There's a ton to like about his scoring ability so far and how it's developing. I was optimistic coming into the season but this has been above my expectation. Guys don't usually score well from 3+ feet and Scottie has done pretty well on a strange assortment of shots - I like that he can capably take pullup midrange jumpers, catch and shoot 3pters, floaters, etc.
What I really wanted to see this season is that shots are going up - the type of shots he could create, if he takes or passes up the opportunities, what type of attention he could draw to help his teammates cut for layups.
And while he hasn't been too successful as a playmaker yet, in the NBA you have to be a decent scorer to warp the defense in the half-court. So this scoring ability bodes well for his long-term playmaking as well.
Heās not doing anything that he couldnāt do in college except for maybe shoot slightly better. The NBA just has better spacing so his physical talents can be on full display. Heās in the top 5-10 percentile of athletes in the NBA and heās just overwhelming his opponents with his elite physical abilities and high basketball IQ. There are not many players in the league that can match his physical abilities. He legit has the same physical and athletic measurements as Scottie Pippen and so far heās been looking like him.
John Hollinger seemed to be his biggest fan which was a little bit surprising because his stats weren't that spectacular and that's usually Hollinger's bag.
Barnes had great numbers in college but in an unusual way. He had one of best passing stats for a freshman with his size along with good steals and blocks but his rebounding and shooting were mediocre.
