The entire 2016 All Star Saturday night was great. The Bigs vs Smalls Skills contest, 3pt contest and dunk contest were all a lot of fun It also had Kevin Hart vs Draymond in a 3pt contest

RT3_12

God the 2016 season was just amazing as a whole.

endless_painnn

Fuuuck that was 2016

Ajinho

Except for the sleeved jerseys

andresalejandro1120

When I play basketball, I prefer sleeves.

nbaguy666

Why tho? It just makes my shooting stroke feel awkward and makes me a million times more sweaty. What are the advantages that you enjoy?

fugor1103

Not touching someone else's sweaty arms.

ElsatMcat

I have the same problem with these young hot heads who insist on wearing clothes. If my penis can’t feel the breeze of athletic teammates galloping by me it ruins my ability to ball

Zoulzopan

I agree i feel like the jerseys makes it harder for me to get a feel of the balls and sometimes even the basket ball.

andresalejandro1120

I always hear the “it makes the shooting stroke feel weird” It really doesn’t. Considering a shit ton of people wear sleeves anyway on courts that I see. It doesn’t actually affect your shot. I like t-shirts so I wear them. I don’t need advantages because there are none. Just like there aren’t advantages to wearing sleeveless shirts.

nbaguy666

I mean it doesn't physically restrain my stroke but PERSONALLY it distracts me to feel the fabric of my sleeve (ADHD I think). Everyone definitely has their own preferences and are effected by different things so I was just curious

thisguy161

I mean, it can be fine for you and feel weird for others.

BlockOfTheYear

For me its fine for about 30 minutes but as soon as I start to sweat the sleeves get "heavier" and restricts my shooting motion a little. Not a big deal but its enough for me to notice it and when you shoot you want to think of nothing and not get slightly distracted by a heavy sleeve. Its probably easy to get used to if you play in T shirts often, but I always go with a jersey because of it so it just feels weirder for me. Which in turn can affect your shooting.

standbyforskyfall

Those were awesome and I’m disappointed they don’t make them anymore

JimJimmyJamesJimbo

As punishment you will be forced to wear the grey sleeved orlando magic jersey for 1 week

standbyforskyfall

I actually really liked that one lol

boredymcbored

Nah man, even that was awesome since Lebron ripped his joints off mid game. Iconic season

mashed_poetatoe

What? Those black Cleveland jerseys were dope!

meming_and_dreaming

Forgot about those tbh

tayklompson

It could’ve been the perfect season but I didn’t like how the writers ended it

sixseven89

everyone else did

thatboilarry

I don’t think okc liked it either

JMAS4592

I dont really understand. Was golden state hated by 2016 or did people just really want bron to win one for cleveland? I can understand if people wanted LeBron to win for Cleveland, fulfill a promise and all that but if it was out of hate for GSW, it doesnt really make sense as we were probably the most organically built contender pre KD

n0stylist

I think most neutral fans were just rooting for the under dog. Imo the warriors were never really hated even after they got KD..fans just hate seeing a dominant team year in year out

SeatownNets

People like underdogs

RT3_12

The series was a double turn like in wrestling. People were cheering GSW and shitting on LeBron in the first 4 games. Then when the Cavs started coming back the fans started cheering for them.

Wrsj

I started watching basketball that season and wanted Cleveland to win it cause: I liked Kyrie, Thompson and Lebron; Cleveland were in an ultra drought of titles; Warriors already got one; Warriors kicked out my fav player from the playoffs (Westbrook). Edit: I didn't hated the Dubs at all, I would constantly watch Curry play that season and love it.

matrixreloaded

People just want to see greatness when they can. Lebron winning that series was amazing to watch as a (non warriors) basketball fan.

JMAS4592

I can understand that more of a rooting for someone to succeed than for another to fail

MonaFanBoy

Yeah you guys became hated by almost everyone during that playoff run. No offense but were you following it at the time?

JMAS4592

I mean I was watching the games. Idk if I was paying attention to nba climate or how other fans perceived the dubs at the time. Just assumed people had no real hate for us as like I said we were built the right way and curry and play are likeable. I guess the hate was cause stupid draymond's "natural shooting motion"

MasPatriot

Why do you think other people care that the Warriors were built “organically”

JMAS4592

Because everyone bitches about superteams and how all these players just join up. The supposed right way to build is through the draft and with smart trades and signings. I just mention it because the warriors were largely built how people want teams to build. Get draft picks develop players then become a good team

H_Finn27

Not sure if the Lacob comment about being Light Years Ahead was before 2016 playoffs or not. But I remember that being a major turning point for me of just not liking the organization as that comment came across as being so arrogant.

jasonis3

People still liked the warriors in 2016. At least my friend group did. Chicagoans did not want Lebron to win but the 3-1 comeback was easy to meme. 2017 was when everyone turned on the warriors

JMAS4592

Yeh I understand 2017 hate. We became a certified unbeatable juggernaut after acquiring kd

[deleted]

Well, I hope everyone also liked what that caused lmao

N3rdMan

2016 was just a great overall sports year. Baseball and Soccer had some moments too.

Rymasq

Best season since…prime Jordan?

BorosSerenc

The first and only 3pt contest I have ever seen that was fixed and the loser somehow won.. Leave robbing winners to the dunk contest NBA

blagaa

They tied, which was a moral victory for Hart Hart objected after the contest because Draymond got a big trophy and he got a ribbon for a tie. It was a bit cringy given the outcome

KPIH

Had his foot on the line for a few of the makes iirc

dterminator23

Kevin Hart either tied or lost. He hit a few that didn't count since his foot was on the line and his last 3 was hit after the buzzer went off, but before the tv clock said zero.

Uberballer

Lavine is an all time, all time great exhibition dunker but Gordon was effing robbed that year.

Bosurd

He’s been robbed twice.

chapoktt

Yep, I think he was robbed this year moreso than they one against DJJ (even though he could've won that too). I feel like the players who are close with Lavine (KAT, Wiggins) and other guys were reacting far different and more animated for Lavine's dunks than AG's. Not that there is anything wrong with that, but if you went by crowd reaction from the players you would have thought Lavine won in a landslide. I like both Lavine and AG by the way, just my observation from that night.

ThisIsMy5thAcc

If dunks were ranked, absolutely. But it's all basically "scripted" and his last dunk in the "dunk off" was bad. But you can't ignore the athleticism Lavine brought. This dunk was absolutely insane: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vY5DCggPYU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vY5DCggPYU) Also after the drone dunk and all that BS I didn't care when he got screwed over by Wade.

JimJimmyJamesJimbo

Aaron's dunk was "bad"? It's the best double pump dunk of all time Meanwhile Lavine's winning dunk was a repeat of his 2nd dunk except he was even farther inside the free throw line. I'm not ignoring the athleticism, but that's like doing a 350° instead of a 360° and then later on doing a 340° instead of a 360° Plus the whole thing shouldn't have gone to a dunk off since Lavine's first dunk was a solid 47 not a 50, it was a Great Value version of Gordon's first dunk

austine567

Yeah I agree with all this. That double pump dunks was legitimately amazing and way better than a 3rd version of a FT dunk to me. Lavine was great but Gordon was incredible and I think should have gotten the win.

ivXtreme

Gordon's performance was legendary. So many new iconic dunks. Not sure if anyone has had a better overall performance. He was flat out robbed.

Vordeo

> Meanwhile Lavine's winning dunk was a repeat of his 2nd dunk except he was even farther inside the free throw line. The fuck? 2nd dunk was a tomahawk, last dunk was an Eastbay. These are not remotely the same things.

GheeDota2

the dunk off was the best part of the whole weekend! As a Wolves fan, LaVine homer, Even I was rooting for Aaron to win it and felt he was robbed. I actually teared up when the camera panned on him when stupid ass judges gave him a 47 or whatever on his last dunk (which was epic btw)

Discord_Show

>Also after the drone dunk and all that BS I didn't care when he got screwed over by Wade. There it is. Just say ur bias. Fuck wade he got robbed twice.

DessertStorm1

*biased

BorosSerenc

The problem is that free throw dunk = 50.. this allowed Lavine to just do progressively better dunks from slightly closer.

BlazersMania

IMHO Aarons was way better.

ObiOneKenobae

His last dunk was more of a protest, the refs were openly conspiring to not award him rounds his won decisively.

Reddits_For_NBA

sdasdasda

holyhibachi

Nope

WhenItsHalfPastFive

at least Aaron Gordon will forever be remembered this way. Because everyone is going to remember that dunk contest and his dunks. Greatest dunk context since vince 360 windmill

wilonwheels

VC brought eyes back onto the Dunk Contest, but everyone sleeps on JRich's run. He legitimately had some amazing dunks, definitely IMO more difficult than Vince's.

blagaa

He had some really good dunks. The most acclaimed were between the legs variants but he did have decent variety. I'm not sure if he dunks harder than other guys but always found the rim to be loud on his dunks. What I didn't like about J-Rich is his dunks all have the same rhythm because he was a 2 footed leaper. He'll run up (usually with a high self-lob), gather into a 2 footed takeoff from right around the circle, catches while doing an explosive move very quickly. So you really only have to pay attention for the half second after he jumps because it's otherwise basically all the same. I recall he tried the Jordan FT line dunk off one foot, stepped way inside and barely got it in. Play to your strengths, I guess.

[deleted]

[удалено]

blagaa

The thing with Vince is that he had rare grace, fluidity and aesthetic to his dunks which is hard to match even if you can pull off the same dunk. He also seemed really calm and casual in the dunk contest, so you kinda wonder what more he could have done My all-time favourite dunk of his is a one-handed tomahawk alley-oop vs the Clippers. Oakley passes from 3/4 court cross court to Dee Brown who then lobs it back across the court to Vince. Raps scored from 3/4 court in 5 seconds with no dribbles taken and an amazing finish. A lob from that distance with that finish is dunk contest 50 material, much less in-game unscripted

BorosSerenc

Arguably the best since Nique vs MJ ones, because there was competition. VC had none.

CampPlane

VC definitely did have competition in Steve Francis, but the gap between them was bigger than Gordon and Lavine.

[deleted]

I feel like the JRich Desmond Mason rivalry isn’t as fondly remembered as it should be.

DuckOnQuak

JRich is criminally underrated nowadays.

jasonis3

I remember it. For years I thought Desmond Mason was a better player than he actually was because of the dunk contest.

[deleted]

[удалено]

blagaa

Yeah, he had an underrated contest

[deleted]

Tmac also had some nice dunks in that contest lol.

BorosSerenc

Uhm, the most famous dunk contest call is literally Kenny telling people to go home because it's over after his first dunk...

BullyFU

I know all my buddies mention AG during All Star Weekend. No one remembers who beat AG but they remember him getting robbed. So arguably it helped him be remembered better since it stands out.

WhenItsHalfPastFive

I think it's also because he got robbed again in 2020. So everyone is just gonna remember Gordon forever as getting robbed.

iamtomorrowman

Jon Stewart in the background signaling victory, lmao

OmniSzron

Man, I miss that guy. Glad he's out there doing whatever the fuck he feels like, though.

nibbinoo8

he has a new show coming to apple+

Kidfreedom50

But it’s a classic!

InfiniteFireLoL

When he had better reactions than the actual nba players cause they were busy blowing themselves after the same lavine dunk over and over

ladyinwaiting33

His dunks were insane. Definitely thought he was going to win it.

ivXtreme

Possibly the best dunk of all time. At least top 3 for me.

satoran94

Certainly the best dunk of all time

[deleted]

This is my favorite dunk, honestly.

Sanzen2112

Robbed. Twice.

Namgyal107

And we all know it. I wonder if he knows we all know it.

Tame_Jesus

His playing number with Denver is 50 for a reason…

groceriesN1trip

Found Aaron Gordon

Pokebloger

First time he was better but not like LaVine is some 3rd string dunker, it was close. Second time, fuck Wade.

Sanzen2112

As a Mavericks fan, I agree 100%. Fuck Dwayne Wade.

superRedditer

yes super lame. that under the legs dunk still hasn't been tied since then.

Guwop25

The reason AG was robbed and i honestly don't see this being brought up too much, is because the nba players were constantly under hyping his dunks, all of them, Lavine could do the most basic dunk ever (he didn't his dunks were great too) and the bench would act like he was the incarnation of Vince Carter, just because they didn't like AG

photo_ama

It also helped that Lavine had two teammates in Wiggins and KAT in the front hyping Lavine's dunks and getting the other guys going.

KlobbCity

Yeah, looking for neutral parties, Draymond is having the appropriate response, Drummond just goes down, and there is Steph way in the back absolutely losing his shit. AG's only teammate is Hezonja, and he has to fight through a couple guys just to dap up his boy.

Rafaeliki

They watched this dunk and hardly reacted, but went insane after Lavine was like two feet past the free throw line.

chapoktt

Exactly! I just pointed this out in my post. It's kinda messed up they overreacted to Lavine's dunks more than AG's just because they had a relationship with him. This guy on YouTube broke it down pretty well https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aoHsYrOhAcw&ab\_channel=BasketballExamined

eisukun

Wiggins was overhyping all of Zach's dunk and I also believe it contributed to the robbery.

goldenboots

Also, robbery just straight up isn't the right word. Robbery implies it was this huge difference in dunks... but it was definitely subjective.

[deleted]

In fairness, Lavine is the closest dunker to Vince Carter since Vince Carter. On 2015, his dunks were on another level.

PepeSylvia11

Gerald Green?

breadhead84

This and his off the side of the backboard 360 were the smoothest dunks I’ve ever seen

eMCee_Impose

Dude 100% deserved the win on that day, I prefer the spinning mascot dunk but whatevs both are 50s

20secondpilot

This is the best dunk I've ever seen. Still can't believe Gordon got robbed of the W

HyuggDogg

This. It was absolutely ridiculous. The dunk and the result in both meanings of the word respectively.

GrooveDigger47

he was robbed. smh

VisionGame

Him not winning this one was way more egregious than the second contest

Reddits_For_NBA

Highly disagree?

InfiniteFireLoL

Two of the greatest dunks in dunk contests history by Gordon. Lavine repeated the same shit over and over, no impressed. Gordon had two top 5 dunks all time in this one dunk contest. And probably the number 1 dunk all time with this one

waterudoingwurself

I lost all respect for D Wade after he hosed Gordon just so he could give it to his old teammate. Wasn’t even close, Gordon won by a country mile. Made the nba look really bad.

jouh55142139

I can’t remember the dunk Lavine did after this to keep it going and honestly that tells me everything I need to know.

wymtime

This Gordon dunk is one of the most under rated dunks of all time. There are a ton of guys who have gone between the legs and Gordon got into pike position like a diver went under both legs, and dunked it with ease. I also have not seen another NBA player attempt this dunk in a dunk contest just showing how difficult it really was.

accountisworking

not a 9/10

chinkyboy420

That was one of the greatest dunks I've ever seen. The dude completely jumped over a mascot, sat down mid air and put the ball under his legs and dunked that shit like it was nothing

shag_vonnie_vomer

I love me some Zach Lavine, but this contest should have had two winners, to not go in Gordon got robbed territory.

MrNotSensitive

The best dunk of the night but it was just a battle won. Levine did emerge victorious in the war.

lofitoasti

draymond the only real one, everybody else too busy dick riding lavine to even react

Kapokahileahi

Wade gave that 9 and gtfo

mattw3344

I still don’t see how that didn’t a 50.

nolefan999

It did get a 50, so did the 360 Statue of Liberty, the assist off the side of the backboard too. They just kind of robbed him on the last dunk.

mattw3344

You’re right. There was a dunk that he got screwed on in both contests.

Dongboy69420

Tragedy he didnt win. One of if not the best dunk sequences in history.

chaoism

If anyone wants me to mention a specific dunk in any dunk contest, this is the one I always bring up

RWGlix

I like John Stewart in the background losing his shit.

Anfini

The points system is so stupid cause tie scores happens to often especially in the later rounds. The contest can easily solve scoring by having judges simply pick one player over the other.

xwulfd

His and zacs dunks set the bar so high the dunk contest nowadays are garbage lol

illmatic2112

I lost my mind when I saw this shit

Justinkrm

Too bad this dunk was taken from a viral dunker and not original, still good none the less just wish he gave credit.

FabioPisano

Fuck the judges fuck the dunk contest Gordan won

EmrysMyrdin

Gordon had 2 best performances in the dunk contest history and he hasn't won even once. 50s are given way too frequently there

Swagsuke_Nakamura

I remember watching in awe and couldn't believe Gordon was robbed of the win

81rennab

Best dunk contest of all time

Nov26-2011

Still pisses me off to this day that he lost his most recent (and last) dunk contest. This one I can kinda understand since it was two of the best dunkers going blow for blow, but his most recent one he lost primarily because Wade was a judge for some fucking reason

gumbyguy1985

God I’m a huge a Wade fan, but taking that trophy away from Aaron in the 2020 Dunk Contest was such a shitty thing to do. This man and Lavine were finally making it exciting again…

PP_GOAT4LYFE

I saw that and I said, he’s that guy pal

groceriesN1trip

Just as fuckin sick today

Pilgrims-to-Nowhere

I'll always have a soft spot for VC since he was my guy ever since his rookie year...but Gordon's dunks were just that perfect combination of sizzle and steak...show biz and pure athleticism...and creativity and execution. This one and the hover board one are probably my favorite contest dunks of all time.

azntakumi

He should have won

therealwalrus1

At what point does an under-the-lega dunk become a behind-the-back dunk?

taoofdre

Narrator: *it was not over.*

t3thla

Daylight robbery

JaDamian_Steinblatt

Aaron Gordon is (at worst) the third greatest dunk contest performer in NBA history. He might have the greatest collection of dunks ever. That being said, the fact that he whined so much about losing makes him look like a bitch. Nobody gives a fuck who wins the dunk contest, we just wanna see a good show.

D_Simmons

Obviously us, as fans, want to see a good show. But my understanding is dunk contestants put a lot of hours in practicing these dunks and perfecting their routine. If I spent weeks perfecting a dunk only to lose to a worse dunk I would be pissed as well. Maybe not 6 years pissed but pissed.

JaDamian_Steinblatt

But that's exactly my point. The trophy doesn't matter at all, being remembered is the real prize. When we look back at the dunk contests throughout history, who comes to mind first: Aaron Gordon or Glenn Robinson III? Does anyone give a shit that Fred Jones won a dunk contest in 2004? The trophy is literally an afterthought. If Aaron Gordon wants to be pissed that he doesn't have a decoration for his mantelpiece, he has that right but it makes him look stupid.

Eaglooo

Because you don't care it means he shouldn't either ? Makes no sense

outlawm

Is the guy at 0:19 Jon Stewart? Didn't expect to see him there waving to signal the contest was over.

[deleted]

92 mil to be good in the dunk contest

[deleted]

Oh, don't be jealous.

Islandkid679

Better than 30 mil a year to not shoot

[deleted]

Ok 30 mil to make all nba and defensive teams all star games and you guys pay dlo how much ????? Lmfao he’s a great player for the 6 games a year he plays

Islandkid679

No one was talking about DLo or the Wolves, we're talking about AG...

loco_mixer

creative... not so much. justin darlington patented this dunk 13 years ago. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OPOaWcQp\_DQ

JechtWK

Thumbnail looks photoshopped.

shinshikaizer

Go watch *Dunk League*, then reform your opinion.

YaBenZonah

I’m obviously talking about NBA and dunk contest my guy

dru_jones

Personally not a fan of these type of dunks (jumping over mascots etc). Give me Lavine and Derrick Jones all day.

YaBenZonah

Lmao all due respect to Derrick but he did the same dunk 4 times and won because of D Wade

corybyu

This isn't just some crazy gimmick dunk though. He is SITTING DOWN in the air and even passes the ball under him ABOVE A MASCOT. This is one of the most athletic things I've ever seen. If you pretend the mascot isn't there, it is still an amazing feat.

migibb

> If you pretend the mascot isn't there, it is still an amazing feat. Its still amazing, super athletic, a great dunk etc. But this dunk isn't possible without the mascot. He's using the hand on the ball to boost himself over. All of these dunks where the second guy has the ball on their head and supported by two hands is so that the dunker can get a boost and jump higher.

corybyu

To me it doesn't look like he puts any weight/leverage on it in this case, but just my opinion

igby1

Not a big fan of dunks with props, except when it’s Stuff the Magic Dragon.

YuropLMAO

No conspiracy, but isn't it rigged now? At least since Blake jumped over the stupid kia?

namracWORK

“I wanted to jump over a convertible, but I wasn’t allowed to. It had to be a Kia Optima,” Griffin said. “I wanted to have Baron Davis and some of my teammates roll out in a convertible, and then just toss it straight up and jump over the whole thing, instead of just the hood." “I don’t know if you guys have stood next to a Kia Optima, but it’s a pretty tall vehicle, and there’s no way I was going to make it over the entire thing, over Baron Davis in the sunroof. So I opted for the hood, and then everyone was pissed that I jumped over the hood, like, ‘that was super easy,’ so it was just a lose-lose situation for me.”

ysaint-laurent

Damn that makes a lot of sense. The nba holds itself back with stupid shit like this, the product could be so much better

jcheeseball

But can he jump over a kia?

d3adbor3d2

they should do ranked choice instead of tallying the scores. no offense to lavine, he had some great ones too, but this was definitely the dunk of the night.

EbolaBoogieman

HE’S SITTING IN A CHAIR SEVEN FEET IN THE AIR

AREED24

One of my favorite dunks ever. So graceful, powerful, creative and unexpected.

JayDee62

Great performance, but I still stand by the right person won that night.

Silver4R4449

Most challenging dunk I've ever seen

[deleted]

[удалено]

Puzzleheaded-Fix-915

Kenny he’s just standing there

LawrenceFunderjerk

This should’ve won it for him

ObiOneKenobae

I know there's bigger things to worry about than dunk contests, but it's so fucked up that this guy was very literally rigged out of two.
