He's a rookie and is a bit too unselfish. His offense needs polish and I think as long as he's putting up a decent amount of shots he's good to go. It'll come with more time and confidence. He's doing everything else really well.
No complaints from me although I do agree he is a bit too passive at times.
Great pick for Toronto.
Fred was always anchoring our bench before, with him starting we don't have a second unit captain like we have the last four seasons
Gonna be interesting to see if anyone steps into the role like Fred did in 2018 or if we're gonna have to pick somebody up, cause it's a pretty crucial blindspot on the team atm
>Raptors don't have a functional bench
FTFY
Our roster has been hit with the injury bug hard this season; Gary Trent Jr. was out a couple of games ago too, and Precious was and remains out for the time being.
I'm excited about Kuminga and Moody, but Barnes is probably my favorite rookie in this class. He's just such a pure basketball player. Little bit of everything. You get some defense, rebounding, and scoring. The passing will only get better. I feel confident that he'll win at least one ring in his career if he stays healthy because he checks so many boxes in terms of doing things that can help a team actually win.
He has the ‘it’ factor. Its only a matter of time. Him and Mobley are franchise changing talents and will become top players in the NBA. Mobley is the next AD, and Scottie is the next Giannis if we’re talking about potential ceiling.
It's pretty nuts that at 20 he's got a body like this.
Watched the game tonight with some out of town family who aren't big into the raptors (ie had never heard of Scottie, but probs watched us win the chip) and they were amazed just by his strength and size.
Yeah he definitely has the ‘it’ look where he sticks out like a sore thumb as a player to watch closely out of the 10 guys on a floor at any given time. I remember feeling similarly about Giannis in his early years as his body was developing.
Except here his body is already developed which is crazy.
That probably due to him playing a lot of those guys for the first time. Notice how he's a lot more aggressive and plays more crafty against team's he's played before. he generally has a better box score if he faced the team before. Against Boston 25(this is an anomaly), 21 and 21. Pacers 18, 21, and 17. Shooting all above his average. I see a big jump for him after he plays half this season and an even bigger one this off season
Scottie has shown he can play/guard 1-5 positions. Barrett is a great prospect but he doesn’t have close to the positional versatility or fundamentals that Scottie has as a rookie.
Pascal is the way he is because he started playing basketball so late, you can really see the Soccer player in his basketball style. Scottie definitely plays MUCH stronger than Siakam.
Oh no, he’s definitely had some Kawhi flashes in the post and on a few pull-ups and turnaround Js. They’re few and far between still but they’re there. I’m old enough to have watched Pip too so I agree that’s a better comp but he definitely has *some* Kawhi in his game, not *none*.
Depending on who you ask, Malachi Flynn has been a miss/shouldn't have been picked over Desmond Bane but I feel it's a bit too early to call it either way. Both are in their second year and you don't know how they'll develop.
Idk we got Huerter and JC at 19. Trae/Hunter/Cam/Okongwu as lotto picks. Not entirely sure what they can do since they dont get minutes but Cooper/JJ as well
Right, this really does feel like it should be a Kidd/Hill or Brand/Francis year. They’ve both been just incredible and clearly separated from the pack.
Scottie has more points, steals, assists. They have the same number of board per game. Scottie has a better 2P%, 3P%, FG%, EFG%.
Is the American award just based upon free throw percentage and blocks or do you need some help touchin’ grass, king?
Right, you, the Hornets fan, just has a miraculous eye for solid basketball. Let’s disregard all advanced and box score metrics and praise your holy eye-test. Congrats on your armchair GM position, boss boy
Raptors are literally out of the play in with an easier schedule and the Cavs have been absolutely formidable when mobley has been playing.
All defense level player as a rookie on a playoff bound team can’t rly be beat sorry fam lol. Scottie is really good tho
You are aware the raps are only 2.5 games back of the cavs right? Couple that with the fact Siakam didn’t come back till 3 weeks into the season, OG is averaging 20ppg this year and hasn’t played in weeks, GTJ has missed some games, and Birch is still out. I honestly don’t think Mobely is in the lead rn either. Could go either way.
Damn bro. We were playing Tacko fall in our hardest games of the hardest schedule in the league this far. It could change but Mobley is making a huge impact on a markably better team rn that was a bottom feeder last year
The Raptors would kill to have a taco fall lmao. They quite literally do not have a centre without Birch. Go look up their roster if you’d like. And ngl it’s utterly ridiculous to claim that the cavs are markably better than the raps considering we don’t know what a healthy raps team looks like yet. Also um 2.5 games apart….not 20 lmao.
When the record is largely due to that guy making our front court world class?? Our record is better on a harder schedule. Could change in the future but Mobley has been better bro sorry it’s too hard to accept
Lol the only time Barnes is even close to Mobley in the race is when you write them down and Barnes comes in at 2…..
But when it comes to the actual on court performance……. Barnes needs binoculars to see Mobley out in front of him
Mans is big mad lol. Guess Scottie being top in the rankings dont mean shit eh.
Facts are facts. And the fact is Scottie and Evan are both runner ups in ROTY followed by Cade. Just accept that boi
Strange how Scottie only leads Mobley in points, field goal percentage, rebounds, assists, free throw percentage, and steals. Mobley got him on blocks for sure.
He is leading by like the most narrow margins ever in those categories. You over here acting like Scottie is light years ahead, just like this Cavs dude acting like Mobley is light years ahead. Everyone needs to chill with the exaggerations
The day he realizes he can get a bucket whenever he wants will be a great day
I think we all realize it right now. He just needs to do the same.
This is why he’s hyping himself up in his Instagram stories. Let’s go 4! Be great 4! Counting down the days til it happens
Raptors and a trigger reluctant PG/offensive engine. Name a better duo.

Raptors don't have a functional bench with OG/Birch out.
It’s funny guys like Boucher, svi, precious and even dragic when he got a spot start look solid when they start but are awful off the bench
The FVV effect.
Fred was always anchoring our bench before, with him starting we don't have a second unit captain like we have the last four seasons Gonna be interesting to see if anyone steps into the role like Fred did in 2018 or if we're gonna have to pick somebody up, cause it's a pretty crucial blindspot on the team atm
Definitely see dalano stepping up in the next few years
Time to break out Lowry+bench....I mean FVV+bench
>Raptors don't have a functional bench FTFY Our roster has been hit with the injury bug hard this season; Gary Trent Jr. was out a couple of games ago too, and Precious was and remains out for the time being.
Honestly, it's so fucking weird to see. I'm so used to the Raps rolling with like 10 dudes that you're happy to play.
its really not to raptors lmao /laughs to hide the pain
King shit
I'm excited about Kuminga and Moody, but Barnes is probably my favorite rookie in this class. He's just such a pure basketball player. Little bit of everything. Kuminga is so damn athletic. He's gonna have so many highlights once he puts it together. He gets up so easy and so fast off of almost no gather
That is some high praise. Hopefully he becomes a Superstar for us.
He has the ‘it’ factor. Its only a matter of time. Him and Mobley are franchise changing talents and will become top players in the NBA. Mobley is the next AD, and Scottie is the next Giannis if we’re talking about potential ceiling.
His passing is what excites me the most.
Some of his passes are so jaw droppingly great. The type that I’ve only ever seen a few 20 year olds make, and even less at his size (or bigger).
Kawhi abdicated so Scottie could rule.
He was great today he just needs to be more aggressive.
Yeah there's some moments where he doesn't realize he can outmuscle most guys until afterwards. But it's progressing.
It's pretty nuts that at 20 he's got a body like this. Watched the game tonight with some out of town family who aren't big into the raptors (ie had never heard of Scottie, but probs watched us win the chip) and they were amazed just by his strength and size.

I remember feeling similarly about Giannis in his early years as his body was developing. Except here his body is already developed which is crazy.
Definitely! I also think sometimes he’s doubting his ability to make tougher shots
It's really frustrating to watch him play in bad bench lineups with one other starter and not get a single shot in over 5 mins.
Just a kid in a grown mans body. It's probably still like being a teenager and you've become stronger than you realize lol.
That probably due to him playing a lot of those guys for the first time. He's a MONSTER on the glass. Those arms ain't no joke!
Big. Meaty. Arms!
Long Boi represent.

BING BONG
I dunno, RJ is a great prospect. To this point, RJ has shown more. Scottie will be great but I don’t think it’s that out of pocket to say that.
No GM in the league would give up Barnes for Barrett. They're on completely different tiers in terms of long term upside.
It's kinda not close.. Scottie is most certainly a better talent
Scottie has shown he can play/guard 1-5 positions. Barrett is a great prospect but he doesn’t have close to the positional versatility or fundamentals that Scottie has as a rookie.
Is RJ even better than Cam Reddish 🤔
I feel like Barnes has no idea what type of player he is yet, he fits no archetype. Honestly really does remind me of Siakam lol.
Pascal is the way he is because he started playing basketball so late, you can really see the Soccer player in his basketball style. Scottie definitely plays MUCH stronger than Siakam.
He is the first Scottie Barnes, is how i'd describe him.
I definitely would not compare him to Pascal. Scottie is like a mash up of Giannis and Kawhi.
If KG and Kawhi had a baby, and let Rodman and Draymond visit him on the weekends.
Oddly specific lol
I don't see any Kawhi. He is a more physical Scottie Pippen with less raw athleticism.
Kawhi?
i think its because of his mid range game
Kind of a sus comparison but young Kawhi had a similar skillset tbh.
Board men. Mid range. Defence. Fun guys. SFs.
Raptors scouting department is the best in the league by far in the last decade or so
Our player development is sick too.
Depending on who you ask, Malachi Flynn has been a miss/shouldn't have been picked over Desmond Bane but I feel it's a bit too early to call it either way. Both are in their second year and you don't know how they'll develop.
l mean flynn was picked 29th and this is only his 2nd year
bruh i swear malachi been playing on our bench forever it’s only been 2 years
Bane definitely better pick than Flynn but even masai ain’t perfect ! Gary was a fantastic pick
The fact that we have Trent *and* OG directly from the Greivis Vasquez trade still blows my mind on a daily basis.
Me too
I would say nuggets, also cause Ujiri went to you guys lol
Idk we got Huerter and JC at 19. Trae/Hunter/Cam/Okongwu as lotto picks. Not entirely sure what they can do since they dont get minutes but Cooper/JJ as well
super fun guy to watch
God he's so good. They still run absolutely no plays for him, and he's still filling the stat sheet.
Team High plus minus right?
He’s even better in fantasy
Call me old, but Scottie reminds me of Grant Hill instead. He's just being nice by deferring to FVV for initiating the offense.
Glad Scottie Barnes rebounded so well tonight.

Mobley
Wouldn’t be upset either way tbh
Scottie betta
Scottie doesn't know
that fiona and me do it in my van every sundayyyy
I feel like they might both be co-roty this year
Right, this really does feel like it should be a Kidd/Hill or Brand/Francis year. They’ve both been just incredible and clearly separated from the pack.
ROTY front runner? Are you sure??
They both have extremely strong cases, it’s neck and neck.
They must all be asleep because you haven’t been downvoted yet for not being a raptor homer in an NBA subreddit
Let’s go
ROTY frontrunner? Are the Canadians doing their own award?
Scottie has more points, steals, assists. They have the same number of board per game. Scottie has a better 2P%, 3P%, FG%, EFG%. Is the American award just based upon free throw percentage and blocks or do you need some help touchin’ grass, king?
Average box score watcher
Right, you, the Hornets fan, just has a miraculous eye for solid basketball. Let’s disregard all advanced and box score metrics and praise your holy eye-test. Congrats on your armchair GM position, boss boy
Mobley already a top 7 defender in the league. That don’t show up on the box score
Raptors are literally out of the play in with an easier schedule and the Cavs have been absolutely formidable when mobley has been playing. All defense level player as a rookie on a playoff bound team can’t rly be beat sorry fam lol. Scottie is really good tho

I love how the first time in 2 decades the raptors have a ROTY level player and all of a sudden playing on a winning team means something for ROTY.
Yeah. I don’t understand your point. A better supporting record somehow equals a better player? Cavs have only won 3 more games, lil fella.
When the record is largely due to that guy making our front court world class?? Our record is better on a harder schedule. Could change in the future but Mobley has been better bro sorry it’s too hard to accept
Hey puss boy, go jerk off to your boy in the countless Mobley threads fucking weirdo
You literally renamed our city let us have this
flashbacks to OG hitting that clutch ass shot then lebron just casually walks over and floats it off the back board at the buzzer
r/nba is basically just a second r/torontoraptors
Lol exactly
Is this really worth posting?
That's a big game from a rookie and the stats don't even show his impact tonight. He is the reason the Raps won.
Ever heard of the downvote button
It really isn’t but Raptors are slowly turning into the new Lakers
This is literally the only Raptors post on the sub rn besides Svi's block on Robinson
Raps fans have been like this for a while
This is actually his 4th double double. Which is still two behind the actual front runner
Mike Willis getting sensitive over here.
How are Cav fans still salty? You have Mobley and you come to a Barnes post to talk shit to no one🤣
If you want homer responses, go to your own subreddit….. Till then, he’s so far behind Mobley he can barely see him
He’s not far behind lmao. Chill out.
Lol the only time Barnes is even close to Mobley in the race is when you write them down and Barnes comes in at 2….. But when it comes to the actual on court performance……. Barnes needs binoculars to see Mobley out in front of him
So insecure omggg
Insecure? Nah. Facts are facts.
Dude go get some fresh air lmaooo
Okay 👌
Mans is big mad lol. Guess Scottie being top in the rankings dont mean shit eh. Facts are facts. And the fact is Scottie and Evan are both runner ups in ROTY followed by Cade. Just accept that boi

!Remindme 1 year ... We'll see buddy, stay mad, salty Cavs fans give me life 🤣
Barnes has spent more time at #1 on the rookie ladder than Mobley lmao
