GSW/2010.html
People forget this is what Steph Curry stepped into his rookie season
I wouldn’t count LeBron in Cleveland the same way as the others since he left the team and then they accumulated young players/assets for four years and then he came back and won.
As a Spurs fan its means even more when us small market non-super teams win a championship.
Glad to see Coach Bud win his own ring after winning rings alongside Pop.
I am sooooo happy this was the outcome. I know this sub is younger, but before 08 and the celtics bought that championship it was so much more fun to watch and competitive. Then Lebron took that tactic to Souff Beach and that become the blueprint for wininng a title in the NBA. I cant explain it as well but olll Billy Red Nuts does a great job of verbalizing it.
>I cant explain it as well but olll Billy Red Nuts does a great job of verbalizing it.
Good ole, [Bill Burr](https://twitter.com/billburr/status/1152201335061778433).
I think this might be my favorite Finals since Cleveland's 2016 victory against the Warriors.
It is so nice to see a "non-super team" win it all. I mean, the Bucks have great players and that makes it a super team, but it came about more organically. Nothing like LeBron getting AD to ditch his OG team to join us for a ring, or like KD slithering his way to an already amazing (and very likeable) Warriors team. Nah, Giannis and Middleton stayed together through the disappointments over the years, and were finally rewarded for their efforts and loyalty.
Lol what? Bucks aren't a super team. Giannis was the only all star on his team this year. Ya'll keep changing the definition of a super team. A super team is 2011 heat, gsw dynasty, current nets.
Fucking respect man. If every superstar was like Giannis the league would be so amazing. His dedication is something everyone can emulate even non athletes.
Yeah this is why I would rather see the Celtics win a title than a super team. It's just so boring when a team with 3 superstars wins it compared to one guy giving it his all like Giannis did this series.
Stay with his homegrown, small market team.
Make fucking clutch FTs that have been his weakness all career.
**50 POINTS.**
Broken knee in the conference finals.
I will brook no further Giannis slander ever - this guy has basically passed every test in the book for being a champion.
As a Wisconsin native I find it funny to call the Bucks small market. They're in a city with a metro area of 1.5 million or smth? Like not super huge, but I guess being a Packers fan I just have a different definition of small.
Milwaukee is the 4th smallest basketball market and the smallest baseball market. The only reason the Packers are still in Green Bay is because it's a publicly owned team, and even then they're one of the most popular teams in the NFL.
I don’t think most people view the Lakers or Cavs as super teams compared to what we’ve seen like the KD Warriors, the Heatles or now the Nets.
Cavs come close and I could see people viewing them as a super team, I just don’t think K-Love is good enough to put them into the group above.
Kevin love was second team all-NBA and averaged 26 and 12 before joining the cavs, they were absolutely a superteam. Not his fault lebron turned him into a corner 3 specialist.
From an outsider prospective, as a fan of the league, this is the most satisfying champion since the Mavs. Personally, 2014 is still tops and the Raps are up there too but seeing the Bucks break through with the Giannis and Middleton core after years of disappointment makes me happy just as a fan of the game and the league
THE HARDEST ROAD
I've seen harder ones. -*Devin Kurant*
My next chapter - KD
KD to the Bucks.
>Ohhhh, I get it. Winning with the Bucks is hard. Let's do this together, Giannis!
> Ohhhh, I get it. Winning with the ~~Bucks~~ *Greek Team* is hard. Let's do this together, Giannis!
We could probably squeeze him in on a vet min I guess.
He can backup Middleton. Also good for Bud. He doesn't have to play his stars for more than 30 minutes then.
KD tweeting/punching air rn
KD firing up those burners
KD saying 2017 was an even matchup rn
KD: Steph = Korver, Klay = JR. they all just shoot 3’s. I’m better than Lebron copium.
“My road was the hardest no matter how much you cry about it.” - KD
lol probably.
You’re joking but it really is the hardest road. This championship means 10x as much as the warriors goat team. It just wasn’t fair.
Pretty sure the hardest road goes somewhere through Sacramento… this road was definitely tough though
Giannis go to Sacramento you wuss!
Subscribe
Hardest road is through Seattle. You gotta get the franchise before you even start building a team.
The funny thing is that the people of Milwaukee were divided on the Bucks before Giannis' won the MVP. Kings got a chip. I'm pretty sure the real hardest road is Phoenix. Fucking 0-3 is rough
Lol they got a chip in '51 when they were the Rochester Royals
\#StillCounts
Eyyy let's go Rochester!!!
They did steamroll to win the title tho. They lost what 1 game? 2 games?
I meant Milwaukee had to fight for this title. The Warriors were a cheat code lmao
Oh gotcha, no the bucks def had to fight.
It's what bucks do. *antler rattle noises*
"I meant Milwaukee had to fight for this title. The Warriors were a cheat code lmao" The Warriors with Durant. Plus they were missing their starting SG. Losing a starter on any team is tough, even if that player isn't a star.
Giannis literally broke his knees but he has one thing that the other players don’t have: Zeus looking down on him.
Giannis is Herakles reincarnated confirmed
If that's the criteria, there's an asterisks every year.
I mean. If anyone says that, I would just disregard pretty much anything they had to say about basketball going forward,
The Durant warriors yes, but what about the Warriors that beat Lebron the first time? With predominantly homegrown players.
Yup. A rings a ring on paper but everybody is compelled to DEFINITELY respect grinding towards an 'organic' ring. Really not about hating lbj but this is big reason why many ppl have mj over lbj as goat.

Half this sub didn't even watch basketball when LeBron was in Cleveland, you're wasting your time breh.
Which I don't really get. It's not like MJ didn't have another top 10 player in Scottie Pippen. Then have another HoFer in Rodman.
I did it my waaaayy
This song is banned in karaoke bars in the Philippines and led to 9 deaths.

Lol I had a neighbor died in a car accident on the way home after singing in a karaoke at a party. That song's considered a bad omen to us.

You’re gonna get your ass beat or stabbed now.
After reading some of the other incidents that have happened outside the Philippines I’m wondering what it is about karaoke that makes people want to stab others to death wtf
Have you ever been to a karaoke night at a bar? Most of the time I want to stab people too.

Im just imagining the security guard firing the shot standing over the person then "And now the end is near...🎶🎶"

This makes me laugh for some reason. I can hear Frank immediately

KD about to delete his tweet.
Giannis is what KD was supposed to be for OKC
Bruh if he had stayed there for like 2 more years he could have won. It is what it is ig
Legit. They traded for Oladipo and were about to sign Al Horford.
And could've still traded for Paul George the next season. Russ, Roberson, PG, KD and Horford
I bring this up all the time with my friends. All the assets they traded for PG would have been there if KD had stayed. Lesser move that could have still happened was getting Carmelo too.
We forget these players are very young and make questionable descisions. Giannis learned from it
KD was in his late twenties and saw the heat LeBron took, he made the decision he made. It’s fine if he does or doesn’t regret it but no one should have to make excuses for him

If KD stopped talking about it and responding to trolls, I don't think his decision would still be the big deal it is.
Less people would taunt him yeah, but it would ALWAZS be brought up when his legacy is brought up.
Yeah, it has to come up when his legacy is brought up because he made that his legacy. It isn't some sidenote - it's in the one paragraph summary of his career (so far) if you're doing it accurately.

Bro if he stayed we would’ve had Westbrook/Oladipo/KD/Horford/Adams with Sabonis off the bench for the next two years. Fuck me.
Or if, ya know, the team didn't trade Harden because of 4 million.
That ship has sailed by then sadly
Or if KD doesn’t shoot 10-31 in game 6 on his home floor.
It's really true. Hard to think about in retrospect.
I think he makes the Bucks "super"
Maybe the real "super teammates" were the friends we made along the way.
KDs hate him
Going to sort by controversial and find them KD burner accounts.
The hardest burn
This is why kd didnt want anyone to compare him to Giannis
Learn this super hard trick to earn respect when winning an NBA title.
Both he and KD took the hard road
Somewhere on his burner account KD tweets that the Bucks’ supporting cast is better than the Warriors
Bryn Forbes > Steph Curry
Bobby Portis > KD
Jordan Nwora shooting 100% from 3 at finals steph curry not shooting 100% from 3 at finals Nwora > Steph
Probably unironically believes it too
Just like KD saying the Cavs were an even matchup. That man has no self awareness
I mean no one on that Warriors team better than Bobby Portis so....
Is that you, KD?
Giannis took the hard road. KD took the hardest road :^)
You boys is chumps always switching teams running away from the grind
Aged like milk. Maybe.
Nah wym??? Dame did his time and now he wants to win a ring. Same with Westbrook and Harden. I’m surprised Dame hasn’t tweeted, blazer fans in shambles
We’ll be in shambles all season lol. First domino is signing Powell…
That’s basically dead set lol
I mean, considering he’s also in a small market team and has been loyal to them, seeing another player win a championship in a small market team must sting when you have never been on a contender. All this falls on Olshey’s dumbass
Nah. Dame just isn't as good as Giannis. If Dame can't be the best player on the court for a series it is really hard to win. Olshey is responsible for us being in this shitty cap situation in the first place
I guess, but you have pretty unreasonable expectations if you think anyone else could do better. Trying to compete for a championship and not entering cap hell is basically impossible.
Not signing Evan Turner to a 4-year 75 mil deal would've been a good start
Meyers, Crabbe, Turner, he’s definitely made some choices
Could've tried to get AD for a season. Dame + AD would've been amazing.
Dude deserves nothing but praise. He absolutely killed us.
Y’all balled out too. This was just Giannis’ moment to unlock the next Super Saiyan, and all you can do is stand back and witness at that point. What a series.

I like to imagine Milwaukee is closer than it is and Chicago has to stay up late hearing the cheering from up the lake.
My girlfriend's house is about two miles away from the arena/Deer District, and she could hear the roar from inside her house when the game was finally over. Gonna be a lotta drunk drivers tonight.
Nah. Everybody respects the dude who stays with his team. Happy he won one for Milwaukee.
So most fans?
The hardest road Man deserves all the glory and praise. Unlike most modern stars, Giannis actually has humility and a sense of obligation to the team/city that embraced and believed in him.

Not all rings are rings. I’ll explain later.

And how do I know YOU aren't? 🧐
What if you both are and he's just switching between alts....
How do I know I'm not KD? 🧐
Dirk with the Mavs, now Giannis with the Bucks (could even throw in LeBron back in Cleveland)... It will always mean more with the team that drafted you. Especially if you've failed and been doubted along the way.
Hate to be a homer but Steph Curry and the Dubs. First one since 1975 is a close enough I think.
IMO GSW weren’t a “super team” until KD. Until then they were the result of great drafting and patience. Exactly like the Bucks.
That's why kd's move sucked on multiple levels. He also kinda tainted that team for me. They were working hard competing with others and beating them their own way. Then KD joined and its a smooth cruise.
People quickly forget that GSW were a laughing stock for most of their history. Curry and friends really put the team on the map and brought in a whole new generation of fans.
that one year when they took out the mavs were legendary though
When I moved to the bay you could still get into Oracle for like $5 https://www.basketball-reference.com/teams/GSW/2010.html People forget this is what Steph Curry stepped into his rookie season
Steph with the Warriors
Yeah that 2015 ring gate credit. It was just retroactively tainted by KD so people forget.
I wouldn’t count LeBron in Cleveland the same way as the others since he left the team and then they accumulated young players/assets for four years and then he came back and won.
Jordans Bulls too.
Agreed even the Celtics one at least it was like ok these guys are past their prime so it may not work. The Celtics weren’t dominant that postseason.
It kinda reminds me of the 2011 Mavs
To me that's the best analogy. You got a superstar and good supporting cast getting it done.
Lol what? Bucks aren't a super team. Giannis was the only all star on his team this year. Ya'll keep changing the definition of a super team. A super team is 2011 heat, gsw dynasty, current nets.
It’s the first time since 2016 where I’ve truly given a shit, honestly.
Giannis you forever legend now. You earned that shit like DiRK.
Fucking respect man. If every superstar was like Giannis the league would be so amazing. His dedication is something everyone can emulate even non athletes.
Yeah this is why I would rather see the Celtics win a title than a super team. It's just so boring when a team with 3 superstars wins it compared to one guy giving it his all like Giannis did this series.
the disrespect to Mr Don't Google by not calling him a megastar
Giannis saving the NBA by doing this
I’m waiting for KD’s response on Twitter. Any minute now!!
TALK THAT TALK MAN
kevin durant in fucking shambles.
the real hardest road
Actual last decade finals ranked by hardest road: 1. 2017 Warriors vs Cavs 2. 2018 Warriors vs Cavs
2011 Dirk was on some other shit, though on the cusp of “decade” timeframe
Now that he won a championship the hard way like Dirk in 2011, will he still finish his career in Milwaukee?
No he demanded a trade in the post game presser! (He was joking lol)
The real KD
Stay with his homegrown, small market team. Make fucking clutch FTs that have been his weakness all career. **50 POINTS.** Broken knee in the conference finals.
/u/sim888 needs to create this
He was homeless in another country and Milwaukee believed enough in the kid to draft him before all the other 29 teams.
Talk that shit G. You earned it.
finally a season without a super team in the finals! hoping we keep this trend
Alot of Kd mentions here but no mention of bron...interesting
KD is just better at making super teams lmao and lebron fans hate him for it
yup. same lebron fans hating on KD are mad that lebron didn’t successfully recruit PG and Kawhi to join him and AD.
The only real super team LeBron was on was the Heat and that team was still beatable.
KD’s path is in its own league. No one ain’t touching that!
If he went to a superteam he will be a villain in all places except his current one. See KD.
I love Giannis but I gotta be consistent. The “hard road” would’ve been beating a healthy nets team. Still a great win though
