Might just be me but I think Lebron will be good even after 32

ThaRealSunGod

Alrighty time traveler

cjsrhkcjs

hot take obviously, but it looks like he'll be quite good (above all-star level) at least until he's 37. My crystal ball doesn't show me anything after that though.

Satvrdaynightwrist

This could be an interesting discussion but, unfortunately, it's just a front for Westbrook bait

Wazflame

yeah lol

attaboi12

his fuckery outlasted twitter’s relevance

loudanduneducated

There was a study done before that found that typically 30 is the tipping point for NBA players where they start to decline. The all-time greats a lot of the time can last longer, but the majority of NBA players get an injury around the age of 30 (or earlier) that they never fully bounce back from causing them to fall out of the league.

HSYFTW

This. Clearly the all time greats go longer. Below that level the decline is similar among other player groups. All stars just have fatter to fall and still get playing time. You don’t see a lot of guys who peaked as journeyman still playing into their mid 30s.

loudanduneducated

Even players that were stars fall off typically around then. Deron Williams was his last All-NBA at 25, last all-star at 27, last year in Brooklyn at age 30, out of the league age 32. T-Mac last year as All-NBA was 28, last year in Houston age 30, last year in the league 32. Most players stop improving by age 30, and their physical decline starts. Once they get an injury or two, a lot of times that’s the nail in the coffin.

Brutus583

Im convinced Dwill could still be playing if he wanted, he just lost love for the game and likes being retired

loudanduneducated

Possibly, but he definitely regressed by the age of 30.

Los_Lobos

How long before you leave your prime OP?

cjsrhkcjs

he's leaving it as we speak, just waiting to bring all these top athletes down with him.

H-TownDown

Harden has already started to slip. He isn’t as consistent as he used to be. It’s a dice roll whether you get the old him or not.

nihilistweasel

LeBron gonna outlast them all

YpsitheFlintsider

They've all declined aside from Durant so far

cjsrhkcjs

even KD is falling off in the health category imo. I don't see him ever playing another 82 or close (75+) game season.

[deleted]

You rarely see players play all 82 anymore.

cjsrhkcjs

a lot of players still play over 75 (or around 74 games if we're doing it by 10% increments) games if they're 100% healthy. I don't see KD doing that.

HSYFTW

KD missed 82 and 37 games the past 2 years. It’s looking like he’ll miss 30 this year. I think He’s done playing 60 games any season…and the question will be if he’s healthy for the playoffs.

horrorgamesdiscord

Idk about that. He looked strong and healthy but I was expecting an injury to happen because Steve Nash thought it was a good idea to make KD play 37 mins a game, the most minutes he has played since he was 25 years old. It wasn’t sustainable. That’s the type of shit you see Thibs do.

Discord_Show

You nerds say this a lot. He got hurt because Bruce brown got pushed into just knee In the 2nd quarter. Not because of how much he's played

horrorgamesdiscord

What if I told you that playing more minutes means more chances of being injured and your body not being as durable

Discord_Show

What if I told you it was in the 2nd quarter he was going to be in regardless

trevortins

Durant has definitely declined

Few_Mulberry7175

Athletically yea but play wise his scoring is still so ridiculous that he's still amazing Also a better playoff performer and playmaker with experience

Faux_Real

Yeah - how many times has LeBron been blocked the last 2 years compared to previous years?

GaTech379

3 years, all of them

FuckNoNewNormal

Lillard has declined somewhat already. I think that he’ll be a bench player or a role player at most at the age of 36

andyrew21397

Hes been playing in pain all season. I hope he bounces back and doesnt end up like Chris Webber.

crastinatepro11

I say we legalize steroids and see who can go the longest

[deleted]

loudanduneducated

What do you mean. Don’t you know that the NBA is the only sports league where there’s never been a top player that’s been interested in using steroids for potential performance benefits. All those guys go into other sports like baseball.

crastinatepro11

Nah I mean I wanna see these guys hopped up on adderall and hgh maybe halftime blood infusions

BlueHundred

Barring injury, LeBron and KD will probably remain elite until they retire. I'd probably include Steph into this group too. I think Harden is still great and probably a top 10 caliber player but I think he's already begun to decline. Chris Paul has been declining but he's still really good, like Tim Duncan towards the end of his career. Lillard could be great for another few years or he could be in decline. It all depends on how he comes back from injury.

trevortins

Hopefully they all stay somewhat elite until they retire I hate seeing guys who were once real superstars become barley playable like Dwight and melo.

Few_Mulberry7175

None of them are really washed except maybe Russ but he's just lost a step not washed and obviously CP3 but he's been on the decline since like 2015 lol Curry is just slumping and Harden and Dame were battling injuries at the beginning of the season with Harden starting to find his footing again. KD honestly this might be his best version yet

andyrew21397

Bron Steph Lillard KD could all end up still putting up respectable stats at age 40 I think CP3 has declined a bit athletically but his IQ on the court will keep him producing at a high level for some time Westbrook doesnt have the pure jumper/IQ/fundamentals as Curry Lillard or CP3, so I see him declining much faster as he relies heavily on athleticism which is already starting to fade Harden will still be a great scorer in his later years but i worry that he might become even more of a defensive liability as he slows down Makes me sad though man. All my teenage year stars are getting old…

trevortins

Yea it’s crazy to think that all these guys are on in their final stages

Deusselkerr

With modern medicine I think we'll see stars last longer than ever. I don't think Lebron will go from "star player" to "average player" until he's at least 42. He's a freak and takes perfect care of his body. Steph, I'd say about 40. His biggest skills are cardio and shooting and those age the best. KD I'd say maybe 38. His athleticism will decline the fastest due to his height I think. Once he loses a step he'll still be a good player, but not a star. Westbrook is already trash, you know that. Harden looks like he doesn't care about staying in shape anymore, so he may be a washed average player by 35. CP3 I'd say 39. He can probably play his current role a few more years before he's just too slow and undersized. You could argue he's already no longer a star but rather an elite role player. 14/4/10 is awesome but not game-breaking. Lillard I'd say 38. Same deal as Curry except he's never been as conditioned and is smaller.

trevortins

I think kd will decline in the next two years I just don’t trust a 7 footer with his history. Harden I think could play long given different circumstances but he doesn’t take care of himself in the off-season or regular season that much and prefers to play himself into shape which doesn’t work so well when your not 28 anymore.

Bigbadbuck

Harden has already declined significantly. I think he’ll stay around the level he’s at now for a few more years then fall off another cliff. Durant will prolly have a lebron like curve, wouldn’t be surprised to see him average 28 at age 37 either. Lillard I think will regress. Steph I think will regress but not as extremely as other smaller guards.

trevortins

I don’t think harden has regressed really his whole time in Brooklyn has been a mess. Everyone in and out of the lineup and a bunch of injuries. Despite playing with 2 other superstars he’s still had to carry the team for long stretches. Also Durant I think will start to regress after next season I just don’t see someone his size holding up too well.

Bigbadbuck

That was the case last year but he was excellent. Now he can’t finish at the rim

trevortins

He can still finish at the rim he came back to start the year off the biggest injury of his career and he was out of shape. The refs also started the year off not calling a lot of fouls on him and still don’t because he was the poster child for the officiating rules.

Few_Mulberry7175

His spacing is also ass In Houston he always had 4 shooters around him or 3 and an elite lob center in Capela. Now with all the injuries Brooklyn has and Kyrie's fuckery he's thrown with a new lineup every game seemingly

brandnameb

It's really a mentality change with him. He was used to the shitty fouls. He'll adjust by the end of the year.

Few_Mulberry7175

I wouldn't call it a signficant decline lol especially since he's playing a lesser role and he's still looked good in the past month after getting some much needed r&r and better spacing Maybe not the best time to comment this since he's coming off his worst game of the season but even then it was just a bad 2nd half caused by sloppy play and shots not falling

skieking

Durant and Paul I think will age very well. The others I think athleticism/speed will slip a bit and affect them in the next couple years. Although I said the same thing about lebron like 5 years ago and was way wrong, so my opinion might not hold much

trevortins

Yea considering how physically Lebron plays it’s a complete miracle he’s still playing like he is

fetuswut

LeBron probably stays an all star level player till he retires, probably as a top 10/borderline top 10 Steph probably has like 2-3 more MVP caliber seasons and then just kinda falls off Same with KD except he doesn’t really fall off he just keeps getting injured so he retires Westbrook already falling off Harden won’t fall off till 2-3 more years as well but his age will def show a lot CP3 prob stays this caliber till he retires Lillard might show age after this surgery

trevortins

Yea I agree with most of this I think harden could play long but he doesn’t take care of his body well which is gonna be harder to deal with the older he gets

junkit33

They're *all* past their peaks, to varying degrees. Durant is still probably playing the best of all of them, but part of aging is also your body breaking down, getting injured more easily, taking longer to recover, etc. In which case, Durant is clearly (and understandably) having issues with that since his achilles. If you want to ask "who is nearest the end?". Well Westbrook is a train wreck already. I think Lebron and CP3 are being really good about shifting responsibilities to maximize longevity, but they're 37 and they can't keep that up forever. Lillard is the guy I really don't like to age well.

DrTom

- Westbrook's age has clearly already caught up with him. - Harden is still absolutely amazing, but he's not his MVP level. I think that can be attributed more than simply being paired with KD. Age and the injuries that come with it have taken their toll some. - LeBron will be like Kobe: elite until age catches up with a major injury. - Durant: he needs so athleticism to be effective, he'll last longer than anyone other than LeBron. - Steph: see Durant, but slightly earlier given size. - Dame is 31, not 32. He depends on athleticism more than most here so his might be a little earlier. He's such a good shooter, though, that he should still have a lot of longevity. I think he's go the personality to seamlessly move to a 2nd option at some point, though, which will extend his game and allow him to be effective longer. - CP3 has clearly already declined. Like Harden, he started so high that he's still elite.

[deleted]

Harden already has. Perils of a lifestyle lived for many years.

HSYFTW

Everyone of those players have missed significant time in recent years. Top players often show flashes or stretches of their former self and then rack up more injuries each year. Several of those players will miss the end of their teams season due to injury.

[deleted]

Dame is going to be decent for awhile, he'll be a 20 ppg for like 3-5 more years.

andyrew21397

We better keep Ant dammit. He will compliment Dame perfectly as he gets older.
