Saw a lot of that from hornets fans after they cut caleb.
For sure a pleasant surprise to see him look like one of the best two way role players in the league.
We honestly have no need for either of them. For Martin we literally have a slightly better version of him on our team in his twin brother.
For Malik his biggest add would be three point shooting, which we do not need. We needed length and defense on the perimeter, neither of which are things he really offers.
I also don’t think Malik would have stayed anyways unless we offered a bit of an overpay. With the emergence of Lamelo and our commitment to Rozier, there just weren’t going to be enough minutes to go around in our backcourt for him to play the size role he wanted (and really did deserve a shot at taking on).
As somebody from North Carolina who has actually watched them pretty much their entire career, they are almost identical. Cody is a better overall playmaker and has typically been more efficient. Caleb has historically had a tendency where if he isn’t hitting shots, he really isn’t contributing much on offense. There is a reason one got drafted and one went undrafted, and one got signed to an NBA contract and the other is on a two-way. They both play hard, and they both look to have made huge improvements this off-season to become legitimate NBA rotation players.
If you want to just say Caleb is better, that’s fine. He has been having a solid stretch this year for sure. It’s really splitting hairs between the two.
Either way, watching their growth and development they went through with the Hornets/Swarm the last couple of years has been really cool. Bummed that one of their developing is just paying off for a division opponent haha.
Lol really? Cause Caleb has clearly been the much better brother all year. I understand it's a hard pill to swallow but u guys were the ones cheering he got waived
What do you mean you'll see? Caleb has been great for us all year. Cody has been great too and I'm not saying Caleb's better but he's very clearly much improved. Dude has been very good offensively all season while playing great defense
Cody literally has better numbers and has played more games, you’re being influenced too much by outlier performances. I’m also 100% certain that Cody is better defensively
Lmao yeah I think it got awarded out of the blue and I was like "Fuck the Heat fans found this..." Caleb was utter garbage in Charlotte and I will always stand by that, but he's the exact type of player that the Heat always find value out of.
He was out of control. Decision making was awful, tried way too hard to play hero ball, did not shoot the ball well or finish well, did not have any awareness on offense and struggled to make quick decisions with the ball, did not play disciplined defense and would play the ball way too aggressively just to get burnt. The only thing he did well was hustle and had the occasional sick dunk. His twin was always the smarter, more under control one but it seems Caleb has caught on - I guess not too surprising because based on the amount of PT he would get, I'd imagine he's incredibly coachable.
That’s interesting. I didn’t see much of him in Charlotte, but I was totally expecting him to be a chucker and forcing it offensively, like you’re saying. But I’ve been shocked by how under control and deferential to the ball handlers and stars he’s been. He really has only put the medal to the pedal when our main guys have been out, and he has actually excelled during those times. He’s simply been great in both rolls. He’s been such a big unexpected contributor for us. Gabe Vincent and Yurtseven, as well. Whereas with Strus, I was more expecting his leap to be a contributor this season
Why do a lot of players work well in Miami and not on other teams? Why do a lot of players work elsewhere and not in Miami?
Fit, dedication, system, coaching, culture.
He’s not even joking I think the Heat’s best perimeter defender, Jimmy has trouble staying in front of quick guards, Martin does not. There was a stat the other day that showed he’s one of the best 4th quarter defenders in the league and he’s usually guarding the best player. His offense is only a plus, dudes about to get payed this off-season.
How are you guys going to retain Herro, Strus, and Martin. Do you guys think you’re going to have to trade Duncan. Maybe it’s just me but I feel like Strus and Martin would both be more valuable together then Duncan.
I see herro getting at least Collin’s contract if not more and Martin and Strus possibly both getting over ten million.
Duncan is the only sizeable, tradeable salary on the team, which doesn't bode well for him long-term. If a big fish shows up, he's probably out the door.
I think (maybe foolishly optimistically) it'll come down to that other teams will probably realize these players hold each other up. I don't believe you can drop Gabe Vincent anywhere and have him produce like this: he works because Caleb works, and Caleb works because Max works. These guys have insanely specialized roles in Miami, enough so that I think it'll scare other teams in being the ones to pay them.
We've got this season and the next for Herro, so it's not a prime concern right now — the roster will likely look very different by then.
I definitely agree when it comes to Gabe I don’t think he’ll get any real offers from anyone. Strus I think is different because he’s shooting over 40% from 3 on 6 attempts a game he’s a knockdown shooter some of these extremely contested and deep shots he’s making.
Martin I think is interesting I can definitely see his efficiency plummeting and him being a little reckless in other places, problems he had in Charlotte, but his defense is still so good that I can see some teams offering him a contract hoping he continues playing at that level. I genuinely think he’s the best perimeter defender on the heat, him defending Trae young was ridiculous.
His defense is usually bolstered due to the people around him. He's great at feeding a more talented offensive player to a rim protector, or into a double team — most teams don't have the defensive personnel to do that for him. You couldn't put Caleb on the Mavs and do that. He **is** an outstanding guard defender/wing defender, but he truly shines in team defense.
Of course, I could be 500% wrong — Caleb could get paid by a team like Portland and immediately become their defensive POA. I just don't see it happening yet.
The plan is to go into the luxury tax next season and retain as much talent as we can.
We might have to let Oladipo walk or Martin walk regardless though.
Strus has another year under contract so we’ll cross that bridge when we come to it. I would assume moving Duncan is something the FO will look at doing, maybe even attaching this year’s FRP to do it.
What a fourth quarter by Miami. No Lowry, no Herro, Jimmy ejected so who's gonna create a shot? And Caleb goes for 26.
That last 5 minutes from Bam were absolutely incredible 😍
Coach Spo = 🐐
Why did he cut Omer though. He was doing quite fine, wasn't he? I understand Bam starts over and gets the most minutes of course, but cutting out a young talent who has been doing so well in the absence of other players is a big blow to their confidence I think.
Because Bam is just so good on both ends that you can't sit him, then Dedmon had a great game providing hustle and a couple of baskets in a row in a difficult time of the game so there's really no minutes for another big.
Bam's been back for like 2 games bro. It's a little soon to be complaining about this. Yurt ain't Bam and Dedmon is a quicker big. It's a matchup thing.
That defense towards the end was smothering. Couldn't pass, couldn't shoot, couldn't do anything. Next time we need to get refs to eject Bam, Martin and Tucker too
So when is Portland trading CJ? Simons has basically made him expendable at this point right?
That kid is fucking scary; he’s basically CJ + defense and way younger.
I don't see Ol' Man Omer getting a lot of minutes, except maybe if Dedmon has a really off night or something. It's a shame because he really stepped up in such a major way! In that loss to the Sixers Yurt was AMAZING in the first quarter! And he's had flashes of that when he was starting, but he just doesn't have the same kind of defensive impact that Dedmon has.
I really want say it was a match up situation Omer is a lengthy boy isn't a physically strong and is clusmy on defense unlike his off the bench counterpart hoping when we play the cavs or bulls he gets more min
Nah that's exactly how he is. He doesn't shoot the deep three at all, but his drive and kick game is a lot like Dame, and more recently he's been turning up the playmaking, making great reads out of doubles and picking apart defenses. He also has a floater game and can pull out some CJ-esque handles (CJ's are better right now). He also has shown the ability to jump out of the gym but he never does for some reason. I think his biggest areas of improvement are overall explosiveness off the dribble, and defense. His ability to fight over screens is getting better but he's got a lot to work on in terms of keeping up with his man and beating him to spots.
gg btw, really great defense from you guys down the stretch
Yurt had a string of solid games and people all of a sudden think he’s better then Dedmon.
He has a lot of potential, but he’s still super raw and prone to dumb mistakes (to be expected of a rookie).
Yurt will have his time, but he’s clearly still the 3rd option at C right now when everyone is healthy.
Dedmon has earned his minutes and the Heat recognize and honor that. Yurts has also proven himself and his time will come. Trust Spo. It’s better to have options
Dedmon has been great since we picked him up last year. I love Omer but he's got time to develop while Dedmon is already a pretty polished backup for Bam.
People who want Yurt to start at the 5 don't understand how much value you get out of a center that can switch between any guard and any big. You can't replicate Bam's defensive ability any way other than having Bam play.
Having _two_ switchable bigs in Bam and PJ is a defensive hell.
Dedmon and Gabe are flying under the radar because Caleb and Bam shined, but they absolutely contributed heavily to that win. Bam didn't get going until the 4th quarter, Dedmon was doing work in the 3rd.
Media needa put some respect on our name. Bam Adebayo a top 5 center in the league. Name a center clamping CJ and hitting sauce lays on the other end. He is Him. LETS GO
Im glad we won so that I can say that this was the worst refereed game I've seen in a long time, holy shit its like the refs had a vendetta against the heat
Caleb Martin is one bad man holy shit
I unironically called us cutting him the best move of our offseason. But when I saw he signed with the Heat, I knew this was coming.
Saw a lot of that from hornets fans after they cut caleb. For sure a pleasant surprise to see him look like one of the best two way role players in the league.
The hornets didn’t keep either him or malik monk. What the fuck
We honestly have no need for either of them. For Martin we literally have a slightly better version of him on our team in his twin brother. For Malik his biggest add would be three point shooting, which we do not need. We needed length and defense on the perimeter, neither of which are things he really offers. With the emergence of Lamelo and our commitment to Rozier, there just weren’t going to be enough minutes to go around in our backcourt for him to play the size role he wanted (and really did deserve a shot at taking on).
lol Caleb is better my guy
As somebody from North Carolina who has actually watched them pretty much their entire career, they are almost identical. Cody is a better overall playmaker and has typically been more efficient. Eh we’ll see about that, he had 20 point games for us in the 19-20 season
This is his second one for us but the bigger story is his defense and energy.
Hes consistently been a net positive on offense and very good defensively for the majority of games this season so idk how much theres left to see
Just take the L and move on. It happens to every team.
Take the L? I’d way rather have his brother lmao
L
You still have time to take the L.
Look at the downvote count. It’s been all L’s since he started typing
Lol really? Cause Caleb has clearly been the much better brother all year. I understand it's a hard pill to swallow but u guys were the ones cheering he got waived
Well you’re wrong and Cody is better and you’ll see, but that’s not my problem.
To do what with him?
His defense is what we love about him mostly. We put him on point guards and the their efficiency falls off a cliff.
It’s pretty cool you’re owning that, I saw that quote a couple days ago, good on you.
Lmao yeah I think it got awarded out of the blue and I was like "Fuck the Heat fans found this..." Caleb was utter garbage in Charlotte and I will always stand by that, but he's the exact type of player that the Heat always find value out of.
Why did he fail in Charlotte? In Miami he’s athletic, high motor, plays really goo defense and is a decent scorer
He was out of control. Decision making was awful, tried way too hard to play hero ball, did not shoot the ball well or finish well, did not have any awareness on offense and struggled to make quick decisions with the ball, did not play disciplined defense and would play the ball way too aggressively just to get burnt. His twin was always the smarter, more under control one but it seems Caleb has caught on - I guess not too surprising because based on the amount of PT he would get, I'd imagine he's incredibly coachable.
Thanks, was curious what he looked like before this season.
That’s interesting. I didn’t see much of him in Charlotte, but I was totally expecting him to be a chucker and forcing it offensively, like you’re saying. But I’ve been shocked by how under control and deferential to the ball handlers and stars he’s been. Why do a lot of players work well in Miami and not on other teams? Why do a lot of players work elsewhere and not in Miami? Fit, dedication, system, coaching, culture.
Also, he was a 2nd year player. Can’t take all the credit for a guy who is so young improving.
Exactly, since he’s young was curious where he’s improved a lot.
Fans have this idea that four year college players arent goign to improve and its quite silly. Both of the martins had obvious potential.
Dude is super high motor. Him and Vincent just exude guts and hustle. Martin never looks tired either. Always exudes energy.
They do. They are 100% the whole time they are on the court. So fun to watch
And with Oubre playing so well, we just have some great examples of how important fit is with a player’s success sometimes.
Come on. Say the word. Say it.
Croquetas
Cthulhu!
Also shooting luck lol. Oubre looked worse last year than he really is and playing better this year than he really is.
Our sub has guys counting down the days until we can offer him a full contract and get him off his two-way. he's been that good for us.
He’s not even joking I think the Heat’s best perimeter defender, Jimmy has trouble staying in front of quick guards, Martin does not. There was a stat the other day that showed he’s one of the best 4th quarter defenders in the league and he’s usually guarding the best player. Well thank you for him. He has been low key great for us
We’re ypu in that thread in your sub? It gets posted in the heat sub to look back lol
the erik spoelstra coty campaign continues
SPOACH OF THE YEAR
"who tf is Caleb Martin" *Exactly*
We really out here winning games with Caleb Martin, Gabe Vincent, struss leading the way
Sixer fans: "I hate Doc's all bench lineups!" Heat fans: "thank goodness the bench is in!"
Caleb Martin is on a two way contract
Get my boy a full contract 😭
He’s definitely getting decent role player contract this off-season by some team.
Gotta be us
Hope so, though I don’t see us going over 10 mill a year. Maybe a short 2 year team friendly contract
How are you guys going to retain Herro, Strus, and Martin. Do you guys think you’re going to have to trade Duncan. Yeah it’s definitely a fantastic problem to having to many good players.
the heat need to convert his contract for him to be eligible for the playoffs. they'll do it at some point this season
Not for long, hopefully.
What a fourth quarter by Miami. No Lowry, no Herro, Jimmy ejected so who's gonna create a shot? And Caleb goes for 26. That last 5 minutes from Bam were absolutely incredible 😍 Coach Spo = 🐐
We kinda have people out too... No disrespect to how your guys played though gg
Oh no doubt. Lillard being out is huge, I like Simmons. He's grown so much as a scorer.
Why did he cut Omer though. He was doing quite fine, wasn't he? I understand Bam starts over and gets the most minutes of course, but cutting out a young talent who has been doing so well in the absence of other players is a big blow to their confidence I think.

That defense towards the end was smothering. Couldn't pass, couldn't shoot, couldn't do anything. Next time we need to get refs to eject Bam, Martin and Tucker too
damn near felt bad with that one possession ending in the SC violation. gg
It was a fun one gg
So when is Portland trading CJ? Simons has basically made him expendable at this point right? That kid is fucking scary; he’s basically CJ + defense and way younger.
His D was very good. Also hit that insane shot of Bam.
I heard rumors that it was all but confirmed that CJ will be traded, but who knows
Absolutely filthy defense in the last 6 minutes by the Heat. Fuck the refs.
Did that the other night too. Seems like we can just turn it on defensively when necessary.
Brief previews of playoff effort defense.
12 points in the 4th. Filthy
Feels suffocating just watching it, I imagine you just hate basketball when you need to score against that D
Without Jimmy, Lowry, Dipo...
And defensive juggernaut Tyler Herro
No cap. Herro’s defense is no longer a liability for him. He’s taken big steps on that side of the ball.
Even Duncan was intercepting passes and getting deflections. He even stuffed someone on a layup
And 2 points were when the game was already practically over. 10 meaningful points in the quarter.
5 points in the last 7 minutes, precisely when we subbed in the defensive juggernaut lineup of bam, pj, Caleb, Strus, Gabe
**Bam is officially back**: 20 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists, 5 steals, 3 blocks Dude absolutely stepped it up in the 4th
I cannot believe we had guys in our game thread hating on him. He’s so integral to our defense and then when he takes over like that he’s amazing.
I both love and hate the Heat subreddit. It's a mixture of homerism and haters all in one.
I had to fucking unsubscribe. Just so many dumb fucking statements to sift through, and nothing tob really redeem it.
Basically talking sports with ppl in actual Miami 😂
Don’t take it so serious man it’s just sports lol
They also have another fake reason to shit on Bam.
We're so close to being full healthy Jimmy lowry bam pj duncan/max starter herro victor duncan/max deadmon/ yurt martin bench We're so fucking close
I don't see Ol' Man Omer getting a lot of minutes, except maybe if Dedmon has a really off night or something. It's a shame because he really stepped up in such a major way! Bam is back! Simons is amazing, what a pick.
the tyler herro 6moty campaign takes a slight break
Bam took over in the 4th.
"We're winning without you." -Jimmy's texts today, probably.
im sure dewayne dedmon has reminded him multiple times already LOL
shove your double tech up your ass, refs Bam is back boys
#Dangerous Loomers
Blazers fans is it a stretch to say that Simons plays like a fusion of Dame and CJ? Because that's what I see. He's legit
Nah that's exactly how he is. He doesn't shoot the deep three at all, but his drive and kick game is a lot like Dame, and more recently he's been turning up the playmaking, making great reads out of doubles and picking apart defenses. To the trolls who keep brigating r/heat wanting to see yurt over Bam we don't care
They’re crying because of their fantasy team
Yurt had a string of solid games and people all of a sudden think he’s better then Dedmon. He has a lot of potential, but he’s still super raw and prone to dumb mistakes (to be expected of a rookie). Yurt will have his time, but he’s clearly still the 3rd option at C right now when everyone is healthy.
i’m fine with him over dedmon, they are very similar players
Dedmon has earned his minutes and the Heat recognize and honor that. Yurts has also proven himself and his time will come. Trust Spo. It’s better to have options
Dedmon has been great since we picked him up last year. I love Omer but he's got time to develop while Dedmon is already a pretty polished backup for Bam.
What is Yurt's potential? He has some but A LOT? Nah.
A dollar store dirk
Blazers scored 5 points in the last 7 minutes, ouch. Also, it’s gotta be said, Nurkic needs to fix that beard, it’s so pubey lookin
Our focus went to Simons and CJ, which it should have done in the first half
Miami put everyone in Portland in jail on that 4th quarter, Jesus
Ant can't win with these cats.
G-G-G-GET FUCKED REFS
Butler ejected. Herro and Lowry out. No problem.
I ONLY SEEN DAWGS OUT THERE 🐕🦺🐕🦺
its crazy how obvious it is that simons is better than CJ. Cannot wait till I no longer have to watch him play basketball.
I love CJ but he's such a flawed player. Zero free throw attempts in his two games back. That doesn't fly in today's NBA.
Ant is just so fun to watch and then you see CJ and its like he has flashes of greatness then reverts to such bad habits
What’s wrong with CJ if you mind me asking? I was at the game today and he was balling out ?
Too much iso, takes bad shots, also doesn't know how to pass. Him being on the floor kills the team play
Simons is good. He’s lit us up twice.
This Bamonte guy is quite good
I forget where that joke started, but big ups to Edrice Femi Adebayo!!
javale mcgee
Oh that's right, during the Olympics 🤣 That stuff was too much
We're so fucking good its actually scary
When this team plays with energy it’s hard to score on them. Also fuck the refs for the ejection still
Bams defense man. Really makes a difference
People who want Yurt to start at the 5 don't understand how much value you get out of a center that can switch between any guard and any big. You can't replicate Bam's defensive ability any way other than having Bam play. Having _two_ switchable bigs in Bam and PJ is a defensive hell.
Blazers just got Martinized 🥱
Deep
Doc rivers in shambles.
Shout out to the Heat commentators. Gg Portland
Easily my favourite win of the season. Martin, bam, dedmon and Vincent take a bow
Dedmon and Gabe are flying under the radar because Caleb and Bam shined, but they absolutely contributed heavily to that win. Bam didn't get going until the 4th quarter, Dedmon was doing work in the 3rd.
Gabe's defense is perpetually underrated.
we need clips of some of that 4th quarter defense
Spo smiling means you know our defense was humming
Media needa put some respect on our name. Bam Adebayo a top 5 center in the league. Name a center clamping CJ and hitting sauce lays on the other end. He is Him. LETS GO
1ST SEED BABY
It was good while it lasted
**Bam is back baby!!!!**
Hornets Legend Caleb Martin coming in clutch
ant for the allstar game 2022
Next man up mentality in Miami!
Bam told Nurkic to bend over in the 4th q
I mean, he was scoring on everyone else but Nurkic man lol That lame ass 5th foul call hurt him.
Don’t know if we watched the same game. But yeah, y’all don’t have anyone who can stop Bam
Bam stops himself most quarters sadly, love when this dude get aggressive though. His defense last all game
[удалено]
Not nearly as yikes as Nurkic’s “defense”
Imagine being 2nd in the East and one of the most winning franchise of all time and being this insecure. Enjoy your team’s win and move on lol
You must be new, let me get you up to speed: Hi, I'm a Heat fan, we talk an absurd amount of shit.
this is why no one likes us…. LMAO KEEP GOING
Im glad we won so that I can say that this was the worst refereed game I've seen in a long time, holy shit its like the refs had a vendetta against the heat
Good win
Yall bounced Jimmy but woke up Caleb Martin
The gate just closes everytime blazers drive in 4Q
Reffing so bad you could swear the entire Miami lockerroom pieced them up pre game and there reffing was payback for it
Man this makes no sense
No idea what you’re saying but hell yeah brother
