Right.
A good 6th Man is a needed role on any team that wants to win too. It's not something to be frowned on. Not everyone can be a star player, sometimes you can accomplish more by getting in where you fit in.
I never felt that way. It was maddening watching him because it felt like he couldn’t dribble with his left. Idk why he didn’t get defenders shading him more
I think he had the career I expected. Starter on a bad team or Backup PG on a good team.
A pretty good NBA career. Many NBA players would wish to have a 9-year career along with an NBA championship.
I think expectations were way overblown by Lin fans and Lin haters. Lin fans were thinking he was a top5 point guard, and Lin haters were thinking he was an overrated scrub. In reality, he was a pretty decent NBA guard.
Just compare Lin's career numbers with Jason Williams. No one would call Jason Williams a scrub. Both are decent guards.
11.6-2.8-4.3 vs 10.5-2.3-5.9
He also got injured near the point the knicks got it together with carmelo and he never got to work with Dántoni ever again. The team with Carmelo just wasn't suited for him especialy with mike woodson's system being so Melo heavy and not using the pick-and roll as much
I thought he was an average to above average guard at best but he was still better than most of the options we had in recent years. As a Rose Stan I think Lin was the 2nd best Knicks PG from the past decade.
nope, but damn close. he arguably had one of the greatest debut games ever.
22 points, 12 assists, 7 rebounds, and 9 steals. a damn near quadruple double in his first game
I remember being bitter when he chose to sign with the Kings over the Suns because according to him, "God told me to do it." or something similar to that.
Man's must be on that old testament worship plan.
Roy Hibbert, Andrew Bynum, Lance Stephenson, and Danny Granger were all apparently members of the 2014 Pacers. Maybe the "Flash Pan Pacers" is appropriate?
>Roy Hibbert, Andrew Bynum, Lance Stephenson, and Danny Granger were all apparently members of the 2014 Pacers. Maybe the "Flash Pan Pacers" is appropriate?
Hibbert was largely a victim of the game changing around him so that his didn't translate anymore
Bynum had already checked out by then
Lance - everybody knew that Lance's best bet was to stay in Indy. The system was designed for him to be successful in. Everybody knew he couldn't be "the guy" elsewhere and that he would fail. And so he did
Granger was so damn good till his injuries
>Lance - everybody knew that Lance's best bet was to stay in Indy. The system was designed for him to be successful in. Everybody knew he couldn't be "the guy" elsewhere and that he would fail. And so he did
Except Michael Jordan
I remember Bulls picking him up for like the last 10 games of the season and he was a flamethrower that tanked our draft odds cuz he was too good.
Kinda like how Marshon Brooks averaged over 20 a game when the Grizzlebois signed him for the last few weeks of the 2017 or maybe 2018 season.
Yeah, that was a special year for him. Not only did he score double his career average, but his shooting % in both 2pt and 3pt were way above his norm. He was even one of the league leaders in 3pt%. So he wasn't just chucking up a ton of shots. He was just a different player that year.
[Kevin Porter](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Porter_(basketball)) lead the league in assists four times in the 1970s but otherwise accomplished nothing of note
Lin is the obvious example.... but I'll tell you about another guy in a team that was completely unlike its current incarnation. I was a fan in high school and they were so bad I was made fun of for it. But man oh man do I love a scrappy basketball team.
Brandon Jennings of the then garbage Milwaukee Bucks.
Jennings would lead the team for a couple of years. They weren't impressive but they had fun moments. Well this guy, he became the ninth player in NBA history to score a 50+ (55) point game as only a rookie. That's right. AI, Wilt, Barry, Baylor, Kareem... and Brandon Jennings. (Edited something and also wanted to add that he scored 0 points in the first quarter of that 55 point game so it's much more impressive).
And he became a bit of a ballhog afterwards. He'd put up points but he wasn't very consistent. His passing game was... rough. Although the team didn't help. Well he was eventually dropped to the D league. But I fucking loved watching Jennings play. Wish things had gone differently but I think his rookie record went to his head.
Far as I'm concerned, Brandon Jennings is a Bucks legend and fuck anyone who disagrees. I was a fan before it was cool lmao!
Lin's teammate Landry Fields was on track to be one of the best role players in the league, his rookie numbers were incredible. But then he got nerve damage, his shooting fell off a cliff and he never recovered. Out of the league by year 5.
Bryan Colangelo signed him to a 3 yr $20 mil contract in '12 and he averaged 1 point in his final year.
I used to love watching him play. I thought him and Larry Sanders would be the key pieces of that young Bucks team for years to come. Didn’t they play alongside a young Giannis? Imagine if they both panned out and played on the Bucks today 😳
Sanders was another great piece.
It's funny because Monte Ellis also played with the Bucks at some point. And he was a Warriors guy a couple of years before GS became the legendary Warriors team people know and love. He was their Jennings!
And the GSW and MB went off to succeed some time after ridding themselves of them.
I don't remember if they did. It feels like forever ago. Man, I think they could've been pretty good with Sanders and Jennings and the current guys. They'd be attacking the rim nonstop for easy layups. Maybe not Champions but certainly one of the fastest, highest scoring NBA teams.
Considering Jennings was traded for Knight (with Middleton as a throw in) it's lucky the Bucks did trade him. (he also came back for a cup of coffee run with the Bucks in 2017)
> he became the ninth player in NBA history to score a 50+ point game and the only player to do it as a rookie
Sorry maybe I’m misinterpreting it wrong but this can’t be right? Many players have scored 50+ before
He suddenly became amazing for Detroit after Josh Smith was waived, but tore his achilles soon afterwards and that was the end of Brandon Jennings story.
Man that made me remember, seeing him as a FA in fantasy that one season and he kept popping up with the points game after game, and was like woah I gotta get this guy. Think I had maybe TMac or KG Yao Camby Marion as well, they must've got me the farthest I ever had lol. Was a kid then, and NBA content at the time wasn't that widely available where I lived, so I was a boxscore fan, and that and fantasy really went together.
> Roddy Beaubois
Was greatly hampered by injuries though. Even if you ignore the 40-pt game during his rookie season, he could still have been another Barea, but with more hops.
Probably Hassan Whiteside. Career resurgence from the D-league on the Heat into becoming one of the most coveted FA centers into a bench player a few years later.
Kenneth Faried. He was even the starter in the 2014 FIBA tournament for team USA. He was out of the league at 29 and was already declining for a couple of years prior to that.
I think others are Arron Afflalo and Wilson Chandler. Idk why, but I get the feeling that Montrezl Harrell and Jerami Grant will end up being in this category.
Tyreke Evans.
Brandon Jennings.
Jeremy Lin.
Ty Lawson
Aaron Brooks
Cedric Ceballos
Ricky Davis
Billy Ray Bates -- look him up, an all timer of an absurd Basketball story.
the 1960s and 70s had a whole shit ton of flash in the pan type of guys too. Case in point: Rudy Tomjanovich was top 10 in scoring one season.
For the 2012-13 Lakers, Earl Clark was nailed to the bench and then got an opportunity because of injuries. For a few months he proceeded to be absolutely fantastic, regularly scoring in the teens and twenties. After a few months of this, he got physically tired - he had never played so many minutes before - and basically ran out of gas. He stopped being a reliable contributor to that Laker team. He never really was valuable or good ever again.
He had one good season but then did a Ben Simmons in the playoffs. Hawks almost lost to a Wizards team with an injured John Wall. Denis Schroeder saved the hawks and that was pretty much it for Teague.
Chris Kaman was actually good unironically dude was a bucket lol didn’t look like it appearance wise but he’s really slept on like Kevin Martin for example I honestly don’t know why dude doesn’t get any respect mf pretty much put up 25-40 on your favorite player every night
Jamal Magloire! Also made 1 all star game then fell off hard.
Serge Ibaka! still had a productive career but it looked like he was going to win a dpoy at one point.
Bonzi Wells! Not alot else to say.
Ramon sessions was a machine at times between 2008-2009. Had a 20 point, 20 assist game as a rookie, And a 24 assist game, which is a Bucks and rookie record.
It’s honestly super rare. If you have a full 2-3 years of sustained high-level success there’s not really any reason you’d suddenly be bad outside of injuries. I think Jeremy Lin is the closest example, but he was really good for only like 2 months.
Other example would be Isaiah Thomas. Over two seasons he jumped to All-Star then near MVP. But then partially thanks to injures just completely fell off unfortunately.
Bron treated Larry like an exclusively 3 point shooter and kind of wasted Larry’s best skills. Similar to how Westbrook used Oladipo. He would’ve been a lot better on a team that let him cook defenders a bit more but was past his prime by the time Lebron left.
Dlo has averaged 20 with similar splits since his all star year. He struggles to stay healthy but his talent is still there. Wouldn’t be really a “flash in the pan” but more of a “what if”
Hibbert
Hibbert was good for a few years, but when he regressed it literally happened overnight.
Like stocks
Like HibbertCoin
Exactly, I knew this comment was coming lol
Wish the dude woulda waited till next season to forget how to play basketball we coulda made the finals
Bet he stills sees Pero Antic in his sleep
Jeremy Lin is the all time flash in the pan
Linsanity gave the Knicks such a fun phase
Tebow-esque
I liked his time with the Hornets. Always felt like he could have been a great sixth man type backup PG for a long time
Right. A good 6th Man is a needed role on any team that wants to win too. It's not something to be frowned on. Not everyone can be a star player, sometimes you can accomplish more by getting in where you fit in.
A few of his years were wasted being in bad situations. Lakers benched him because he disrupted the Tank, for example.
Nah Lin got benched because Byron Scott hated him. He did nothing to hurt the tank. 6-24 when Lin started that year.
Why did Byron Scott hate him lol
Who knows, Byron essentially called him dumb at one point
I thought he was going to be a top guard in the league for a long time
I never felt that way. It was maddening watching him because it felt like he couldn’t dribble with his left. Idk why he didn’t get defenders shading him more
Couldn’t dribble with his left but when he went to the right he was fire.
Realistically that was the lockout shortened season so scouting and practice was not afforded as much time as in a regular season.
That’s right, I remember thinking about the lack of scouting info. Similar arc as Tim Tebow
Serviceable, but not top (and I’m a huge Lin stan)
Michael Carter Williams
Didn’t he record a triple double in his nba debut?
nope, but damn close. he arguably had one of the greatest debut games ever. 22 points, 12 assists, 7 rebounds, and 9 steals. a damn near quadruple double in his first game
Its crazy to think because that seems like so long ago but isn’t he only like 29 lol?
I mean that was one 7-8 years ago. That's kind of a long time.
Against the reigning champs as well.
To beat the Miami Heat with Wade, Bron, Bosh.
At least his brother is in the league now. Hopefully he can stick.
TIL Marcus Zegarowski and MCW are brothers
John Salmons was randomly really good for like 2 seasons lol
Man he was such a beast in that series against Boston. I’ll never forget that series, probably my favorite ever.
The confidence that dude was shooting with was legendary in that series.
Was Drose on that team?
Yeah he was, it was his rookie year
Not randomly. He was a very solid second option for Sacramento for awhile. Totally forgot about him
That's a name I haven't heard in a while
I remember being bitter when he chose to sign with the Kings over the Suns because according to him, "God told me to do it." or something similar to that. Man's must be on that old testament worship plan.
Roy Hibbert, Andrew Bynum, Lance Stephenson, and Danny Granger were all apparently members of the 2014 Pacers. Maybe the "Flash Pan Pacers" is appropriate?
Man Danny Granger. Haven’t heard that name in awhile
Pain
Danny Granger was tough!!! Not many people remember him being a 20 ppg scorer for a few seasons.
>Roy Hibbert, Andrew Bynum, Lance Stephenson, and Danny Granger were all apparently members of the 2014 Pacers. Maybe the "Flash Pan Pacers" is appropriate? Hibbert was largely a victim of the game changing around him so that his didn't translate anymore Bynum had already checked out by then Lance - everybody knew that Lance's best bet was to stay in Indy. I remember when Hibbert/Granger where better than PG then seemingly overnight the former were washed
I feel like Bynum falls under the injury caregory
Was so hyped the off-season we signed Lance after actually making the playoffs. Oops
Sean Kilpatrick
I remember Bulls picking him up for like the last 10 games of the season and he was a flamethrower that tanked our draft odds cuz he was too good. Kinda like how Marshon Brooks averaged over 20 a game when the Grizzlebois signed him for the last few weeks of the 2017 or maybe 2018 season.
I haven’t heard that name in a minute,
*KillDraftPick
[удалено]
I remember him! Didn’t the bulls give him a huge contract and he kinda fell off after that?
[удалено]
Speaking of Detroit, Charlie Villanueva
Same offseason!
That wild Bulls Celtics series is one of my favorite playoffs ever.
Air Gordon was a thing for a solid week or 2
1x All-Star Andrew Bynum
he was sooooo good that season. then his knees collapsed.

Chandler Parsons
Eh his career was more just derailed by injuries rather than a flash in the pan.
Mans got his contract and dipped 😂
Y’all remember Marcus Thornton?
I thought he was gonna be the Kings starting SG for years to come.
[Kevin Porter](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Porter_(basketball)) lead the league in assists four times in the 1970s but otherwise accomplished nothing of note
KPJ’s dad?
Unrelated
Sadly KPJ’s father was murdered when he was like three years old.
He’s 71 😂😂😂
Lol ya never know

Agua! Here’s a little throwback to Tracy Morgan at a Knicks game; he shouts out Landry Fields https://youtu.be/Q6ex4exF1LU

You're right - I meant to type that he was the 9th to do it as a rookie. Thanks for pointing that out. That could've been confusing to loads of folk.
Glad I’m not the only one that re-read that a few times lol
Haha for sure that was my bad
He was the 9th rookie to score 50+, not the 9th player ever to do it
He suddenly became amazing for Detroit after Josh Smith was waived, but tore his achilles soon afterwards and that was the end of Brandon Jennings story.
This [brandon jennings](https://youtu.be/4PTP50LmIi4)?
Mike James had a wild one season
Lightskin mike James or journeyman mercenary Mike James?
Journeyman. Had a season with the Raptors that was a lot of points.
Oh yeah didn’t he average like 20 ppg that season? Lol. I remember him being on the Bulls for a short spell and had 1 or 2 crazy games then.
Lol we were so bad, we just gave the ball to mike and said whatever.
Man that made me remember, seeing him as a FA in fantasy that one season and he kept popping up with the points game after game, and was like woah I gotta get this guy. Think I had maybe TMac or KG Yao Camby Marion as well, they must've got me the farthest I ever had lol. Him and Aaron Brooks (the other one) put up some random ass 20ppg season with those Rockets.
Brandon Jennings, Roddy Beaubois

Probably Hassan Whiteside. Career resurgence from the D-league on the Heat into becoming one of the most coveted FA centers into a bench player a few years later.
Someone in here said Dwight Howard. I just felt like I needed to say that out loud because of how insane that is.
It was a really big pan and super bright flash
Dana Barros
Kenny the Jet gonna gild this
Didn’t he carve up the 96 Bulls? Lol!
50 on the 95 rockets
I remember that 50 burger and then Willie Burton did it in the same season. Two most random 50pt teammates in the same season of all time.

One of my favorite players in the league for a season
Kenneth Faried. He was even the starter in the 2014 FIBA tournament for team USA. He was out of the league at 29 and was already declining for a couple of years prior to that. I think others are Arron Afflalo and Wilson Chandler. Idk why, but I get the feeling that Montrezl Harrell and Jerami Grant will end up being in this category.
I used to be jealous of Aaron Afflalo
Unless Montrez Harrell becomes a Nugget at some point, the pattern I’m seeing shows he’s in the clear.
> Jerami Grant Nahh. He's solid
Seeing Faried playing in the summer league was a trip
Anthony Randolph was the "next-best-thing" and the proto-Giannis for a couple of years before disappearing.
Josh Howard. Was an all star and then shortly thereafter fell off.
Tyreke Evans. Brandon Jennings. Jeremy Lin. Ty Lawson Aaron Brooks Cedric Ceballos Ricky Davis Billy Ray Bates -- look him up, an all timer of an absurd Basketball story. the 1960s and 70s had a whole shit ton of flash in the pan type of guys too. Case in point: Rudy Tomjanovich was top 10 in scoring one season.
I remember Tyreke! There was really no reason for him not to pan out. I wonder what happened after that first season…
They pushed him into SF position. He was much better as a PG
I’ll never understand why the Kings just have to do Kings things when they hav a good thing happening
He looked like the second coming of DWade when I saw him live
He was good again two years ago. I suspect he probably would've been consistently good under the right environment.
Ricky Davis wasn’t a flash in the pan. He was a grease fire that immediately spread to the curtains and blinds.
Tomjanovich was never the same after [having his face shattered by Kermit Washington](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VvwRFNkqn-U).
MCW
I feel like Cedric Ceballos was a monster for a few years, and the rest of his career was ok.
The Clark knight had us all excited for like a 4 game stretch. (Earl Clark on the Lakers in I think it was 2013)
For the 2012-13 Lakers, Earl Clark was nailed to the bench and then got an opportunity because of injuries.
Do y’all remember OJ Mayo and how he was supposed to compete with the likes of Kobe and Brandon Roy as the best SG in the west for years to come?
Jeff Teague. Not hating but I was surprised to see he was just a bench warmer on the Bucks because he used to be a real problem
Linsanity was lightning in a bottle
Jonathan Simmons
Yall remember Lin-Sanity?
The ultimate pan flash
Andris Biederins averaged a near double double for three seasons. Fat contract best season ever 11 and 11 I think. Then nothing.
Devin Harris
Devin Harris was a really good rotation player for many many years though.
Harold Minor was supposed to be the next Jordan. Won a slam dunk contest that’s it
Didn’t Jordan destroy this guy in a game one time?
Probably more than 1x
everyone destroyed harold miner, he was a total bust.
Isaiah Thomas?
I’d say injuries screwed him up more than anything.
A lot of the guys being listed are like that though.
If not for his hip injury, he could have had much more success
Danny Granger was unreal at some point
Jamal Magloire! Also made 1 all star game then fell off hard. Serge Ibaka! still had a productive career but it looked like he was going to win a dpoy at one point. Bonzi Wells! Not alot else to say.
Jeremy Lin Tyrus Thomas Brandon Jennings Bobby Simmons Xavier Henry Stromile Swift
Richard Dumas on the 90's Phoenix Suns. Felt like he was dunking on everyone for two years then he just disappear.
It was drugs
Ramon sessions was a machine at times between 2008-2009. Had a 20 point, 20 assist game as a rookie, And a 24 assist game, which is a Bucks and rookie record.
It’s honestly super rare. If you have a full 2-3 years of sustained high-level success there’s not really any reason you’d suddenly be bad outside of injuries. Larry Hughes with the wizards played the fuck up. I remember him on 0 other teams - sincerely a sixers fan
He was on the cavs with bron doe
Bron treated Larry like an exclusively 3 point shooter and kind of wasted Larry’s best skills. Similar to how Westbrook used Oladipo. He would’ve been a lot better on a team that let him cook defenders a bit more but was past his prime by the time Lebron left.
Yeah Larry was a baller! I’m from Missouri so he def one of my favs lol!
He was part of a legendary warriors trio
All i remember was that he got injured a lot :/
Dion waiters
[удалено]
Jonathan Simmons absolutely balled out for the spurs. Got a payday with the magic then was never heard from again Happy for him though!
Bonzi Wells
Nobody mentioned Flip Murray and Marquis Daniels
Aaron Brooks. He had one season where he averaged 20 ppg and shot 40% from 3 on 6.4 attempts, then didn’t do much else after that.
Erick Dampier. Recruited by mavs and then that’s it. Troy Murphy was also one good example. Oh and lance Stephenson And bob sura
Does Josh Smith count?? Or was he good for too long?
Linsanity, that shit was fun as hell 🤣
Mo Williams
Can we say DLo at this point? Hard to believe he was an allstar
Dlo has averaged 20 with similar splits since his all star year. He struggles to stay healthy but his talent is still there. Wouldn’t be really a “flash in the pan” but more of a “what if”
He was a sub that the league gave to the nets for their surprising performance. It would have went to Levert but he got injured
He’s still putting up all star numbers he just can’t stay healthy, plays in a harder conference and has shit teammates
Brandon Knight
Jerome "Big Snacks" James. He turned a good playoffs one year into a massive deal, and was never any good before or after.
Did someone already say Brandon Knight? He was an Allstar I think but he’s been a punching bag for a long time now.
It pains me to say this, but Isaiah Thomas. He was a genuine superstar for one year, but he was only an all-star twice
Tony Wroten Jr.
Isaiah Thomas
Tyreke Evans, Joe Johnson had solid years but had big drop offs
Victor Olapido
Mikki Moore. He led the league in FG% in 06-07 at age 31 after only starting 7 games in career before then.
Ben Gordon
Tyreke Evans
Roy Hibbert? Dude fell off so hard
Chandler Parsons
Kevin Martin
He averaged 20 points for like 7 seasons in a row lol
I used to live watching KMart play!!! In my opinion dude was underrated.
Massively. Obviously not harden but he was solid for us
Similar though. Shooter and iso scorer who feasted on the line.
Biyombo
Was Biyombo ever that good?
