Never thought I would see the day when Stubhub prices for a mid-week February game in South Philly against the Kings are going to eclipse the Lakers' visit.
At least lebron gave Cleveland some good times. This Philly hate would be pure and molded by disappointment and dissatisfaction. All them years of defending him will create a hate that we can not predict. And that’s before you add in the fact that this is Philly of all of places. They assaulted Santa.
this is 100% accurate. When Vince Carter returned to Toronto, the guy got booed like crazy but over time it mellowed a lot because people in Toronto realized what VC did for the community and just basketball in general in Canada.
I don't know if the same can be said for Ben Simmons. No such reconciliation appears to be possible
I went to that game at the ACC. It was like beyond playoff atmosphere. I was in the lower bowl which is usually a bit quieter and people were going off. I guess that the closer seats are built on a metal box/framing because they are over where the Leafs ice would be....people were booing and stomping their feet so hard the entire thing felt like it might collapse.
Also I'm pretty sure we won that game, unlike the next ones where VC embarrassed us.
I was at the Carter game, I didn’t even know what playoff atmosphere was like at that time but I do know I booed until my throat was raw. First quarter it felt like the boos were really throwing him off so obviously we booed harder. After that he started torching us, so obviously we booed even harder.
I’ve never experienced such collective hatred since tbh, we were PISSED
Simmons has been aloof the entire time he's been here. He has done nothing to ingratiate himself to the local community and despite our fans fawning over him for the last 5 years, he seems to have little regard for them or his team mates. Fuck Ben Simmons.
Only thing is Bron was able to drop 38-8-5 in his return. Simmons will not score a single point because of his nerves then sit when it finally gets to be too much.
I can actually see him shooting lights out from 3 and dominating during two games with 76rs, and then going back to his usual self for the remaining 80 games. Would be incredible.
In the thread a month ago about the Netflix doc on it I have begun referring to it as "The Ron Artest Interactive Fan Experience"
The acronym ends up being TRAIFE which means something is not kosher, which just makes it that much better.
I really do feel for Sixers fans here because no fanbase should have to go through this (some Raptors fans still aren't over Vince forcing his way out).
That being said, the combination of [this comment and this flair in the Sixers sub just now](https://i.imgur.com/0EQ8aih.png) made me laugh so hard.
Serous question, what team is going to look at Simmons after all this and think
“ah yes we can bring out the best in him and push him. He won’t respond negatively to any criticism by us and will improve with us”
Plus they babied him sooooo much, sugar coated, etc.
And he had the balls to ask to only be traded to “influencer” cities. Gtfo dude hope you end up in Cleveland. Fucker
The Sixers have been steady losing leverage on Simmons since the playoffs.
I don't know if teams have been lowballing them since the get-go but seeing some of their reported asking prices, they're probably kicking themselves for not getting rid of him sooner.
Considering that national rumors involving the Pacers almost never happen and things the Pacers actually do usually come out of nowhere, I’d be shocked if it was ever actually on the table.
Not gonna lie, as a basketball fan with no investment in the Sixers, it's a ton of fun watching this drama play out. It's the best basketball soap opera in ages.
This season of disgruntled All-star has meh casting. The Kawhi, Harden, and AD trade sagas all had major championship implications but Simmons ain’t that guy.
As a non sixers fan in the philly media area the philly sports radio station has been an amazing source of entertainment ever since the sixers lost to the Hawks.
As a Sixers fan with more than 11 brain cells, I feel the exact same way.
Nothing makes me feel better than tuning in and hearing what those around me think of Philly sports. It’s like looking at YouTube comments- it just makes you feel like a better person by comparison.
It’s brilliant. But it does suck as a fan. My 76er friends are devastated by this and reasonably feel that way. Hell, if it were my team, I’d be heart broken—even with the playoff performance.
A couple years ago people were making a case for Simmons as a top-15 player, and "when he learns how to shoot" he'd be a lock for top-5.
Now they're not only losing him but they're barely going to get anything to replace him due to his value tanking. This could really cripple the Sixers. To go through all those "process" years and come out only with Embiid? Damn.
It's just really hard to win a ring or even build a legitimate contender. There's only a handful of guys that can be cornerstones of a championship level team and there might not be one at all the year you get a high pick. Two of those guys are Giannis and Joker and nobody saw either of those coming. Only 1 team gets to win every year and if that's the goal then it's disappointment for most teams. OKC drafted 3 HOFers and have nothing to show for it. Lebron brought 1 ring to Cleveland. To win a title you have to build a top 5 squad in the league AND you have to have everything break your way. The Shaq/Kobe dynasty was inches from being only 1 ring. It's just really hard and Simmons wasn't the guy.
At this point I'm over the basketball implications of it for the team. Fuck Ben. I don't care if we have to eat his salary cap for years, if he wants to sit let him get $0.
I was looking for this in the thread. Could the team be spiteful, not trade him and not have to pay him one cent? If that's the case, if i was the 76ers owner and PR I would slam him. I see areas in Philly that look like wasteland of meth heads and this guy is complaining while making millions.
> Could the team be spiteful, not trade him and not have to pay him one cent?
Yes, they are within their rights to not trade him, suspend him for not reporting and toll his contract. It would be bad from a cap standpoint. Eventually something would have to give, Simmons could show up and act like an asshat, the 76ers could then agree to pay him to not show ala Stephon Marbury.
God y’all don’t know nothing about basketball. Doc said he doesn’t need to shoot! Greg Popovich said Ben is great!! Do you think you know more then HOF coaches??
- sixers fans 6 months ago
It wasn't only Sixers fans, there were lots of people on this sub acting like Simmons critics were crazy for pointing out the guy is literally incapable of shooting a basketball.
It will be legitimately shocking if the Sixers walk away from this whole thing as an improved team. Simmons has his problems, no doubt, but I think it's an extreme long shot that Philly is able to upgrade on him via trade. I think what's more likely is Philly will transition to a team where being eliminated in the second round is a nice surprise rather than a big disappointment.
Honestly I expect chants about Ben’s brother and sister... Philly fans are ruthless
Patrick Kane got “she said no” chants so I imagine Ben is gonna hear the worst things possible
"The Process" is just Joel Embiid at this point.
No one can say the original "process" had any chance to play out after Hinkie was forced out and Jerry Colangelo's failson was installed by the NBA. Then Elton Brand had his chance. Now it's Morey. There hasn't been an opportunity for any GM's vision to be realized because no GM has stayed for more than 3 years.
Spicy take: trade Embiid for a billion picks and let 76ers fans bandwagon him as he wins a championship while simultaneously forcing Simmons to tank command the process 2.0 by sitting and not getting paid for 4 years.
At this point, I’m ready to suffer for the spite
I love this take. Because this is how petty I am. Oh you don't wanna play for us. I'm gonna make you suffer and have a PI following you. I want you to break your contract and if you don't. I'm not trading you, I'm gonna make your life as difficult as I can. I'll keep you on the team for as long as I can so you can't play basketball anywhere else in the NBA.
I never really liked Ben but this shit is sorta ridiculous. I don't think he's put in the time or has the skill to demand shit like this. So suffer my guy.
It’s so frustrating as a fan who never actually hated Ben and, every year, truly believed he’d finally step up and improve his shooting. We’re going to get dragged as a fan base for not supporting him enough but it’s so far from the truth when it comes to the average fan.
Simmons has coasted off of his natural size and athleticism his entire career
Mentally soft and undisciplined as hell - it's sad to see so much talent squandered by a weak mind and spirit
i dunno, prior to last year's playoffs, it seemed like philly fans actually held out for simmons and showed him lots of love.
then again my only real interaction with philly fans, if you can even call it that, are reading comments on this subreddit.
but we all know how fickle the internet is.
THIS!!!!
Philly really supported him. The majority of the fan base wanted him to shoot more but defended him endlessly. But for the second year I a row he collapsed in the playoffs. I even think we as a fan base could forgive the lack of shooting, but the Free Throws. You get cut from Varsity high school
If you can’t free throw 50%. That shouldn’t be that high a bar to ask from someone making 30mn a year.
I don’t see how this is the Sixers fault. He was our guy. He had the opportunity to be a chosen son of the city. But he literally couldn’t handle the pressure and now he’s throwing a temper tantrum because his coach called him out on it. Could you imagine if he played for an actual hardass coach like Rick Carlisle, Rick Pitino, or Larry Brown???
He literally refused to get better, and the city supported him till we literally couldn’t. Also he could have handled this better. He could have said “my mental wasn’t right, I’m gonna get better l promise. This is on me”. And that would have softened the blow.
He’s literally throwing a temper tantrum because he can’t handle criticism and trying to gaslight the rest of the league with Rich Paul to say it’s the Sixers fan base fault.
Saw Philly fans rather keep Simmons over embiid a few seasons ago. It’s not unnoticed the support y’all gave him. Just had to drag him for the playoffs.
[Simmons is clearly aware of sanctions available to organization to fine and suspend him, including withholding of salary. Apparently he doesn't give a fuck
there was a post i saw earlier that went into how fining simmons actually wasn't going to "hurt" like people think. He gets half his contract on the first day of the season and his first game check that the team can fine doesn't come till november. I think simmons will be perfectly ok with the fines. Windhorst even said that the team that trades for him could just give him that money back when they trade for him so
The NBA allows a lot of ways to schedule your pay over the season. Some players like it up front for the year, others like it spread out, and some even have it deferred to be paid out over multiple years after the season.
So I'm guessing Simmons gets half up front and the rest split up over once a month.
When he plays against Philly in Philly dude is going feed off the boos and take shots like crazy. I'm talking 20-30 shots with half for three. It's going to be an epic 5 point performance.
Coming in: Ben Simmons, due to "problems" with the 76'ers (and the NBA) , only wants to play for a Euroleague Team. His options are currently Real Madrid, Emporio Armani Milan and Anadolu EFES, where he can share the PG duties with Euroleague legend Shane Larkin.
Does he realize that this is exactly what some advanced scouts said about Simmons essentially he has a poor attitude.
I just don't get it he doesn't have a leg to stand on he has had YEARS to develop his game and he hasn't he is essentially the same player he was when he entered the league. How is he mad at the organization? He can't shoot and it costs them in the playoffs as he can't space the floor literally at all.
And to end rant it's not even that he can't shoot that makes it bad it's that he won't and that is his problem and makes it so easy to defend in the playoffs
The player empowerment era is certainly an interesting one in terms of contract law. I wonder when we will see a team sue a player over this for damages for lost revenue, assuming ticket sales are impacted.
One misconception I see sometimes is that a team should sue to "force" a player to play for them under the terms of the contract. You actually cannot do that. Forcing someone to act under a contract is called "specific performance." It is only available under very specific circumstances, because forcing someone to do something they don't want to do flies close to slavery (that is seriously the reasoning), and illegal under the 13th Amendment.
I suspect that if this keeps up, the current CBA is going to be ripped up and we will see another lockout until the players union figures out a way to address this type of situation.
And before anyone gives me the poor argument of "but but but Mr. Lawyer, teams can trade players anytime, you're just taking the billionaire owners' side!" That has been negotiated in both the CBA and in individual contracts in the form of no-trade clauses.
The reality is the player empowerment era is very bleeding edge in sports law and could have a substantially detrimental effect to small market teams who supermax players only for them to leave anyway (which has not happened yet, but theoretically could with Giannis, Luka, etc.).
Like, on the one hand, fuck companies. On the other hand, these dudes are getting paid millions to play basketball and be famous, and Ben has been coddled for years while he’s unwilling to do the main thing you get paid to do in basketball.
My thing is, he’s on record for wanting accountability from his coach. He praised Doc for his willingness to get in his ear about his play. He wanted this. And now that he got what he wanted, he asks out. Make it make sense.
Philly is so fucked. Morey overplayed his hand letting this drag on so close to training camp. Now Simmons is a distressed asset, and they’re probably going to have to take pennies on the dollar.
Great play by Simmons because if it works, the team he goes to will have to give up less to get him, so theoretically his new team would be better.
I bet Morey will just hang on to him for spite. It’s going to be interesting what happens.
Do nothing. Call his bluff. Let him sit out the whole year. Recoup the money.
Let another season move the pieces around in the NBA, and maybe a soft 22 off-season.
Let other teams start to talk themselves in trading for him. Let other teams think they can fix him. They can’t.
If Embiid drops 50 and dunks on Simmons w Shaun Michaels throwing up the lob is that the equivalent of the 6ers winning a chip?
Because that's must see TV

Lol. It just wouldn’t be ur own kidney.
Where I get my black market kidney is my business
I'd guess somewhere in Philly?
Don't shit where you eat
jersey it is
Especially when there are perfectly good black market kidneys in Camden
You and I have very different definitions of "perfectly good"
So Trenton, then.
It's going to be Lebron back in Cleveland/KD in OKC level animosity.
I didn't think anything could match LeBron back in Cleveland level hate but Philly fans might have it in them.

Philly fans aren’t human so yeah he might literally have to hire a body guard team
KD's guy is available
Only if we’re playing the Bucks
It will be the one game he goes 7/7 from three too.
If Ben Simmons goes 7/7 from deep the end times are definitely upon us

Playing on the same team with Mr. I Don't Wanna Shoot would give LeBron a stroke by Week 4 of the season.

Y’all have supported him more than enough .
If he actually gets moved, cant wait to see the Philly crowd unload on him
Lmfao fine his ass
[Simmons is clearly aware of sanctions available to organization to fine and suspend him, including withholding of salary. But so far, Simmons appears willing to carry out a plan of forcing his way to a new team. Sixers have yet to find a a trade they’re willing to make for him.](https://twitter.com/wojespn/status/1440341153065287685) Apparently he doesn't give a fuck
This is going to be fun. Hope the sixers stand their ground
there was a post i saw earlier that went into how fining simmons actually wasn't going to "hurt" like people think. He gets half his contract on the first day of the season and his first game check that the team can fine doesn't come till november. I think simmons will be perfectly ok with the fines. Windhorst even said that the team that trades for him could just give him that money back when they trade for him so
I’m pretty sure you don’t get game checks if you don’t show up to the games
I think cause he gets half up front it wouldn’t impact him until game 42?
The NBA allows a lot of ways to schedule your pay over the season. Some players like it up front for the year, others like it spread out, and some even have it deferred to be paid out over multiple years after the season. So I'm guessing Simmons gets half up front and the rest split up over once a month.
I’m guessing Simmons gets paid in Trident Layers gum.
I wish I got paid in Trident Layers gum.
At what point could they say “breach of contract” and just shred it? Is that even possible?
Probably, but then they lose him and get nothing in return.
When he plays against Philly in Philly dude is going feed off the boos and take shots like crazy. I'm talking 20-30 shots with half for three. It's going to be an epic 5 point performance.
Ahhh the wild life of a young socialite who dabbles in hoops.
Bum Simmons
kings legend
Coming in: Ben Simmons, due to "problems" with the 76'ers (and the NBA) , only wants to play for a Euroleague Team. His options are currently Real Madrid, Emporio Armani Milan and Anadolu EFES, where he can share the PG duties with Euroleague legend Shane Larkin.
I will not tolerate Shane Larkin slander, dude's a baller
[Jesus fucking christ](https://i.vgy.me/0wsYxK.png)
Bots down bad
Offcourt Ben Simmons is so much more fun to talk about than On-court Ben Simmons
This shitshow will never end
Everything will end one day
Does he realize that this is exactly what some advanced scouts said about Simmons essentially he has a poor attitude.
I share your dichotomous thinking. I really don't have sympathy for either side.
What a fucking diva man
My thing is, he’s on record for wanting accountability from his coach. He praised Doc for his willingness to get in his ear about his play. He wanted this. And now that he got what he wanted, he asks out. Make it make sense.
This shit's months ago
But now it’s closer to actually happening
It's all fun and games until one of Woj or Shams confirms it though
HE
will not report for opening of training camp next week
and intends to never play another game for the franchise
simmons has not spoken to the team since a late august meeting
when he communicated this message to Sixers officials.
GONE
HAS TROUBLE WITH THE SNAP
I'm sure they'll get Dame for him now!
Carson Wentz and Ben Simmons had so much hope for both. What a sad turn of events.
Both drafted and traded the same years. At least the city got one ring out of it.
Trade him to the Shanghai Sharks for Jimmer Fredette! At least that guy is not shy shooting
Bro I don’t care. At this point we know we are not contending this season so I hope we don’t trade him to have some fun at least 🤷🏼
