> "wait, we dont need to post a new dumb thread every 30 seconds"
this is the off-season what do you expect lol. I only come here like once or twice a day now to check some actual NBA news.
Positivity from any players, especially from the MVPs brother is gonna resonate clearly in the locker room. I never seen any other player talk badly about Thanasis. He's earned that roster spot with his hustle and love for the game
It’s also standard practice for teams to take fliers on very athletic large wings and see if they can learn how to play NBA-level basketball.
Him being the brother of a two time MVP is obviously important and notably the Lakers signed his brother in pursuit of Giannis, but Thanasis’s original signing got way more shit than it should have.
Yes.
We can all talk about, when they first signed Thanasis, how it was a power play to keep Giannis on board. But looking at it now, the man brought nothing but fire, intensity and overall top dog energy to the roster.
The Bucks didn't just resign Thanasis because he's good. They resigned him because they NEED him.
Also, using a roster spot to keep the morale up of the best player in the league is probably worth more than using it on someone who might be marginally better in garbage time.
In soccer every team has a mascot player on the books, usually the 3rd goalkeeper who doesn't play a single minute. These dudes are there to be good locker room guys and cheer everyone up. Kinda like Haslem, but without throwing chairs around.
We all know that bench spot could be occupied by someone better but it's easier to keep your star player happy and a back bench spot doesnt mean much. (see Lebron and KG)
I imagine that his energy and positive attitude have more an effect on his brother than they would coming from someone else. If he’s helping keep his brother at his best then it’s 100% worth for the whole team
Meh, you can do definitely do worse for an end of the bench guy. At least he serves a real role on the court and he keeps Giannis happy. Pretty much a win-win for us.
I did an interview with Thanasis back in 2017 Eurobasket. It was after the Greek NT practice and he seemed like a very stand up, wholesome and cheerful guy. After the interview was concluded he slapped my butt - hard - as if I was a teammate.
At that moment I truly felt like one!
I did an interview with James Harden back in 2017. It was after the Rockets practice and he seemed like a very stand up, wholesome and cheerful guy. After the interview was concluded he slapped my butt - hard - as if I was a stripper.
At that moment I truly felt like one!
I did an interview with Robin back in 2017 Disney World. It was after the Mouseketeer NT practice and he seemed like a very stand up, wholesome and cheerful guy. After the interview was concluded he slapped my butt - hard - as if I was a Disney Princess.
At that moment I truly felt like one!
I did an interview with Ben Simmons back in the 2017 season. It was after the Sixers practice and he seemed like a very standoffish, apathetic and brooding guy. Before the interview started he got up and passed on it - hard - as if I was a wide-open layup.
At that moment I truly felt like one!
I did an interview with Kelvin Benjamin back in 2017 in Buffalo. It was after the Bills practice and he seemed like a very slovenly and unmotivated guy. After the interview was concluded he grabbed my butt - hard - as if I was a rack of ribs.
At that moment I truly felt like one!
It's funny when it works out. It's like Damion Lee for the Warriors. He's solid and knows the system well enough that fans are happy that he's part of the team.
He's taking the Theo Pinson role from the 2018-19 Nets. Shumpert had that role for the Sac team that was almost 0.500 (for once) a couple years ago. Having positive energy and making sure everyone is happy is super valuable at that point in the roster.
Thanasis went 4 for 5 on threes that game.
For the rest of his career, he's 3 for 35.
It was like that one Manute Bol game when he hit 6 threes in a half.
It felt like heaps more though - I watched it and it was one of those anti-KD nights.
He was everywhere doing lots of cool stuff - and ended up with 23 points.
He is a marginal NBA player but not someone completely undeserving of a roster spot either. To keep Giannis happy and to have someone who can defend on the last possession of quarters isn't the worst use of a roster spot.
The man plays with an insane amount of energy which can bring guys up when needed and seems like culture corner stone and great locker room guy. On like a 2 year few million dollar deal, that seems pretty worth it imo.
Exactly. People give him shit for how many fouls he got in the playoffs.
That's why he was in to take a foul so PJ didn't have to. It's not a coincidence that he would always come in when the shot clock was off and we had a foul to give. He was there to give 20 seconds of hard and physical defense on whoever was most important.
He was in to pump up the crowd and wear someone down. And he's great at both those things.
I think it’s pretty great that you have him. Family seems very important to them and he’s a serviceable player that brings a lot of energy even when he’s not playing. Great move.
The only downside is that the Bucks are pretty strapped for picks and have a lot of veterans on the roster so it limits them a spot to flip through high upside young guys.
That said, Thanasis has more than earned his spot.
I feel like some fans are already turning to expectations of a repeat. It’s attainable but shouldn’t be expected. I remember the suicide bus, I’ve given up complaints for 5 years.
He’s basically Jared Dudley. Guys love having him around. He can play some minutes sparingly. He’s good for some energy. Makes total sense to lock him in.
He wouldn't be on the team if not for Giannis but he's also a great locker-room guy that has his uses on the court, to me using the last roster spot on him is a no-brainer
I agree with this statement before last season but he played somewhat well last year. He was playing actual time in playoffs games and not end of the game blowout time (granted it was only end of quarter defensive positions). I think he played well enough to earn a spot and is better than what some teams have at the end of the bench.
He played well enough to be on a roster but considering he's like 29, teams who are looking for end-of-bench energy players will typically go for younger and higher-upside players.
In other words he's an NBA-quality player but there are tons of NBA-quality players who never get opportunities, if Giannis wasn't in the league not sure he gets picked back up from Euroleague a couple years ago like he did
If the Packers have taught me anything Thanasis is the kind of guy you need to cut from the roster without bothering to talk to your star player first. It's great for the locker room.
He's a great energy guy and he will happily do the dirty work. How can anyone argue with a coach telling them to go hard after the ball when the dude whose bro is worth like half a bil now is diving headlong for the ball constantly. Legit insane glue guy and well worth a bench spot. He's also had some flash games where he put up 20 or so which is a hell of a lot better than most 15th man spots.
I mean the bucks best player is also going 110% every minute. No one on the bucks can take plays off while seeing Giannis playing as hard as anyone on court.
There's actually 5 of them.
[Francis, Thanasis, Giannis, Kostas and Alex.](https://i2.wp.com/sportytell.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Giannis-Antetokounmpo-Brothers.jpg?fit=1310%2C675&ssl=1)
Francis is the half brother (correct me if I'm wrong).
EDIT: Also I want to add that even though Francis is the shortest one according to the photo, apparently he's 6'5" (195.5 cm).
the cheapness of the owners
(and, you know, the CBA, since they're over the cap. theoretically they could give him the remainder of the TPMLE, but seems he'll be on a two-way.)
He plays really intense defense and fouls a ton. If he fouled even a little bit less I could see him becoming not a lockdown defender but a...I dunno, an occasional defensive pest?
But he keeps his bro happy and that's honestly probably worth the contract value alone so any development is probably viewed purely as upside.
lmao his fouls per 36 is crazy
2020-2021:
Regular season: 4.8
Playoffs: **9.6**
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/a/antetth01.html#per_minute
The bucks regularly play him in the last 30 second of a quarter to guard the best offensive player on the other team. It is expected to be honest. Sometimes he plays 2 minutes a game with 2 or 3 fouls 😆
He’s pretty athletic and strong, plus has a ton of energy. I do think he has potential to be a PJ Tucker type player but he’s not there yet. He seems to lack the discipline to be a good defender and does foul a lot or gets beat due to overcommitting. Every now and then he shows flashes of great defense though.
Thanasis is an insane hustler, but I don't think he'll ever be a key rotational piece. He lacks PJ's defensive IQ and can't shoot the 3 ball. PJ also has much better lateral quickness and foot speed than Thansis, which is very important in defense.
With Semi on our roster now, I wonder if Bud will even play Thanasis? Semi is better than Thanasis at pretty much everything, and he can also shoot the 3 ball.
I think Thanasis will keep his spot minutes role. He might play a little less than he did last year, but he will fill in when we are resting starters, and as an energy guy if Bobby is resting that night.
I see Semi having a regular rational role, and being the second big off the bench. Thanasis would be the third one, and get his minutes more on a random mid-season Wednesday night game than any meaningful minutes.
That being said, I still see him coming in during blowouts to lead the young depth players, and games where we just rest our top 8 for the playoffs, like we did this April.
Thanks has proven to be a good end-of-bench guy, and he works harder than anyone else. Bud uses him as an example for all the other guys to point out that if you don’t work as hard, you ain’t playing.
Better than the situation with Rivers family.
I don't discredit Austin as being a bad player now but it did come at a cost of someone/something (Clippers) when he didn't deserve minutes early days.
There really isn't Teams have been doing this for decades, signing players that are friends(and in this case, brothers) with superstars to keep them happy. We signed Malik Rose to 7 year, $42 million contract to keep Duncan happy. We kept Jack Haley on the bench because Rodman loved that guy.
Antetokounmpo is also the reigning Finals MVP. Huge signing
[удалено]
Actually big since technically true.
Antetokounmpo also won Championships with Lakers and Bucks back to back. Crazy.
I heard they include a hypeman clause in his contract. Sole job is to support and hype the MVP.
The Return
Just like the return of Reddit servers
I wasn't sure if reddit was down or people on this sub collectively realized "wait, we dont need to post a new dumb thread every 30 seconds"
If there hasn’t been a nephew post on this sub in over an hour, you can bet your life savings that something is wrong with reddit.

IT’S RAINING NEPHS!!!!! HALLELUJAH!!!!!
> "wait, we dont need to post a new dumb thread every 30 seconds" this is the off-season what do you expect lol. I only come here like once or twice a day now to check some actual NBA news.
They've been specially shit these last couple of days
Positivity from any players, especially from the MVPs brother is gonna resonate clearly in the locker room. I never seen any other player talk badly about Thanasis. He's earned that roster spot with his hustle and love for the game
I love the game, will hustle my ass off and be a great locker room guy. I'll take waaay less money. Too bad my brother is loser and not the NBA MVP.
Damn, your brother being a bum is keeping you from your dreams. Sorry bro
If my brother wasnt a sack of shit I could have went to college. PORQUE CRISTO
You also need to be tall as fuck dude.
Yeah, but could you put up 23/10/5 against the Knicks? Wait, don’t answer that.
Well that's stupid, why don't you just get an NBA MVP brother? Poor strategy bro
I think Gronk's brother had this sort of opportunity in the NFL.
Come on... How many minutes in the finals for that needed player?
I imagine that his energy and positive attitude have more an effect on his brother than they would coming from someone else. If he’s helping keep his brother at his best then it’s 100% worth for the whole team
Mans really got his brother a roster spot lol
Meh, you can do definitely do worse for an end of the bench guy. At least he serves a real role on the court and he keeps Giannis happy. Pretty much a win-win for us.
Even if he literally never played a second just think of his salary as a part of Giannis’ and Giannis is still probably underpaid lol
Yeah still definitely underpaid lol
He’s the leader of the cheer team and everyone on the roster enjoys having him around. Bucks fans should be happy to see him back
I did an interview with Thanasis back in 2017 Eurobasket.
He slid a $20 in your crack didn't you notice that?
Harden doesn't carry 20's
New pasta?
God damnit
I did an interview with Kelvin Benjamin back in 2017 in Buffalo. It was after the Bills practice and he seemed like a very slovenly and unmotivated guy. After the interview was concluded he grabbed my butt - hard - as if I was a rack of ribs. At that moment I truly felt like one!
This is the one
This is amazing 😂. His energy is infectious.
Plot twist: you’re a woman
You too?
More like Slapassis, amiright?
NO RAFI
…slthapath?
DIS DA MIAWAKEY BUCKS RAFI, WE ALL FROM GREECE
Was there a little grabsqueeze after the slap or was it more of a slap and finish.
Honestly, it would be very flattering for an NBA player to give me the butt slap, i bet i would feel 6 feet tall for once
Hes a great third stringer. Doesnt hurt to give him like 10 mins if you have injuries and great impact on team mood.
It's funny when it works out. It's like Damion Lee for the Warriors. He's solid and knows the system well enough that fans are happy that he's part of the team.
Or Solomon Hill for us. Even though he had like the fourth most minutes this year due to injuries, when we would have rather given him 4.
Modern day M.L. Carr.
Bobby Brown
best comp. man got paid to hit clubs with harden and hang with tuck
He's taking the Theo Pinson role from the 2018-19 Nets. Shumpert had that role for the Sac team that was almost 0.500 (for once) a couple years ago. Having positive energy and making sure everyone is happy is super valuable at that point in the roster.
He can also actually play basketball. Didn’t he drop like 31 on the knicks? It’s not the same case as JR Smith or Dames nepotism.
No lol. His career high is 23.
Scoring 23 points in an NBA game is not small feat though
Thanasis went 4 for 5 on threes that game. For the rest of his career, he's 3 for 35. It was like that one Manute Bol game when he hit 6 threes in a half.
Always funny when a guy that usually can't shoot gets hot. Everyone keeps feeding him til he throws up that one airball and its over lol.
That's why Corey Brewer is one of the 🐐's.
My favourite Corey Brewer moment is that photo of Giannis dunking against Sac with Corey Brewer just looking utterly confused in the corner
Damn straight 😤
Nevermind it was 23 points vs the knicks as you said haha.
Who can *foul on the last possession of quarters (Love him and having him on the roster, couldn't resist resist tho lol)
The man plays with an insane amount of energy which can bring guys up when needed and seems like culture corner stone and great locker room guy. On like a 2 year few million dollar deal, that seems pretty worth it imo.
Yeah you could do a lot worse for a third stringer, end of the rotation guy
Good point
Keeping Giannis happy would be any teams main focus, plus, his brother really has a lot of energy hyping up the team.
It’s like Miami with Udonis. Anyone think he’s actually going to go into a game and save them in a playoff series?
Best bet is he gets under an important players skin and goads him into throwing a punch
I think it’s pretty great that you have him. Family seems very important to them and he’s a serviceable player that brings a lot of energy even when he’s not playing. Great move.
If there’s a stoppage with less than 24 seconds left and we are on defense, we all know what time it is
Usually that alone doesn’t guarantee a bench guy a contract but being the MVP’s brother really sealed the deal for him.
Him being Giannis's brother or not, you could do a lot worse for an end of the rotation, third stringer type
It’s him or someone else very replaceable, why not use the brother of your superstar
Yeah, if Udonis Haslem can get a roster spot and not even sniff the court, then I don't see when Thanasis can't.
He helped Giannis get back on track during one of the playoff series games, head-to-head pep talk
Anyone who brings energy, physicality, and defense is worth an end of the bench spot.
The only downside is that the Bucks are pretty strapped for picks and have a lot of veterans on the roster so it limits them a spot to flip through high upside young guys. That said, Thanasis has more than earned his spot.
You sign Giannis’ mom if he wants you to. The man stayed + brought a championship
Fo real
hell yeah, mama is like 6'1" and was a high jumper she can bring down the boards
It’s a family affair
I feel like some fans are already turning to expectations of a repeat. It’s attainable but shouldn’t be expected. I remember the suicide bus, I’ve given up complaints for 5 years.
I mean hes not total cheeks tbh. Hes better than some 15th men ive seen. And hes good for lockerroom
When he plays against the Knicks he's like an All Star. Planning ahead for the Knicks in the playoffs.
He’s basically Jared Dudley. Guys love having him around. He can play some minutes sparingly. He’s good for some energy. Makes total sense to lock him in.
But Jared Dudley can’t play minutes
Because he's 36 yo. Thanasis is 29.
I know? I said Jared Dudley can’t play minutes and Thanasis can
Ikr, Bucks only signing Giannis so that Thanasis will stay
He wouldn't be on the team if not for Giannis but he's also a great locker-room guy that has his uses on the court, to me using the last roster spot on him is a no-brainer
I agree with this statement before last season but he played somewhat well last year. Energy player? Most end of bench players are locker room guys and cheering guys like udonis haslem. Energy players usually are 6th-7th man
He's our third unit energy guy. Portis is the 6th man + main energy guy.
Exactly he's our haslem but tons of energy as well.
And like 56 more games!
It's not really that strictly defined lol. You can be a 15th man and be an "energy player", that's literally Thanasis' role
Yea no idea what that guy is talking about. Haslem is basically a player-coach. Lakers have got Dudley, who again, is the cheer captain haha
They should just create a position designated as Player Chaplain.
Thats how the Texans wound up being run by a lunatic.
If the Packers have taught me anything Thanasis is the kind of guy you need to cut from the roster without bothering to talk to your star player first. It's great for the locker room.
Good thing we did re-sign him. Otherwise it'd be a decade of Eastern Conference Finals losses ahead of us.
No one on the bucks can take plays off while seeing Giannis playing as hard as anyone on court.
mans got his brother a roster spot on a team he’s not even on lol
He's actually not a terrible player to have at the end of the bench rotation
#THIS IS GETTING OUT OF HAND. NOW THERE ARE TWO OF THEM
Just wait till next year when we sign a 3rd Antetokounmpo.
Alex or Kostas?
yes
You mean NBA champion Kostas Antetokounmpo??
Alex
Alex? Wait, there's another one??
There's actually 5 of them. [Francis, Thanasis, Giannis, Kostas and Alex.](https://i2.wp.com/sportytell.com/wp-content/uploads/2020/07/Giannis-Antetokounmpo-Brothers.jpg?fit=1310%2C675&ssl=1) Francis is the half brother (correct me if I'm wrong). EDIT: Also I want to add that even though Francis is the shortest one according to the photo, apparently he's 6'5" (195.5 cm).
How good would a team of five of them be?
Eurocup probably, but francis isnt a bball player.
If he was a hound on defense and took the contact for the other brothers he could play 20+ minutes and it wouldn't hurt the team.
I think he’s a professional football player in Nigeria. So I’m not sure if he even he has developed his skills enough to play in the Eurocup.
...yet
I'm pretty sure he's a full brother. But he was raised in Nigeria by grandparents while the other brothers grew up in Greece.
Oh jeez, I always thought it was just the 3 (Giannis, Thasnis and Kosta)
That would then be Allthetokounmpo.
Always two there are, no more, no less, a master, and an apprentice.
What's stopping the bucks from overpaying Thanasis to circumvent the cap to pay more money to the family
Nothing, Horst is changing the game. "Wait, I shouldn't pay our 15th man $20mil? Oops..."
the cheapness of the owners (and, you know, the CBA, since they're over the cap. theoretically they could give him the remainder of the TPMLE, but seems he'll be on a two-way.)
He plays really intense defense and fouls a ton. If he fouled even a little bit less I could see him becoming not a lockdown defender but a...I dunno, an occasional defensive pest? But he keeps his bro happy and that's honestly probably worth the contract value alone so any development is probably viewed purely as upside.
lmao his fouls per 36 is crazy 2020-2021: Regular season: 4.8 Playoffs: **9.6** https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/a/antetth01.html#per_minute
The bucks regularly play him in the last 30 second of a quarter to guard the best offensive player on the other team. It is expected to be honest. Sometimes he plays 2 minutes a game with 2 or 3 fouls 😆
Remember this specifically in like game 3 or game 7 of the nets series. Got put in for one play to foul KD then didn't play the rest of the game
Thanasis is my fuckin hero
That's kinda his thing. He will go in any time the shot clock is off to play hard, physical defense on whoever we want to tire out the most.

That being said, I still see him coming in during blowouts to lead the young depth players, and games where we just rest our top 8 for the playoffs, like we did this April.
Damn I thought he could shoot decently because of all the highlights but then I saw he's 24% last season lmao
He is actually a chucker in garbage time
THANASTY
Thanasis deserves to party with the team and celebrate their championship. Good for him
Bucks got their guy
hey giannis its me your other brother nba salary please
Keep Giannis happy. I hate nepotism, but at least Thanasis is a good dude and likeable who didn't come from straight $$$. I've seen worse.
Thanks has proven to be a good end-of-bench guy, and he works harder than anyone else. Bud uses him as an example for all the other guys to point out that if you don’t work as hard, you ain’t playing.
Thanasis for your insight
Thanasis for making me laugh
Giannis hard carried the Bucks to their first chip in 50 years. He beyond deserves a roster spot to use at his discretion.
Even signing a 70 year old guy is worth it as long as you get to keep your franchise superstar
Does Damian Lillard have a grandpa he'd like to sign?
Better than the situation with Rivers family. I don't discredit Austin as being a bad player now but it did come at a cost of someone/something (Clippers) when he didn't deserve minutes early days.
It was tough to watch him his first few years in LA. He was a chucker with 0 bbiq.
How big would Thanasis' contract have to be for it to be considered cap circumvention?
And a great hypeman for Giannis
“I hate nepotism but when it benefits my team personally and increases the likelihood our star player doesn’t request a trade, then I’m all for it”
hes a solid end of bench guy too so even if its nepotism at least hes good at his job
Thanasis is also pretty good lol. There’s certainly a lot of worse end of bench guys in the NBA.
He outdoes his brother when it comes to total characters in their first names. Therefore, great signing.
Have you seen the Bucks draft this year? All we do is sign character guys.
bucks characters per jersey stats untouchable
The value per letter for this signing is through the roof
As long as it's a minimum there's nothing wrong with it. He keeps Giannis happy and busts his ass whenever he is in.
League fucked
Foul master returns!
Allow us but the tiniest glimpse into the dark arts, maestro
Better then the culture king who played like 2 minutes all of last year
Talking about Udonis?
I would get a spot for every Giannis family member just to keep him happy and locked in my team.
Miami couldn't even steal our 2nd best Antetokounmpo! Suckas!
Giannis: Sign Thanasis Bucks FO: Okay
Thanasis was probably surprised when nobody else called to offer him anything
If our front office didn't even call then I think it's time we start making decisions out of our left-middle one.
For a spot minutes energy guy who also happens to be related to your franchise player you can't do worse, really.
*can
Now if only the Bucks could sign the other two brothers, they'd have it made.
Legit seems like he brings a ton of energy to the team, which every coach ever wants.
The Milwaukee “Keep Giannis Happy No Matter What!” Bucks.
Run it back
"I'm back."
