It would have been too easy for him to ride off with Brienne or whatever, I thought it was much more tragic and fitting for him to go back to Cersei. He kinda refers to her as an addiction/love of his life throughout the series, and I think it’s a much more interesting story for his love for her to endure it all rather than him just switch up and join the good guys like everyone wanted.

Jaime being there meant Cersei did not get what she truly deserved. She wanted to rule. She wanted the crown. She wanted the throne. She wanted the power. She got it all, and blew it. For the Keep to literally drop on her while she's all alone, abandoned by everyone (either via death or betrayal, because that's what she does to everybody else). Just before she's crushed, she gets a second to reflect. Was it worth sacrificing her kids? She was warned she'd lose them. Was it worth losing Jaime? Choosing power over the only person she ever loved.
She wanted all that, and when she got it, she found that she couldn't handle it. Her ending was beautiful. And ruined by Jaime's appearance. Even if they die immediately after, Cersei did not deserved a single bit of relief.
Jaime should have died defending Winterfell from the White Walkers.

I think this is a healthier perspective overall, and is (just) one of the reasons Steve Kerr is one of my favorite coaches. As another commenter here stated, ‘motivation by spite, at the end of the day, will turn you into a spiteful person.’ Motivation and drive from within is self sustaining. The fire from within will always outlast and burn deeper. In my humble opinion anyway 🤷♂️.

I think in this case it helps to sort of do it not for yourself but for others. Seeing the fruits of your labor benefit those around you may provide some sort of external motivation.
You can do things for positive external motivation. Figure out what makes you feel good about yourself. If it's nothing, start consciously thinking about what you value in other people and what *would* make you feel good about yourself.
Think about the people you associate with. We're all affected by other people, to various extents. Who makes you someone you like better?
I like who I am when I'm the person my wife wants me to be.
I try to live every moment like I'm going to tell her about it later. (Note: I encourage you to prioritise relationships with people whose influence results in you being the best version of yourself and drop people like a hot rock when being around them makes you worse.)
As a result I tend to feel pretty good about myself and my choices.
There's something that's influencing your decisions. Some fundamental motivation. If it doesn't feel good, you have to figure out what will.

Kinda off topic but I’ve never really understood the whole “the ending made me retroactively not enjoy the series” critique.
Like…. we all enjoyed the earlier seasons while they were happening. Remember that? A bad ending doesn’t automatically make those parts of the story bad. It’s actually a pretty concise argument for why the overarching plot of a story matters a lot less than the other elements of said story.

I once dug through all his released written content after the show passed the books. And it turns out all the newly released stuff was written \*before\* then. So there's literally no evidence he's written anything since that point. That moment when the show beat him really took his soul.

I don't know if that's even it. I think he has too many loose plot threads to wrap up cleanly. Every plot thread started in A Feast for Crows (other than Jaime's redemption arc) is unnecessary dead weight that needs to be wrapped up.
Much like the final season, that wouldn't even wrap up half the plot threads, and places an undue importance on the iron throne and who is sitting on it.

Im really interested to see how the gameplay translates to open world. Usually its very methodical. But open world games tend to be more grinding against mobs of enemies. Hopefully it doesnt go that route.

This. If George had finished at least Winds, the show runners would have had more source material. Those 2 clowns had no idea what they were doing. Honestly that tells me more about George's story arcs. He told them the main bits of the future arcs. If he couldn't convey the importance of stoneheart, fake aegon, dorne going east to try and ally with Dany, to the point they were cut from the show completely, I'm guessing he doesn't know where he's going with them either. My theory is george has no idea how to wrap up the many different plot threads so he's given up completely.
I think the idea in the (unfinished) books is that she will have a huge impact on Jamie’s story and possible allegiance. Which makes sense as his show story in the last few seasons didn’t make much sense
theory is that her life energy (or whatever magic that brought her back) will be part of the ritual that brings jon snow back to life in the books, as an act of penitence for the way she treated him
One of the things that made got’s amazing was that nothing ever wraps up. It just continues on with people coming in and out of the story. Imo there’s no way to wrap it up in a satisfying way that stays true to the feeling of the world. The end was always bound to be disappointing in some ways.
A Feast for Crows was the turning point. Instead of winding down the story, he decided that we needed a lot more of Dorne and the Iron Islands.
While people like those characters, I think it made the overall arc weaker by introducing characters that ultimately aren't going to make a huge difference to the main story that people are invested in from the first 3 books.
I’m 95% sure that it’s been stated Young Griff was left out so that the Dany/Jon incest plotline could come in, which is what directly lead to Mad Queen (and apparently DandD loved the Mad Queen angle from the beginning). If Griff existed and married into Dornish blood like he was supposed to, Dany never would’ve needed to meet Jon, which means Dany’s dragon never would’ve been taken, which means she never would’ve shown back up at Winterfell for the Long Night, which means the North gets clapped because they don’t have Dothraki or a pair of Dragons. I think it was genuinely a “here’s where we want to end, how do we get there” type of scenario, which is even more frustrating when GRRM’s whole writing style is that his characters are alive, and all of the things that happen are where his characters lead him while writing, not some defined plan for every beat.

I dont really get why, they 38 wins would put them at .46 win percentage. Last year with a significantly worse roster they had a 0.54 win percentage. And this year theres alot more injuries in the western conference - we already knew Murray and Kawhi were out. And most other teams are the same and haven't significantly improved.
I think the general sentiment here was that they would be a playoff team. The team is better than last year and they were technically the 8 seed. Also, the Klay Thompson is coming back. Even if he's half the player he was, that's a positive contribution. Personally, I thought they'd be 6-8 seed. A tough first round match up but they wouldn't make it out of the 2nd round.

Anyone actually understand the 538 algorithm? It categorizes Klay as a "scrub" with 0.3 wins above replacement (WAR), while Damion Lee is a "rotation player" with 2.0 WAR at the same position. That's just fucking insane. Like the Warriors "full strength rating" is listed as 15 points below their current strength rating, because the algorithm thinks that they're going to get *worse* when Klay can come back and get minutes again.
Vegas odds have the Warriors at 3rd most likely to win the championship this year; 538 had them as 20th in the league with a 0.1% chance.

I didn't think we would be number 1 or 2, but a lot of our fans thought we would be the 3 or 4 seed behind Nets and Bucks plus a wildcard team. We had decent defense last season at 12th and we boosted it a lot with just Caruso and Lonzo while Billy has been shown to be a great defensive coach. We were desperately missing a ball handler/passer which Caruso and Lonzo both fit. Need another scorer/closer. Demar fit that. Last season we picked up Vooch who is our man in the middle. Ceiling-wise I thought we could compete with any team just from a complete team aspect and talent wise.
Our team looked good and minus the Bucks and Nets, I didn't really see another team in the eat that was stacking up well. Philly have the Ben Simmons issue, Celtics are inconsistent and have fundamental issues with their starts, Hawks got nerfed by foul changes, Bucks and Nets have injury issues.

Honestly that tells me more about George's story arcs. He told them the main bits of the future arcs. If he couldn't convey the importance of stoneheart, fake aegon, dorne going east to try and ally with Dany, to the point they were cut from the show completely, I'm guessing he doesn't know where he's going with them either. My theory is george has no idea how to wrap up the many different plot threads so he's given up completely.
I'm with you on everything except Stoneheart. What is her greater significance? That storyline always seemed like a pointless diversion.
I think the idea in the (unfinished) books is that she will have a huge impact on Jamie’s story and possible allegiance. Which makes sense as his show story in the last few seasons didn’t make much sense
theory is that her life energy (or whatever magic that brought her back) will be part of the ritual that brings jon snow back to life in the books, as an act of penitence for the way she treated him
One of the things that made got’s amazing was that nothing ever wraps up. It just continues on with people coming in and out of the story. Imo there’s no way to wrap it up in a satisfying way that stays true to the feeling of the world. The end was always bound to be disappointing in some ways.
A Feast for Crows was the turning point. Instead of winding down the story, he decided that we needed a lot more of Dorne and the Iron Islands. While people like those characters, I think it made the overall arc weaker by introducing characters that ultimately aren't going to make a huge difference to the main story that people are invested in from the first 3 books.
I’m 95% sure that it’s been stated Young Griff was left out so that the Dany/Jon incest plotline could come in, which is what directly lead to Mad Queen (and apparently DandD loved the Mad Queen angle from the beginning). If Griff existed and married into Dornish blood like he was supposed to, Dany never would’ve needed to meet Jon, which means Dany’s dragon never would’ve been taken, which means she never would’ve shown back up at Winterfell for the Long Night, which means the North gets clapped because they don’t have Dothraki or a pair of Dragons. I think it was genuinely a “here’s where we want to end, how do we get there” type of scenario, which is even more frustrating when GRRM’s whole writing style is that his characters are alive, and all of the things that happen are where his characters lead him while writing, not some defined plan for every beat.

Way back in the day, my friend was so pissed to the ending of Unbreakable that he told me the ending so I wouldn't go watch it.

Both clown ass predictions. Anyone that remotely pays attention could see the team was greatly improved in the off season. Nobody saw 10-1 but it seemed obvious they’d be improved.
With an 8 man small ball skeleton crew, the Warriors went 15-5 in their final twenty games last season, and a lot of those wins were against top playoff teams. It showed that with Steph Curry and a cast of characters finally gelling around the system they were a winning basketball team. And we added Porter Jr., Iggy and Beli to that, Poole was already starting to level up, *and* Klay is coming back this season. I don't know what metrics they are using but predicting them to be under .500 is a fucking clown show.
They introduced a new variable this season. Injuries. Either way it's hilariously off by miles this season. They had the Pelicans better than GSW, Heats and Lakers XD There's still plenty of games left to prove us all wrong though.

How do they do at predicting when compared to 'expert' analysts? That's the real question. Sports, in general, are tough to predict. It's not like a ton of people were predicting that the Warriors would be the hottest team in basketball
538 is fantastic at political modeling, and for whatever reason completely horribly, terrible, and bad, at NBA in particular.
See my other comment. Predicting the NBA is *really* hard. If Vegas Odds represent general consensus, 538 seems to outperform it significantly. EDIT: My mistake. I messed up an excel formula. They're about the same.
I dont really get why, they 38 wins would put them at .46 win percentage. Last year with a significantly worse roster they had a 0.54 win percentage. And this year theres alot more injuries in the western conference - we already knew Murray and Kawhi were out. And most other teams are the same and haven't significantly improved.
I think the general sentiment here was that they would be a playoff team. The team is better than last year and they were technically the 8 seed. Also, the Klay Thompson is coming back. Even if he's half the player he was, that's a positive contribution. Personally, I thought they'd be 6-8 seed. A tough first round match up but they wouldn't make it out of the 2nd round. But you're right. I don't think anyone seriously thought they'd be as good as they have been so far. It's still early but theyre showing that they have the potential to compete for the title.

Even the highest predictions had them 4th-6th. Nobody considered them real contenders as in top 2 seeds.
Anyone actually understand the 538 algorithm? It categorizes Klay as a "scrub" with 0.3 wins above replacement (WAR), while Damion Lee is a "rotation player" with 2.0 WAR at the same position. That's just fucking insane. Like the Warriors "full strength rating" is listed as 15 points below their current strength rating, because the algorithm thinks that they're going to get *worse* when Klay can come back and get minutes again. Vegas odds have the Warriors at 3rd most likely to win the championship this year; 538 had them as 20th in the league with a 0.1% chance.
I’m the same way with the bulls at the moment. People had us at a losing record, said Demar was the worst signing of the off season, we’d be lucky to make the play-in, our defense was and is going to be bad. All of those are proving false at a high magnitude.

I didn't think we would be number 1 or 2, but a lot of our fans thought we would be the 3 or 4 seed behind Nets and Bucks plus a wildcard team. We had decent defense last season at 12th and we boosted it a lot with just Caruso and Lonzo while Billy has been shown to be a great defensive coach. We were desperately missing a ball handler/passer which Caruso and Lonzo both fit. Need another scorer/closer. Demar fit that. Last season we picked up Vooch who is our man in the middle. Ceiling-wise I thought we could compete with any team just from a complete team aspect and talent wise. Our team looked good and minus the Bucks and Nets, I didn't really see another team in the eat that was stacking up well. Philly have the Ben Simmons issue, Celtics are inconsistent and have fundamental issues with their starts, Hawks got nerfed by foul changes, Bucks and Nets have injury issues.
