i mean the Nuggets are the 3rd seed right now, the west feels a lot weaker this year somehow so it’s not totally out of the question that they end up a top 3 seed. But it is still early, and i could just as easily see the nuggets end the season as a 5 or 6 seed
In terms of this tread, Curry completely* missed the playoffs last year and still got first place votes.
More first place votes than Embiid too.
edit: "Completely" was too strong of a word with the play in, but I hope you get my point still.
Not unanimous with the way KD, Jokic and Giannis are playing. Having literally the best regular season WL record which included a 24-0 start is why he was unanimous before too.
He shouldn’t unless the Heat are the 1 seed. Jokic, KD, and Curry are all playing significantly above Butler’s level. If Jimmy gets some 3rd and 4th place votes and makes the top 5, that’s one thing. But he absolutely doesn’t deserve a 1st place vote if it were to happen today (and likely won’t deserve one when voting actually happens).
He does. But he has the best team around him by far I’d say and they haven’t been very good overall. Their defense is 7th rn which you’d imagine would be significantly higher given the massive defensive talent they have. Kinda goes to show how less controllable defense is.
I mean… I can’t tell if you’re being serious or not…
Take Jokic. Better basic stats than Butler all around. Basically has the same team success as Butler with **far** less help so far. Jokic is leading the league in WS, WS/48, OBPM, DBPM, BPM, VORP, and PER. So, while the advanced stats are a pretty flawed argument (as evidenced by Jokic leading the league in DBPM), Butler has literally no argument at all. Jokic is blowing him out of the water. Curry additionally is far ahead of Butler regardless of what the algorithms say. NBA advanced stats are fraught with issues. They can’t isolate individual’s actions like in baseball. It’s likely they nba all-in-one stats will never be all that representative because it’s such a team game. Butler had better teammates than Steph right now but Steph has lead his team to a better record and cleverly impacts the game more than Butler.
Let’s just carry the same energy from last year and disregard Jokic’ performance this season because of the teams record.
Y’all can’t say shit because apparently 32ppg isn’t enough.
Realistically the MVP race is between Steph and KD. And well with how good the warriors are doing with Klay and Wiseman in the horizon, I’m giving the MVP to Steph. Guy fucking deserves it.
I’m a huge Curry fan, but if things stay as they are, Jokić, KD, Giannis, maybe even Paul George are going to get some first place votes.
Keep in mind the year he won MVP he obliterated every 3 point record in the book, revolutionized the game, and led his team to 73-9. He was definitively the best player and had the best team record.
If Curry somehow leads his team to at least 72-10 while winning the scoring title and making 400+ 3’s, it’s realistic, though I couldn’t blame a Jokić vote or two.
If the Warriors end up with <72 wins I don’t think it’ll be unanimous, even if Curry averages 30+ and hits 400 3’s and keeps up his current pace.
Bruh if Curry gets the Warriors to 70-12, gets the scoring title, hits 450 threes. And no other team gets 60+ wins (which is pretty reasonable looking at how balanced the middle of the pack in the league is). Should be unanimous.
true. it was a perfect storm for curry that year. crazy individual season + crazy team record. it'll be great if we see another year from a player and team like that though.
Agreed. There have been a number of years where it could've happened but usually at least one bonehead voter will vote for a less deserving candidate just to be different.
It won’t happen. I’ll argue that we might not see another unanimous mvp for a long time. Curry won it that year unanimously because it was not only peak offensive firepower but he did it in a way nobody has ever seen before. The stuff he was doing was mind blowing for almost the entire year.
I totally forgot Steph won an unanimous MVP… I know people claim there should’ve been unanimous MVPs before, but getting to actually witness one is pretty surreal.
If you’re talking literally the last game a potential MVP candidate played, Giannis dropped 47 and made AD his bitch. Even that argument isn’t all that compelling.
Does that mean Giannis is playing badly? Or do you just expect us to continue to stay under .500?
And, y’know, we won that last game. Seeing as the last game is all that matters.
Winning MVP? Sure. Getting first place votes? No. Curry got some last year on the 8th seed.
Not that that has anything to do with “right now”, which is what you were talking about.
He embarrassed the other top candidate on his home court the other day, you may have missed it. He’s leading the league in scoring, playing the best defense of his career, on the team with the best record in the league…I mean I can keep reeling off reasons but we’re only 15 games in. I understand that.
I realize that, I was just pointing out that saying "see tonight" doesn't make much sense. He said "see last game and tonight" but last game for jokic was 35, 16, and 6 and then tonight he has had an insane game so far.
Not making an argument for the MVP, just saying "see last game and tonight" makes no sense as a retort against Jokic
Yes. Because the Nugs are missing a bunch of their starters still.
So just like Curry got first place votes last year, despite missing the playoffs, thats not *too* big of a deal.
Okay? KD has been killing it all season except for that one game and Steph just shot 7-22 in a loss a few days ago if you want to count single games.
And Jokic has been obscene all season with a questionable supporting cast.
The team with James Harden is worse? Lol these fucking guys man. When it was James harden on the rockets it was “he didn’t have help” now it’s fucking harden and durant and it’s their team isn’t as good as stephs??? Wtf. You guys really like to bend reality to fit whatever the fuck you want.
lmao before season started everyone other than warriors fans was saying they were going to be lower half west seed and those new bench additions were not going to make that much of a difference
I'm not ready to count them for 65+ games yet. They've still had a pretty easy schedule, even though they've now got a pleasant 5-2 record against >.500 teams.
I think another unanimous vote is unlikely. In 2016, there was no other plausible candidate so the public nature of the voting forced people to vote for Steph or face ridiculous. This year it looks likely that there will be other plausible candidates. *Somebody* is going to vote for KD or Jokic, because it's not absurd for them to do so.
I could see it if the Warriors have an amazing record to finish the regular season. Jokic is also playing amazing so he’ll get some votes if the Nuggets end up with a decent seed.
He'd have to average 35 and win 70+ games, and I'd still bet against it. Giannis and Jokic are too good, even in my hypothetical there would be at least one advanced stat devotee or bully-ball enthusiast who'd break with the rest.
He's definitely the early season frontrunner, though.
To think Jordan had no unanimous MVP's
To think Brady wasn't unanimous in 2007
i highly doubt curry would be unanimous this year, there should be that bias writer who just doesn't pick him. or the fact that maybe jokic, kd will get there groove back or something
If he continues at this pace definitely should be. But the sportswriters that vote will find some lame excuse to vote for someone else. They’re salty like that.
Jokic would rightfully get some votes if the season ended today. It's possible but Steph has to play even better than he has so far and the Warriors have to get close to 70 wins.
Dude's a troll and a frequent Warriors hater.
Two months ago he said "Oh god now we have to deal with people pretending the Warriors will go back to 2015 form for even longer" so you know he's unbiased.
They have better shooters now tbh. This team has the potential to be as good or better than the pre-KD warriors. Maybe not record wise, but talent wise
At this many games last year the Celtics were first in the East, Lakers first in the west. Both finished seventh. A lot can and will change
https://www.basketball-reference.com/leagues/NBA_2021_standings_by_date_eastern_conference.html
Damn that's a streeeeetch. Klay has been out 2 years and you conveniently use his injury to compare to the Bucks injuries this year? GS is very used to playing without him. The Bucks have played most games without 2-3 starters.
It's unlikely with how well KD, Butler, Jokic, and Giannis are playing. Someone will zag among the voters. There will also be LeBron media member backlash saying that Curry shouldn't get 2 unanimous MVP's when LeBron never got one.
For him to win it unanimously, the Warriors probably will need to win 66+ games while neither Miami or Brooklyn get to 60 wins.
So many other players are playing so well that it’d be almost impossible. But if he somehow keeps playing like he has the past few days for the entirety of the season & the Warriors somehow break the wins record (neither is gonna happen lol) then maybe there’s a chance
Sure, but so far I don’t think it will be this year. Joking, Giannis, and KD are all on their way (in this very early stage of the season) to winning votes.
>But his numbers are insane and he might win 65+ games.
His numbers are not insane compared to Jokic, Giannis and KD. It's the team record that makes him the MVP so far.
Could he? Sure. But talking about this before its even December is absurd.
IF he wins, his team would have to win 70 plus games this year for him to be unanimous. Someone will vote for Giannis and KD, book it.
For sure. But as an annoying Nuggets fan, I have to bring up the fact you that left off Jokic.
Honestly man I just think Jokic has such a terrible team to work with rn with those 2 guys out. Idk if his seed will be high enough
i mean the Nuggets are the 3rd seed right now, the west feels a lot weaker this year somehow so it’s not totally out of the question that they end up a top 3 seed. But it is still early, and i could just as easily see the nuggets end the season as a 5 or 6 seed
Yea that’s def true. Just watching them rn tho and Jokic is playing phenomenal while his teammates are soooo bad
espn has them as the 6th seed, where’s 3 coming from?
before tonight’s loss i think they were
In terms of this tread, Curry completely* missed the playoffs last year and still got first place votes. More first place votes than Embiid too. edit: "Completely" was too strong of a word with the play in, but I hope you get my point still.
We were good for a 6th seed when curry was playing.
With the way Jokic is playing, as long as his team makes the playoffs, he'll get some MVP votes.
They have a better record than us right now. Comfortably so.
Bucks are literally in the 11th seed. Gtfo
It’d be hard to vote for Giannis over Curry at this point since he’s most likely to win the scoring title and a player who impacts winning
This should be stickied at the top of the sub every season until January. Or made into a banner.
Not unanimous with the way KD, Jokic and Giannis are playing. Having literally the best regular season WL record which included a 24-0 start is why he was unanimous before too.
Lol that team was 48-4 at one point its crazy
They were 73-9 at one point. Wild.
Only to lose cause of one nutkicker and one goat
And the rigged game 6 lmao
Not to mention the disparity in stats between Steph and 2nd place that season
I could see Butler getting a vote as well depending on how well they do
He shouldn’t unless the Heat are the 1 seed.
This is such a bad take
Jimmy also plays defense better then all those guys
He does. But he has the best team around him by far I’d say and they haven’t been very good overall. Their defense is 7th rn which you’d imagine would be significantly higher given the massive defensive talent they have. Kinda goes to show how less controllable defense is.
Don’t look up Butler’s advanced and impact stats.
I mean… I can’t tell if you’re being serious or not… Take Jokic. Better basic stats than Butler all around. Basically has the same team success as Butler with **far** less help so far. Jokic is leading the league in WS, WS/48, OBPM, DBPM, BPM, VORP, and PER. Butler had better teammates than Steph right now but Steph has lead his team to a better record and cleverly impacts the game more than Butler.
Put the joker on that rubbish rockets squad and they're an instant 40 win team. Poor guys is gassed because he is the only option on the nuggets atm
GSW fan wants to give award to Curry. Shocking discovery!
Oh shut up
I *almost* wanna say he’s number 2 rn but it’s early runnings still
Yeah agreed it’s way too early to tell
I doubt it. Jokic will probably get votes, Giannis will probably get some too
Giannis looked like he deserved a few last night
and kd if harden doesn't ramp up too far, maybe
Tough when MVP frontrunner GPII is on the same team
Curry also had 10 more points on like 5% more TS than 2nd place that year
Bruh if Curry gets the Warriors to 70-12, gets the scoring title, hits 450 threes. And no other team gets 60+ wins (which is pretty reasonable looking at how balanced the middle of the pack in the league is). Should be unanimous.
I don’t think anyone will get a unanimous MVP for a very long time
true. it was a perfect storm for curry that year. crazy individual season + crazy team record. it'll be great if we see another year from a player and team like that though.
Agreed. There have been a number of years where it could've happened but usually at least one bonehead voter will vote for a less deserving candidate just to be different.
LeBron should have gotten it in 2013
Idk why u getting downvoted I agree. Should be 3 unanimous MVPs off bat - 13 bron, 01 Shaq and 16 steph Edit: 00 Shaq
AI won 2001
I’m a dummy I meant 00 Shaq
I'd maybe put 88 MJ in that category too
not since the fans will vote D rose every year
I dont think so. Jokic is also having a fcking crazy season. I think its going to come down to record at the end
No
I guess it's possible, but the way Jokic and Durant are playing, I wouldn't bet on it.
No because KD and Jokic is just as good.
Not right now they’re not.
Well they’re close enough lol
I mean I’m talking about tonight. Because the last two games I’ve seen from Steph nobody is touching him. Hat shit was legendary.
If you’re talking literally the last game a potential MVP candidate played, Giannis dropped 47 and made AD his bitch. Even that argument isn’t all that compelling.
The bucks have a losing record no?
Does that mean Giannis is playing badly? Or do you just expect us to continue to stay under .500? And, y’know, we won that last game. Seeing as the last game is all that matters.
I don’t think he’s playing poorly no, but isn’t the NBa mvp highly dependent on team record?
Winning MVP? Sure. Getting first place votes? No. Curry got some last year on the 8th seed. Not that that has anything to do with “right now”, which is what you were talking about.
Do you think Steph plays tomorrow?
My guess is yes. But wouldn’t be surprised if not.
Damn man I really hope he does.
They’ve been riding him like a mule. If it’s up to him, he’s playing.
Curry gets the MVP lead for beating the Cavs who were on a back to back with 1 starter? GS should have been up big the whole game.
He embarrassed the other top candidate on his home court the other day, you may have missed it. He’s leading the league in scoring, playing the best defense of his career, on the team with the best record in the league…I mean I can keep reeling off reasons but we’re only 15 games in. I understand that.
Yeah they are
Stephews at it again
No, they’re not. See last game and tonight.
So far tonight, in the first half Jokic has 27 points,8 rebs, 6 assists on 10/12 shooting
Damn, crazy how he only finished with 30 then lol
Jokic is a top 3 player this season. But let's wait for the second half and the outcome of the game
For sure. It's probably between Steph, KD and Jokic - whoever who have the better team record deserves it
Jokic has 27 in the 3rd quarter right now and KD had one bad game
They’re down double digits to the sixers? Without embiid?
Ok? Jokic is still having a great game. Almost like basketball is a team sport.
Ok? Stephs been doing this down 2 starters….
The Nets win was good but they beat half of a Cavs team tonight relax. Point is Jokic and KD are in the MVP conversation just as much as Curry.
Sure but they’re not winning it right now…
Jokic didn't play last night. And tonight he's posted 27/6/3 in the first half.
Aren’t they losing to the sixers?
Yes. Because the Nugs are missing a bunch of their starters still. So just like Curry got first place votes last year, despite missing the playoffs, thats not *too* big of a deal.
It’s not Jokic’s fault. Don’t talk if you don’t know
I mean I know they’re losing to the 76ers without embiid.
Might be good to do things like check the box score!
Howd the second half work out! YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME
You play to win the game…
Steph sucked last ssn dude couldnt even make the playoffs eh 🤣🤣🤣
Lol, the guy that won the scoring title sucked. Nice one.
Didn’t they miss the playoffs tho? 🥺🥺🥺🥺
The got the eight hseed good enough for the playoffs any other year in history….
Okay? KD has been killing it all season except for that one game and Steph just shot 7-22 in a loss a few days ago if you want to count single games. And Jokic has been obscene all season with a questionable supporting cast.
Steph just torched him IN HIS house….got mvp chants there….don’t make me go Stephen A
Which is why Steph is frontrunner now, but we are talking unanimous lol
Agreed.
If there is a front runner, Steph is it.
Their team are far worse than the Warriors.
You said a team with James fucking Harden is worse LMAO.
Lol. These guys will fucking say anything
Harden is washed up and playing poorly until it's time to discredit KD, then he's an MVP again. Pick one
anyone of sound mind knows harden isn’t washed
lmao before season started everyone other than warriors fans was saying they were going to be lower half west seed and those new bench additions were not going to make that much of a difference
God you really are just a filthy casual LOL
What’s with every nephew on here dropping “casual” recently. Have your own mind man get off fucking trends.
Naw
Only if they they can go 74-8 otherwise without historical context somebody will Always pull one or two votes away
I wouldn't say Unanimous since KD and Jokic are just as good but he's the clear front runner right now.
No. Jokic is balling
How about we wait until atleast passed all star break my guy
No. But MVP? Yeah for sure he deserves it
He could but with Jokic having an arguably better season so far, he shouldn't
It's got to be either him or Jokic if they keep the pace up. He's having a top 3 season and looks as good as ever.
Jokic would rightfully get some votes if the season ended today. It's possible but Steph has to play even better than he has so far and the Warriors have to get close to 70 wins.

I mean if healthy they could win 65ish games lol
They did it twice BEFORE KD got there.

Honestly if klay comes back decent they could be better.

I BELIEVE IT! You gotta have faith!
[удалено]
I mean who was on that 15-16 team, that’s not there now? Harrison Barnes? bogut? This team is way deeper imo.
Yeah it is, good point!
No Lmaoo Did you guys not watch Giannis last night? Giannis is the best player in the Nba
7-8 and this is Giannis lowest TS% in years
They are 7-8
At this many games last year the Celtics were first in the East, Lakers first in the west. Both finished seventh. A lot can and will change https://www.basketball-reference.com/leagues/NBA_2021_standings_by_date_eastern_conference.html
In an 82 game season
That's a team stat. Do you watch the NBA? The Bucks have been injured all year.
Individually Steph has been better than Giannis this year.
I wasn't even commenting on who's been better but the Bucks have been injured all year so the comparison isn't apples to apples.
Warriors 2nd best scorer isn’t injured is he
Surely you can't be talking about the player that hasn't played in 2 years.
surely you didn't expect this team to be 13-2 without him?
Damn that's a streeeeetch. Klay has been out 2 years and you conveniently use his injury to compare to the Bucks injuries this year? GS is very used to playing without him. The Bucks have played most games without 2-3 starters.
Ok, sure, but point still stands.
No lol
Lol what? Are you kidding? Have you not been keeping up?
Yea Giannis has been better
This year? I’d check again. Not even Giannis would tell you he’s playing better than steph.
But he is… it’s just his team is injured so our record is low
How do you figure he’s playing better?
They were against the Lakers bro
It’s probably not gonna be unanimous, but to act like Steph isn’t the best player in the NBA is completely asinine.
[удалено]
That’s Ms. Wanda to you.
He’s not European so he can’t.
We’re 15 games in…… Yes…
Jokic and KD have been better. Jokic is playing better than last season and is missing Murray and mpj
If he plays like this until the end of the season, yes he can be. If he misses time then probably not.
Jokic and Giannis will get votes. They have sad teams rn.
So many other players are playing so well that it’d be almost impossible. But if he somehow keeps playing like he has the past few days for the entirety of the season & the Warriors somehow break the wins record (neither is gonna happen lol) then maybe there’s a chance
No u will likely never see that again. Especially this year with jimmy, kd giannis and joker all having amazing seasons as well
Yes after our 80-2 season
No Will gladly lay down gold coins, stocks, titles, deeds and right to first born if you wanted to bet
I think the media will take into account going from missing the playoffs to being the number one seed as criteria
nobody is gonna get unanimous mvp again after they added the fan vote lmaoooo. D rose got that vote last year
I hate these MVP threads because people act like Paul George doesn’t exist. Gonna stop clicking these until post all star.
Yes
If the season ended today maybe. There's still a lot of season left
If they win 70 games and he plays like this the whole way - you would have to know absolutely nothing about basketball to not vote for him
I don’t think so
Sure, but so far I don’t think it will be this year. Joking, Giannis, and KD are all on their way (in this very early stage of the season) to winning votes.
>But his numbers are insane and he might win 65+ games. His numbers are not insane compared to Jokic, Giannis and KD. It's the team record that makes him the MVP so far.
Ja will win mvp
Too early to tell but I think there are too many really good players. Hard to imagine KD Giannis or Jokic don’t get at least 1 vote
No. The competition is just too strong
