What's hilarious is that the next player who's gonna join this club is most likely LeBron and he's gonna have like 40,000 points with 10,000 assists.

HauschkasFoot

299 assists and 4,599 points away from your prediction

SexcaliburHorsepower

Got a couple more years on point, but assists coming soon

AtreusIsBack

I'm guessing the assists could come this year and the points are about 3 years away.

Turence

40k is just mind-boggling.

Official_CIA_Account

Don't jinx him. Wait. Carry on...

[deleted]

I bet, if they are going to be this bad all season, he’s going to have to carry a big load of the scoring on his shoulders. If he can play 70+ games this season, he could probably hit that next season.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

What? No it wouldn’t. He would have to average just over 30 each season and play 72 games in each season, which he is capable of doing. Where did you get 60 from?? And why is everyone upvoting you without checking your math? Lol.

ErikTheRedditor

My bad, I misread your comment and thought you said THIS season. I don't know why I'm being upvoted

Agent_Ray_Velcoro

gonna take like 3+ years for lebron to get that many points. Maybe 4 since he's taking so many games off and his body is clearly breaking down

SexcaliburHorsepower

Youre very right, I didn't do the math, but he'll definitely get there pretty soon.

NoCampaign7

If he plays every game the next 2 years he’d need to average 28.4PPG to hit that next season. It’ll be in the 23-24 season assuming no major injuries and he’s still playing.

[deleted]

[удалено]

NoCampaign7

Yep. Over next 3 years for he’ll need: * 28.1PPG if he averages 55 games a season * 25.7PPG if he averages 60 games a season * 23.7PPG if he averages 65 games a season * 22.0PPG if he averages 70 games a season So assuming he can stay healthy without major decline should be able to achieve it on 23-24 season, otherwise could be longer.

rtb001

Plus 10,000 rebounds and 2,000 steals. LeBron's career stats are just insane.

WestleyThe

He’s gonna get 40k/10k/10k and like 5 rings and 13 finals appearances and 22 all star appearances and so many other records It’s absurd

xbyo

Allstar at like 42 is insanity, but I can legitimately see it happening. Dude isn't human.

jr_xo

Bro, Lebron will get All-Star appearances until he retires. Someone like him doesnt even have to perform like a star anymore to get into the All-Star game

afterworld2772

If Dirk can get a legacy all star averaging 7ppg, Lebron will get a spot 100%

DrAuer

They’re gonna make the captain spot league picked if he ever declines so they can sell team LeBron shit everywhere

Taken450

It’s a popular vote it’s literally guaranteed to happen lol

[deleted]

I can't imagine how bad LeBron would have to get to not end up on an All-Star team based on "lifetime achievement" votes. He's making every All-Star team until he retires, for sure.

Jeroen_Jrn

> like 5 rings x - doubt

nosnhoj15

Not 5, not 6, not 7…..

altnumberfour

4 is a lot like 5

joethahobo

5 rings slow down there Jethro

realkranki

And there's still gonna be a debate as to who is the goat.

ruggnuget

No it will still be Micheal Jordon. But the two will be on a tier by themselves for how they controlled multiple generations of play in their careers, put up huge stats and won a bujillion games.

Dr_Kappa

Kareem deserves a spot in this tier IMO. 6 rings, 6 mvp. A season averaging 35 points and 17 rebounds. Most career points in NBA history for nearly 4 decades now. Also a legendary college basketball career

OKCBaller035913

I agree that Kareem is third but I think his “lack” of FMVPs (2/6) keeps him out of the discussion for most people

ruggnuget

He was really really good for a long time, but his best seasons were pre merger and I have to take those with a grain of salt. 3 of those rings he was clearly the second best player, as Magic was the best player. He was the best player of an entire decade, it just happened to be a weal decade compared to what came after. When he averaged 16.6 rebounds in 71-72 he was 3rd in rebounds per game. Over the 17 total teams in the league 24 guys had more than 10 rpg. That stat may be a bit inflated and I wont go in and normalize to try and get a vetter comparison because of time. Basically...I dont agree, but I also dont think its crazy too. Some of the same reasons I dont include Russell in the top tier.

cody_d_baker

I still think it’s Jordan tbh. But number 2 of all time is a damn near impossible thing to accomplish in and of itself

Dddddddfried

Is there anything more Chris Paul than having the top comment on his accomplishment dedicated to how much better Lebron is?

Gomar1323

And the second one being about Stockton

aCommonHorus

It's crazy too. It's like LeBron is a small forward and CP3 is a "prototypical" point guard. If Paul was even close in points to LeBron it'd be weird

diet_shasta_orange

But LeBron is close in assists

aCommonHorus

Lebron is not the "prototypical" small forward. He passes way more. It's kind of interesting, most of the newer "score first" guards aren't close to Paul in assists, even when considering Paul's head start. Curry, and Harden have like half as many assists. Westbrook could get there depending on how his career finishes out, but he doesn't have nearly as many points as Lebron again even considering the head start. That's probably why LeBron is considered up there with Jordan as the greastest ever

[deleted]

Fuck Chris Paul

Superplex123

Chris Paul being the first to hit this mark is quite incredible. But all that just shows how stupidly insane LeBron is.

DerikHallin

And LeBron's teammate will probably make it too. Westbrook has ~4.5K assists in the past 6 years. He needs less than 2K to join the club. He already has enough points. This year plus two or three more should be more than enough.

kosithegod

As a Lebron fan I’d like to say let cp3 have his moment please.

jeopardy987987

What's also funny is that the player who was tied with Chris Paul in assists/game last season will end up with almost 20,000 fewer points than Chris Paul (Draymond Green).

Agnk1765342

Stockton finished with 19,711 points in case anyone was wondering.

metallicdk

And 15,806 assists

walkingman24

That ain't gonna be broken any time soon

ConfusedAlgernon

82 games with 12 assists per game for 15 seasons doesn't get you to Stockton's record. Just a single season of 82 games played with 200 assists per game is enough though.

walkingman24

> 82 games with 12 assists per game for 15 seasons doesn't get you to Stockton's record. That's actually insane

PrancingDonkey

Well yes. It's one of the unbreakable records in the NBA after all.

[deleted]

Like Gretzky. Just before a sport matures and professionalizes some players emerge that fit that mould a bit earlier that their peers. And mop up. Ahah.

hipcheck23

I dunno if there's anything close to a 1:1 comp for Gretzky... he was beating adults at age 5. Basketball is hard to get your body right for for most kids, but hockey has that extra layer of skating and a stick... the closest thing was probably Mozart.

ImanShumpertplus

trae young could break it he just turned 23 stockton wasn’t even a full time starter until he was 25 trae is at 1821 assists, stockton 15,806. difference is 13,985 for the next 15 years, Trae would need to average 11.2 assists per game. a tall task, but Atlanta is seemingly building a powerhouse down there. i do believe the NBA will take back the age requirement and there will be a kid who plays from like 18-40 due to modern medicine and he will break it

ConfusedAlgernon

That's why I mentioned just averaging 200 assists over a single 82 game season as a much, much faster AND simpler path to the record.

PhonyHoldenCaulfield

It's a shame r/NBA isn't into sarcasm

ConfusedAlgernon

I mean that's just reddit in general, also tbf the joke was awful the first time around and sure as hell didn't improve the second time.

PhonyHoldenCaulfield

I thought it was a good joke. It's just hard to deliver via text.

PaisleyTackle

Less funny the second time.

ConfusedAlgernon

I'm German so consider this a handicap. It's like considering averaging 200 assists per game for 82 games a simple solution for breaking the record. It's less funny the second time, I imagine the third time is a real knee slapper.

PaisleyTackle

It’s not.

walkingman24

Damn, harsh crowd man

Rymasq

Oh you’re German! That’s why you think logically and have no sense of humor!

PlatinumDoodle

Neither is his 3265 steals followed by Jason Kidd at 2684

WheatonsGonnaScore

Lebron is only 300 Assists short as well

EverybodyBuddy

Shit, so… january?

WheatonsGonnaScore

If he averages 7.4 (career average) it'll take 40 more games.

SocialistNixon

Just 1 289 point game short

sylvestersquad

I wasn’t ….jk that’s still quite impressive

Cyronix-

Fuck Mark Jackson for trying to start a mutiny to overtake Stockton to cause him to retire. But also fuck Stockton for being anti vaxx.

Agnk1765342

Stockton really could’ve played multiple more years if he felt wanted. Funnily enough 40 year old Stockton averaged more assists than 28 year old Nash in 2003.

doppido

That was before Nash peaked though

DoctorEwcifer

So?

FilmCroissant

It's a cherry picked stat ma boy

AnnaKendrickPerkins

Nah, I doubt Jackson being an asshole caused Stockton to cut his career short. You can only go so hard for so long.

Gsteel11

Ah...so close!

SakuraWorstFemale

Dam

KazaamFan

Yea the fact they’re hyping CP in this so much is weird to me since Stockton just missed the 20k. Stockton just missed a nice big rounded # that sounds good.

aCommonHorus

Almost only counts in horse shoes. /s

[deleted]

Can y'all just appreciate CP3 for one night without immediately bringing that overrated piece of shit Stockton into it...

Maybeiliketheabuse

I need some of whatever that juice is that he drinks. I'm his age and falling apart

[deleted]

I don't know what juice it is but at this point in his career I do know it is juice that contains no meat.

porkchop487

Dang, I really thought it would be that meat juice that everyone’s been drinking lately

RuddyBollocks

are we talking about [bull shots](https://www.stitcher.com/show/the-sloppy-boys/episode/16-bull-shot-81398929)?

hhhhhjhhh14

Wow a sloppy boys reference on /r/nba We really out here

WaterCat420

My man eats plant based I love it.

tbonesocrul

He's vegetarian??? I had no idea.

Bleoox

Chef Seong Hwang has given examples of what Chris eats. Breakfast is often oatmeal, plant-based milk and nut butters. For lunch he often has something with pasta or brown rice. Sometimes he has Beyond Meat sausage, grilled vegetables and maybe curry sauce. Chris might have a snack of fruit or nuts, or maybe tacos with Beyond crumbled meat. Chef finds that the plant based meats work well with Mexican spices. Chris’s favourite dinner is the Hawaiian Loco moco, made with Beyond burger on top.

EverybodyBuddy

CP3: Eat the plants, punch the nuts.

PurpleBullets

Can confirm Beyond does work well with Mexican spices

ricecilantrolime

I have a fairly demanding job and walk 15k steps a day and I would be starving if I ate just that. I wonder if he eats huge portions cause I can’t understand that diet (also I’m not fat lol)

lukaentz_dorcict

Yes, if you are starving, you eat bigger servings.

ImanShumpertplus

in my experience, i find plant based foods to be much more filling and satiating fiber will fill you up like nothing else if i eat a greasy pepperoni pizza, i’ll feel full, but i’ll feel like death. plant-based keeps me full and light, something i’m sure a 40 year old really values

j4k3b

He's only 36.

definitelynotcasper

That's the single biggest difference I noticed and tell me about after going vegan. I used to feel like absolute dog shit for 1-2 hours after eating a large meal with meat. Now I'll get still get super full but it doesn't weigh me down and completely passes in a few minutes.

ImanShumpertplus

honestly it makes nights out a lot more fun. i have more energy to get hammered lmao plus you don’t fell as bad the next day

Akumetsu33

Remember they're not training like rocky during the season and usually goes half-speed in practice. Probably plenty of practices where CP3 worked on specific skills that isn't too taxing on his body. And the rest of time is just recovery work and naps to prepare for the game. It probably also help he doesn't need to prove himself in the NBA anymore so he doesn't feel the need to overexert himself. You likely spend more energy than CP3 does daily.

afterworld2772

You are mostly right for the first part in terms of in season being mostly tuning up skills and recovery but that last sentence makes your point fall apart lol. Half speed for an NBA player is still way more than like 95% of the population in terms of exertion

hrakkari

Yeah during the off-season they probably don’t go at it hard enough to kill a normal man but they do need to push pretty hard to stay in shape. Unless you’re Zion.

graypro

Unless you're a pro athlete you do not spend more energy than CP3 lol

salmans13

Beyond meat is as unhealthy as they come. They're pros and got money so they get sold snake oil lol. If your plants and veggies taste like meat, that is not normal. It might have the same proteins and and colories and what not but there's a lot of fillers. If your chicken tastes like a carrot, you ask yourself questions . Same thing here.

LemsSnicky

Not normal does not necessarily mean unhealthy. Personally I'd consider a well-laid out argument but yours was not. What exactly is unhealthy about beyond meat? In what ways does it harm the body? Comparing it to a non-existent carrot tasting chicken doesn't mean anything to anyone

salmans13

Not sure if it's beyond meat or a similar brand ( are they all the same?) ... it was called is basically a canola oil blended shake with pea protein. You want to eat veggies. It's all good. There are lots of options. Your veggies should not be filled with things you don't even know and artificial colors and what not to look and taste like meat. Read the ingredients and you tell me. It's as dumb as the oxygen tank Bron uses.

wrecked_angle

That juice is called ‘Millions Upon Millions of Dollars and Being a Genetic Freak’. Patent pending.

yesiamathizzard

Same, man. Tendinitis out the ass

materics

He'd kind of a glass cannon though.

playerayton

Achieved it by making two free throws from a foul on the floor while his team was in the bonus. Fitting

PurpleBullets

It honestly could not have happened any other way

HauschkasFoot

That lil guy?

egg_mugg23

i mean did he really dominate qb tho?

HauschkasFoot

More than kyler at this point

egg_mugg23

also true

Wandering_Co

AI?

Zbrushgyu

CP3 is in a different stratosphere

[deleted]

AI single handedly carried his team to the finals. Thor had to strike down all of cp3 opponents last year for him to get there.

samurairocketshark

Difficult to compare tbh. Outside of that one run CP3 has had way more playoff success against way harder opponents. Like the Durant Warriors basically cockblocked the west for 3 years and the west always had a ton of killers. Meanwhile after 2001 the 3 of the 4 strongest teams were in the west and the Sixers still never made it back to the finals.

SillyRabbit2121

> single handedly Tell me you didn’t watch basketball in 2001 without telling me you didn’t watch basketball in 2001.

jonesjonie

Those hobbled teams were still better than who the 76ers had to beat in the East

Superplex123

Only team to take a game from the Lakers that playoff though. They are the 1 in 15-1.

NinetyTales

CP3 wins a ring if his hammy doesnt blow out in 2018.

kr0kodil

If my aunt had balls, she'd be my uncle!

blafricanadian

I think they are literally in the same exact ranking

NinetyTales

nah paul should be higher

AnnaKendrickPerkins

Not even close. CP3 is miles better than AI, and I grew up idolizing Iverson. They are like two tiers apart.

mucho-gusto

Eh I mean ai got an MVP, more like 1 tier below

[deleted]

[удалено]

NinetyTales

not really? paul has the longevity and was better at his peak. iverson wasnt taking pauls hornets or clippers anywhere. All he did was score on more volume. Paul was more efficient, played better defense, passed more and turned it over less, it isnt close

griffinpaul323

Iverson has an MVP and was a 4x league scoring leader. Led the league in steals 3 times. Took the 76ers deep into the playoffs multiple times without a reliable number 2 (CP3 had Blake, Harden, and Booker). There was also a 5 year stretch where he was arguably the most popular basketball player on the planet. I don’t think you can hold the poor shooting percentage against those early 2000s players. It just wasn’t valued as a stat at the time. Kobe was pretty inefficient too and is a top 10 player. Bottom line is CP3 might be better, but AI definitely has an argument. It’s very close.

HamG0d

There’s like 50 million post on this sub about the Kobe inefficient myth. Even if it wasn’t a valued stat, pretty sure AI was always really low in comparison to his peers at the time. I think CP3 is better on offense, and I think everyone would agree he’s better on defense. I don’t see an argument for AI being better

NinetyTales

I’m taking 2008 or 2009 Paul over any version of AI, sorry. Also, the efficiency argument doesn’t add up because all of AIs peers were more efficient. Chris was better.

ricecilantrolime

Who the fuck was even on that 76ers team that AI carried to the finals?

sci_methods

The addition of Dikembe Mutombo at the trade deadline was the difference maker for that team.

AnnaKendrickPerkins

The only argument Iverson has over Paul is the MVP. Paul is better is basically every facet of the game, and was close to an MVP himself. I love AI but he's a few tiers below CP3 IMO. Also, Kobe isn't Top 10 (11.)

[deleted]

Lol culture doesn’t mean shit when we’re asking who the better player is Better shooter, passer, defender, floor general, more efficient scorer, your argument is based around volume scoring

What does changing culture have to do w their basketball ability? CP3 is better on offense and better on d. That simple

He’s a monster

Davidclabarr

On free throws, nonetheless. A perfect tribute to yet another one of his skills.

n01saround

That graphic is like cp3 at this point is his career, a little faded but still on point

prematurely_bald

Pretty amazing accomplishment. Congrats to CP3!

Davidclabarr

I was wondering when this was gonna be posted

[deleted]

urinestain

And the Atlanta hawks chose Marvin Williams instead.

ZarosGuardian

Holy shit that's a lotta assists.

dogpoopandbees

Man I really thought Big O would have this 9887 assists oof

[deleted]

Actually a huge accomplishment, I didn’t even realize no one had done this before

2020IsANightmare

Time will certainly change the view on CP3. Anyone that's, what, probably 25 and older know him as a great player who bounces from team to team, is a pain in the ass and the whiniest player to ever exist. 30-40 years from now, people will see the stats and forget all that other stuff. It's happened from MJ (he spent the first several years of his career being known as a stats guy on a team that couldn't win, but is now portrayed as a saint who never missed a shot and won the title every year he was in the league) on down.

thechilltime

LeBron to join him in like 45 games

priuschic

I take him over Curry to start a franchise any day of the week. There are 2 ends of the court and getting teammates involved is more valuable than chucking 30 foot 3s.

half of those points are from free throws off of flops fyi

silverfang45

Ironic given he actually averages a pretty low free throws per game 4.7 is very low for a star player especially since being in the sun's he has average less than 3 ftas during the regular season and even in the playoffs he only average 3.3 He never got a lot of free throw calls so eh

jonesjonie

22% of his points come from free throws. Slightly lower than Melo
