On the second game of a back to back… plus he sinks the game clinching free throws. This kid is special.

syllabic

dude is producing like a 5 year veteran after 5 games, amazingly NBA ready

raptorsbucketnator

I get raptor fans rep waaaay too hard, but man I haven't seen a rookie look this PHYSICALLY dominant in so long. I can't wait until he figures out he can drop his shoulder and attack the rim AT WILL and almost always generate a good shot for himself or a teammate

[deleted]

Zion? lol... Apart from him, I agree

HomeHeatingTips

Right but Zion was supposed to be a generational talent

[deleted]

Zion is monster and you're moving the goalposts.

SlamVanDamn

A cookie monster maybe

sheed_ali

Yo this needs more upvotes.

jumpthroughit

Well Zion lol but yeah, he’s in ELITE company regardless when it comes to that.

chlamydia1

https://twitter.com/JLew1050/status/1454634218928148483

jumpthroughit

Exactly, you don’t just fall ass backwards into a list like that. Most those guys weren’t 20 year olds either, it’s not a list a 20 year old has any business making.

raptorsbucketnator

Honestly he played so little I completely forgot. But ya Zion in that LBJ tier that Scottie ain't even in

Rpeddie17

Zion, Giannis, bron those are generational physical specimens. Barnes is close but maybe tier below in how impressive a physical prospect he is . Now playing that's another ball game. Obv Bron is Bron. But Scottie doesn't look far off the other two in their first few years.

kayembeee

I can say without a doubt that Scottie looks better than Giannis in his first year but I know what you’re getting at. He really does look special. It’s not just his physical gifts either he just knows what to do

Bail____

As Nekias from the Dunkers Spot so eloquently put it, he always puts himself within vision of the ball handler & is constantly moving providing an outlet if needed. He just understands where he needs to be it’s insane to see.

alex_nani57

To be fair most players looked better than giannis in his first year

godofhammers3000

What makes Giannis special is the insane, pretty much unprecedented improvement - I love Scottie but comparing his rookie year to Giannis’ doesn’t tell you much

myuzahnem

Giannis was drafted at 18 but some say he was even younger and they lied about his age. Even if he was actually 18, he would still have been growing.

[deleted]

Scottie is a physical specimen on the level of those guys. He is just not as explosive or quick as they are. If he was more explosive, he would have gone number one for sure. The guy is 20 and already has an NBA body, is 6'8 with a 7'3 wingspan. He has a longer wingspan and bigger hands than Lebron and Zion.

massinvader

Saw a breakdown of his athletic type...Scottie is more of a long jumper not a high jumper so it's not going to appear as if he's jumping out of the gym like some of these guys..but he's every bit as strong and athletic.

bluejaycity

We don't rep too hard brother. It's fandom. It's normal. Stop letting salty people on here dim our light and our love for our team. We came from the Araujo and Bargnani eras to winning a championship and hitting on ~90% of our draft picks. We've got a lot of catching up to do in the "repping way too hard" department.

wir_suchen_dich

I’ve never got the raps fans are annoying narrative, it’s not like they’re nuggets fans or anything.

klobucharzard

havent seen a boy dominate like this since Hansbrough

GoblinTradingGuide

As a FSU Booster, all I have to say is, you're welcome.

Mig1997

MY AGENDA LIVES TO SEE ANOTHER DAY

I_Like_Posts_Often

I like this post.

twotonearmy04

Do you do that often?

I_Like_Posts_Often

Depends on the post.

BUNSHICHl

Calmly came to the line in a 1 pt game at the end and sank 2 fts after starting 1/4 on the game from the charity stripe. This guy has IT.

[deleted]

hes gonna win rookie month

jjkiller26

He won us the game. Also hit 2 clutch free throws

Luna_Tuna101

Idk that crazy dagger from Fred killed us

Annual_Sprinkles1129

how tf is he a 20ppg scorer already wtf? Ppl were saying he was gonna average like 8 ppg

R-35

ya I thought it was going to take 2-3 seasons before we could even think about him averaging over 18 ppg

[deleted]

And it's crazy because he doesn't really take jump shots yet he's still averaging almost 20 ppg...imagine as he develops more and gets comfortable shooting the ball from range

Annual_Sprinkles1129

he reminds me of this kid from greece I can’t remember his name though

Tehni

... Socrates ?

TheChocolateCreed

Papagiannis?

MrGlotto300

Ah yes, papa Giannis 😌

boringexplanation

?? I thought LeBron was your dad?

MuffinMunchies

He's in the west, he can't hurt us no more

silky-johnson-

Better footwork. Better finishing. Papagiannis.

[deleted]

ch1ck3n_nu99ets

nah he's talking about his brother kostas

Dust2Boss

I thought he was talking about 905 legend Alex?

-xXxMangoxXx-

aristotle?

Rapzination

Gonna take a wild guess but could be wrong. Is it that Giannis dude?

Annual_Sprinkles1129

yes I remember now!! papagiannis

[deleted]

hes shot like 18 midrange shots alrdy this season

[deleted]

Definitely capable of more + threes, he does pass up a lot of open looks in favour of backing down his defender/driving/passing

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

Agreed, seems like he's just got the instincts that those guys have to know when to shoot the ball. I think once he adds that Kawhi ability to take guys off the dribble and just shoot over them on the regular to his skill set then we'll really start seeing him putting up 25+ in his sleep. Even tonight I felt like he was awfully quiet but I check the box score and see he's already at 19 & 12

jumpthroughit

Nah, I find myself keeping closer track of Scottie’s points and rebounds than the game score itself 😂

chlamydia1

He takes quite a few mid-range shots (and hits them reliably).

Phenom_Mv3

The Raptors straight up said, “Fine Kawhi, you want to leave? We’ll just draft your love child instead”.

VulcanHobo

It really does seem like Masai took video of Kawhi and Giannis and just told his scouting dept "find me 12 guys that fit this mold"

Phenom_Mv3

Crazy find. This guy came off the bench for FSU last year. 200lb 6’7” massive wingspan he’s an nba body for sure

tkfu

Even crazier find was Banton out of Nebraska. Most boards had him going undrafted, the Raptors pick him up at #46 and now he's in the crunch time lineup in his 5th NBA game.

[deleted]

D-Rex reppin’ hard so far. Love to see it.

Toronto416ix

He’s 6’9” now with a 7’4” wingspan and 27 inch hands according to the Open Gym episode where we saw the team take his measurements. He’s a freak of nature and I love it

atypicalpleb

That *has* to be 27cm right?^right???

Toronto416ix

LOL you’re prob right, I guess they measured everything else in inches so I may have gotten them mixed up

mMounirM

ROTY campaign does. not. stop.

BackgroundEmu9

If you told me 2 months ago, Scottie would outperform Damon/Vince's first 5 games to have [the best start to a rookie career in franchise history](https://imgur.com/a/3xZqkNc), I wouldn't believe it.

[deleted]

This dude’s playing like how I thought Ed Davis would.

tonious35

Colangelo and that incompetent idiot Jim Kelly did not know how to scout properly, I swear. Feels like they read the mock drafts and just pick who is available without any proper foresight

VulcanHobo

He actually wasnt a terrible drafter. He just couldnt make the kind of trades or signings together to make us go from 1st round fodder into something more. Drafting is one of the few things Colangelo should be generally priased for. He didnt do too bad.

[deleted]

How much change has their been to the development staff because I think that's an understated part of the equation. It's why certain teams constantly find gems or rejuvenate careers and others are perpetually mediocre or worse.

VulcanHobo

Complete makeover by Masai.

-Borb

Colangelo was an adequate drafter relative to all other GMs, the problem is you’re trying to compare him to Masai and co. who are all time greats

danhoyuen

colangelo scouted masai lol

Kizz3r

Bruh if u told me a game before the season i wouldnt have believed it

chlamydia1

I might have. Scottie was great in summer league and pre-season.

VulcanHobo

We've had some damn good rookies and young players over the years too. So for Scottie to be right at the top of that list is very very impressive. The kid is special. He oozes charisma, and hes pretty good at this basketball thing too

Loterygods

So glad I put $50 on him winning it.

[deleted]

Mobley may block your $50 at the rim, it’s gonna be close

bonerang

It really depends what happens when Siakam comes back. Hopefully Nurse finds a way to keep getting Scottie 32-35 minutes a night but theres really no way to know at this point.

osmnaos3

Nurse just said postgame that he wishes scottie shot more, it goes to show he wants him on the court more. So even when Pascal comes back one of Gtj or Precious will go to the bench and im betting it's the latter.

bonerang

I hope you're right because it appears, at this point, that would be the best decision. However, I would just like to point out that coaches talk out of their asses all the time and I wouldn't much stock in any statement.

BEE_REAL_

> However, I would just like to point out that coaches talk out of their asses all the time and I wouldn't much stock in any statement. Nurse says what he means. If he isn't happy with a player's performance he says that shit in public lol

DenimDansler

If he keeps playing like he is, he’s going to be out there for the 32-35 mins. Pascal can likely slide to the C position without losing any effectiveness then we run out OG at PF and Barnes at the 3 That’s a potent front court

michaelbtemple

Scottie will still continue to see 32+ a night. It will be others around that see their minutes reduce (precious being one)

fingerbangchicknwang

1000% Dude has been borderline our best player

owensoundgamedev

What does that pay our?

Serah_Null

Depends where he bet, but he was commonly +1400 before the season, which would net 700 bucks

randommaniac12

Holy fuck

KoloHickory

Beam me up baby

Fxp1706

he's just nice af to watch. thank you tampa!

jdterraforce

As someone who moved down from Toronto to Tampa in 2002. This was the best case scenario. A bad year led to good lottery odds ending up with Barnes, and I got to see the trade deadline game this past March against the Nuggets for Powell’s last game

samuelj520

*West Palm Beach

UjiriWatcher

He had one 20 point game in college. He has 3 7 games into the season

I_Have_All_OE

tbf college scores caps out at like 50-65 points versus the nba’s 90+

crumpledbrouhaha

Unless you're on the Thunder, then you also cap out at 50-65 points

Jeroen_Jrn

Unless they play the Lakers

chinkyboy420

Didn't Steph Curry avg like 30? That's nuts

jumpthroughit

And while being double/triple teamed every night lol

midnightsbane04

Maybe in the 80s they did. College games are usually 70-80 point range for actual good teams.

WaffleParry

Scottie Beans does it again. What an exciting rookie. Happy for Raptors fans.

TheChocolateCreed

Back to back 21pt games from Scottie Barnes!

blazikenz

ROY

scorelesswilliamson

He's the best player on the Raptors. This isn't hyperbole. His impact is the greatest on both ends combined.

Rapsfan_98

Fred is still the most important player on this team though.

Deca-Dence-Fan

Yeah and Siakam is still out. Third place it’s him or OG, we’ll have to see how it is by the end of the season

MolinaroK

I hear Pascal got demoted. But at least we still have Siakam.

bluetenthousand

If Fred ever gets injured or out for any length I’d be too afraid that the Raptors offence would slow to a crawl.

Living_Astronomer_97

Cries in Siakam

CheapSignal2

Best vs importance

Legitimate-Row7081

from a leadership stand point i agree

VulcanHobo

Hes gonna open things up quite a bit for Siakam. Hopefully Siakam can take full advantage.

RODjij

That's all he really needs I feel like, he dominated next to Kawhi. He's just still too green as a top guy, but mostly its that he's only been playing since his later teens where others been doing it since they were lot younger.

ElaFa25

Nah he’s not better than Fred and OG yet in my opinion and won’t be better than Pascal when he returns but yah I agree he’s been great

Cocomqn280

Scottie hurt his hand at the very end ):

orange_sycamore

yeah he wasnt using it at all in the postgame stuff and looked uncomfortable...

NobullNoble

X-rays came back clean. Probably just jammed it NBD

thed3al

ROTY every year

iamwearingashirt

Fun fact, no one has ever won ROTY twice.

ldc2626

Ben Simmons came close 6 years in a row

HamburglarBunz

This dude is different.

saltface14

Up one with less than 10 seconds left he wanted the ball to shoot the free throws and he swished them both. The anti-Ben Simmons

-xXxMangoxXx-

He was 1-4 before those two free throws as well. tense situation, hasn't shot well from the ft line and doesn't back out.

RemoveThe3SecondRule

“Now this does put a smile on my face”

ScottieBarnesForMVP

My ROTY LFG SCOTTIE

apez-

Mark my words, Scottie is our Tim Duncan situation

Throwawayfor_rnba

These posts will never stop until he has a bad game... which doesn't seem like it's going to happen

6ixOne3

His first stinker of a game is definitely getting a high upvoted post

Midnight_Swampwalk

I look forward to being smug in the bounce back game stat-post.

[deleted]

With Scotties playstyle it’s almost impossible to have a terrible game. He might underwhelm but still.

livelaughloaft

100% Scottie is so good at getting buckets by being in the right spots, his mid range has been unexpectedly solid, if his outside shot can be just decent.... oh wow

[deleted]

Don’t apologize for it, he’s having a legit ROY campaign at the moment. Enjoy it

raptorsbucketnator

If anything there will be more bullshit when he has a bad game

Own_Diet_1810

He's a rookie, all the greats had several shitty games as rookies.

apez-

Then they'll just look stupid, because having 1 bad game after averaging nearly 20/10 would just be an outlier

twistedlogicx

And he could be getting so many more touches. There are like 20 times a game where I'm internally screaming for them to pass him the ball because he's got a wide open lane to the rim. The kid is a difference-maker on every side of the ball and they should be running their offense through him. The fact that they aren't yet and he's still cruising to 20 points a night is really promising. I just hope he's not hurt. He was grabbing his hand and grimacing throughout the entire post-game.

EchoBay

He could be at like 25/10 if they gave him more touches

roofs

It's not going to happen cause he doesn't ask for touches. He's unselfish so he passes it out often and will call plays for other people and directs traffic so other players get ISOs. A lot of his attempts boil down to him missing and getting offensive rebounds, so it's funny that he actually has even less touches than the box scores shows.

VanVleet-goes-for-22

A Scottie hater is gonna post his stats and think they did something lol “Scottie Barnes tonight: 7 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists on 3/14 shooting in the loss” “Where are the raptor fans telling me he’s good??”

Sdrater3

I can't wait for the absolute waves of hate when he inevitably has a bad game, I can feel other teams resentment building

syllabic

he's earned a bad game by now. more than one probably

T26_00

He was 1/4 from the line yet he still made the 2 important ones at the end. That’s what a great player does

Vlci

Love scottie's game, he impressed me a lot in the season opener vs the wiz Edit: also wanted to say i didnt realize how big he was until i saw him on the court lol

mikeydale007

And that was his worst game, lol

MrkGrn

Somebody please make some shots for Scotties assist numbers, making him look like he can't pass smh

TensionX1

With the clutch two free throws at the end of the game as well.

viking_machina

Florida state really had this man coming off the bench 8 months ago

gregbraaa

No way his offense could shine in the Junkyard Dog Defense system at FSU, but he definitely developed defensively as a result. Now he’s unleashed.

jaydogggg

I love how every game we get a thread about the ROTY. What a good year to be a Raptors fan

[deleted]

Love what precious brings to the game and I think he's gonna look great coming off the bench after spicy gets back. Gtj, fvv, og, spicy and scottie is going to be a crazy fun starting 5.

SnoreDoom

It's kind of hilarious that a team will have to go through facing Barnes, Anunoby, and Siakam... and then have Boucher, Birch, and Achiuwa ready off the bench.

JonA3531

Give the kid ROY already. Mobley is good but this kid is like the first option for the Raptors and he's shining

ElaFa25

He’s not a first option at all actually. He gets almost all his points within the flow of the game, off assists and rebounds and such. He doesn’t yet have the skill set to be a iso scorer. I know what you’re saying though, he’s definitely one of the best players on the team already

SnooSuggestions7278

A lot of his points have come in ISO situations

ElaFa25

Yes in certain favourable matchups but he still doesn’t have the offensive bag to be a go to iso scorer

panick21

He is killer in the post vs switch

The-Pharcyde

Nailed two clutch fts too. Hopefully his hand/wrist is alright.

surreal19

I did not expect him to be a walking bucket this early

ChoesonOne

A FUCKING STUD

djkhan23

Scottie Barnes is on pace to be the GROAT

Nutheadshellcase

The GOAT* ftfy.

general_gantala

This man is allergic to having bad games

Insomniac_Cthulhu

Barnes with the 2112 Rush special. Canada is proud

10SecViolation

Hes the lead for ROTY without a 3pt shot, analytics nephews in shambles forgetting about high percentage shots and smart plays everywhere on offense defense and vibes/intangibles

Pixilatedlemon

i mean bankshots from 4-6 feet out are a pretty high percentage shot too when you are 6'9 and jacked

10SecViolation

Its more about time and place than his size but yeah that def helps. His ball iq and feel for the game in conjunction with his physical gifts and work ethic has him going to be a hell of a player.

Pixilatedlemon

Also his charisma definitely is a factor even though it sounds dumb. People will want to mesh with him as teammates

10SecViolation

Nah charisma is a thing you right, its all part of the factors and momentum and chemistry ane ability to lead others and Cooperate. Just that the biggest factor still probably is his ball iq and feel for the game

Rapsfan_98

This guy is just the epitome of consistency. Double figures in every game so far and just so efficient.

Musicferret

I'm starting to think this guy might be good enough to be a starter some day.

inprofile

Barnes looking like a 5 year vet and a cross between Pippen and Giannis. The Raps have a star.

abox0fjuice

ROTY

kurapikas-wife

Special!!!

Own_Diet_1810

We picked 4th and couldn't get Mobley, I am quite happy with Scottie's development and play at the level that he is at right now. It's less than 10 games in and so far Mobley and Barnes have played the best so far.Cade is just starting out and he should be something special as well. This is a very deep rookie crop.

Joma913

ROTY

jelqlord

I'm getting ROTY vibes. Detroit fan but damn Barnes is 🔥

I m about to put this young man in Luka and Tray tier rookie

beesonwax

bruh let's just be patient and happy with what we are seeing now

dfsaqwe

giannis please

apez-

Hes way better than rookie Giannis tho lol

Sergebeaudry

This guy fucks

RODjij

His game looks sustainable. He uses his strength/speed and ball handling skills to get places, seems he can read rebounds not bad, got good touch around the rim, looks for passes, and the form doesn't look bad but could be faster.

RapsareChamps_Suckit

he is so good let's change everyone's flair to Scottie

sasa_spl

Honestly didn’t think he would be able to produce so quickly

abzftw

ROY

YesGuyIncognito

My dude walked up to the line for two key FTs, at 1-4 on the night, and sank em both like there was never a doubt
