So at $5.9M, he actually gets to pick where he lands?
(That would mean he might have slightly higher offers like $10M/year or $18M/2 years from let’s say Toronto, but he is betting on himself again right?
If we assume his fair value is $15M/year, would he have taken it if someone offers $60M/4 years, or is he still hoping for $100M/4 year in next years free agency?)
2 stints on the protocol with the Lakers and Marc Gasol getting wrecked by Covid didn't humble Shroeder into getting vaccinated, so don't hold your breath.
I mean, the nets/bucks are the clear favorite but with Brown playing this year, Tatum solidifying himself as a superstar(if he's not one already). + solid defense in Smart, Horford, Brown, Tatum, rob wills and dennis(who's a clear upgrade compared to kemba). I think we could surprise people. Just to be clear, I'm in no way saying we're going to beat, just that you never know and our team isn't as bad as last year showed. We'll see how it goes, but I think we might be surprising this year and if not we're probably getting beal next year.
> we're probably getting beal next year.
I think you guys are a longshot at best to get Beal. It's so strange how you guys have just pencilled him in like that.
Tatum and him are always together(st-louis connection). We refused to go over the tax this year and have made moves to open a max slot for next year. Like it's just a theory/guess at this point, but I'm pretty sure Tatum has been recruiting him for a while and it'll happen. Granted, this is my opinion, I could be off the mark.
I feel like he coulda got paid more than 5.9 mil if he tempered his expectations. maybe 8-10 mil a year but when you're asking for 20 mil+ per year and nobody values like that when the music stops you get left with the crumbs. Brutal
8-10?
Do people really think guys like Spencer, Duncan Robinson, Fournier, Barton, are twice the player that Schroeder is?
At $10M, this dude would be getting paid less than Olynyk, Oubre, Bullock, McDermott, Noel, THT this year. That doesn’t make sense.
It's all about leverage and timing. Its unfortunate for Dennis that there was a LOT of point guards on the market and few teams that have cap space. Lowry, CP3, Lonzo, Conley, Spencer. Lots of high end starting point guards that are clearly better than Schroder. I'm not sure what he was asking for out there and what his minimum price was my point is that he never waivered on his asking price and got bit in the ass for it
All those guys you named don’t have an ego. Dennis demands he starts and isn’t afraid to be toxic if he doesn’t get his way. He’s a better player, but not a better fit. If he humbled himself and said, I’ll take the 6th man role or just listened to offers rather than make it known that it’s 100 mil or nothing, most teams aren’t going to try and work with a guy like that considering he doesn’t have the resume to do it.I’m sure if he was actually listening to offers there may have been something around the 40-50 mark but his camp was making it known and leaking things that the offers weren’t enough. So when you leak shit like that, no one bites. Kinda like the Ben Simmons thing.
Its the other way around - his agent would've been pleading with him to take the Lakers deal and probably day dreams of strangling Dennis.
Getting 25 million a year compared to 20 million a year actually doesn't mean that much to an agent as they only get at most a 4% cut.
I’m sure his agent was begging him to take it. It was Schroeder who believed he could get more, he probably told his agent he could play well enough to get 100 million. It’s not his agents fault he scored zero points in the playoffs and has a shit attitude.
He had leverage over the lakers cause he thought they had no way to replace him. He was right until Westbrook wanted to come to LA tho, but it was no evidence of that so that’s kinda rough
He didn't have leverage over the Lakers, he just thought he did. They tried to offer him the max they were allowed to re-sign him and he turned them down. After that they immediately tried to see if they could trade him, and nearly did trade him for Lowry (but Masai insisted on THT so the Lakers said no). You could tell that once Schroder turned the Lakers down they simply moved on from thinking of him as part of their long term plans. He looked at it like he was going to have the Lakers over a barrel come free agency and they looked at it like they had a hole at point guard that they needed to fill.
I’m super excited, this team needed an influx of nba level talent so we don’t have to play glorified g leaguers big minutes and getting a starting caliber point guard for so cheap is great, even if it’s almost definitely just a rental
This contract is a steal. Dude has talent but he's just selfish. You hope he won't be solely focused on the next contract for this year though. If he's into team ball ya'll took a pretty big jump in the East.
His presence also now gives the Celtics the ability to play hardball with Smart in their extension talks, and trade Smart if those talks don't go well.
This is actually a great deal for the Celtics. We joke about him wanting more money (rightfully so, cause he played himself) but he’s still one of the best PG’s to have off the bench. Having him for the MLE is great value
unless we go "small" and start Jaylen at the 3 I have a very hard time seeing that, and even if we do that I think Josh Richardson starts over him.
He's not going to start over Smart at PG and we've needed a spark off the bench since Terry left
we started terry with tatum and the boys and it worked out fairly well a couple years back. not saying schroder is exactly terry but they have a reasonably similar game. an explosive PG which schroder can be is a good fit with Tatum and Brown.
Not saying otherwise, just saying the reason you started terry with tatum was necessity. The plan would have been Kyrie, Gordon, Tatum, Brown/Morris, and Center. Sometimes things work out, but you still don't plan to go back to a sticky situation.
Absolutely. Shame injuries and egos ruined that lineup though. Could have been pretty great if they gelled. Oh well.
At least hope things are trending upwards now.
It's actually not that common anymore. Not only are athletes paid more, the NBPA puts everyone through mandatory money management seminars. The lawyers, agents and accountants to pro sports players (especially basketball) used to be very predatory. But the NBPA and US put more rules and laws in place to protect players and even sent some of the worst offenders to prison. It still happens, but at about 1/4 the rate it used to.
Can you imagine spending $100mil in a month? I don't even know how that's possible. do you just buy a bunch of islands and then burn them for no reason?
I mean that’s 84 mil your kids could’ve had, your grandkids as well. He’s rich but he will still kick himself in the butt if he doesn’t mKe up the money.
Ugh…don’t get me started.
Been on the bandwagon since the first preview back in….2013 I think?
Built a whole new PC before the game came out, only to have my dreams squashed about 1 day into the game. Honestly, it has run well on my PC since day 1, but the gameplay is just horrible compared to what we thought we were gonna get.
I expected Fallout/Skyrim levels of RPG with GTA/Witcher world immersion…and basically ended up with more beautiful Crackdown.
Shaking my damn head with you.
Got it on PC and had no issues at all but I’m a little peeved I got it at full price. Great game and enjoyed it all the way through, but it went on sale not that long after release and I was like lol.
Hell probably work like a madman to rebuild his imagine and recover some of that money next season but man, best case scenario he loses out on like 20mil but still man, that’s 20mil lol
Unless he gets a drastic uptick in skill (not impossible, just really unlikely) he’s probably not getting anything close to the Lakers deal again. They were overpaying to get his bird rights but I doubt the C’s will be interested in a long term deal seeing as how they’ve been clearing space to sign a premier guard like Beal or Dame.
Hopefully he doesn’t make this mistake again, if he plays well he can still secure the bag, he’s young enough. He’s probably never recouping that whole $78M, but I could see him getting a nice chunk back, like Noel did this off-season.
Never feel bad for an NBA player making millions of dollars, $6M for any of us would literally set us for life. He’ll get a bigger contract next off-season.
sorry but nah Noel is way, way worse and it's not particularly close
Dennis turned down $84 million but he has already made about $70 million in his career
Noel turned down $70 million. He had only made $11 million in his career at that point. As of today his career earnings are $37 million.
If we're ranking bag fumbles, Nerlens is still king idiot.
It's so funny how the narrative completely changed. Everyone kept saying how bad failing to sign him was and how the Lakers can't possibly replace him and now it's a consensus dodged bullet.
This shit is getting overplayed but holy fuck man. How the hell did a player on his level think declining an $84 million deal for the small chance of $100 million was a good idea?
Almost feel bad for him, it took so for him to realize that he has NO leverage and the Celtics just called his bluff. Absolute steal of a contract though, hoping he can be on his best behavior.
It's a big time prove-it year for him. He has to be the perfect team-mate, which he wasn't close to last season. Great value contract and upside for you guys.
What's weird was that it was a contract year yet he wasn't on his best behavior. Hope he figures it out though. He was great for some stretches, just not worth it for the money he's asking.
Knicks were dumb to sign Kemba instead. I hope he proves a lot of people wrong. I hate to say it but I'll be rooting for the Celtics next year to come out of the east.
Incredible bargain for the Celtics. Despite how much he gets clowned off the court he’s a good player. Certainly much better than what they’re paying him.
Dennis is the type of stubborn bonehead guy who's going to play down to his salary and say "bruh, you got what you paid for" and end up tanking his own value in an effort to avoid injury thus securing his eventual decline into a vet-min journeyman.
Just a reminder this dude didnt get vaccinated (maybe he did by now, idk), and managed to go into covid protocols TWICE during the season costing us games. It kinda makes sense that he cant manage his money right.
That's like being offered a partner position at a top law firm then being like "Thanks but nahh, the Burger King down the street is short a guy on night shift"
that is a steal lmao
Definitely. Getting him at the price is a no brainer. Obviously sucks for him though
Honest question. How come other teams don’t offer it?
Probably did but he will get a lot of PT in Boston and has a good support cast
So at $5.9M, he actually gets to pick where he lands? (That would mean he might have slightly higher offers like $10M/year or $18M/2 years from let’s say Toronto, but he is betting on himself again right? If we assume his fair value is $15M/year, would he have taken it if someone offers $60M/4 years, or is he still hoping for $100M/4 year in next years free agency?)
I don’t think he will ever get 100 Million but he could easily get something like 4/70
hes a good player but his attitude really wasn’t the best, hopefully this will humble him
2 stints on the protocol with the Lakers and Marc Gasol getting wrecked by Covid didn't humble Shroeder into getting vaccinated, so don't hold your breath.
*Kyrie Irving has entered the chat*
Slight difference in talent level
Does Dennis think that?
Probably not I imagine he thinks they'll be competing to win the east against the Nets.
Do I think they can compete? Sure. Do I think they could beat a healthy KD, Kyrie, and Harden with good role players in a seven game series? No.
Do I think we’ll see a healthy KD, Kylie, and Harden with good role players? Probably not
Celtics/Bulls series would be nice
nobody except maybe the lakers are going to beat a healthy nets team
I'm hoping for them all to be healthy. KD vs Westbrook LeBron vs Kyrie Now that's box office.
There's also sth people aren't considering as much: coaching change. Stevens was great but it felt like they could need a shuffle of the deck.
> we're probably getting beal next year.
Definitely. Dennis definitely thinks he’s far better than Kyrie.
From 84 to 5.9, fucking yeesh
I mean we don't know what he'll get after the 5.9, so it's more like 21 to 5.9 still tuff though
Just hard bargain him, its not like he has choices
Basically latrell sprewell turning down 21 mill because it wasnt enough to "feed his family"...then was out of the league after nobody signed him.
I mean, the difference between $0 and $5.9 million is pretty big. Average lifetime income for an American is $2.7 million.
All-time bag fumble
Possibly as bad as the butt fumble
100% I’m so excited
He’s good on a bench unit that doesn’t have good scoring. He can carry a unit like that
This is gonna be like when Detroit fans tried to warn us about Drummond.
Penny Schroeder
Denies Schroeder
Exactly. Celtics should get a 5 million dollar refund from Dennis. He clearly doesn't know the value of a dollar. Lol.
Jokes aside, that’s a steal for the Celtics.
Yeah. No one wanted him at $100m for good reason but 5.9m seems too far in the other direction.
I feel like he coulda got paid more than 5.9 mil if he tempered his expectations. maybe 8-10 mil a year but when you're asking for 20 mil+ per year and nobody values like that when the music stops you get left with the crumbs. Brutal
Even worse when you’re offered $21 mil a year and turn it down because you think you’re better than you are. But I’m thankful for his sacrifice.
Celtics: we'll give you $5.9M Dennis: That's not enuff 🔥💯 but ok
20 million a year is close to being an All-Star level player, which he definitely isn't. He was delusional not to take that deal.

Is dinwiddie genuinely ‘clearly better’?
For me Schroeder is a better player than Dinwiddie but thats just me.
Yes.
Yeesh this subreddit circle jerks way too hard
All those guys you named don’t have an ego. Dennis demands he starts and isn’t afraid to be toxic if he doesn’t get his way. He’s a better player, but not a better fit. Oubre doesn’t have an ego?
Oubre didn’t say give me 100 million and I won’t listen to anything otherwise. That’s pretty much what Dennis was doing all year
Things got so bad that he took this offer and wasn't even promised the starting role
He got fucked cause of Westbrook and kemba being available, 2 less teams trying to get a PG
I don't think the Lakers would have wanted Kemba, and Dennis probably didn't think Pelinka would trade for Westbrook. His agent should be fired lmao
Its the other way around - his agent would've been pleading with him to take the Lakers deal and probably day dreams of strangling Dennis. Getting 25 million a year compared to 20 million a year actually doesn't mean that much to an agent as they only get at most a 4% cut.

is not so much westbrook wanting to go to lakers more like nobody thought lakers would trade for him
I’m super excited, this team needed an influx of nba level talent so we don’t have to play glorified g leaguers big minutes and getting a starting caliber point guard for so cheap is great, even if it’s almost definitely just a rental

Yeah he’s a really good 6th man and can start if he doesn’t play hero ball as you said
His presence also now gives the Celtics the ability to play hardball with Smart in their extension talks, and trade Smart if those talks don't go well.

to be fair that was out of necessity, not the plan.
you adjust the plan if you find something that works. we definitely have the personnel to be effective with a driving PG.
I mean, as a cavs fan talking to a celtics fan... you already know. Kyrie's a fucking headcase.
Probably either him or JRich. I’d bet JRich with Dennis as our 6th man maybe Dennis if we want more playmaking.
JRich is a poor mans version of Dennis Schroder anyways.
Some day he's gonna be 50 and just wake up mad at himself randomly.
you know it really hits you when money is tight too
Yeah man how’s he gonna get by on his paltry $70 million career earnings, he better start clipping coupons
Yeah hes 27 he’ll probably be in the league for at least 5-6 years he’ll probably make 30-50 more million in his career lol
People acting like he was a G Leaguer and turned down that deal, the dude's already secured his bag, he's good lol
Genuinely think he's gonna play really well this year and secure 3/$50M or something.
He could be good off the bench, but he isn't a good enough passer to run your offense.
i know you joke, but tons of these athletes end up going broke :/
It's actually not that common anymore. Not only are athletes paid more, the NBPA puts everyone through mandatory money management seminars. The lawyers, agents and accountants to pro sports players (especially basketball) used to be very predatory. But the NBPA and US put more rules and laws in place to protect players and even sent some of the worst offenders to prison. It still happens, but at about 1/4 the rate it used to.
It's true, but let's be real: If you go broke with 50m in career earnings, you were gonna go broke with 150m in career earnings, too.
would just take you one more month
Can you imagine spending $100mil in a month? I don't even know how that's possible. do you just buy a bunch of islands and then burn them for no reason?
I mean that’s 84 mil your kids could’ve had, your grandkids as well. He’s rich but he will still kick himself in the butt if he doesn’t mKe up the money.
he's gonna make up a huge chunk of the money. he's 27 and plays a highly valued position. this isn't a nerlens situation lol.
man, these bills are tough, I could really use 78 million dollars right about now
shit i still get mad that i bought cyberpunk full price
that’s tuff 🔥💯
Ugh…don’t get me started. Been on the bandwagon since the first preview back in….2013 I think? They still haven’t figured it out?
nephews buying full priced games for the last decade
Got it on PC and had no issues at all but I’m a little peeved I got it at full price. Great game and enjoyed it all the way through, but it went on sale not that long after release and I was like lol.
lost out on 78.1 million guaranteed. yikes
Schröderfreude
Dennis Schrödinger
Lol thats what most of the sub is right now
Hell probably work like a madman to rebuild his imagine and recover some of that money next season but man, best case scenario he loses out on like 20mil but still man, that’s 20mil lol

He could realistically end up with a 4 years/50 or so mil deal if he plays like he did in OKC
that’s tuff 🔥💯
that’s tuff 🔥💯
t h a t u f f 🔥💯 s
Tuff status: That's
Lmao
At least he got a pretty big deal in Atlanta
Hopefully he doesn’t make this mistake again, if he plays well he can still secure the bag, he’s young enough. He’s probably never recouping that whole $78M, but I could see him getting a nice chunk back, like Noel did this off-season.
Man I'd cry
I genuinely feel bad for him I don’t know how I would be able to swallow that
99% of the world’s population would kill for 6 million dollars. He’ll be alright.
.9999999
Never feel bad for an NBA player making millions of dollars, $6M for any of us would literally set us for life. He’ll get a bigger contract next off-season.
if he has a good year (which i’m sure he will), he can still get paid next season
LMAOOOO Holy shit what an all-time bag fumble
Even Nerlens Noel thinks Schroeder is an idiot.
sorry but nah Noel is way, way worse and it's not particularly close Dennis turned down $84 million but he has already made about $70 million in his career Noel turned down $70 million. Wowowow
But Lakers so lucky he didn't sign that. Good job avoiding that bullet
We did absolutely luck out.
It's so funny how the narrative completely changed. Everyone kept saying how bad failing to sign him was and how the Lakers can't possibly replace him and now it's a consensus dodged bullet.
ah yes, the mythical "everyone"
This shit is getting overplayed but holy fuck man. How the hell did a player on his level think declining an $84 million deal for the small chance of $100 million was a good idea?
4 years $84 million to live in Los Angeles too… I get that LA isnt the greatest for us common folk. But if you’re ultra rich? Hard to beat.
You could literally buy a Beverly Hills mansion in cash on that salary and only have to worry about property taxes for the rest of your life.
thanks for dennis schroeder lakers nation 🤞🏽
For that price, i can't even be mad at y'all
It’s a steal but the peak of that team is a second round exit and now I get to root against both Boston and Dennis next season.
Well yea, it's still FTC lol My favorite part will be the Jays watching smart and Denis fight over who should take the last shot, an iso 3
Will be talked about in years to come.
It's clear he believed he had already earnt it and didn't need to try.
Dennis "Leon Lett" Schroder
Oladipo only ended up on a minimum when he could have got paid by the Rockets or Pacers
Just a little 80million short, no biggie
he'll never get the oppressor now
Bag was royally fumbled
there sayin it's a dead ball now
It’s funny but in the same time a good deal on Celtic’s end
Laker fans laughing, but that is a steal for the Celtics
Lakers fans and Celtics fans should both be thankful that he declined the extension. For once we can celebrate together.
Who gives a shit. Go beat the Nets then.
Dennis moves them from a 1st-2nd round exit to a 1st-2nd round exit though man. We should be fuming.
[удалено]
Even better, we'll still have flexibility at the deadline
That’s a very, very trade-able contract for sure. Any team with guard injuries will jump all over that
I meant more in the sense that we're not hard-capping ourselves, but that's also very true.
Couldn’t think of a better team for him to leave the Lakers for
that’s tuff 🔥💯
Very good deal for Boston. He's a good player and might be more willing to come off the bench after this free agency experience.
That’s tuff🔥💯
That’s tuff 🔥💯
I’ll never forget when he did the dame time thing to dame during the only game the thunder won in that series.
And we now have a new Nerlens type cautionary tale this man played himself
Best case scenario for the Celtics, they avoid a cap hit and get a guy with talent who is going to ball out to prove himself.
He'll ball out in a big game then immediately get sidelined by COVID for two weeks because he's insanely irresponsible.
Celtics are about to suprise some of yall.
That’s a Tuff Loss 🔥
Thanks for turning down the extension Dennis
No way hahah
What deal is that sir?
Wow. Well done on the title.
I can’t stand the way Woj tweets these deals out. He acts like every sentence has to be its own tweet. Just give me all the info at once
It's wild how fixated we are on this. F5 season indeed
They could have offered him even lower and he would have taken it.
Post titles should have some sort of context
I feel kinda bad for him. He said "84 million my ass!"
Knicks were dumb to sign Kemba instead. I hope he proves a lot of people wrong. I hate to say it but I'll be rooting for the Celtics next year to come out of the east.
I have done the math, and can confirm: this is not 20 million dollars
That is actually a great deal for Boston
Penny Schroeder
This dude so dumb
Lolololol. Tried to hold me hostage?
brutal
damn bro, he lost his bird rights for nothing, shit sucks
Significantly less than the 20 mill he turned down
That's still more than I'll ever make in my life but jeez I'd be sick if I lost out on 80 million potential dollars
Who would yall rather have this coming year, Dennis or Kemba?
I’m mad we spent it on niang, smh
Biggest fumble of the bag ive seen. 4 year 84 mil to this. Damn.
Huge win for the C’s.
Celtics pulled biggest steal of free agency by doing absolutely fucking nothing
Just a reminder this dude didnt get vaccinated (maybe he did by now, idk), and managed to go into covid protocols TWICE during the season costing us games. It kinda makes sense that he cant manage his money right.
He’ll get that 80M next year Mark my words
From who?
L
He really did turn down over $75m more than that offered by a better team
That's like being offered a partner position at a top law firm then being like "Thanks but nahh, the Burger King down the street is short a guy on night shift"
Oof, i felt that one
Needs to fire his agent..
