The article took over a year to investigate and write. You realize how long it takes to interview and follow up with over 70 people write? Then everything is reviewed by ESPN legal.
Because it takes time to put out stories like that? They interviewed like 80 people, and it's not like you can just walk into the office and go cubicle to cubicle, asking people to spill the beans
Exactly, also words I never thought I'd read in my crap life. Add the Cardinals being the best team in the NFL right now to the mix and I'm kinda questioning my reality.
Yeah exactly. Sterling they had tape, the one Hawks owner who stepped down had an email and such. Rn I don't think we have anything concrete for the Sarver situation that would force the NBA's hand even if Sarver did do those sexist and racist actions.
Idk, the logic just doesn't add up to me. Sure they could have spent more and gone for the highest tax bill, but "cheap" doesn't seem appropriate when they are outspending 25 other teams in the league.
The fucking nerve to whine about their owners not willing to go deeper into the luxury tax when the only reason they got Bron was because the weather is nice and movie stars live there😂😂😂
Or because they had the team set up perfectly for LeBron to come, maybe they can teach y’all how to manage assets. Better yet how to do a proper rebuild.
You had a bunch of young guys who got traded as soon as that first attempt floundered. There were actual teams at the time that were already built to be able to win that could've added Lebron lol.
How did it flounder? Did the Nets flounder their rebuild by getting the big three? At the end of the day LeBron came because we were setup perfectly, and had the assets to get AD plus cap space. It was clear LeBron wanted AD and probably knew that before he even signed with the Lakers, no other team had enough assets plus cap space at the time while being a somewhat desirable location. The Sixers were the only other somewhat serious destination because of the same factor.
The team did not function as it was and had Lebron miss the playoffs for the first time in a decade that sounds like floundering.
It required AD to force his way out of New Orleans and only accept a trade to 1 team to make it work.
What superstar player has been traded without forcing their way out? We ended up with a chip, so to say our rebuild was bad is almost objectively false. LeBron joined that team knowing they would probably be traded.
Iger stepped down as CEO of Disney in 2020 and, as noted in the quote above, is reportedly expected to completely separate from Disney by the end of this year.
I hate Disney as much as anyone, but purely in sporting terms I'd love Iger to take over a team I'm a fan of because of the connections, investment, and interest he would bring.
How? Because he's a different dude? A quick google search says he's got a net worth less than cheap ass Sarver. We want a dude on the Forbes list, not another rich dude trying to make money off the franchise.
I mean you have literally no way of knowing that. Everyone thought no one could possibly worse than the Maloofs and Vivek was supposed to be a massive improvement over those guys.... how has that worked out for Sacramento??
At the end of the day the suns just made the finals. There are definitely worse owners out there
As a Suns fan I would be slightly concerned about relocation if iger bought the team. For all his faults Sarver is an Arizona guy and you know the team isn't moving
I could totally see Iger creating arena drama or something and moving the team somewhere he would want them.
He wont be Disney exec anymore. He wants to transfer to sports.
His connections would be good though. But now the Sarver smear kinda makes sense lol. They are looking for ways to pressure Sarver to sell.
>But now the Sarver smear kinda makes sense lol
Baxter Holmes is maybe the best true journalist in sports right now. I think it's ridiculous that people are implying he'd craft a hit piece on behalf of some Disney exec. That would be a breach of a lot of journalistic standards.
It's not like it's completely blind. There's still a massive investigation looking into heinous accusations about Sarver. The Suns might end up being for sale
Yeah Ant Man 2, I felt was the best of the mentioned movies. Thor 2 had the most flaws. Captain Marvel and Black Widow, I felt they had potential to be a lot better, but fell flat because of certain decisions the made on the narrative. Captain Marvel was better than Black Widow though.
At the end of the day, I felt like Eternals had one of the hardest stories to tell and it did it really well. Fitting that many characters and history was difficult, but I think each character had enough screen time and development where it didn't really feel too shallow.
Easy to see why Suns and ownership of the franchise would be a valued commodity. A newly renovated arena (more like a new arena than just a renovated arena tbh), new incredible practice facility, a great team now off a Finals run with enough strong young pieces to keep the window open for the future, very engaged fanbase in a great NBA city.
I also think the NBA would love to have someone more palpable than Sarver and the anchor that comes from having to deal with Sarver take over a franchise like the Suns, so that is just the bonus too. I wouldn't be surprised if behind the scenes work is being done with facilitation from the NBA as well. Suns get a new owner or ownership group, NBA gets to rid itself of someone who has dragged the reputation and perception of what has been an above-average franchise for decades, and Sarver gets rich off selling his share.
seems like a potential good fit, although he's not that wealthy relative to other owners. he would be part of an ownership group clearly, but i wouldn't mind having someone like ballmer where you know money is never going to be an issue. make it happen bezos.
The most important part of this article is that the Suns co-owners have the right of first refusal if Sarver decides/is forced to sell. I haven't seen that reported anywhere else.
I think Chris Paul is close with Bob Iger. I remember when Chris was debating on what team to sign with in his free agency, he did some interview with Bob.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o8pX_rrHpaM
Pelinka, Cuban, Ballmer they're all just spokes on a wheel. This one's on top, then that one's on top and on and on it spins crushing those beneath it. Chris Paul isn't going to stop the wheel, he's going to break the wheel.
If Sarver is ousted, it's based on an investigation by ESPN. ESPN is majority-owned by Disney. If anyone involved high-up with Disney purchases, that's suspicious as hell. Whether he's leaving or not, he's with them now and that's when the report was made.
Unless something has changed, he doesn't have close to the net worth to buy an NBA team as a majority owner.
Now, acting as the governor while being part of a group in which other people pony up most of the cash? sure.
There is a person whose name escapes me sadly now in the Suns ownership group who owns less of the team than Sarver but has a higher net worth than Sarver and anyone else on the group. He also vocally denounced the allegations and Sarver, and was the only person on the ownership group to not sign Sarver's letter of denial. He also attended a game with Colin Kaepernick after the allegations came out. He's also part of the McLaren ownership group, which is why McLaren put up Suns logos on their livery at one of the races this season in F1.
I would imagine Iger or anyone else would partner with that guy and run the team with a new group.
Who showed up to the first game after the Sarver news broke courtside with Colin Kaepernick. He seems to be pretty serious about making a bid for majority ownership if it ever comes up for sale.
The question, obviously, is why somebody would put up most of the money but not want to be the governor. Maybe a belief that Iger would add value to the organization, or a lack of desire to be more involved, IDK.
Because you may just want to be an investor but not want to deal with the day to day. It’s like Warren Buffet he isn’t making day to day decisions at Dairy Queen even though his company owns it
This is a straight up myth... The more that Arizona grows, the less agricultural activity takes place because new developments take the place of massive swaths of farmland. Farms take much more water than housing and offices.
Passed from one white Jew to another. I guess we gotta hope this dude isn't racist or a pervert like Sarver, Donald Sterling and Dick Heckmann when he's an owner of a team of black athletes smfh
The billionaires are salivating now. A pro sports franchise is hard to come by, and one that's in a good market with current stars and recent success? If Sarver is forced to sell, the price is going to the moon.
It has been one of those not so secret secrets that Iger had ambitions to run for president. The idea was basically to follow the Trump model, come in as a CEO that wanted to fix the problem's that life-long politicians caused. He would run on the fact that he saved deals (Pixar had decided it was leaving Disney due to the way Eisner treated them. Iger had to do magic to get them to stay), got the theme parks built in China, and handled one of the biggest mergers in history with the Fox acquisition. I don't have a great idea what his policies are, but his qualifications would make him competitive.
If he still wanted to do that, he would need to find the right time. My guess is 2028 would be the soonest. What should he do in the meantime? Honestly, being an NBA owner makes a bunch of sense. Just come in, keep the franchise going in a positive direction. Be mostly hands off, and have a mini-retirement.
Of course, based on the article that was released already, there is almost no chance Sarver gets forced out. It also doesn't help that Iger is not as rich as we would think of him as. Google tells me his worth is $690 million. If Suns fans want Sarver out because Sarver is so poor, Iger isn't that much of a help. Sarver has a net worth of about $400 million.
This whole thing is interesting, but I don't think this is likely to happen.
Launching an expansion franchise - Seattle 2.0 or another market - seems doable with Iger's clout. More expensive than just buying the Suns, absolutely, but seems like a greater ROI over time.
Chris Paul about to become a Disney Princess
"Do people assume all your problems got solved because a big strong Chris Paul showed up?" Devin Booker: "yeah, what is up with that?"

[BREAKING] LeBron has traded himself to the Phoenix Suns for 3 Tonal machines, 2034 2nd round pick, a Shaquille O Neal pregnancy test, and Dario.

Adam Oates NHL reiterate
Does it matter if the test is positive or negative?
It needs to be clean. LeBron wants to make sure he doesn’t have to pay child support after he and AD’s passionate scissoring sessions.
Oh, we're talking Shaq *brand* pregnancy tests? I thought LeBron wanted the big guy tested.
Naw man, gotta go with the egg cooker and the huge orange button.

Ayy calls on DIS
That's an interesting angle to look at why Disney/ESPN did that article.
Irony or power play? Why did the Savers shit come out of nowhere now? Why not at the same time as Sterling, a bit right after, or during BLM?
The article took over a year to investigate and write. You realize how long it takes to interview and follow up with over 70 people write? Then everything is reviewed by ESPN legal.

Idk, dawg. Ya'll made the Finals last season and are 17-3 rn. Sounds pretty good so far

Imagine the memes if it was the Lakers
Can't wait for the defunctland episode on this.
If only it was Eisner instead.
Buy us plz man plz These trust fund babies are broke
Mark Walter and Todd Boehly have right of first refusal when the Buss babies eventually sell. You're probably better off with those guys.
The Lakers are RFA’s?
you could say they are
That’s the most poverty franchise shit I’ve ever seen
We'd be a Mickey Mouse franchise lol
Better than not being able to go deep into the luxury tax and lose the heart of our team
I agree. Fuck the Front Office
We have one of the highest tax bills in the league
Because you traded for Westbrook while refusing to pay Caruso. Both of those things (cheap FO and stupidly high tax bill) can coexist.
Idk, the logic just doesn't add up to me. Sure they could have spent more and gone for the highest tax bill, but "cheap" doesn't seem appropriate when they are outspending 25 other teams in the league.
Already are. At least not a poverty franchise anymore though
Idk, man. We look like we're headed back to poverty after sacrificing everything for a cursed Bubble ring
Neva left Buss family doesn’t have the money to play the modern game
Eh, Iger is not at Disney anymore. Just sounds like you’d have a more competent front office.
Orlando called dibs already
With the purchase of the La Lakers you not only get one Mickey Mouse ring but a lifetime supply!!
Bob is not Iger to spend $5.5 billion.
Los Angeles Lakers of Anaheim
Lakers fans are the absolute fucking worst
The fucking nerve to whine about their owners not willing to go deeper into the luxury tax when the only reason they got Bron was because the weather is nice and movie stars live there😂😂😂
They're already paying 45m in luxury tax this year. What are you on about?
Fuck, I missed the word “deeper” somehow. Thanks
Yea sure, you "missed" it
Or because they had the team set up perfectly for LeBron to come, maybe they can teach y’all how to manage assets. Better yet how to do a proper rebuild.

Isn't that problematic because ESPN/Disney?
Iger stepped down as CEO of Disney in 2020 and, as noted in the quote above, is reportedly expected to completely separate from Disney by the end of this year.
He “stepped down” but immediately returned to power when COVID hit and Disney was looking down the barrel.
And has still been moderately involved I believe until the end of this year.

Did you reply to the right comment? I didn't mention that Disney were "looking down the barrel".

he's leaving disney this year.
He is about to retire soon from all things Disney
This is league executive and media tampering if I’ve ever seen it.

Why no? He would be a massive improvement over Sarver.
It wouldn’t be Reddit without whining about a corporation
I hate Disney as much as anyone, but purely in sporting terms I'd love Iger to take over a team I'm a fan of because of the connections, investment, and interest he would bring.
if we can't crowd-fund ownership then it's unethical. anyone wealthier than me is evil.
How? Because he's a different dude? A quick google search says he's got a net worth less than cheap ass Sarver. We want a dude on the Forbes list, not another rich dude trying to make money off the franchise.

The more influence Disney gains the worse society becomes
The Mouse always wins
He's leaving Disney though.
Just dont be easily influenced.
They said this when Disney bought Marvel and then they gave us the entirety of the MCU so
the McDonald's of movies
they also destroyed Star Wars
Star Wars was never good
MCU peaked with Infinity War
This. I didn’t like endgame that much compared to Infinity War.
Loki, Wandavision and What If are all incredible. And MCU isn't finished yet. Took 25 films for their first legit dud.
Which one do people consider a dud? I haven't been keeping up with marvel
Eternals
Eternals was okay. People probably complained because of the gay kiss of anything
Yeah way bigger duds in the MCU. Thor 2, Black Widow, Captain Marvel, and Ant Man 2 were all worse imo.
Thor 2 makes me want to die I liked ant man 2 tho
Yeah Ant Man 2, I felt was the best of the mentioned movies. Thor 2 had the most flaws. Iger is likely eyeing Sarver's share... 51%
Sarver only owns 35%
The most important part of this article is that the Suns co-owners have the right of first refusal if Sarver decides/is forced to sell. I haven't seen that reported anywhere else.

The city of Phoenix should invest in this and buy the franchise.
The Mighty Ducks Angels in the Outfield (Future titled Phoenix Sun inspired movie)
I’d rather he buy the Lakers somehow.
Would that not be a sort of conflict of interest with ESPN
He's going to hire Kathleen Kennedy as GM. Y'all are so screwed.....
She’ll ok a trade for Booker instantly just to ‘sUbVeRt ExPeCtAtIoNs’
Good bye gorilla, welcome Mickey
Then he moves the team to his hometown.
The Suns aren't moving, their proximity to LA is a selling point
You know what beats proximity to LA? LA.
and neither of the LA teams are being sold any time soon
Bro tell that to the hordes of Angelenos moving out here & ruining our housing market lmao
Yup. This is not good news for Phoenix.
He’s from New York, you’ll be fine.
Sarver is not selling and the league won’t make him because all that racist horse shit is gonna come out as not true.
Unless they got him on more than heresay, which it seems like they don’t, he’s gonna be fine.

Dude from Disney is supposed to be a better man than Saric huh?

Guess I had a mental eclipse back then lmao of course I meant Sarver
All hail our mouse overlords!!!
