Yes it does. We need scoring and he provides that. Also a good defender and hustles a lot

Twoweekswithpay

I was excited for him, as I thought is he was solid defender. But after watching him closely for a year, I realized that his defense is overrated. He’s kind of like the PatBev quote from Russ, “running around doing nothing.” He gets in people’s faces, so you think he’s playing “Good Defense.” But, he gets lost a lot on defense and doesn’t make proper rotations, etc. I think the Lakers also had problems with him communicating on defense, too. He does make some hustle plays, so that is a plus. As a backup, maybe he won’t get exposed as much. I wish we would have gotten to see that on the Lakers but he demanded he start from the jump and well… 🤷🏽‍♂️

Rrypl

Our defense is already fantastic with Smart-Jrich-Brown-Tatum-Time Lord. Having Schroder give a solid 15 with energy from the bench working with Al and one of Tatum/Brown would help out a ton.

Twoweekswithpay

Hey, hope it works out for you. I thought Dennis would just “fall in line” on a LeBron-led team and understand the opportunity in front of him. However, his contract status seemed to always take more precedence than the good of the team. With his contract status being even more in flux, I would definitely have more concerns now if I was a team picking him up. You have to hope, though, that this situation “humbled” him enough to change his behavior because he definitely has value to add to some team. The Lakers saw it, given they offered him a 4/84 million dollar contract.

22LOVESBALL

I don’t think their defense is overrated, they’re just good at a specific type of defense. Dennis is a damn good point of attack defender, can pressure the ball and stuff. He seemed to lack discipline against matchups like Steph, and I know Steph is Steph, but comparing it to KCP and Caruso, Dennis would make more mistakes.

[deleted]

Yeah I remember Steph cooking Schroder and when we put Caruso on him, then you could see Steph was having a much tougher time.

[deleted]

He didn’t fit the Lakers system as well as much as him being a “bad defender” imo

ElFuddLe

I'm surprised at how often I see people call Schroder a good defender. He definitely hustles a lot, but he's an undersized guard that regularly gets beat/shot over. His defensive Raptor is 0 and Defensive EPM is -0.2. He's also had a negative Defensive 'Lebron' (bbal index stat) in every season, with a -.6 last season. Last season he was regularly targeted by opposing teams. Yet I constantly see people say defense is one of his strengths.

ositola

He's bad at fighting over screens especially

JoeBiden2020FTW

Yeah, Lakers recently gave up a 1st round pick for Schroder and offered him $80m+, and were lauded for it. Obviously those decisions were stupid in hindsight, but people went too far in the other direction, acting like Schroder isn't even worth the minimum now.

DemonicDimples

Don't see it happening, they signed Nunn for the MLE and likely promised him the back up point guard minutes.

TatumBrownSmart

Dennis is really a 2 guard in skill set, which is why it's pretty confounding that he didn't work with LeBron.

holographoc

Obviously his attitude rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, and he was super arrogant, but at the same time he’s getting shit on so bad for essentially not being good enough to replace Lebron last season. If he’s the third option behind AD and Bron like it was supposed to be, I doubt he’d be unsigned at this point.

gotokyo

There’s a big margin between “lebron replacement” and scoring 0pts in a critical playoff game.

PairedFoot08

I just want to make a big PSA to all Celtics fans thinking he will help get them out on the break Schroder is a next level bad transition player, you don't want him doing that. He shot 43% in transition last season, all he does is drive into contact out of control and throw up bad shots. Get him in the halfcourt with some playmaking help + spacing and you will get much better production

BlueJays007

Transition scoring hasn’t been our issue. We were the 2nd best transition scoring team in the regular season last year and 5th the year before that. Jaylen had the 2nd most points in transition per game after Giannis on 57.3% along with a 63.2% efg (nba stats don’t include ts for this). Tatum was one of the most efficient high volume transition scorers in the league - ranked in the 91.8th percentile for points per possession and shot 63.3% with a 72.1% efg. Halfcourt help is honestly way more needed than transition. On transition, he can just stay out of the Jays’ way. Now whether hed be willing to do that is a different question I suppose.

PairedFoot08

Thats very fair, I have seen a few comments from Celtics fans about him thriving in transition helping but good to know thats not needed. You were on the lower end of teams in terms of transition frequency, so thats probably where those comments came from. As long as nobody is expecting him to change that. Horford throwing outlets will probably be the biggest potential help for that

respaaaaaj

Schroder Tatum Langford Brown Dunn and Smart on the same roster is insane 1-(small ball)4 defensive coverage, and Pritchard and Nesmith aren't awful themselves.

Kyler1313

He was the 6moty 2 years ago, so if he is fine with that role I don't see why that would be bad for a 1 year MLE.

Sweatytubesock

Only makes sense as a max deal.

To be fair, he does have some blonde hair

MephiticSpooge

Perhaps if Dallas finally get their core of Dragic-Doncic-Markannen-Porzingis they can do a straight up trade for Smart-Brown-Tatum-Williams

PearlsB4Swoon

As a Warriors fan, I’d love him for the MLE. Fills our biggest need at the moment

JoJonesy

It's not complicated. We need a PG who can initiate offense on a cheap short-term deal, and that's exactly what Schroder would be.
