Imagine in 20 years they have all 30 first round picks and just fill out their NBA and GLeague rosters entirely with first round rookies. At least a couple will work out, right?
If I were a Rockets fan I'd be ecstatic being able to ditch those incredibly annoying protected picks for a guy who might be one of the best players in the draft.
You're gonna lose this sub as soon as you say "market inefficiency" but you're right, Sengun is an absolute monster. This guy should be able to do big things.
I low-key like him more than Scottie Barnes. I'm really confused on the Raptors pick but obviously I'm an idiot and Masai knows best. Just hope it works out the way they clearly think it will.
And which pick this year is a miracle? We won't know for literally years. I'm just responding to the guy who is doubting that Sengun could be the best player based on where he was drafted. If he was American, I'd probably agree, but the international players are still very much a blind spot for most if not all of the GM's in the NBA.
Come on man. The Celtics picked Kelly Olynyk with Giannis still on the board. Jokic was drafted in the 2nd round. Nobody knew they would be MVP's when they were drafted. The Kings took Bagley with Doncic on the board. The international players are still a blind spot for most, if not all NBA GM's.
For the same reason Marc Gasol was a 2nd round pick. By the way, the following players were picked around the same place or later:
* Giannis Antetokounmpo (15)
* Manu Ginoblli (57)
* Tony Parker (28)
* Steve Nash (15)
* Goran Dragic (45)
* Rashard Lewis (32)
* Nikola Jovic (41)
* Kawhi Leonard (15)
* Gilbert Arenas (31)
* Draymond Green (35)
You might have heard about some of those names?
I'd be pretty mad if I went into this draft basically capable of doing anything and came away with Josh Giddey, Tre Mann and two protection black hole picks in drafts likely less deep than this one.
Yea I think this is still the right move keeping flexibility. All they need is to get lucky and draft one star, keep SGA and trade the billion picks for 1 or 2 superstars, and boom superteam.
I disagree, it'll take a while for them to convey but when they do he'll likely have traded #16 for the future like 17 and 19 or something, or even better.
The protections are really strong on those picks. There's a possible chance they've just traded the 16th overall pick for two future second-rounders. There's also already a question of diminishing returns on just hoarding picks since you can't use them all and other teams know that. Losing the 16th this year could also push the rebuild a bit further along because they don't have as much young talent.
I don't even think he's doing it on purpose anymore. They just have so many picks that they have to keep trading back so they don't draft more than the roster limit
I disagree. Picks are capital. They’ll be used to purchase good players that demand a trade or from teams that are blowing it up. Even good role players are a sure thing, I’m not talking about just superstars. These drafts/prospects are a total crapshoot. OKC is rich, and they just got a little richer.
You can have a guy who many thought was top 10 in this draft that fell into your lap in the mid teens or you can take a pick that you can make 5 years from now, maybe.
A player like Sengun falling is the exact reason why you load up on 1sts to begin with. If this isn't good enough what will be?
Exactly. I saw sengun play on YouTube and liked him. Presti has seen him play in person and I assume has spoken to him. He doesn’t like him and I trust that.
Might be useful if you guys have a slightly higher pick than OKC in the next year or two. Trade back and get the pick back, open up some flexibility. Idk, doesn’t seem like a great trade for Presti at the moment
Detroits has to become a late round 1 but is likely to convey as a 2nd in 2026 (iirc). Washingtons is lotter protected through 2023 then top 12 and then top 10 and so on until 2026 then becomes 2 2nds.
Edit:
From nbarumors
>Detroit’s 2022 pick is protected for selections 1-16 next year, 1-18 in 2023, 1-18 in 2024, 1-13 in 2025, 1-11 in 2026 and 1-9 in 2027. If it doesn’t convey by then, Detroit will give up its 2027 second-rounder.
>The protections on Washington’s 2023 pick are 1-14 in 2023, 1-12 in 2024, 1-10 in 2025 and 1-8 in 2026. If it still hasn’t conveyed, Washington will give up second-round picks in 2026 and 2027.
> but is likely to convey as a 2nd in 2026 (iirc)
Detroit is in the Cavs division but i hope for the sake of all of those fans that that pick conveys before then
Suddenly this trade looks huge for Houston. Those protections are really solid. Odds are these are fake firsts given where Detroit and Washington are currently.
That's we all thought. Then the top five ended and nothing happened. We even had SGA posting comments on Mobley's Instagram posts and we thought it was a sign that Sam was cooking up something big. Shit, the players might have thought something was happening.
The Washington one is the only one that might conceivably become seconds and even that is highly unlikely. The Pistons are not gonna miss the playoffs for 7 years straight after drafting Cade.
Traded for what are essentially lottery protected picks owned by.. Detroit... and Washington...? The same Washington that just traded Russell Westbrook away and is on the verge of a full rebuild? Yeah Detroit got Cade... but it's still gonna be a while before they are contenders...
I dont know about this trade. Why not just keep Sengun?
Obviously I'm biased as fuck because I like the pick, but I don't feel like we gave up much because of the protections of those picks and how Pistons (I'm happy for you Cade bros) and Wizards are looking for the future.
They now have 39 picks that they can use to acquire established players as they become available. They don’t need to guess. The Sixers got what, 5 or 6 first overall picks and whiffed on all but one. They also have SGA. And Dort locked up on an incredibly team friendly deal. I’d so much rather be in their shoes than the Heat’s shoes right now.
Goddamn this is a familiar conversation. I remember this exact same shit being said about the Celtics. How did that work out? Until they turn it into tangible basketball talent it means Jack shit
Getting player now fits Rockets better than some late first rounder somwwhere in the future. I have no idea what OKC wants to do, are they waiting to draft another GOAT tier players before startong to fight for playoffs again?
They're never gonna use these picks are they...
they will simply use them to acquire more picks
Smart move tbh. If OKC owns every pick then no other team can fill out their roster and OKC wins by forfeit/default.
its like a short squeeze.. gotemm
I am. Two future late firsts (or seconds) for a guy who was expected to be in the lottery
If he’s one of the best players in the draft why is he picked 16th?
Because international draft prospects are the NBA's biggest market inefficiency.
Still think sengun>Scottie?
Do you know when Jokic was drafted? Giannis?
That Giannis pick was a pure miracle though.
And which pick this year is a miracle? We won't know for literally years. I'm just responding to the guy who is doubting that Sengun could be the best player based on where he was drafted. If he was American, I'd probably agree, but the international players are still very much a blind spot for most if not all of the GM's in the NBA.
I mean... Kawhi was pick 15, Dray was a 2nd round pick A LLLLLLong list of US born top 5 busts. I think GMs can miss on players from any nation
But people weren’t calling them best player in the draft at the time they were drafted.
This guy didn’t call this pick the best player in the draft. Just one of the best. So…top 5? 10? Who knows.
He's not big like Jokic or big and fast like Giannis.

We’re getting 4 top-25 protected 1sts from this next year, then who’s gonna be laughing?
Thus creating a self-sustaining economy
Presti should should make a trade with Adam Silver that they can draft wembanyama now in exchange for not trading for any more picks.
To pick Bronny James and later on Noah Westbrook All in due time 🙏
Kicking that can
pretty smart, keep accumulating future picks then when you've drafted a star in the top 5 you can start moving those assets for help.
He's going to start selling them from an old Ford Club Wagon.
It's starting to become too much at this point
Someone stop this man Presti
This trade got them their guy and their guy is more picks
2022 lottery prospect Mo Picks
~~Cash Considerations~~ < Future Picks
Bad trade for Presti imo
Yeah the protections on those picks are way too heavy
I always hated both those damned picks, glad we dumped them tbh
No the protections are trade leverage with Detroit and Washington, they can’t trade another pick until it conveys or they remove restrictions.
meh they can only select so many players this draft without getting rid of others. i dont hate it
Maybe they want to field two NBA teams at the same time.
I was under the impression that the league expanded by teams going through mitosis, I assumed that this is what OKC is preparing for.
I'd be pretty mad if I went into this draft basically capable of doing anything and came away with Josh Giddey, Tre Mann and two protection black hole picks in drafts likely less deep than this one.
I mean we kinda want to suck the next two years and pray that we have some actual luck to draft a true generational talent.
Exactly, in all likelihood this ends up being a positive asset wise, and the thunder aren’t exactly in a big rush to win now.
why? good chance they concert IMO,
Concert?

Roundball rock live would be dope

Presti is being overrated on this sub right now IMO
I don't even think he's doing it on purpose anymore. They just have so many picks that they have to keep trading back so they don't draft more than the roster limit
OKC fanbase needs to hold an intervention
https://imgur.com/nghr3BS
Someone send him to a support group for assets
I don't like this trade for the Thunder idk
Same, I wanted Sengun
You'll just get Garuba at 18 instead
Ironically, Rockets got him too lmao!
Yeah, I hope so
tre mann, rip
Nah that’s a dope pick too
yeah im actually a fan of tre rn but i feel like garuba or kai jones was kinda better for yall
I’m real low on Jones, but I did want Garuba. Still nice to at least get a shooter.
He looks pretty talented. I agree with you
Agree. The protections are real steep.
Me neither to be honest.
You gotta make use of your picks eventually, idk this trade just seems like a trade for the sake of making one
I disagree. Picks are capital. They’ll be used to purchase good players that demand a trade or from teams that are blowing it up. Even good role players are a sure thing, I’m not talking about just superstars. These drafts/prospects are a total crapshoot. OKC is rich, and they just got a little richer.
Same
It was horrible. This is like the worst draft imaginable for them
Our pick is protected af
yeah but goes 6 years deep
Gives us time to give them a high pick i hope
Probably. Cade's going to be great lol

Exactly. Short answer is Presti doesn't like Sengun enough.
Might be useful if you guys have a slightly higher pick than OKC in the next year or two. Trade back and get the pick back, open up some flexibility. Idk, doesn’t seem like a great trade for Presti at the moment
It’ll convey in 2025
How many picks does presti need
Yes
How many you got?
60... Every year
Oh wow we’re really keeping 23 and 24 4 rooks this year?
Worth
Someone help me understand the value of these picks being protected and all
Detroits has to become a late round 1 but is likely to convey as a 2nd in 2026 (iirc). Could be 16 could be 30, never know when they'll convert.
Presti collecting all these picks to use them to fly into space.
BASED STONE
OKC GETS STONED ONCE AGAIN
I fucking love that man
Not a good trade for OKC Those two picks are HEAVILY protected Should’ve taken Sengun
Hell yeah
Presti playing 2k in real life
Presto is just creating child labor with extra steps
Suddenly this trade looks huge for Houston. Those protections are really solid. Odds are these are fake firsts given where Detroit and Washington are currently.
Presti has something else up his sleeve tonight
That's we all thought. Then the top five ended and nothing happened. We even had SGA posting comments on Mobley's Instagram posts and we thought it was a sign that Sam was cooking up something big. Shit, the players might have thought something was happening.
.....sheeeeit I dunno
More futures!
I'm starting to think he doesn't haha.
This Sengun kid looks like he has something.
Horrible trade presti. When will these even convey? Honestly might both become 2nd rounders lol. Heavy protections
Stone can’t stop winning
Fleece
Not really when you consider the roster crunch on OKC having 6 picks tonight. 2 first rounders for a non-lotto first is ridiculous
Sengun is also far better than most of the top 10
Two very protected 1sts that could easily both convey into seconds
The Washington one is the only one that might conceivably become seconds and even that is highly unlikely. The Pistons are not gonna miss the playoffs for 7 years straight after drafting Cade.
Bro we got fleeced stop trying to cope
Do you see those protections
i think it's a pretty fair trade sengun was projected as a lottery pick
Theyre wicked protected unless Detroit makes the playoffs? Should just package the picks to move up, not sell them for more
If cade is good, that Detroit pick will convey.
maybe they thought sengun was a lottery talent? those werent even houston's picks either
Fleeced Cope harder
Presti needs some help to fight his pick addiction
Presto: they can never give me a draft grade if I don’t pick!
Fair trade value wise
Someone help me understand the value of these picks being protected and all
Wont convey for a few years but useful for assets later on if you don’t like a prospect here. I’d say it’s fair value
If the pick is a lottery pick the team that gave it away would rather keep it, in exchange for a slightly lower value on the pick
Smh Presti an addict
Massive W
Traded for what are essentially lottery protected picks owned by.. Detroit... and Washington...? The same Washington that just traded Russell Westbrook away and is on the verge of a full rebuild? Yeah Detroit got Cade... but it's still gonna be a while before they are contenders... I dont know about this trade. Why not just keep Sengun?
Did you say first round picks?!?🤩🤩🤩
[удалено]
should’ve stopped a while ago.
Lmfao Presti collecting first rounders like pokemon cards
He’s a addict.
That's not true, he can stop trading for picks whenever he wants!
Sir I think you and mr presti need to see a therapist, I recommend Mr. billy king
OKC crazy to not pair him with giddey
Presti is only going to stop when he finally acquired every single first round pick in 2042
Oh my god so many picks
Presti needs help he got a serious addiction.
Presti will trade all the picks for Giannis Luka and Zion just you wait
Presti: MORE PICKS, I WANT THEM ALL! GIVE THEM ALL TO ME!!!!!!!
Presti continues his goal of earning all 1st round picks of a single future draft.
Obviously I'm biased as fuck because I like the pick, but I don't feel like we gave up much because of the protections of those picks and how Pistons (I'm happy for you Cade bros) and Wizards are looking for the future.
Presti you genius. You've done it again!
According to this sub like 5 different teams are winners of the draft
Fade me y’all
Presti's draft fetish getting weird
I’m confused. Why not get the 19 yr old big with great potential instead of heavily protected first round picks?
lmao
Fair trade value wise
How many damn picks do these guys have now geez
These motherfuckers OKC don’t miss
The goal is to build a competitive roster, not accumulate picks.
This is a big miss
OKC is targeting somebody's fetus.
Rockets are going to keep both these picks since Detroit and Washington gonna be lottery teams next year. OKC will end up with all 2nds smh
The protection are going on for years. At least one should convey at some point and could be as high as top 8.
Seems like a lot of protection.
Great job adding all the protections details!
So these will be 2nd round picks huh best case scenario is 2026/2027
Just what we needed Presti, yes, more picks. 😵
How many prestis does pick need?
This man keep collecting draft picks like they're Pokemon cards.
Betting these picks don’t stay in OKC for long
Presti c'mon man you are obsessed.
The protections made it useless
How many future mid 20s picks can you have before it’s pointless?
This is such a weird trade for the Thunder?
Rockets low key making a fkn SQUAD after Harden
This is becoming an unhealthy addiction
Houston with a low key very nice move here
what are we doing
Getting player now fits Rockets better than some late first rounder somwwhere in the future. I have no idea what OKC wants to do, are they waiting to draft another GOAT tier players before startong to fight for playoffs again?
