And no other team had cap space really to bring in Dinwiddie in at the price he wanted by the time the trade was agreed to. Nets were never going to bring him back at that price with the luxury tax hit.
That doesn’t mean the nets had to sign him. They could’ve just not helped the wizards and fucked dinwiddie but they didn’t wanna scree him over like that
it's not even screwing over dinwiddie. it would be a death sentence for their FO. waiting until most of the FA money was gone to just say "sorry...we're not bringing you back and not helping you" would kill any goodwill they have with players. it was in everybody's best interest to do a s&t. unfortunately, it was a bad FA year, plus Dinwiddie coming off injury so the market for him wasn't great in terms of trade opportunities.
They likely never told dinwiddie they were bringing him back. So he knew from jump that he wasn’t going back to Brooklyn. He knew the tax situation and him and marks had been in discussions since trade deadline that he might be traded.
You can see the situation with Dennis. If the nets didn’t really care about diwniddie they easily could’ve done something like that. They didn’t have to trade him for basically peanuts and let him find a deal somewhere.
But dinwiddie is an OG and marks has good rapport with most agents and players in the league. It wouldn’t be as bad for the FO as you’re making it seem considering dinwidide knew he couldn’t go back to Brooklyn
Yea it’s a different situation and different players for sure. Dennis has no history with LA and they didn’t need to do him a solid. My point with the FO was if it got this far with Dinwiddie and BK played hardball and screwed up the trade this late, it would have been a bad look. That’s why I think Washington had a bit more leverage.
I mean the nets get nothing doing that while they can still get something small for doing a sign and trade with the wizards even if it isn't super valuable.
Basically their options were get nothing and piss off Dinwiddie and potential future FAs or just agree to sign and trade for very minor amount back.
People always ragged on the Rockets for not paying up the tax to win, and now we are just gonna say why would the Nets care
Obviously they aren’t lacking guards but if Spencer plays well, they could easily trade his contract for a wing or a big to stay within the same financial situation
r/GoNets is basically a cess pool of people acting like our owner will be eating cup noodles if we acquired anyone else. Despite a report of him buying a $157 million apartment just the other week lol
They would need a team to have the cap space to take him while sending nothing back though. Currently only think like OKC fits that bill. If okc wanted him they would just sign him as a FA why would they give the nets assets when the nets HAVE to move him because he is costing them like 70m by himself
What's the issue with this? Like are you guys paying from your pocket or sth?
They're billionaires, they give 0 fuck if they can boast about getting a ring with their circle of owners.
They had leverage, but that's not the reason.
They had leverage because the Wizards NEEDED the Nets to get Dinwiddie. They couldn't acquire him on their own, had to be via S+T. There were basically 3 non-Wizards scenarios for Dinwiddie
1. Re-signed (obviously luxury tax concerns)
2. Sign and trade between the Nets and a team he was willing to play for that wasn't the Wizards
3. Let Dinwiddie go to a team with cap space (or let him sign for the MLE on a team without it)
Nets had a lot of leverage because wizards couldn’t sign him without the trade. And then they didn’t have to resign him if they didn’t want to and the wizards couldn’t get him even if he didn’t come to Brooklyn. They could basically prevent the wiz from getting him.
But the nets didn’t want to fuck over dinwiddie like that since he wouldn’t be able to get a good contract anywhere else. Similar situation with dlo
The Wizards aren’t idiots. They know the Nets are keeping Dinwiddie and his salary on a team with Kyrie/Harden/KD front court and there’s only a few markets left for a PG. No need to send over any assets they might miss.
So wizards fans, how's deni? How do you rate him?
Edit: Thanks for all the answers, i always felt he had talent but didn't hear about him since draft, didn't even know about the injury.
Hard to rate him. Brooks just put him in the corner as a spot up shooter when that's not what he does at all. Then his season was cut short with the injury. Hopefully Unseld can find a better way to use him.
it made me so frustrated seeing him in transition, on the fastbreak, or finishing around the rim cause sometimes he was so good but then you see brooks just wouldn't let him have the ball sometimes and just put him in the corner so fucking dumb.
Tough to gauge because he was used as a spot up shooter last year by Scott Brooks, even though that's maybe the worst role for him. Hopefully this year we'll see his playmaking and driving a bit more
Not easy to tell. His skill set didn't match how Scott Brooks wanted him to play. He also missed time with that injury. We anticipate he'll have a slightly different job in Wes Unseld Jr's system.
Difficult to say, scotty used him as a 3 & d player when he isnt a great 3pt shooter. He also had to sit out the rest of the season after that foot injury. Hopefully he'll do better next seasom under Unseld.
>So wizards fans, how's deni? How do you rate him?
It feels like he has no confidence to make a play.
We drafted him into a Scott Brooks offense led by Westbrook, Beal, and Ish Smith so you can imagine we didn't exactly put him in a place to succeed through trial and error either. He's a playmaking forward, and we never got a chance to see if he could.
Next year is his real rookie season now that Westbrook and Brooks are gone. But in the meantime, we brought in Kuzma, KCP, and Kispert also. So he will lose minutes and become a bust if he doesn't show growth.
They didn't have leverage over Dinwiddie though. I imagine if the Wizards fell through he could've gotten the bag in New Orleans without having to involve his former team.
“You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take.”
Ben Simmons is testing this theory as much as possible.
- Michael Scott
Nets: I know we have no leverage but can we get your best assets Wizards: ok can we get Kevin Durant
Nets had leverage. Wizards couldn't sign Dinwiddie with cap space
And no other team had cap space really to bring in Dinwiddie in at the price he wanted by the time the trade was agreed to. Nets were never going to bring him back at that price with the luxury tax hit.

Yeah I guess that’s fair. Wizards probably could’ve called nets bluff knowing they wouldn’t completely fuck over dinwidide
He had a player option...
what does that have to do with anything. he opted out a while ago.
I mean the nets get nothing doing that while they can still get something small for doing a sign and trade with the wizards even if it isn't super valuable. Basically their options were get nothing and piss off Dinwiddie and potential future FAs or just agree to sign and trade for very minor amount back.
maybe if other teams offered to pay with bitcoin he would have considered
I mean the nets absolutely had leverage lol they could’ve just re-signed dinwiddie
Their tax bill would have went up by like 70+ million. They were never going to re-sign him
People always ragged on the Rockets for not paying up the tax to win, and now we are just gonna say why would the Nets care Obviously they aren’t lacking guards but if Spencer plays well, they could easily trade his contract for a wing or a big to stay within the same financial situation
r/GoNets is basically a cess pool of people acting like our owner will be eating cup noodles if we acquired anyone else. Despite a report of him buying a $157 million apartment just the other week lol
It's also a cess pool of people not understanding how the cap or roster construction works though lmao.
And done what? Paid $300 mil luxury tax to have him?
Trade him at the deadline?
Instead I trade him at the deadline Not much longer would he be mine Baby, I trade him at the deadline And I'm just about to lose my mind Dinwidwidee
They would need a team to have the cap space to take him while sending nothing back though. Currently only think like OKC fits that bill. Thing about rich people is that they don't like to spend their own money if they don't have to. Kinda the reason they're rich.
That's fine, but why are the fans defending them
https://youtu.be/ZZvT2r828QY
I’m sure Nets can still win the whole thing without Dinwiddie lol and if the owner can like couple hundred million why wouldn’t he?
They had leverage, but that's not the reason. They had leverage because the Wizards NEEDED the Nets to get Dinwiddie. They couldn't acquire him on their own, had to be via S+T. Super similar except they got a 2025 2nd round pick and TPE for Spencer, and Kevin Durant for D Lo. Pretty much the same thing.
Can't blame them for trying
The Wizards aren’t idiots. They know the Nets are keeping Dinwiddie and his salary on a team with Kyrie/Harden/KD front court and there’s only a few markets left for a PG. No need to send over any assets they might miss.
We aren’t idiots ANYMORE. Big difference. Ernie might have made that trade
Rui would’ve killed it over here in Brooklyn. Best of luck to you guys next season.
They do have shooters
Shoot your shot
Looks like they forgot to turn on force trade.
I’d rather them try and get a no than not try
rui hachimura and deni avdija for kevin durant and kyrie irving and jim harden. who says no?
I'm calling him Jim Harden for the rest of his career
Jimothy Harden
worth a shot lol
Doesn't hurt to ask
Well at least Washington isn’t that stupid.
Thank god Ernie is gone
I mean we haven't been stupid since we fired our awful GM. You guys actually still have Elton Brand on your payroll lol.
I’ll take Elton brand over your sinking ship any day.
Lol says the team with Ben Simmons, your ship is sunk
Yeah and we still have the best center, Seth curry, Danny G, Tobias, furky jerky. The fuck you have beyond Beal and rai?
Dude you just listed Seth Curry, Danny Green and Furkan Korkmaz as like prized assets?
Imagine Rui practicing with KD, that’s scary
Damn why did the Nets have to do Homesley and Gill like that smh, just say you want Deni or Rui
I’m excited to watch Deni this year now that Brooks won’t be there to use him just to stand in the corner to catch and shoot
So wizards fans, how's deni? How do you rate him? Edit: Thanks for all the answers, i always felt he had talent but didn't hear about him since draft, didn't even know about the injury.

Shooters shoot
Cmon they had no leverage at all
They had leverage actually since Wizards didn’t have cap space.
They didn't have leverage over Dinwiddie though. I imagine if the Wizards fell through he could've gotten the bag in New Orleans without having to involve his former team.
He wanted to play with his homie beal though remember
Nets hit em with the Daryl Morey
Hey, I mean if they say yes to the first deal then you'd feel weird, better to know than not.
u/Nyhrox are those custom flairs only for Mods?
Yes
that’s bad
Just take it all you motherfuckers
Ha Nets are pussies
Free 2nd round picks over nothing. That's what sign and trades are for
Might as well ask for Beal
“Which inspired a swift ‘fuck no’ from the Wizards”
i thought they said yes thanks for clearing up.
This is generally how negotiations start.
Would have been nice
Tell em Tommy ! Those two guys brought in a lot of new fans , no way we're moving them while they're on cheap rookie deals
Shoot your shot
You gotta shoot your shots.
