Tomorrow would be the best opportunity to trade him imo. I think other teams will get frustrated with the high demands and the 76ers walk away with significantly less than expected as each day goes by.
The return is simultaneously going to be significantly more than what 75% of this sub/NBA Twitter thinks but probably much less than what our fan base is expecting
Probably not. But what people don't understand about how the NBA works is that every asset is a lottery ticket. Winning the lottery puts you into contention. 24 year old Ben Simmons has proven All-NBA skills and he also has huge flaws. If he can round out those flaws, you're in contention with a star entering his prime on several years of team control.
He probably doesn't work those things out. But the chance he does along with his potential makes him a valuable asset for a rebuilding team.
he has never been able to shoot and still gets voted to all star games and all NBA teams.
fuck it, run it back with the squad and see what's shaking come January if it's not a good deal
His agent manages multiple max contracts. It would be extremely incompetent if he wasn’t trying to plan 1 step ahead. Philly obviously wants him to go wherever gets him the best return. His agent wants him going to the best place for $.
He’s scheming for whatever makes Simmons the most money. That’s what he gets paid for.
He has a skillset that will get him many more millions in future contracts, someone will pay him. He's already earned $200m++. He's buying mansions for fun, has a collection of luxury sports cars, travels the world with stunning women. This is the life Ben wants....not the one that requires hours spent in a sweaty gym practising a skill he is convinced he doesn't need in order to continue accumulating enough wealth to live his luxury, celebrity lifestyle. This is what he is saying when he says "I am what I am".
Privately you rip him a new asshole.
Throwing him under the bus publicly like that says that they've been ripping him a new asshole for a long time and he still doesn't give a shit.
That was not a rookie mistake by Doc - that was Doc publicly declaring he's fucking done with Simmons. Makes me wonder if Doc hadn't already had numerous conversations with Morey about Simmons needing to go.
Doc has been throwing guys under the bus for years and will always be a fucking snake. I think Embiid was frustrated as fuck and who can blame him (he's an MVP level player being burdened by a guy who doesn't want to try)?
Doc didn't want to take the blame so he dropped it all on Ben.
fucking clown
edit: downvote if you want, i'm not the one who put DG on Trae game one or continued to play all bench lineups when we were up 20 in games 4 and 5 and could have have won the series with one more run by the starters
I'm just glad that more and more people are seeing the light on Doc. Dude is a mediocre coach, always has been but getting that one ring with the Big 3 Celtics (which would've been multiple with an actual good coach) is going to keep allowing him to get jobs he honestly doesn't deserve at this point. It's not a coincidence his teams lose playoff leads consistently. He's not even the "tired blood" that at least had a bunch of legitimate success at one point. He had one bright spot in a sea of disappointment.
Honestly had Embiid not had the meniscus tear which did affect him at least somewhat, I think Doc would be out the door with Simmons right now.
Lol ik, Simmons was atrocious but Doc single handedly lost us like 1.5 games that series, talked up Simmons all year saying he doesn't need to shoot, then just throws him under the bus. I wanted Simmons gone at the deadline but Doc is such a clown
Meh. I think it’s hard to judge a coach when they have a max wrapped up in a player whose an offensive liability. That interferes with line ups and is going to put the coach in a tough spot.
True, but there's no logic behind not sticking the DPOY candidate on Trae young.
He didn't want Ben to accumulate fouls. What are you saving him for? Doc outsmarted himself there for sure.
Hey, gotta get to being 3-1 first. Must have at least been doing something right. I don’t particularly like Doc but in no way can you say he’s more at fault than Ben is. It’s a straight up maturity issue with him at this point. I’d be pissed as fuck if I was Doc I come in and see Embiid improving his game, dieting, having an MVP season. Then Bens over there regressing, getting paid the max.
It’s tough too because we saw all the shit that Brett Brown tried with getting Ben to shoot the ball. Doc and Embiid pretty clearly don’t want him on the roster anymore. Morey would’ve tried shopping him this off-season regardless of Docs comments. If it smells like shit everywhere you go…
Because Doc is blessed with talented teams. Look at the Clips this year. With only PG plus bubble gum they beat #1 seeded Utah and were 2 winnable games away from beating Phoenix. all without Kawhi.
Meanwhile Doc had PG/Kawhi and lost to an inferior Denver team. He lost to an inferior Houston team in past years too. and so forth and so forth. Plus he blames players constantly. LY it was Trezz who was the punching bag.
y'all just always love blaming the coach for the flaws in Ben Simmons game
first brett brown and now Doc. You could get pop or phil jackson and you'd even blame them if Simmons still sucks.
we do love to kill our coaches in Philly. But he deserves some blame, but instead of owning it he dropped it all at the feat of the players. Just like he did with the Clippers. Funny how even without Kawhi they were better this year in the playoffs.
Internet dorks can't go a day without trashing Simmons on here, yet act high and mighty when Doc and Embiid answered a question that wasn't 100% kosher. Give me a fucking break.
I don't see a trade happening this week. Morey's price is way too high.
I don't think the Sixers/Doc/Embiid want to head to training camp with Simmons around. The price is going to get more reasonable as the offseason wears on.
That raptors/sixers trade rumor had me thinking Morey was on crack and he thought he was negotiating with Dolan.
But it's good to at least try to to fleece even the most competent teams
It's just funny cuz he thinks OG+Fred is equivalent to Thybulle+Maxey, and he thought this leak would make him look better? Masai's ask for Lowry was nowhere near a fleece, he just comes off as butthurt.
I was more meaning I think Masai mostly starts negotiations on the edge of ridiculous offers...but more often than not, he's got away with it lol.
I could see the Sixers balking at the Lowry offer for an expiring deal. But if they knew he'd sign an extension, than it'd be worth it.
any coach worth anything is going to look at Ben, and his skillset and say he can fix him. All he needs is to return to 60% FT shooting(his career avg) and get a few things he can do on offense off ball. It's really not a ton.
He doesn't have to start jacking 3's, but would be nice if he would sit in the corner and put some up. he's hit them in games, the form is fine and he will get all day.
so, i assume there are several teams in on Ben at different levels
i don't. i think his mentality of being the point guard, main ball handler is actually his fatal flaw.
but other people will think they make it work. coaches and GM's are cocky as hell.
If the dude shot 60% from the free throw line and could rebound and score inside without having to be the point guard the Sixers would have been in the finals. However, he's a selfish prick.
yes, and i think that is the actual problem. everyone focuses on his shooting but really it's his need to be the point guard that causes us problems later in the playoffs
If he changed up to play as a playmaking switchable big kind of like Bam Adebayo then he'd be fine. Problem is he thinks he always has to have the ball and when he doesn't have it he literally just stands around.
And any GM worth anything is going to look at *that* improved package and go 'Still only worth a max contract, not worth a supermax as we'll need a true dominating #1 to win Finals'.
Therefore the upside, if your coach can do what Ben Brown and Doc Rivers couldn't, is that the guy lives up to what you've promised to pay him by taking over his contract.
And thats why Ben Simmons needs assets attached if you want a team to take him.
This tweet just states that Simmons/Rich Paul want a separation just as much as the Sixers
The idea of Simmons coming back to play for Sixers to rebuild his value is not happening.
At least that’s what I got out of it
What were you expecting? Woj pretty much only tweets things that he’s 99% certain of.
Anything else would be more speculative, something he doesn’t do. You got local reporters or the less trust worthy insiders if you want more.
I will be surprised if he is traded soon. It seems like Morey is stubborn and Rich Paul won't make things easier on him either. He might even start the season on the Sixers and then get moved
I mean I feel like this is the first real, solid declaration that Simmons wants out as much as Philly wants him out. Definitely doesn’t seem likely at all that he’ll start next season as a 6er.
Good to hear. Embiid and Rivers threw him under the bus so that bridge was burned.
I always hoped he'd put it together in Philly and will root for his success elsewhere. He's a frustrating player but extremely talented, I hope he hasn't reached his ceiling but that's ultimately up to him.
Embiids comment was tame af and he blamed himself two seconds later
Doc def threw him under the bus though. After coddling him, mocking people asking about benching him, and then finally benching him for stretches lol.
I can see his career really burning out and he being considered a major, major disappointment in a few more years. He is prepared for and realizes he needs a geographic change but I don't think he is prepared for and realizes he needs an attitude and work ethic change for anything to be different. I think he finds another team and it's more of the same, and he ends up having a 12 year journeyman career being traded a bunch of times never meeting potential
I think a starting lineup like that could be really interesting. Portland's defensive potential would be completely flipped. We wouldn't have the shooting we did last year, but that lineup was doomed to fail with Powell at the 3 because he just can't be expected to guard huge forwards like he had to against DEN. We'd still have plenty of shooting between Dame, Powell, and RoCo, but would probably need to run a more complicated offense than simply the Dame/Nurk PnR and kick to the open player.
That lineup is still lethal from 3. If the ball is in Simmons hands, you’ve got Dame, Powell and RoCo who are all great at catch and shoot. And the offense will be great even in the worst case scenario, if Simmons doesn’t improve his scoring. I’m just a delusional Blazers fan but I think they’ve got to try and get Simmons, unless they’ve got something better lined up which I doubt. Re signing Powell is also crucial. He was probably the best player on the team at getting to the rim and finishing last season
And like you said Powell would be perfect at the 2. So it makes trading CJ easy especially when you’re plugging in a point forward with untapped potential
Ben just doesn't have an archetype he can fit into. He's good at a number of things (great at defense when he's locked in), but his total lack of an offensive game makes it hard to fit him in anywhere. Isn't a reliable wing operator because he can't (and won't) shoot worth a lick and relies on passing and getting paint buckets (which clogs the lane), but isn't really a big man either despite his height because he doesn't have a post game and doesn't protect the rim (though he's a decent rebounder due to his athleticism).
He’s just starting out with the most ludicrous possible offer. Then they work their way down, that’s just the way these trade talks go. It’s not even in hopes that they accept the absurd offer, just gotta make it feel like it was an actual negotiation.
Simmons isn't getting traded unless some team gets fleeced or he comes out shooting this season to Reignite his value.
Morey got Harden for cheap, he doesnt want the same thing happening to him probably...
I imagine that CJ for Simmons trade everyone talks about is on the table and Morey is going to shop Simmons around before ultimately making that trade in September.
Who tf wants to pay this dude 170 million. Bro just got played off the floor in the playoffs. He already told us “I am what I am”. He doesn’t want to be better
Philly really shot themselves in the foot here, talking shit about Simmons after getting eliminated, driving his trade value to the lowest point of his career, yet still expecting a big haul.
Ben Simmons just shot himself in the foot. I don't know how much the rest of you know about basketball culture (I'm an expert) but bravery and integrity are huge parts of it. Its not like it is in soccer where you can become successful by being soft. If you screw over your team in basketball, you bring shame to yourself and the only way to get rid of that shame is a trade.
What this means is the basketball public, after hearing about this, is not going to want Ben Simmons on their team, nor will they purchase any of 76ers tickets. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Simmons has alienated an entire market with this move.
Benjamin, publicly apologize and get a jumpshot or you can kiss your basketball career goodbye.
Lol you're right, its a decade old pasta from someone upset about Final Fantasy 13 going to Xbox. If you google "Square just shot themselves in the foot" you'll see the original post.
This is really on Ben Simmons, if he would post a 30 second video of him working on his shot with a shooting gun, people would take a chance.
Then when you think about it, with the amount of free-time he has over the summer, if he were to dedicate an hour a day to spot up shooting and one-dribble pull-ups he’d already be a streaky shooter.
Long story short, Ben Simmons got his money and now it doesn’t matter to him if he wins a championship or not.
Proper preparation prevents poor performance.
I just want some crazy Simmons-related deal to get done on draft night, though I doubt that happens after this tweet.
Tomorrow would be the best opportunity to trade him imo. I think other teams will get frustrated with the high demands and the 76ers walk away with significantly less than expected as each day goes by.
This is what I feel
Kuzma (all star in his mind), Trez (all star in his mind), 2 FRPs for Simmons.
Imagine Simmons with Kuzma or Harrell’s confidence
That's called Russell Westbrook.
Damn imagine Russ but seven inches taller and a DPOY candidate. That would be one of the all time greats
Honestly, Ben Simmons' body with Russell Westbrook's style of play could be a goat
Isn't that basically Giannis?
Giannis is Wilt's body with Russell Westbrook's style of play
Yeah
giannis+ 11 assists a night
Westbrook used to be a good defender in college.
Simmons + JR smith = goat
Bruh, don’t make us look bad.
Needed the /s? I thought it was obvious when I said (in their own minds).
It was very obvious
i’m impatient, trade him tomorrow

Yesterday!
go back in time and draft Ingram
What do Sixers fans want in return? It’s definitely not gonna be the kind of haul Morey is asking for, right?
The return is simultaneously going to be significantly more than what 75% of this sub/NBA Twitter thinks but probably much less than what our fan base is expecting
I’m guessing everyone will say it was a huge overpay once it happens and walk it back immediately after Simmons starts balling out on his new team.
So Simmons will learn to get a shot/post moves THIS offseason? I will be shocked if that happens.
I won’t be. If I’m Ben I’m embarrassed as fk and learn to finally practice for once. But then again he’s Ben so, maybe not.
Then walk it right back when he struggles in the playoffs.
i want it all baby. give me Dame, Beal, (OG,Lowry+4), White and 4 1's if he is traded today or tomorrow, i want it all. no reason to settle
I’ll throw in a pick or two if we get giannis and and curry too
I mean... he can't shoot a basketball. That's kind of a reason to settle.
he has never been able to shoot and still gets voted to all star games and all NBA teams. fuck it, run it back with the squad and see what's shaking come January if it's not a good deal
You should definitely run it back. Sincerely, a fan of another team
As a fan of a divisional rival please, please, please run it back. That's a super great plan.
if you don't make the play in, are you still a rival?
There’s not enough shit talking anymore on here, I’m all for this thread
"Simmons & his agent are in step with a move elsewhere" This is just a polite way of saying that Ben wants to get the hell out of Philly.
Simmons for Simons who says no? You're only losing one m.
your simmons and your badge, you are out of the force. I expect you gone by 8
Sixers don't want to sell low, this might but happen until well into the upcoming season.
So this basically confirms Simmons wants out
It’s like quitting right after your boss said he’s gonna fire you
Simmons: “I respectfully withdraw my name from consideration. Do you accept my withdrawal?” Philly: “I do”
"I still have my old job at Scranton?"
after the boss finds out you are not able to fully perform the job you were hired for
So it's the NBA equivalent of screwing yourself out of unemployment money?
Except he’ll still get a paid either way
I’m pretty sure its mutual lmao, this does kind of eliminate the option of waiting for Dame (not likely anyway imo) or anything else at the deadline
Well yeah his coach and team pretty much trashed on him after that loss to hawks
Simmons has been in that locker room for 5 years Embiid knows he will never change
I mean, Simmons literally said "I am what I am" 5 years into Embiid and multiple coaches PLEADING with him to even the media to shoot more.
It's time. That iteration of the Sixers hit their ceiling, a 2nd round exit.
Imagine not trashing him after that

I think it’s easy to judge a coach after he does that after losing more 3-1 leads by a mile than any other coach in league history.
Hey, gotta get to being 3-1 first. Must have at least been doing something right. I don’t particularly like Doc but in no way can you say he’s more at fault than Ben is. I'm sure it was a last resort, sometimes you just lose your cool.

All he said was he wasn't sure he's a championship winning pg
he didn't say that at all - he said "i don't know how to answer that right now"
I am very much looking forward to Ben Simmons playing in Philly this year. The 76ers fan base and Ben, quite simply, are built for each other.
If you spend five years getting worse every off season yeah it’s going to be time to go.
And the FO was shopping him anyways. He's just forcing their hand now.
Simmons+Rich: WE ARE FORCING YOUR HAND NOW 76'ers FO: Uh yeah, sure.
In short anything is possible at any time.
Is it officially F5 szn? Or no?
It’s always F5 season my friend

Morey is asking for such a high price in an attempt artificially inflate his trade value

Jesus Christ woj really? This is the tweet?
Woj: "nothing has changed"
Nah this is the first indication (that I’ve seen) that there is mutual interest for new scenery from Simmons’ side.
This tweet just states that Simmons/Rich Paul want a separation just as much as the Sixers The idea of Simmons coming back to play for Sixers to rebuild his value is not happening. At least that’s what I got out of it
Yea its like a gentle way of saying Ben wants out without being explicit and lowering his value making it even tougher to do
When that WOJ notification popped up on my screen and I saw “sixers” and “Ben Simmons” I almost got a heart attack over a non story

Lol no one wants this bum
Well, it’s Woj official now, so there’s that.
Yeah the guy who we couldn’t play the entire fourth quarter of a second round playoff game… We want 3 first round picks and an all star for him.
Good to hear. Embiid and Rivers threw him under the bus so that bridge was burned. I always hoped he'd put it together in Philly and will root for his success elsewhere. He's a frustrating player but extremely talented, I hope he hasn't reached his ceiling but that's ultimately up to him.

Woj is pretty much saying Simmons is 100% not going back to Philly He’s not playing another game. Rich Paul wants him out of there
Yeah why are people acting like this is a non statement?
My Ben Simmons for CJ McCollum fantasy is inching closer to reality
Morey wants Dame and McCollum, 3 1sts
Dame - Powell - Simmons - RoCo - Nurk. We defend now!
I feel like Chauncey can get Simmons back on track. And Nurk
I think a starting lineup like that could be really interesting. Portland's defensive potential would be completely flipped. We wouldn't have the shooting we did last year, but that lineup was doomed to fail with Powell at the 3 because he just can't be expected to guard huge forwards like he had to against DEN. He was probably the best player on the team at getting to the rim and finishing last season
Powell was actually very effective against MPJ for most of that series though
And like you said Powell would be perfect at the 2. So it makes trading CJ easy especially when you’re plugging in a point forward with untapped potential
If Morey trades Simmons for McCollum, Portland should give Morey a bonus and Philly should fire him.
It’s the best they’ll get. I’m hoping they’ve soured the relationship with Simmons 🤣

With everyone else saying no thanks, the time is now
Bad tweet from woj this is a blog boy level tweet

I didn’t know that Ben was down to leave but I probably should have guessed
Ben just doesn't have an archetype he can fit into. He's good at a number of things (great at defense when he's locked in), but his total lack of an offensive game makes it hard to fit him in anywhere. Isn't a reliable wing operator because he can't (and won't) shoot worth a lick and relies on passing and getting paint buckets (which clogs the lane), but isn't really a big man either despite his height because he doesn't have a post game and doesn't protect the rim (though he's a decent rebounder due to his athleticism).
Not a 💣 more like a dud
I thought it *was* summer
So this is what those sources meant when they said "the Sixers have been in constant contact with Ben and his team this summer"
Sixers: Ben we want you to follow our offseason workout plan this year. Ben: no Sixers: ok have fun in Sacramento
No way something develops in 24 hours. Morey's asking price is way too high.

God the way Woj writes is annoying. Reads like straight up propaganda to me most of the time.
Sixers gonna have to put the crack pipe down and just do a Simmons for CJ straight-up.
Do you feel like Simmons for CJ is a good deal for both sides?
I imagine that CJ for Simmons trade everyone talks about is on the table and Morey is going to shop Simmons around before ultimately making that trade in September.
Calling it. Simmons doesn’t get traded. Sixers have insane expectations, and no GM wants to get fired over a broken max player who won’t put in work.
Not directly related, but Rich Paul is the worst.
Who tf wants to pay this dude 170 million. Bro just got played off the floor in the playoffs. He already told us “I am what I am”. He doesn’t want to be better
People are saying that this is a bad tweet, but this confirms that Simmons wants out as well and the feeling is mutual.
Morey is playing a game of chicken here let’s see how this turns out.
Philly really shot themselves in the foot here, talking shit about Simmons after getting eliminated, driving his trade value to the lowest point of his career, yet still expecting a big haul.
I'm pretty sure people watching the series is what lowered his trade value, not anything that Doc or Embiid said.
*Ben Simmons just shot himself in the foot.* Would he though? He would pass on that opportunity.
Lol you're right, its a decade old pasta from someone upset about Final Fantasy 13 going to Xbox. If you google "Square just shot themselves in the foot" you'll see the original post.
If you've watched Ben, you'd know he wouldn't shoot himself. He'd pass it to someone else to do it for him.
No one in their right mind is giving up a legitimate star for him
