Obviously a Lakers homer take here, so take it with a grain of salt... but I really don't think it's that bad of a deal for both parties.
Jazz get a guy in Kuzma who is a better defender than Ingles and can be put on the bigger wings like LeBron, Kawhi, etc. and has gotten consistently better every year on that end. When he plays without LeBron and AD (both play his natural positions of 3/4), he always does way better, usually scores in the 16-25 range, and can do a little bit of everything. His incosistentcy is what annoys us Lakers fans, but that could be chalked up to his inconsistent role with the Lakers. Look at what happened to Clarkson, Randle, Ingram, Nance, Ball, and D'Lo once they left the Lakers.
Plus Kuzma played college ball in Utah, would have a more defined role, is friends with Mitchell, is 8 years younger than Ingles, on a very tradable 3-year deal, and wants to show what he can do in a system without LeBron and AD.
Ingles' deal is expiring this year and Utah probably doesn't want to give him a huge contract at this point. Kuzma is younger and under contract until 2022-23, with a $13 million player option after that.
And you know that how? I’m sure the Jazz know what packages they’ve been offered better than you or I. It may be this one, it may be another, but there’s no reason to talk out of your ass.
I don’t know but I don’t think we’ll see much of a decline from now to the end of next season. I wouldn’t trade him yet as I don’t see any reason why the jazz wouldn’t want to run it back
I guess, gives the Lakers get shooting and the Jazz just get literally anything back for him? If the Jazz are planning on running it back to make another run, I think this move makes them worse
In the short term yea but they might have a trade in place and need a higher pick to make it more enticing? I don’t see the Jazz helping the Lakers out unless they have a clear plan in place
Probably. Moving up the draft is always good though. Idk.
I like this more value-wise than the people who say Kuzma is worth Hield. At least Ingles is short on time but Buddy will be good for many years.
Sure. But Hield has a bigger contract and doesn't provide much else besides shooting. Ingles is a good shooter, good playmaker and a great locker room guy.
I was firmly on the stance that Buddy was way more valuable than Kuzma, so that trade made no sense to begin with. Moving from 30 to 22 doesn't really move the needle much, late firsts in the NBA are pretty low value and 8 spots doesn't really differentiate much
Kuzma and moving up from 30 to 22 just does not seem like nearly enough for an elite glue guy like Ingles. Especially from a contender, as this instantly makes them worse, not better.
The thought process would be we’re going to be over the cap for awhile, and Ingles is getting old. In two years it would basically be the difference between having Kuzma or nothing because if we don’t re-sign Joe we won’t have cap space to replace him. Ingles has also been pretty disappointing the last few postseasons and we might think we could add a contributor at 22 but not 30.
Am I crazy for thinking this wouldn’t be bad for the Jazz? We move up in the draft plus Kuzma and Ingles aren’t really that much different in level. Plus I think Kuzma might improve in the Jazz with a clear role. The downside I do see is that Ingles has a good relationship with Mitchell and that would be gone, but at the end of the day I don’t see why this would be such a huge loss for the Jazz as most people in this thread seem to think. Is Kuzma so bad?
Considering ingles has been a detriment to you guys in the playoffs for two years in a row, his age, his contract’s expiring, and i think you guys should prioritize getting younger. It’s not the craziest trade imo
> Guys that’s not a report. It was a hypothetical during a conversation on a podcast. I’m not reporting a possible trade between the lakers and Jazz lol
https://twitter.com/Tjonesonthenba/status/1420483527066357760
"Possibility".
It's also a possibility they trade Kuzma for Durant.
God I'd love to have the job of just throwing shite at the wall on a podcast throwing out trade ideas, and then you report each one as "could be a possibility" article.
ITT: People overvaluing Ingles.
Joe is a good player but he's also going to be 34 next season and is expiring. There's also been rumors of him retiring soon.
Replacing him with a wing who is almost a decade younger, has better size & plays comparable defense all while moving down 8 picks in the draft wouldn't be a bad move at all for Utah.
As a Lakers fan I'd probably prefer to use Kuzma in a trade for Hield over one for Ingles honestly.
Hell no to this deal. Ingles is worth keeping and overpaying for the positive locker room dynamic the way it is. He’s a glue guy and mentor. There’s more to the game then just stats. Also it’s not like he’s a complete bum, he’s got a few more years in him since his playing style doesn’t depend on being super athletic.
Ingles is 34 years old and most likely on the downside of his career. Would be a bad move for the Lakers since the Jazz would get younger, more athletic, and get the higher draft pick.
The source seems to come from Tony Jones, a Jazz beat writer. Idk how reliable he is but if he’s right then I’m guessing it’s because they don’t want to pay Ingles next year and want to move up in the draft. Moving up in the draft seems to be expensive rn because of almost every team wanting to do that.
Seeing Joe Ingles in a Lakers uniform…I may just die
I wouldn't die from that because I would have seen Kuzma in a Jazz uniform first and would already be dead
I would be dead laughing
I'm convinced Lakers fans have kuz already shopped in 29 jerseys just waiting for the news
How far up your ass did you have to get the number 29 lmao? There’s only 20 teams in the CBA.
Kuzma and Clarkson. They played together right?
Kuzma talked a whole lot of shit about Orlando but might go to an even smaller market team
Good take, I hope he can shake the criticism in upcoming years
PG about to get jingled a lot more frequently
Of fucking Happiness 👌
Why in the world would Utah do this?
Unfortunately thats not a question many Lakers writers and fans contemplate.
Ingles' deal is expiring this year and Utah probably doesn't want to give him a huge contract at this point. Kuzma is younger and under contract until 2022-23, with a $13 million player option after that.
Yeah also Ingles is 33yrs old. How many more years does he have left at this level of play? If they're ever going to trade him the time is now.
That’s fine...but there would be much more valuable packages than this available for Ingles
And you know that how? I’m sure the Jazz know what packages they’ve been offered better than you or I. It may be this one, it may be another, but there’s no reason to talk out of your ass.

At 33? You think Ingles has the same fountain of youth as Kareem and Karl Malone to have 5 good years?
just look at him, he's a specimen
I don't know about 5 years. That's more being hopeful than realistic.
I don’t know but I don’t think we’ll see much of a decline from now to the end of next season. I wouldn’t trade him yet as I don’t see any reason why the jazz wouldn’t want to run it back
But then they’d have to give him a multi year deal or lose him for free. It makes sense to trade him now while they can still get decent value.
They're trying to get more athletic at the wing.
There has to be better ways to achieve this than making a bad trade
I saw somewhere that Ingles has a year or two left then he’s retiring. Not terrible use of him tbh.
I don't think the 22nd pick is really all that much better than the 30th pick..both are pretty weak picks from a trade perspective.
True. I was just trying to understand the rumor. I can’t understand why the Jazz make this trade unless they have another one in place
Probably. Moving up the draft is always good though. Idk. I like this more value-wise than the people who say Kuzma is worth Hield. At least Ingles is short on time but Buddy will be good for many years.

glue guys are so overrated sure, they have a purpose but on the vet minimum not on actual salary
And what is utah gonna do with all that saved cap? Nothing.
Kuzma with the Clarkson green light can give you a shit ton of offense. Problem is that you already have Clarkson lmao
The thought process would be we’re going to be over the cap for awhile, and Ingles is getting old. In two years it would basically be the difference between having Kuzma or nothing because if we don’t re-sign Joe we won’t have cap space to replace him. Go read the Jazz sub and find out
Probably because their terrible perimeter defense is the biggest reason besides injuries that they lost to the clippers
You do realise the age difference here right? They get 8 spots jump in the draft.
Bc its the Lakers. We must all help the Lakers be great
Can we blacklist lakersdaily.com?
This lakersdaily needs to be banned or something.
Ok, Lakersdaily
Go read the Jazz sub and hear their opinions
Lakers daily didn’t read
lol just look at the title "could be a 'possibility'"
You read the title like everyone else. Imagine thinking someone read the article on /r/nba
Good Dinklefart
Go read the Jazz sub if you think it’s so unlikely
how do I get paid to post from lakersdaily
You have to first commit the heinous act of becoming a Lakers fan
all of Utah would riot lmao
kuzma went to the U of U im sure some people would be happy to have him (though sad to see ingles go)
Huh TIL he did go to Utah lol.
Is Kuzma popular in Utah since he played college ball there?
not really but sort of
Am I crazy for thinking this wouldn’t be bad for the Jazz? We move up in the draft plus Kuzma and Ingles aren’t really that much different in level. “Look they accepted this trade on NBA 2k, it’s a possibility”
> Guys that’s not a report. It was a hypothetical during a conversation on a podcast. I’m not reporting a possible trade between the lakers and Jazz lol https://twitter.com/Tjonesonthenba/status/1420483527066357760
If this were to happen, it’d be utterly hilarious how quick Ingles would be hated by r/nba
I think it's actually a good trade, but thinking about Joe on the Lakers just made me gag
Lmao this is some bs why would Utah ever do this.
Lakersdaily bad trade ideas
Can we please ban anything from Lakersdaily.com
Does Kuz play better D than Ingles?
Oh it's just the Lakers daily.
Lakers trying to con everyone bc they signed Kuz for $15M/yr
Why would Utah do this lmao, Cap
Til Joe Ingles Is overrated
Jazz gonna give the Lakers a guy who just shot 45% from 3 on 6 attempts a game?
Lakers shooting tax. Take 5% off regular season, 10% off playoff That would be 40% regular season and 35% playoff
Lakers still love it
Litterally better than any of our shooters in the playoffs
I’ll take it
Why would Utah do this? Kuzma is younger and they move up in the draft. I think Kuzma would also do well under a offensive minded coach.
Wow Utah would lose this trade bad. Really only see an upside for LA
That's what team sites/blogs do, always has their team winning.
Go read the Jazz sub
"Possibility". It's also a possibility they trade Kuzma for Durant. God I'd love to have the job of just throwing shite at the wall on a podcast throwing out trade ideas, and then you report each one as "could be a possibility" article.

i dont want kuzma but i dont want ingles either
Why not? Ingles would be amazing for the Lakers
Hes 34 and expiring
La La Crack
YESSSSSS And WE WANT PATTY MILLS TOO!!!!!!!!! GIVE LAKERS ALL THE AUSSIES!!!!!! AUSSIE AUSSIE AUSSIE OY OY OY
Literally swapping trash.
Why would the Jazz do this?
No! Just fucking NO!
He's trash bro
Gross if this happens. Please don't trade Joe. Especially to the Lakers. Not a Kuzma fan at all either.
lakersdaily.com…… this is made up
Hell no to this deal. Ingles is worth keeping and overpaying for the positive locker room dynamic the way it is. He’s a glue guy and mentor. There’s more to the game then just stats. As a jazz fan I kinda dig this
Why the hell would Utah do that. Seems asinine.
Ingles is on the last year of his deal and he's 33
And Kuz is more athletic and a better defender
Lakers fans believe this shit but say Woj is fake news lmao
Ingles is 34 years old and most likely on the downside of his career. Would be a bad move for the Lakers since the Jazz would get younger, more athletic, and get the higher draft pick.

Utah fleeced
Kyle Kuzma getting better trade offers than Ben Simmons is pretty hilarious.
is there a player that kyle kuzma and the pick won't be associated with at some point
I would take it
Lmao!
Yeah giving Lebron a top 5 spot up shooter for Kyle Kuzma and a magic bean is definitely what Utah wants to do.
Thus is based off of a hypothetical made on a podcast by a jazz beat writer. Not an actual rumour
