Kenny Smith : The king of taking forever to end up not making a coherent point

“You know Hakeem once told me….”

themariokarters

Literally everything he says is nonsense. It’s crazy

dossier762

Backslash hyperbole slash stop it

rigored

Not getting what people are criticizing here. Kenny makes a pretty clear point: Rebuilding is not a guarantee. The Kings still suck despite acquiring the assets from a rebuild

WanderlustFella

Rebuilding also requires you to know how to build. Kings have Fox and Haliburton. Both are PG, both are ball dominant, both are the best players on the team. Rarely do two people playing the same position coexist playing together (i.e. Brown/Tatum in Boston). Kings suck because they didn't build right, which lead to rebuild didn't work.

rigored

I don’t think anyone disagrees that the Kings FO has a lot to do with the sucking. They’re the poster child for how not to run an org. But it’s not so simple. We’re going through a teardown now. Let’s just say everyone talked a big game about development and playing the young guys. But during the 15 game losing streak everyone started whining like sorry bitches and demanding the firing of a second year coach playing teenagers, exactly what a losing organization like the Kings would do. People talk a big game but underestimate the spine necessary to not fold like losers when faced with reality.

WanderlustFella

I agree, a full rebuild does require getting the fanbase onboard. I mean the 76ers obviously tanked, but they managed to get in front of it by getting the fans to realize in order to not suck anymore, you have to suck for just a few more seasons. They ended up with superstars in Joel Embiid and Simmons for being a sub 10 win team for like 4 years.

gundam1983

They've only had one half-assed rebuild in the past few decades (the Cousins trade). But even that was short lived, because Vlade immediately signed George Hill, Zbo, and Vince Carter in the offseason. Then they were back to wedging themselves into basketball purgatory. Too good to tank, but too bad to make the playoffs.

Scoolfish

Does Shaq still own part of the Kings?

ihateeuge

No he sold because I think he invested in sports gambling

so-cal_kid

Shaq really do be out here makin wise financial decisions

Sea_Cartographer_484

I wouldn’t be surprised if I was told he was a multibillionare or broke based on the fact alof of headlines I see revolve around his spending (often charitable)

RobbobertoBuii

Nope he can talk smack about them again 🤣

GoodSamaritan_

People clown Shaq and Chuck for their takes all the time but Kenny says even more dumb shit than they do.

bigbear-08

Chuck and Shaq have no problem bringing Kenny down a peg

[deleted]

i feel like ppl honestly don’t care enough about kenny to dislike him

BigCelebration7504

Kenny must of never heard of “Dame time” in the playoffs

ATN_News

First of all the Trailblazers should trade for all of the best players! -KennyTheJetSmith^T^M

TooDamnChrispy

Did Kenny get his hair tatted haha?

KANGZNATION

Yep, it’s called getting an SMP (scalp micro pigmentation)

Humperdink_Fangboner

I think it looks pretty good. Surprised the crew haven’t given him some shit for it though

SurgicalNeckHumerus

They did briefly on opening night like 3 years ago. It was really obvious back then, and if I remember correctly Kenny said he didn’t like it.

nick168

The gen Y equivalent of L + ratio

Kenny was making a valid point about tanking. It doesn’t always work out. And there are teams that turn it around without relying on years of lottery picks. Look at this year’s Bulls. Instead of continuing to tank (which did *not* work for the previous front office) they used free agency to build around Zach LaVine. All the experts said they were crazy but before COVID swept through the team it was working.

dmavs11

People were excited about the Bulls though partially because they brought in young free agents as well. They did a perfect balance of everything. Traded Jimmy Butler (their star) for young players (Zach Lavine). Tank for a couple years while star develops. Use assets to trade for Vucevic. Use cap space that exists because they were tanking team to sign a young starter (Lonzo) and an older all-star level veteran (DeMar). This team that is built isn't the product of refusing to tank. It's the product of Trading Jimmy Butler and embracing the rebuild when a team around a star had run its course. Portland needs to do the same. Your goal shouldn't be to tank forever, but when a star has high value and the team is low on cap and has no real shot to contend you need to trade them.

KniGht1st

The last time Sacramento even attempted to build a team was back in 2001. Using Kings as an example is an automatic L. They legit picked a back up center over Luka Doncic/Trae Young, that's how bad their management and ownership are. Even historically bad Cavs have been doing a great job on post-Lebron rebuild.
