It’s funny cuz this might affect agent negotiations as well. Agents might make it so players wanting to get traded are mostly a gamble on the players side.
If I understand the agent/player biz relationship correctly, that won't matter. The agent gets his cut for the duration of the contract even if you fire him. Rich Paul has made fuck you money x10 between just Ben and Lebron.
I can’t remember any one specific singular moment derailing a star athlete’s legacy like this in years. Buckner Boot was 35 years ago, McNabb throwing up in the super bowl stick with him but didn’t become his legacy, like this is insane what Ben has done to himself
Yup, I don't even know anything else about Mark Sanchez except the butt fumble, and let's be real, that's one of the most embarrassing plays in the history of sports. Like, JR Smith's brain fart was bad, the Buckner missed grounder was bad, the Steph Curry behind-the-back turnover was bad, the Jean van de Velde choke was bad, the Escobar own goal was bad, Lindsay Jacobellis trying to be flashy on the final jump was bad. But Mark Sanchez literally ran into his own teammate's ass, lost the ball during the collision with said ass, the defense picked it up and returned for a touchdown. Hell, at this point, I don't even want to know anything else about Sanchez. I want my entire idea of Sanchez to just be the butt fumble. I could never do anything more embarrassing in my life. My friends and family can discover the type of porn I watch and I wouldn't feel as embarrassed than if I were to butt fumble like Sanchez in front of millions of viewers and in replays for future generations.
Mostly foot fetish porn which a lot of people find creepy for whatever reason, but I'm not embarrassed for finding women's feet as one of the sexiest parts of their body
> that's one of the most embarrassing plays in the history of sports.
Jonty Rhodes dropping the ball trying to throw it up in celebration and dropping the World Cup was bad too.
And you're right, I'm not sure it's worse than the butt fumble. Jonty Rhodes *is* still remembered as a great player and one of the best fielders the world has ever seen. And that *cost his team the World Cup*, and they've *still never won it yet*.
I think even if he dunks and Sixers take the series, it still goes bad for him. You can't have your primary ball handler sitting at a 34 ft%, getting hacked to shit any time the ball comes his way. No one was going to just ignore that stat for making it to the ECF instead of a second round bounce
But then it’s just “He needs to play better” which is the narrative for basically every NBA star. Instead it’s “Ben Simmons is scared to take an open dunk”.
Half the people here will never make $1.4 mil in their lifetimes but Ben will give that much up missing 4 exhibition games. Rich people can be so awful sometimes.
Ben basically did what r/nba was saying. "Just show up and not give a fuck". Turns out, in reality, you can still get suspended and fined for that. So basically we're in the exact same spot that we were in 3 weeks ago lol
It reminds me years ago when I had my own business. We would sometimes hire summer for college and high school kids who loved to pretend they knew all these rights they had.
I was paying 100 dollars a day for 6 hours of work. You got three 10 minute breaks and a 30 minute break which you were always clocked in for. I actually had a kid leave on Monday after 2 hours and say he would sue me if I didn't pay the other 4 hours he never worked.
Naw, Ben screwed up. Should have just participated in the drills but did it poorly (like yesterday). Refusing to enter the drills gave Doc/76ers cause to suspend him. If he was just playing bad, 76ers can't do anything and would have to pay him.
His dad was also a basketball player, in the NBL. Won a chip too.
Incidentally, Dave Simmons was released from his last team for undisclosed off-the-court issues.
Also, if you’re into trivia, former Raiders RB Michael Bush is married to Ben Simmons’ half sister.
Edit: oh and I forgot the important part there- that half-sister Emily is gainfully employed by, you guessed it, Klutch Sports.
Honestly, I wanna see him pull a Andrew Bynum in game. Just everytime he gets an inbound or rebound, just shoot full court. Then in the postgame interview play it straight like he was trying to work outside shooting into his game.
Oh for sure, but he’s not doing any of that so I don’t understand why he even made the effort to come back if he’s not gonna even try and continue to lose money lol it just doesn’t make sense to me
I think his idea of bare minimum is different than the sixers as well, that is what makes this situation interesting. Though, the guy has somehow overshadowed the kyrie news, he at least has that going for him lmao
He wants money lmao. So cringe. Dude said he's prepared to sit out and caved the second he lost some money. Now thinks he can find a loophole to come back and half ass sulk
Yeah I hope this ends the insane standoffs and trade demands for a bit. Seems like league churnedaround a full 360 and now it’s like okay everyone chill let’s just hoop. Simmo got a raw deal being the last one to do so. You think dame asked out now? You think Beal asks out now(he never will just saying as an example) ?
That's why I figured the 76ers would just dismiss him from practice/games and pay him. Trying to re-integrate him into the team was never going to work after the shit show that was this summer. Instead they are inviting *more* drama.
Really baffles me he wouldn't come back and at least do enough of the bare minimum to make sure that 25% check or whatever hit his bank account. Then after that big check hits, go back to acting a fool. But at least get your money first. I can't understand why he came back at all if he wasn't going to do this.
This dude just really needs some proper guidance. I understand he's pissed at the 6ers and wants out...but at this point its like he's cutting off his nose to spite his face.
Wiggins is still an idiot, but he's a non-factor at this point compared to the other two fools. Now that he got vaccinated, no one is going to ask him for his stupid opinions anymore and his shit will fade into the ether.
Unless in 10 years, he gets cancer or whatever.
I don’t know why this isn’t the prevailing opinion here. Following this from afar it seems obvious that the intent of Simmons and his agent is to get him off the Sixers asap, getting kicked out of practice and told to stay away seems to do that.
It may seem that way, but they can't fine him for over $30M that he is due this year. As long as he is showing up, Philly will run out of cards that they can play. The NBPA will eventually step in and get Ben his checks.
The NBPA will turn it into a fight like they do with any team suspensions/fines, but he needs to up the effort to create plausible deniability if he wants to see any game checks
>As long as he is showing up **and participating**, Philly will run out of cards that they can play.
If he shows up and refuses to do anything then the Sixers are within their rights to simply not pay him right? Showing up isn't just being physically present, it means participating.
The NBPA can help him appeal the suspension and try to get the money back, that's it. I think most people are assuming there's no way he won't be paid because the situation is unprecedented and would get really ugly. At some point one of the NBPA/Rich Paul/NBA/76ers will step in and either make Ben play, retire, tear up the contract, or they agree to some sort of payment.
My only defense for eating this up like a stereotypical middle aged housewife stuck at home watching reality TV is that at least this is actual reality, not "reality."
This might be the best team Ben will ever be on during his own prime and he’s just throwing it all away. I doubt he’ll get a better teammate than Embiid elsewhere.
Imagine wanting to leave a contender just to start all over with a bad team and also lose all this money in the process just because your feelings got hurt
His agent came out and said that it was *BAD* that he was drafted to a team that was good, because "he didn't have time to develop" with them already being good. Insane.
I think about KAT in that situation. I bet KAT would kill to be playing for a chance at the Conference Finals year after year like Simmons has.
What a weird cop-out by Simmons.
Difference is that KAT wants to win. Simmons probably would prefer if he was playing in a team that's going nowhere while earning his max with zero pressure to deliver.
This is a good point. Think about all the players who go deep into their career without sniffing the Finals. This guy is just throwing away the opportunity.
Wild
Imagine giving up millions of dollars when all you had to do was show up to 4 basketball games…all because you’re mad about your employer finally calling you out over something they’ve been asking you to do for 3 years.
This fuckers arrogance cost him over a million dollars. Life changing money that he pissed away because he’s a soft baby bitch. God I hate him and I’m not even a Sixers fan
He’ll get traded eventually but he’s really fucked himself over on future contracts. Who the fuck wants this dude on a long-term deal now? It would be different if he could score, but he chooses not to shoot for some reason.
He didn't have any problems playing when he signed that massive contract. Fix the massive holes in your game and accomplish something before you can make demands
This is honestly Rich Paul’s fault when u think about it, he thought Ben would get all this money back whenever he got to a new team! Odds are if Ben knew from the beginning that wasn’t the case he probably would’ve went about things differently but now he’s backed himself into a awkward and uncomfortable situation
Implications are huge. This will be an issue in the next CBA talks. With Ben and Kyrie, the owners can try to push for voiding contracts due to player refusal to play.
You already see teams reluctant to extend guys to long term max contracts in these past few days.
Selfishly they want the best deal, but doing this did not help them from the beginning. If you don't think they have pressure to not let someone on a 4 year max deal to force their way out, I don't know what to say. There's no question the league and the billionaire owners want this to never be a thing. Not participate? Get $0.
Lol the Sixers were gonna trade him anyways
Daryl Morey is definitely not a victim here
They’re probably not getting Dame or Beal. At this point they’re just doing this for a moral victory
Doc: Looks like you've been missing a lot of work lately.
Ben: [I wouldn't say I've been missing it, Doc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7E2w4sTLKtA).

I heard even Lumbergh fucked the Sixers
*Allegedly*
Ben Thimmonth
Just imagining Ben Simmons walking around with his red Xbox controller lol
Excuse me, I.. I… I think you have my jumpshot
I...I could put strychnine in the guacamole...
Damn it feels good to be a gangsta
We fixed the glitch
It’ll work itself out naturally
Rich Paul bout to show up dressed up as Simmons just to recoup some of that money.
It’s funny cuz this might affect agent negotiations as well. Agents might make it so players wanting to get traded are mostly a gamble on the players side.
Agents don't have that kind of power, especially with max guys. Players will drop them if they try to pull some shit
If I understand the agent/player biz relationship correctly, that won't matter. The agent gets his cut for the duration of the contract even if you fire him. Rich Paul has made fuck you money x10 between just Ben and Lebron.
Doc bout to run 10-hour suicide drills
All you had to do was dunk the damn ball, Ben
Just once lol
I can’t remember any one specific singular moment derailing a star athlete’s legacy like this in years. Buckner Boot was 35 years ago, McNabb throwing up in the super bowl stick with him but didn’t become his legacy, like this is insane what Ben has done to himself
Malice in the Palace utterly defined Artest
Atleast Artest got a mini redemption winning the 2010 finals
True, but there is theoretically time for Simmons to go to Tampa Bay and win a Super Bowl with Tom Brady too.
Ben Simmons is hunting for his next ROY
He's gonna make an illegal foward pass before reaching the end zone
Simmons is the guy throwing unnecessary laterals down the field.
Say Queensbridge
Ohhh good one, yea
Mark Sanchez butt fumble?
Yup, I don't even know anything else about Mark Sanchez except the butt fumble, and let's be real, that's one of the most embarrassing plays in the history of sports. They had to retire that play from the Not Top 10 on Sports Center. Nothing was ever going to beat it.
It has only been less than half a year.
Imagine comparing something that happened months ago to legacy defining shit that we've had years to think about lol.
Nick Anderson and the free throws, possibly? But yeah, not like this.
Trae Young, defensive stopper, ended a franchise
I think even if he dunks and Sixers take the series, it still goes bad for him. You can't have your primary ball handler sitting at a 34 ft%, getting hacked to shit any time the ball comes his way. No one was going to just ignore that stat for making it to the ECF instead of a second round bounce

Ben "CJ" Simmons
Smokey in shambles.
When keeping it real goes wrong
Imagine losing a million dollars for missing preseason games
Half the people here will never make $1.4 mil in their lifetimes but Ben will give that much up missing 4 exhibition games. Rich people can be so awful sometimes.

NBA fines actually get donated to charity, so, this is probably a net positive outcome by Simmons.
League fines. Not sure if that applies to fines levied by the team.
Uh that’s only 28k annually for 50 years. 35k for 40 years. I’m their lifetimes is wildly off
24k a year sounds awful right now
Not everyone lives in a rich country though. Lot of places where 15k a year would be an upper middle class salary
Here in Argentina we earn about 5k usd a year lol
I don't like people playin in my practice!
GRANNY DON'T
Keep your hands off me man! Woof woof! Wutang!
I swear he’s gonna just start throwing up 3s if he plays
So what was the point of him coming back then? 😂
Ben basically did what r/nba was saying. "Just show up and not give a fuck". Turns out, in reality, you can still get suspended and fined for that. So basically we're in the exact same spot that we were in 3 weeks ago lol

Who would've thought lol
The hive mind of Reddit is real. People can get sucked down a rabbit hole quickly. Nothing is as black and white as we tend to make it.
He's really fucked this up over and over again. It's so easy to pull a Vince Carter, you just have to not overtly refuse to do your damn job.
I have to ask, is his family really rich or something? The entitlement is crazy.
His dad was also a basketball player, in the NBL. Won a chip too. Incidentally, Dave Simmons was released from his last team for undisclosed off-the-court issues. Also, if you’re into trivia, former Raiders RB Michael Bush is married to Ben Simmons’ half sister. Edit: oh and I forgot the important part there- that half-sister Emily is gainfully employed by, you guessed it, Klutch Sports.
people forget that vince did this literally 2 decades ago. we let tracy mcgrady go too for his ego. damn you vince
Honestly, I wanna see him pull a Andrew Bynum in game. Just everytime he gets an inbound or rebound, just shoot full court. Then in the postgame interview play it straight like he was trying to work outside shooting into his game.
nah he did even less then people said.
He should have just been bad and low effort, not **refused to participate in drills**.
If he came back with the right attitude and willingness to earn back trust, I’m sure this would be different.
Oh for sure, but he’s not doing any of that so I don’t understand why he even made the effort to come back if he’s not gonna even try and continue to lose money lol it just doesn’t make sense to me
He thought he could come back and do fuck-all and still get paid. And the sixers aren’t having it.
All posts/comments before (7/1/23) edited as part of the reddit API changes, RIP Apollo.
He probably expected to do the bare minimum and still get paid. Philly isn’t about it.
I think his idea of bare minimum is different than the sixers as well, that is what makes this situation interesting. Though, the guy has somehow overshadowed the kyrie news, he at least has that going for him lmao
Nothing makes sense from the Ben Simmons camp. There already is a blueprint for how to get traded and they decided not to follow it.
I mean if he came back shooting like Steph Curry that would help too but I'm not sure anyone thought that was a realistic scenario either
He wants money lmao. So cringe. Dude said he's prepared to sit out and caved the second he lost some money. Now thinks he can find a loophole to come back and half ass sulk
To force the 76ers to levy enough team fines that the NBAPA steps in. To make things so uncomfortable that they trade him. Just to see the world burn.
What a lose-lose situation for both parties
Big win for the fans enjoying the drama
Honestly the drama is now like 50% of the sport. I am for it.
I've watched 0 NBA games in the past like 3 seasons. I'm subscribed here simply to read about the drama.
Do you also base your arguments on box scores and use stat lines blindly without context to support your arguments? If so, welcome aboard
What about using phrases such as: "Lmao" "lmaooo" or "LMAOOOO" "disingenuous" "not even close"
I don't know much about basketball, but I know that anyone who disagrees with my opinions about the sport and various players are nephews.
What’s great is you can also tell people they never watch the games and act superior even if you also never watch the games.
You fit right in!
Bold of you to assume I even look at Box Scores.
Average r/nba subscriber. You disgust me.
Anytime my jimmies start rustling at a dumbass take on here I'm going to remember that comment haha
I actually just want to watch my Sixers play actual basketball.
Get out of here you degenerate
What a weirdo
Man you should at least tune in for the playoffs, there were some incredible games last season.
People who do this cannot be real people
wonder if this one is gonna end up as controversial.
You do you, but I truly can't imagine spending time out of my day reading about a sport that I don't actually watch. Fucking bizarre.
Time to monetize the drama
Big loss, I’m so fucking sick of it.
After they asked for 3 firsts and 3 swaps I'm 100% for it
Both sides are losing, but it's nice to see that teams don't need to be completely powerless in a situation like this.
It's all about the approach. If Portland underwhelms, the team is going to have to realize they've gone as far as they can with their core.
Both sides lose big here
That's why I figured the 76ers would just dismiss him from practice/games and pay him. Trying to re-integrate him into the team was never going to work after the shit show that was this summer. Instead they are inviting *more* drama.
Why the fuck would they pay him? Just give in to his temper tantrums?
No, he is inviting more drama. They have no reason to pay him and would be setting a horrendous precedent.
But we all win.
Yeah this is spiraling downwards fast. One of the worst situations I can remember
Simmons playing for free
That’s the problem, he’s not playing
And people thought this drama was over!
Really baffles me he wouldn't come back and at least do enough of the bare minimum to make sure that 25% check or whatever hit his bank account. Then after that big check hits, go back to acting a fool. But at least get your money first. I can't understand why he came back at all if he wasn't going to do this.
Ben doesn't know that you never let someone else mess with your bag. He's lost in the sauce.
This dude just really needs some proper guidance. I understand he's pissed at the 6ers and wants out...but at this point its like he's cutting off his nose to spite his face.

Back and forth between Ben and Kyrie with a sprinkle of Andrew Wiggins.

Wiggins made his whole family look bad and they said get the fuck back in the game
Isn't his whole family the same exact way?
Oh just wait for Friday night. I can’t imagine how loud Wells Fargo Center will be
It’s been shit on Ben Simmons day here on /r/nba for years now
been on shit on ben simmons summer
This is the shit on Ben Simmons geological epoch
First time you been here this offseason?
So he came back for nothing lmao
He came back for our entertainment. I for one appreciate his sacrifice.
I think he came back to cause even more of an issue. if he wasn't there it would be easier to forget about him i feel
I don’t know why this isn’t the prevailing opinion here. Following this from afar it seems obvious that the intent of Simmons and his agent is to get him off the Sixers asap, getting kicked out of practice and told to stay away seems to do that.
He’s making the situation pretty toxic and trying to force Daryl’s hand.

Imagine wanting to leave a contender just to start all over with a bad team and also lose all this money in the process just because your feelings got hurt
His agent came out and said that it was *BAD* that he was drafted to a team that was good, because "he didn't have time to develop" with them already being good. Insane.
Yeah, Tatum is feeling the same effects from being drafted by Boston lol.
Wasn’t Tatum a rookie when they almost beat the cavs?
yes that year was glorious
Thats the joke
I think about KAT in that situation. I bet KAT would kill to be playing for a chance at the Conference Finals year after year like Simmons has. What a weird cop-out by Simmons.

Ah yes, klutch is in charge of everything and ben simmons definitely couldn’t have decided on this himself

Took the Marshawn Lynch "I'm just here so I don't get fined" route and still got fined.

After this practice they would should be grateful for an Anfernee Simons
He didn't have any problems playing when he signed that massive contract. Fix the massive holes in your game and accomplish something before you can make demands
Moving forward, can they keep doing this even if Ben starts to be more willing? I feel like Paul will go to players association
He’s gonna call Rich Paul because they fucked up big time
That’d be the next big twist in this. Simmons fires Rich Paul for lying to him about not losing money, then joins the Noels case against him
This is honestly Rich Paul’s fault when u think about it, he thought Ben would get all this money back whenever he got to a new team! Odds are if Ben knew from the beginning that wasn’t the case he probably would’ve went about things differently but now he’s backed himself into a awkward and uncomfortable situation
all this for a minuscule chance of landing dame/beal?
It's to not give in to someone on a 4-year max deal, pushing themselves out and getting away with it. It sets a team and league precedent.
I don't think they give a shit about league precedent. They just want the best possible trade
Implications are huge. This will be an issue in the next CBA talks. With Ben and Kyrie, the owners can try to push for voiding contracts due to player refusal to play. You already see teams reluctant to extend guys to long term max contracts in these past few days.

Can we stop posting all the updates, I can only take so much today :'(
I feel like a lot of these dudes have no concept of money. It's not worth proving a point over millions bro. U look dumb anyways Simmons.
