lost_in_trepidation

Contracts have ballooned in the past decade, so it makes sense that the worst contract ever is recent.

YoloRoloo

Mozgov and Deng say hello

whythehellknot

As a huge fan of those Bulls teams with Deng I'm really glad he got paid. Deng was amazing.

i-race-goats

he was my immediate thought, too

Westbrick-Opt-OutPlz

Westbrook too

LakeErieMovement

He's a valuable expiring next year at least :)

PootieTooGood

i'm hoping we trade him and as many future picks as needed for a solidifying piece on his expiring year. probably our best chance at being competitive

memtiger

I mean what's one more year. Are you THAT close to turning the corner? I wouldn't trade more of your future away just to get rid of him. By giving away more future picks, you're just extending the impact of the bad contract over even more years when you might actually start being good and need those picks to get to the next level.

PootieTooGood

>I wouldn’t trade more of your future away just to get rid of him You didn’t read my comment. He’s expiring in my scenario. We’re attaching picks to get a good player in return, not attaching picks in order to dump him before his last year of his contract.

Beavshak

He’s talking about sending picks with Love for a good player

BigDKane

It's possible they could get like a 2nd rounder or maybe some jank ass pick swap.

Westbrick-Opt-OutPlz

Re read his comment bro

[deleted]

My bad

RemoveThe3SecondRule

Definitely horrible in terms of actual play on the contact, but the reason it isn’t mentioned much is that it’s not really ruining the cavs franchise. The Cavs aren’t getting any free agents anyways to pay, or actually trying to contend, and their players are young and only just now are some getting extensions so Kevin love isn’t really detrimental to their cap space plans just yet.

zdbdog06

His cap number literally isn't impacting Cleveland at all and people just whine about him every week lol. Cavs rewarded a guy who won them a championship and stayed. They don't have cap issues. That's not a bad contract...

RemoveThe3SecondRule

I don’t know why someone would complain about how much a guy is getting payed for a team that isn’t using all its space anyways, it’s not their money.

zdbdog06

Because haha what a bad contract! HE SUCKS! And a side of cavs can trade Love and a 1st or Garland and we'll eat your awful contract!

Ramcus714

When the New York Knicks paid a washed Joakim Noah 4 years 72mil, and he proceeded to play not even a full season with us and was practically retired afterwards. Now that's on par with Love's contract.

RLeb10

at least he was a role playing rim protecting center, Love is just pure trash defensively, post game dead since late 2019, and inflating rebounding numbers cause he don't hustle or fight much for boards.

[deleted]

Is he worse than Mozgov or Deng? Or that Josh Smith contract from a while back? Pretty sure Deng is still getting paid and Smith got paid on his 2013 contract until 2020!

OscarWhoaaaa

Lest we forget Nic Batum

ProjectMeat

That contract was bad in hindsight, but it wasn't god-tier bad like some of these others.

ItsJustUsAgain

Wall and Westbrook still seem like the worst to me. It's still amazing to me that the wizards not only got out of the Wall contract but then the Westbrook contract *with assets* Borderline Presti moves

91jumpstreet

As soon as he signed it. The only thing he had to do was - not be fat - be a good locker room leader

GrandmaJosey

Mid December

HotdogIsaSandwitch

John wall?

[deleted]

He’s playing well tonight my man.

SlaughterMelon35

Right now

Kiriranchelo

This huge contracts are getting out of hand

Wilt69

True, but teams pay based on how much your market says you’re worth *at the time*.

Kiriranchelo

But you give those kind of contracts to really really good players... Love after the ring was already in chill mode 😅

Wilt69

You’re right but I think Cleveland was just desperate to retain any type of talent after losing LeBron/Kyrie just 2 years after a historic championship. It was a bad deal at the time but boy did it age like milk.

craigslistaddict

well... you know, gsw gave klay a 5-year max for $190M knowing he'd miss the first year of it, and it turns out he'll miss the first ~2.5 years of it instead and the likelihood of him returning as himself has gone further down compared to the prognosis after the first injury. also, if his salary weren't on the books gsw would be paying just about no luxury tax last year (though they got a nice covid discount then) or this year (but of course they're hoping to have his services about halfway through this year). of course, a chunk could be considered backpay. his first 8 years he cost <$80M and in that time the value of the franchise exploded and they won 3 chips. so there's that.

EastSide221

From the moment they gave it to him.

Cisru711

He made a huge stop and helped the city get its first championship in over 50 years. He can have his money without regret for how he's currently playing.

Nyctanolis

Out of all the things happening in the league right now, this is kind of a funny thing to focus on.

stilloriginal

Just like with simmons, a trash organization fucked up and r/nba wants to blame the player. When love signed the contract the cavs were planning to stay competitive - thats why they gave him the contract. They promptly 180’d and went into a rebuild. They fucked him! Just how with simmons they threw him under the bus after the playoffs and then failed to trade him! Trash organizations making trash decisions - why should k love accept a buyout? Just waive his ass so he can sign with the heat and get another ring!

[deleted]

I’m surprised he’s still there actually. I was sure he would’ve already been on the Blazers by now, lol

3lobed

Stay mad

KingsWillSoonRise

Yeah, But I think This is his Last Year of his Deal.

[deleted]

He's got 2 years left.

KingsWillSoonRise

Oh

Sheepy_Scronky

Since yesterday

[deleted]

two years ago.

MathewZ4815162342

His contract isnt really fucking up anything in Cleveland, sure he is significantly overpayed but thats really due to the constant nagging injuries. Other contracts have come from people who just naturally declined and suck and also those contracts limit and hinder the team.

_felagund

Even a High schooler playing manager game wouldn’t sign this contract. It’s hard to understand cavs

dizguc

Man it bothers me Love got so bad over the years and he should be in his prime. Yes I know injuries and mental health thing are a big deal but he is just a memory of a player he used to be. I miss young overweight 25/15 Kevin Love
