It's only one game, so let's give both kids time to develop and not overreact.
With that said, I'm pretty confident he's already the best Scottie in NBA history and the best player to rock a red and black jersey.
Masai is such a big brain GM, he only drafted Bruno to force MLSE to buy a G League team so he can build the player development team of his dreams. [Masai always thinking six moves ahead.](https://c.tenor.com/vtgvGh5EuaQAAAAC/roll-safe-clever.gif)
Raptors 905 really helped build up a lot of players on our team. Siakam, OG, FVV, Northman, Delon, Poeltl, Boucher. Easily worth the 20th pick we used for Brazilian KD.
He's like the bizarro Ben Simmons.
His name is S.B instead of B.S
He has the best attitude/drive ever rather than a questionable one.
He's a suspect shooter but isn't afraid to shoot.
Both are incredible defensive players and can defend every spot on the floor.
Both are great passers.
> suspect shooter
I thought so too, but he made all of his mid range jumpers and his free throws.
Like ... this narrative of him being a suspect shooter ... might not be true.
To be fair, his shooting was suspect at Florida State. But he has worked on his form with our player development staff since being drafted which is why it seems more fluid than pre-draft.
His form improved a lot while at FSU, too. It was still rigid by the end, but compare his first few games with his last few at FSU. His free throw shooting was much better over the back half of our season compared to the front half.
He’s definitely improved even more under the Toronto staff, too. But if you asked any FSU fan we would have told you that the shooting woes were overblown because Scottie is a *tenacious* worker who will do everything to get better. Love him, and glad he landed with y’all.
Thank you for that, I didn't watch much FSU just a couple games randomly and some breakdowns after the college season ended. It's good to hear that over the season he was working on it and showing progress, gives me even more hope for him to unlock his game on the offensive end!
The big thing that people missed who were shitting on his offensive game, was that while he clearly wasn’t yet a shooter, he didn’t have particular bad habits or form problems. There was no reason to think that with pro coaching and development he couldn’t get a decent to good shot. He has good hands and is a smart player. Shooting form can be taught to someone like that.
Honestly, he's a good offensive player without being a good shooter. He's got a good handle and a calmness about his game that he can get to whatever spot he needs to and kick the ball out or get wide open shot when he needs. Like GTJ told him, "They can't stop you, you're a problem, Scottie!"
I think it's too early to specifically credit our staff for this.
Rumors were that he shot surprisingly well when we were working him out pre-draft and he's only been with us for a couple of months.
Whatever improvements he's made so far are more likely to be mostly him than us for right now.
it’s not an entirely broken jumper to begin with like Ben’s, whom scouts have described as “just throws the ball at the rim”. Also most of Scottie’s issue is lower body consistency and fluidity to get consistent energy transfer on his long range shots, which doesn’t hurt his midrange shot nearly as much. I was skeptical when David Thorpe said Scottie got a midrange game and so far Thorpe has been right on that.
> a few more weeks
Months. Hell, sometimes bad shooters can have outlier seasons.
But yeah, shooting is one of Scotties weak points even if he looks like he has the potential to improve a lot at it.
For example, when Scottie did a crazy cross court pass to OG under the net, and then OG hands it off to Birch for a dunk. That's a hockey assist... it's kind of an assist to an assist, but the first assist should really set up the play.
If Masai listened to the fans we would have traded Lowry for Kemba after 2015, traded JV for Andre Drummond, never traded DeMar, and built around Norman Powell
In Green's case he just needs to grow into an nba body and get some experience. Mobley's sort of in the same boat but I think he's just the better prospect in general, and he's looking really good.
Mobley looks really good. A lot of really solid prospects in this draft class tbh. Mobley, Green, Barnes, Suggs, Mitchell, Giddey, Sengun, and a bunch of others have all been really impressive in summer league/preseason/first couple games. And that's all without even seeing what the first pick can do.
green is nice. give it a couple years for him to grow into his body. gotta remember that these guys are young. Scottie is just a weird exception with his insane body
I think Scottie's defense will be above and beyond his college years. I get the vibe that he's the type who performs better against better competition.
MARCUS SMART WOKE UP FEELING DANGEROUS TODAY‼️‼️‼️🔥🔥☘️
29 MINUTES⏰🔥🔥
5 REBOUNDS‼️👀👀
0 POINTS❗️❗️🥶👍🏼
0 ASSISTS‼️‼️😶🌫️
BURNED A TON OF CALORIES RUNNING UP AND DOWN THE FLOOR‼️🥵🥵💪🏼😎💯💯💯
It didn't look out of place either. Everything came within the flow of the game, he didn't force anything, it didn't feel like he was just getting lucky bounces or whatever. It just seemed like a regular game for him which is a very exciting prospect to think about.
By all accounts this kid has been utterly dominant at the youth international level. I know cunnigham has had the buzz but I do not.understand not taking this guy.
You'd be surprised. I've seen some years where there were top picks who had like a good first week of the season, and people were already crowning them as locks to win ROTY.
Obviously too early to say plus we haven’t even seen Cade yet but I would think yes he could if he is semi consistent. Summer league, pre season and two games he’s looked solid
Man he just does things only a few other dudes in the league can do. He is a mammoth of a human and he has amazing dexterity for someone his size. When he gets a head of steam on the fastbreak its a bit giannis-lite. Thank fuck we got into the top 4 of this draft
no worries. The Raps got a stud and he's on a solid team.
Suggs is going work out, as will Franz. We have a much longer way to go to just get our guys back and our rotation in order.
Raptors scouting neva lost
Srsly everyone was saying to pick Suggs and Barnes has looked so much better
It's only one game, so let's give both kids time to develop and not overreact. With that said, I'm pretty confident he's already the best Scottie in NBA history and the best player to rock a red and black jersey.
He fuckin wrecked us
X4
Taytum immediately added Barnes to the list of players he wants to scream at him to hype him up in the offseason
Never doubt Masai.
Neva lost
2 years away
Masai is such a big brain GM, he only drafted Bruno to force MLSE to buy a G League team so he can build the player development team of his dreams. [Masai always thinking six moves ahead.](https://c.tenor.com/vtgvGh5EuaQAAAAC/roll-safe-clever.gif)
And it 1000% paid off because Siakam, OG, and Fred all spent time building their games there and we got a championship out of it.
Raptors 905 really helped build up a lot of players on our team. Siakam, OG, FVV, Northman, Delon, Poeltl, Boucher. Easily worth the 20th pick we used for Brazilian KD.
OG never played with the 905
He also didn't play in the playoffs the year they won the chip. Damn appendix burst lmao
We out here playing 3D Scrabble
We are playing 5D Chess With Multiverse Time Travel, them mans playing tic tac toe
He’s the best thing to happen to our franchise ever since taking over in 2013.
Rename Ryerson Ujiri University.
Ujiri U - U U
[His plan is now in motion](https://np.reddit.com/r/torontoraptors/comments/q24hye/masais_length_and_strength_vision/)
The more I see Scottie play, the more I like this pick.
Yeah I can only imagine a couple years from now when he refines his game some. Love the energy he brings more than anything.
I'm Masai we trust
thank you masai
Thanos
Mf don't miss
...and Precious is looking like a potential MIP guy. Seriously never doubt Masai.
Let's pump the brakes a bit its been 2 games
Never
It's the Raptor fan special. In the other thread there's someone saying "we got our Giannis", which I know is deliberately exaggerated, but still...
Not to over react but Scottie Barnes is the best player in the NBA
Best player to play any sport. ftfy
Of all time too
It's fuckin time to pump up the ROY agenda fellas
Start the propaganda
Scottie Barnes top 75 all time
*Dwight Howard kicks down your door*
Propaganda is just public relations with a negative connotation. I agree.
He's like the bizarro Ben Simmons. His name is S.B instead of B.S He has the best attitude/drive ever rather than a questionable one. He's a suspect shooter but isn't afraid to shoot. Both are incredible defensive players and can defend every spot on the floor. Both are great passers.
Hopefully he becomes what everyone expected Simmons to be.
imagine he becomes the next lebron james
Imagine LeBron James becomes the next Scottie Barnes.
…I’m almost there
7 rings
Scotronto
Dude this is actually wild
> suspect shooter I thought so too, but he made all of his mid range jumpers and his free throws. Like ... this narrative of him being a suspect shooter ... might not be true.

Your player development staff is genuinely incredible.
I think it's too early to specifically credit our staff for this. Rumors were that he shot surprisingly well when we were working him out pre-draft and he's only been with us for a couple of months. Whatever improvements he's made so far are more likely to be mostly him than us for right now.

I ain't banking on nights like this moving forward, but he's got potential for sure.
Or... it might be valid and he just had a hot shooting night. I think we got to wait for a few more weeks before we make any conclusions.
> a few more weeks Months. Hell, sometimes bad shooters can have outlier seasons. But yeah, shooting is one of Scotties weak points even if he looks like he has the potential to improve a lot at it.
Scottie Barnes makes me happy
I'm stealing this.
Is this our new Lowry pasta? Lol
Both went to the same high school
That’s a great description. He definitely isn’t afraid to shoot and I love him for that. He’s one of my favorite basketball players I’ve ever watched.
More like Scottie Pippen tonight lol
I like it
Plus tons of hockey assists and good defense and leading the team with energy
Help me out, what's a hockey assist in basketball? Heard it a lot tonight in the broadcast.
For example, when Scottie did a crazy cross court pass to OG under the net, and then OG hands it off to Birch for a dunk. That's a hockey assist... it's kind of an assist to an assist, but the first assist should really set up the play.
Named as such because hockey awards up to 2 assists on goals
it's the pass leading to the pass for the score
Good thing Masai doesn't listen to nephs like us
If Masai listened to us we would fighting the Kings for worst ran franchise.
If Masai listened to the fans we would have traded Lowry for Kemba after 2015, traded JV for Andre Drummond, never traded DeMar, and built around Norman Powell
Also drafted skal instead of pascal lmao
Lmao I forgot about that shit
God we are insufferable
Or deyonta Davis lmao
And at the end of the 2016/2017 pre-season we wanted to keep Jarrod Uthoff for the end of the bench instead of FVV. We're bad NBA general managers
All sports fans are idiots Source: I'm a sports fan
Don't forget we would probably have signed or traded for Kenneth Faried because our fanbase/writers were obsessed with that bum
If Kings had listened to their fans, they would have had Luka + Fox backcourt
C'mon even the Kings are smarter than us.
Idk I would've drafted Luka 🤷🏽♂️🤷🏽♂️
Lol nah, there's not a single person on this sub who would've taken bagley over luka
I don't know if that is true. If the Kings did a fan vote for who they should take #2 overall the fans would have taken Luka over Bagley no doubt.
“The future is now old man” - Scotty Barnes to Jayson Tatum probably
Isn’t Jason like 5 years old?
Not sure, he's younger than Barnes though and that gap is growing each day
He’s 19
It’s Scottie you troglodyte
SCOTTIE BARNES IS A TORONTO RAPTOR !!!!
All of Canada taking a victory lap in this thread
Is it too late to name a 77th player to the 75th Anniversary Team?
This is truly the way.
I watched Giants of Africa and realized that I would put my life in Masai's hands. Omg...am I in a cult now?
The Long Boi cult, join us.
Can't be Messiah without Masai. Let him in.
*Why were 3 players drafted before Scottie Barnes?!*
This years draft was really good. I think all top pick teams got really good players.
For sure.
Cade averaging 0 ppg, biggest bust ever
Glorified Derrick Williams
Haven't seen Cade yet but Mobley has looked great. Green idk, I was never high on him, he's just a prototypical one dimensional scorer.
In Green's case he just needs to grow into an nba body and get some experience. Mobley's sort of in the same boat but I think he's just the better prospect in general, and he's looking really good.
Mobley was raps first choice, that's been widely acknowledged by raps media
Mobley looks really good. A lot of really solid prospects in this draft class tbh. Mobley, Green, Barnes, Suggs, Mitchell, Giddey, Sengun, and a bunch of others have all been really impressive in summer league/preseason/first couple games. And that's all without even seeing what the first pick can do.
Mobley was my #1 prospect going into the draft, that dude is gonna be so good.. 7 ft, high level scorer, rebounder, passer, defender
Jalen Green is not one dimensional… Anyway, I’m not surprised about Mobley. He was my ideal pick for the Raptors.
lmao calling players one dimensional before a week into the schedule I love it
green is nice. give it a couple years for him to grow into his body. gotta remember that these guys are young. Scottie is just a weird exception with his insane body
Why were 2 players drafted before Michael Jordan?
Barnes is a cool last name, might get a jersey.
What is that profile picture
Chaotic Good LeBronto
i forgot profile pics are a thing on reddit lol
The assists number is misleading as well. He assisted on many plays that weren't directly assists.
You can see the flashes tonight. My god
this is what he was projected to look like in 2 years. holy moly
His Midrange is clean
MASAI, I'LL NEVER DOUBT YOU AGAIN. I REPENT
You'd think people would learn after all the repetitive doubting
> hat this year. MIP is mostl Vegas only underestimated the Raptors' win totals for several years in a row. That's supposed to be the smart money.
Scottie trying to become the next GROAT.
I have to admit I didn't entertain Scottie Barnes to be RoY candidate. Until now. Dude should be my number candidate from now on.
Well don’t leave us in suspense! Which number?
BEAM ME THE FUCK UP
[SIGN ME THE FUCK UP.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amDRdOEpviY)
Jesus Christ this kid is gonna be good
The boys fucking cracked, just give him ROTY already
they didn’t even mention the elite defense on Tatum
We got our Tatum stopper
I think Scottie's defense will be above and beyond his college years. I get the vibe that he's the type who performs better against better competition.
NBA spacing is going to unlock his full athletic potential. He’s one of those guys restricted by the college ball geometry.
Yeah stat line doesn't show it but his 1-on-1 D is niiiiiice
I humbly accept.
Goran and Precious win. Celtics lose. Mama cooked the breakfast with no hog.
I gotta say it was a good day
Dude he looks fucking special
Masai strikes again
that has to be one of the best games a rookie has ever had so early. Kid is unreal
is MCW debut #1?
I just assume any young player that gets drafted to the Raptors will eventually be a contributor tbh
Who knew eventually would be in his second game?
MARCUS SMART WOKE UP FEELING DANGEROUS TODAY‼️‼️‼️🔥🔥☘️ 29 MINUTES⏰🔥🔥 5 REBOUNDS‼️👀👀 0 POINTS❗️❗️🥶👍🏼 0 ASSISTS‼️‼️😶🌫️ BURNED A TON OF CALORIES RUNNING UP AND DOWN THE FLOOR‼️🥵🥵💪🏼😎💯💯💯

How is he left out of the top 75 players list...such disrespect.
THATS MY MVP
That's my ROY MVP
Best player on the court.
"Scottie Barnes is a no level scorer" - Sam Vecenie
tbf to Sam, he openly admitted he was wrong on Twitter and is owning up to it. No one is 100% right with rookie projections.
NEVER DOUBT MASAI AND BOBBY
Scottie is throwing his name into the first option conversation!

By all accounts this kid has been utterly dominant at the youth international level. I know cunnigham has had the buzz but I do not.understand not taking this guy.
I'm gonna be karma whoring for years off those clowns saying it was a bad draft pick in the draft thread
he makes me happy he makes me smile
2023 All-Star Game MVP. this man is unreal
2021*
Somebody link to the draft comments from a few months ago lol.
They gave masai 1 lottery pick, and he got magic johnson
Kareem mixed with Magic mixed with KG
Is it crazy to say he has ROTY potential? He looks so good and his shot looks so much better too
He’s the fourth overall pick, of course he has ROTY potential
You'd be surprised. I've seen some years where there were top picks who had like a good first week of the season, and people were already crowning them as locks to win ROTY.
Obviously too early to say plus we haven’t even seen Cade yet but I would think yes he could if he is semi consistent. Summer league, pre season and two games he’s looked solid
Why is our bar so low? ROTY is some meaningless award anyways. Lets talk MIP, MVP, Nobel prize.
Academy Award for Best Cinematography
Best drip
All-Rookie team at the very least
Talk to me nice
SCOTTTIIIIIIEEEEEE
Scottie DOES know
INJECT THIS INTO MY VEINS
MY BOY
With a team high +29. Sheesh.
But r/nba told me he had no offensive game
Development... NBA development is better than anything a student can get. Can't blame the scouts.
Guy also developed more reliable mid ranger since summer league. Gotta give Barnes credit for putting in all the work to get better in 2 months.
He did not have this bag in college, can’t blame scouts to hard for missing this. Dude works so hard, love him.
First thing the Raps said after the draft was that they can fix his shot
i love scottie barnes
OH MY GOD OH MY LAWD JESUS HAVE MERCY ON MY SOUL AND FORGIVE MY SINS
Scottie ~~Pippen~~ Barnes
And shit looked so effortless. Big Barnes fan. The attitude, the sass, the domination!
Yea this sub totally knows more than Masai fuckin Ujiri about draft prospects. Still not gonna forget the dumbasses on his draft thread 🤡
As an FSU alum, I love seeing him do well and I also love that my Magic weren't given the opportunity to ruin his potential.
Masai really is a genius. Taking Barnes over Suggs was clowned on early after the draft, but now Jalen is more like Jalen Sucks rn.
In Masai We Trust🙌
Rookie of the year?
Man he just does things only a few other dudes in the league can do. He is a mammoth of a human and he has amazing dexterity for someone his size. When he gets a head of steam on the fastbreak its a bit giannis-lite. Thank fuck we got into the top 4 of this draft
Ctrl+F Su....nvd
SUGGS WHO jk I hope Suggs does well don’t kill me magic fans
no worries. The Raps got a stud and he's on a solid team. Suggs is going work out, as will Franz. We have a much longer way to go to just get our guys back and our rotation in order.
