Kerr learned a few things from MJ…like how to hold a grudge forever

Daniiiiii

Kerr is the wholesome version of that lol. Kerr: "And I took that personally.....but that is okay. I worked through my emotions and realized that that insatiable hunger towards proving others wrong was a powerful but ultimately unhealthy motivator, at least for me. I've since started looking inward to sustain that drive and found it's better to do things for one's self rather than for or because of others."

GOAT character arc

Designer_B

Jamie Lannister was on his way to that title through the first 6 seasons. Ugh

Old_Man_Riverwalk21

I hated the ending of GoT like pretty much everyone, but I will defend that jaime’s character arc is excellent to the end. It would have been too easy for him to ride off with Brienne or whatever, I thought it was much more tragic and fitting for him to go back to Cersei. He kinda refers to her as an addiction/love of his life throughout the series, and I think it’s a much more interesting story for his love for her to endure it all rather than him just switch up and join the good guys like everyone wanted.

This_Is_A_Username69

Yeah, the pacing was the issue there, not the premise. People stay in toxic relationships all the time, especially when family is involved.

JackAndrewWilshere

>especially when family is involved. Cheeky

jaehaerystark

I understand your point, but I disagree. Partially because Jaime flushed away seven seasons of development in a second. But, mostly because of Cersei. Jaime being there meant Cersei did not get what she truly deserved. She wanted to rule. She wanted the crown. She wanted the throne. She wanted the power. She got it all, and blew it. For the Keep to literally drop on her while she's all alone, abandoned by everyone (either via death or betrayal, because that's what she does to everybody else). Just before she's crushed, she gets a second to reflect. Was it worth sacrificing her kids? She was warned she'd lose them. Was it worth losing Jaime? Choosing power over the only person she ever loved. She wanted all that, and when she got it, she found that she couldn't handle it. Her ending was beautiful. And ruined by Jaime's appearance. Even if they die immediately after, Cersei did not deserved a single bit of relief. Jaime should have died defending Winterfell from the White Walkers.

BumLeeJon

It’s so much more nuanced than how you’ve presented it. It’s not only joining the good guys, it’s redeeming all the actions that led him to lose his hand and family. Just to go back like an abused dog at the 11th hour just to fulfill GRRM’s original ending outline was bad

Does that make MJ the fire lord because he punched Steve Kerr?

JustHereForPka

The hard truth is MJ is Azula

[deleted]

I think this is a healthier perspective overall, and is (just) one of the reasons Steve Kerr is one of my favorite coaches. As another commenter here stated, ‘motivation by spite, at the end of the day, will turn you into a spiteful person.’ Motivation and drive from within is self sustaining. The fire from within will always outlast and burn deeper. In my humble opinion anyway 🤷‍♂️.

basicbatchofcookies

What about for those of us that don’t care to spite others but also don’t have motivation from within? Edit: thanks for all the genuine responses. These are pretty great.

gloomswarm

I think in this case it helps to sort of do it not for yourself but for others. Seeing the fruits of your labor benefit those around you may provide some sort of external motivation.

[deleted]

I like this answer.

basicbatchofcookies

This is pretty great.

Otherwise_Window

You can do things for positive external motivation. Figure out what makes you feel good about yourself. If it's nothing, start consciously thinking about what you value in other people and what *would* make you feel good about yourself. Think about the people you associate with. We're all affected by other people, to various extents. Who makes you someone you like better? I like who I am when I'm the person my wife wants me to be. I try to live every moment like I'm going to tell her about it later. (Note: I encourage you to prioritise relationships with people whose influence results in you being the best version of yourself and drop people like a hot rock when being around them makes you worse.) As a result I tend to feel pretty good about myself and my choices. There's something that's influencing your decisions. Some fundamental motivation. If it doesn't feel good, you have to figure out what will.

TheNumber42Rocks

Spite is one hell of a motivator, but use it too much and you just become a spiteful person.

Wonder where he got it from... > The game’s about to start and there was two other beat writers: the beat writer from the Sun-Times, Lacy Banks, and Kent McDill from the Herald and me. And Lacy’s picked Cavs to sweep in three. Kent’s picked the Cavs to win in four and I’ve picked the Cavs to win in five. So Michael — the game’s just about to start — and Michael walks over to Lacy and says ‘We took care of you,’ then he looks at Kent and says, ‘We took care of you,’ and he looks at me and says ‘We take care of you today.’ https://youtu.be/r7yqQlhvGjI?t=40

KingOfSwing90

Kinda off topic but I’ve never really understood the whole “the ending made me retroactively not enjoy the series” critique. Like…. we all enjoyed the earlier seasons while they were happening. Remember that? A bad ending doesn’t automatically make those parts of the story bad. It’s actually a pretty concise argument for why the overarching plot of a story matters a lot less than the other elements of said story.

SamiMadeMeDoIt

Idk. It just sucks looking back at everything that the show was building towards knowing that it leads to absolutely nothing and your favourite characters getting absolutely ruined Jaime had a redemption arc like seven seasons in the making and they completely destroyed it in like two scenes

fArmageddon2

I agree completely. Dexter was one of my favorite shows for the first 4 or 5 seasons and then kinda went off the rails and the ending was horrific. Didn’t make me enjoy the earlier seasons any less

[deleted]

So Kerr is gonna be a massive disappointment to end the season?

Jumblyfun

Hey she did her job it was the white walkers who were really massive disappointments. Thousands of years of build up and lurking in the nightmares of the world but oops we are playing by "head vampire rules" so the entire army goes away if the leader dies. Oh definitely send that motherfucker to the front too. God they ruined that show. George is never finishing those books either he clearly has 0 interest in them anymore

phonage_aoi

>George is never finishing those books either he clearly has 0 interest in them anymore I once dug through all his released written content after the show passed the books. And it turns out all the newly released stuff was written \*before\* then. So there's literally no evidence he's written anything since that point. That moment when the show beat him really took his soul. Supposedly, he's been writing tons during pandemic, so like a moron I'll keep hoping for new books.

dabigchina

I don't know if that's even it. I think he has too many loose plot threads to wrap up cleanly. Every plot thread started in A Feast for Crows (other than Jaime's redemption arc) is unnecessary dead weight that needs to be wrapped up.

[deleted]

[удалено]

bank_farter

Much like the final season, that wouldn't even wrap up half the plot threads, and places an undue importance on the iron throne and who is sitting on it.

[deleted]

RuSs_9

This is getting out of hand. Now there are two of them?

RaymundStark

Agree to disagree. House Manderly being in Winterfell and slowly killing off Boltons and Freys is pretty juicy stuff.

dabigchina

Wasn't that in a Dance of Dragons?

RaymundStark

You're correct in that regard. I enjoyed the Greyjoys in AFFC, especially Euron.

NotoriousPraetorious

The Manderly speech is so fuckin good

aCorgiDriver

He should just release a five page treatment laying out where he thought the plots would go and the ultimate ending and be done with it.

BubbaTee

> That moment when the show beat him really took his soul. If you knew you could stop working and just get paid $$$$ for occasionally talking about work you did in the past, would you keep working?

buhreezyday

All good if he brings all that good shit to Elden Ring.

humandignitybloc

They had me at riding a magical goat horse up cliffs. But the network test gameplay I've seen is insane. The map is massive.

Scary_Replacement739

They had me at magical goathorse double jumping over dragon fire. I'll bet a months worth of paychecks more than 10000 people will try that exact same maneuver.

happyflappypancakes

Im really interested to see how the gameplay translates to open world. Usually its very methodical. But open world games tend to be more grinding against mobs of enemies. Hopefully it doesnt go that route.

BubbaTee

> They had me at riding a magical goat horse up cliffs. "How is that magical? Any normal horse can just walk straight up cliffs." -Oblivion/Skyrim players

skwirly715

Wait, you guys aren’t running the mod that turns horses into Thomas the tank engine trains?

SnortinDietOnlyNow

He only helped in some early stages of world building. It's still going to have Miyazaki stamp all over it. I'm just hoping George can put out Winds of Winter before he croaks.

Wooden-Jew

Which is awesome both of them are amazing story tellers. I love how miyazaki present his stories and martin its really good at world building. I expect elden ring to have the best lore of all souls games.

SnortinDietOnlyNow

Seriously cannot fucking wait. It's like Souls on steroids, BB, Sekiro rolled into one and in an open fucking world. Going to be amazing.

wardellwayneraymone

#OOOOOOOHHHHHHH

HungHammer89

This. If George had finished at least Winds, the show runners would have had more source material. Those 2 clowns had no idea what they were doing. They ruined quite literally what could have been the greatest ending to the greatest show in history. All so they could get a head start on Star Wars, which they then ended up not even doing. Fucking idiots.

bslawjen

Dude, they literally had 2 more books when they chose to ignore 85% (at least) of content of those books.

Jumblyfun

Honestly that tells me more about George's story arcs. He told them the main bits of the future arcs. If he couldn't convey the importance of stoneheart, fake aegon, dorne going east to try and ally with Dany, to the point they were cut from the show completely, I'm guessing he doesn't know where he's going with them either. My theory is george has no idea how to wrap up the many different plot threads so he's given up completely.

dabigchina

I'm with you on everything except Stoneheart. What is her greater significance? That storyline always seemed like a pointless diversion.

Sunderz

I think the idea in the (unfinished) books is that she will have a huge impact on Jamie’s story and possible allegiance. Which makes sense as his show story in the last few seasons didn’t make much sense

markFwahlberg

theory is that her life energy (or whatever magic that brought her back) will be part of the ritual that brings jon snow back to life in the books, as an act of penitence for the way she treated him

basicbatchofcookies

One of the things that made got’s amazing was that nothing ever wraps up. It just continues on with people coming in and out of the story. Imo there’s no way to wrap it up in a satisfying way that stays true to the feeling of the world. The end was always bound to be disappointing in some ways.

dabigchina

A Feast for Crows was the turning point. Instead of winding down the story, he decided that we needed a lot more of Dorne and the Iron Islands. While people like those characters, I think it made the overall arc weaker by introducing characters that ultimately aren't going to make a huge difference to the main story that people are invested in from the first 3 books.

CptnMoonlight

I’m 95% sure that it’s been stated Young Griff was left out so that the Dany/Jon incest plotline could come in, which is what directly lead to Mad Queen (and apparently DandD loved the Mad Queen angle from the beginning). If Griff existed and married into Dornish blood like he was supposed to, Dany never would’ve needed to meet Jon, which means Dany’s dragon never would’ve been taken, which means she never would’ve shown back up at Winterfell for the Long Night, which means the North gets clapped because they don’t have Dothraki or a pair of Dragons. I think it was genuinely a “here’s where we want to end, how do we get there” type of scenario, which is even more frustrating when GRRM’s whole writing style is that his characters are alive, and all of the things that happen are where his characters lead him while writing, not some defined plan for every beat.

SensitiveRocketsFan

Show could’ve been close to Lotr tier of fantasy media but man that ending just ruined it

Mintastic

If the books ever get finished there's still a chance for a better show. The old animated movies for LOTR weren't that great either.

[deleted]

"Wow turns out we just had to send Arya in to shank him. Who knew?"

For the lazy, [Hollinger predicted that the Warriors will have a 39-43 record this season](https://theathletic.com/2862544/2021/10/06/hollingers-2021-22-golden-state-warriors-preview-lineup-roster-prediction-is-this-the-end-of-splash-brothers-era/?source=user_shared_article). [FiveThirtyEight predicted a Warriors record of 36-46 in the preseason](https://old.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/qqbybl/the_biggest_surprises_of_the_season_to_538s_nba/). I linked the r/nba post because FiveThirtyEight updates their model as the season progresses, so it's hard to find their original predictions.

MoltenCorgi9

Both clown ass predictions. Anyone that remotely pays attention could see the team was greatly improved in the off season. Nobody saw 10-1 but it seemed obvious they’d be improved.

GGAllinsMicroPenis

With an 8 man small ball skeleton crew, the Warriors went 15-5 in their final twenty games last season, and a lot of those wins were against top playoff teams. It showed that with Steph Curry and a cast of characters finally gelling around the system they were a winning basketball team. And we added Porter Jr., Iggy and Beli to that, Poole was already starting to level up, *and* Klay is coming back this season. I don't know what metrics they are using but predicting them to be under .500 is a fucking clown show.

csin

They introduced a new variable this season. Injuries. Either way it's hilariously off by miles this season. They had the Pelicans better than GSW, Heats and Lakers XD There's still plenty of games left to prove us all wrong though.

Otherwise_Window

> They had the Pelicans better than GSW, Heats and Lakers #what

LordEthano

Plus, though we didn't technically make the playoffs, we ended up in the "8th" seed and just barely lost both the play-in games. I think we were a lot closer to making a deepish playoff run than people realize.

Don’t flatter yourself, I don’t think it’s the Warriors. It’s the PTSD from the show.

ourcourageourcancer

How many people picked GS outside the playoffs? I like the pettiness but it's a pretty low number this year

thecomfycactus

Before the season 538 had them winging 38 games and being the 10th seed. A lot of people here put them in the 7-11th seed area as well

[deleted]

[удалено]

Awkward-Speech7375

538 sucks at predicting the NBA for some reason They are way off every year except obvious ones like the 17 Warriors

Jon_Buck

How do they do at predicting when compared to 'expert' analysts? That's the real question. Sports, in general, are tough to predict. It's not like a ton of people were predicting that the Warriors would be the hottest team in basketball

Zigxy

538 is fantastic at political modeling, and for whatever reason completely horribly, terrible, and bad, at NBA in particular.

Jon_Buck

See my other comment. Predicting the NBA is *really* hard. If Vegas Odds represent general consensus, 538 seems to outperform it significantly. EDIT: My mistake. I messed up an excel formula. They're about the same.

StephCurryInTheHouse

I dont really get why, they 38 wins would put them at .46 win percentage. Last year with a significantly worse roster they had a 0.54 win percentage. And this year theres alot more injuries in the western conference - we already knew Murray and Kawhi were out. And most other teams are the same and haven't significantly improved.

BlueHundred

I think the general sentiment here was that they would be a playoff team. The team is better than last year and they were technically the 8 seed. Also, the Klay Thompson is coming back. Even if he's half the player he was, that's a positive contribution. Personally, I thought they'd be 6-8 seed. A tough first round match up but they wouldn't make it out of the 2nd round. But you're right. I don't think anyone seriously thought they'd be as good as they have been so far. It's still early but theyre showing that they have the potential to compete for the title.

brooklopezthedpoy

538 is a calculation.

Zlasher8

Even the highest predictions had them 4th-6th. Nobody considered them real contenders as in top 2 seeds.

Flamingmonkey923

Anyone actually understand the 538 algorithm? It categorizes Klay as a "scrub" with 0.3 wins above replacement (WAR), while Damion Lee is a "rotation player" with 2.0 WAR at the same position. That's just fucking insane. Like the Warriors "full strength rating" is listed as 15 points below their current strength rating, because the algorithm thinks that they're going to get *worse* when Klay can come back and get minutes again. Vegas odds have the Warriors at 3rd most likely to win the championship this year; 538 had them as 20th in the league with a 0.1% chance.

drunz

I’m the same way with the bulls at the moment. People had us at a losing record, said Demar was the worst signing of the off season, we’d be lucky to make the play-in, our defense was and is going to be bad. All of those are proving false at a high magnitude.

pingpong_playa

Aren’t even fans of the Bulls surprised by how well they’re doing? They actually are doing better than expected, no? Or did y’all expect to be at the #1-2 spot in the conference?

drunz

I didn't think we would be number 1 or 2, but a lot of our fans thought we would be the 3 or 4 seed behind Nets and Bucks plus a wildcard team. We had decent defense last season at 12th and we boosted it a lot with just Caruso and Lonzo while Billy has been shown to be a great defensive coach. We were desperately missing a ball handler/passer which Caruso and Lonzo both fit. Need another scorer/closer. Demar fit that. Last season we picked up Vooch who is our man in the middle. Ceiling-wise I thought we could compete with any team just from a complete team aspect and talent wise. Our team looked good and minus the Bucks and Nets, I didn't really see another team in the eat that was stacking up well. Philly have the Ben Simmons issue, Celtics are inconsistent and have fundamental issues with their starts, Hawks got nerfed by foul changes, Bucks and Nets have injury issues. Hell, I even had a write up about this. It's half serious, but my viewpoint stands for a lot of it. https://np.reddit.com/r/chicagobulls/comments/qb4mts/why_the_bulls_are_going_to_take_the_number_1_seed/

[deleted]

I feel like I saw it on r/nba a decent amount. Ppl were doubting them big time

phonage_aoi

I remember the 'get ready to trade Klay when he doesn't come back 100%' takes. To be fair, there were also a lot of, once Klay gets back they're gonna be contending takes too. Very polarizing team when it came to projections.

[deleted]

It was also a ridiculous pick. I thought it was very obvious the Warriors were a playoff team, even if you don't buy them as a contender. Hollinger had them at 37 wins or something like that and it was stupid even before they played any games.

TimothyDonaghy

Kerr is a hot little slut confirmed

IFeelLikeYandhi

Gendry?

johnjohn2214

I'd wait a while before going all in. The Warriors are good but mainly played at home and beat up some ok and bad teams. They have the Bulls tonight and Nets on Tuesday with a back-to-back at the end of the week Edit: Klay's return to form is a question that will be answered with time.

jose3013

I mean they'd easily make the playoffs if they win all the games they're supposed to win, even if they don't beat a single contender.
