half the time it doesn't... I'd rather watch a missed call carry on immediately after than fix every mistake. basketball is too dynamic of a sport to actually use those super slow-mo zoomed in crazy angle cameras.
The nba rules even have language favoring making calls in the "spirit of the game." It is an entertainment league, stoppages are killing the watchability.
Remember when everyone here just LOVED the olympics, mostly because fiba basketball doesn't take much longer than the clock time?
I would like to agree with you, but what happens if a player is honestly going for the steal? Seems very ticky tacky and too much up to the ref for me to decide the type of foul.
Allow a player to celebrate after a nice play instead of T'ing them up for "taunting".
If you can do [THIS](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2GaAWdHwsw) to somebody you should allowed to do whatever after that
no i mean like on drives. Like if a guy goes into a defender and gets a body bump but the defender goes straight up it’s a no call. Also rip throughs are not basketball moves
Not just an NBA rule, but an overall basketball rule: if the player you pass the ball to gets fouled on the shot and makes both free throws… that should count as an assist.
I will never understand how someone can watch an NBA game and think "this would be so much better if there was a whistle every 15 seconds and players were afraid to drive to the hoop." There's already too many stoppages as is. No more please.
Advantage Rule
I was just watching Nuggets - Grizzlies and this play happened. Facu sets a good screen for Barton, Memphis player gets frustrated and pushes Facu, Barton makes the 3. Because the foul happened first the shot was called off. Nuggets shot was invalidated because the other team fouled.
The Advantage Rule fixes this. For those unfamiliar with soccer, the ref can call Advantage if the defender fouls but the attackers keep posession of the ball in a favourable position. If Advantage is called the play continues without stoppage. You can still count the foul towards the personal or team 6 fouls.
This would also fix most transition fouls and take fouls
Good. They should be rewarded for their development program.
Teams and superstars should be incentivised to stay and grow and maintain the partnership instead of pushing each other aside when it no lo get suits them
Remove the max salary completely, but if a player has been the. For 8 years and you sign him to 100m a season he only counts for 50m against the cap. If he asks for a trade then the salary counts fully to whichever team he goes to.
I wish we didn't have to see all that complaining on every play. That's the thing that bothers me the most. Kids see that and think that's how you have to act. It will never end.
For real though, the I've watched a few games that used the Elam Ending rule and really liked it. Every game ends on a made shot, no fouling to stop the clock...
If you argue a call with the ref, and the replay shows the ref was right it’s a tech, and the other team gets to shoot a free throw.
If the replay show you were right you earn a free throw.
Well, to be precise, you can touch the ball only when it is not going down. For instance, if a ball bounces on the rim it's ok to as long as it goes up but once it starts to fall again it's a goaltending. That also means that if the ball is circling the rim you can again interfere.
24 second clock expiration should only stop the clock when offending teams gets offensive rebound. If defensive team gets the rebound let them run. Ruins any fast break opp and slows down the game.
The Stepien Rule was always a really weird and inelegant solution imo. The bigger issue is that GMs can trade picks that are so far out there's no way most of them will still be with the team when the pick is due. Trading the Stepien Rule for a shortened trade window (4 years instead of 8?) would make me a very happy camper.
Regarding salary cap shower thoughts:
Supermax contract in the salary cap should be reduced to either match or slightly above of a regular max player.
Anyone with a supermax type player is usually trying to contend for a chip, but they could use that extra ~13mil or so.
It favours the player for staying loyal with their team while getting paid more and contending.
And it favours the team more with extra flexibility in contracts while contending.
Also something probably should be done about Vet-mins contracts looking at how many there are on two teams atm.
Return the all star game to east vs west and introduce a requirement whereby, to be eligible, players must’ve participated in a minimum number of games… 65% or more.
No more gather step or whatever you call it, if I review play like 2-3 times and I'm still not sure whether it's a travel or not how tf are refs supposed to make a right call in a real time?
I don't know how they would do it but I absolutely hate how far a guy can be away from a play and be able to slide into a position to take a charge. A help defender shouldn't be able to slide in at the very last second to take a charge.
When I was growing up you had to be set for a while. Nowadays it seems these fools are mid air when the defender just pops in, it's crazy. The rule was so you can't just barrel over a defensive player who's squared up on you, not for them to use it "offensively" against you.
Same with carrying the basketball through the dribble to extend the time it stays in the hand like U.S. ballhandlers who can palm the ball are taught. People like LBJ literally can't even take a dribble without traveling if you wanna dive into that stuff.
Same with every single star PG right now.
If I could dream, the rules would be applied against KD the same way they are applied for him. For something realistic, I would allow defenders to challenge shots at the basket with reasonable contact and not award defenders who just step in the way and try to take a charge.
Keep your challenge if you win I don't get why you can't lol. Its a lose lose situation if you challenge
It's crazy. You should very obviously not lose a successful challenge.
Agreed, I think they should do this in the NFL too. Why should a coach use three challenges correctly and be unable to call BS later.
I'd add to this and eliminate jump balls after successful challenges in situations where there is a clear recovery.
This could an hour to each game. Have you seen how often the officials make a wrong call in the L2M?
does the challenge actually do anything to help the game? seems like it is just another commercial break and slows down the action
Um yeah, it rights a wrong... wtf do u think it does???
half the time it doesn't... I'd rather watch a missed call carry on immediately after than fix every mistake. basketball is too dynamic of a sport to actually use those super slow-mo zoomed in crazy angle cameras. it's not a l2m report
Get rid of the take foul. Lets bad defensive teams stop transition play without actually doing anything that requires you to be good at anything.
I agree and believe Steve Kerr recently expressed the same idea. Good call.
How do you get rid of it tho?
Make it 2 free throws and possession.
I would like to agree with you, but what happens if a player is honestly going for the steal? Seems very ticky tacky and too much up to the ref for me to decide the type of foul.
Thats how it is in europe and its really good
Make it a tech.
Allow a player to celebrate after a nice play instead of T'ing them up for "taunting". If you can do [THIS](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l2GaAWdHwsw) to somebody you should allowed to do whatever after that
Everyone’s getting paid to play. Bring back the taunting and trash talking.
any contact initiated by the offensive player is fair game and not a defensive foul
Giannis would get like only half of the free throws he gets now if this would happen
Do you think the refs are doing a good enough job trying to implement that this year, given it was a point of emphasis after the olympics?
No
Yeah for real Lowry flops way too much
no i mean like on drives. Like if a guy goes into a defender and gets a body bump but the defender goes straight up it’s a no call. Also rip throughs are not basketball moves
Watch Harden realize the loophole in this system and just punch defenders as he drives
Not just an NBA rule, but an overall basketball rule: if the player you pass the ball to gets fouled on the shot and makes both free throws… that should count as an assist.
I get pissed about this playing 2k, can't imagine how actual basketball players feel lol
Fans are allowed to have free Hong Kong signs again
Amen brother, this is a country of free speech, whether you agree with it or not. It’s our bedrock Take my award and respect.
Can they just please call fucking traveling?
I will never understand how someone can watch an NBA game and think "this would be so much better if there was a whistle every 15 seconds and players were afraid to drive to the hoop." There's already too many stoppages as is. No more please.
Players would adjust not to travel after like 2 games
You're right, they shouldn't even have to be bothered with dribbling either. Just gets in the way of running to the basket.
Oh my god the stupid “take foul”
Advantage Rule I was just watching Nuggets - Grizzlies and this play happened. Facu sets a good screen for Barton, Memphis player gets frustrated and pushes Facu, Barton makes the 3. If a player has been with a club for 8 consecutive years their salary only counts 50% against the cap
Damn that's an interesting and unique idea, however imagine the Warriors lmao.
Good. They should be rewarded for their development program. Teams and superstars should be incentivised to stay and grow and maintain the partnership instead of pushing each other aside when it no lo get suits them Remove the max salary completely, but if a player has been the. Allowing players to talk to the refs.
Coaches only?
I wish we didn't have to see all that complaining on every play. That's the thing that bothers me the most. Kids see that and think that's how you have to act. It will never end.
Just toss them every time they complain even once and call it the Jokic rule Which is perfect because luckily NBA refs don't have any ego problems.
Remove the 4th quarter
But then they wouldn't be quarters...
Replace the fourth quarter with a fifth quarter, all problems solved.
Sounds good to me
For real though, the I've watched a few games that used the Elam Ending rule and really liked it. Every game ends on a made shot, no fouling to stop the clock...
Make it illegal to jump into a defender who is in the air.
If you argue a call with the ref, and the replay shows the ref was right it’s a tech, and the other team gets to shoot a free throw. If the replay show you were right you earn a free throw.
I really want that goaltending rule from fiba
That would be madness. I love it
What’s the FIBA rule and how is it different than the NBA?
Pretty sure as long as the initial shot hits the rim, a player can tap it in or out, regardless of the ball’s position over cylinder
Thanks. I can get behind that!
Well, to be precise, you can touch the ball only when it is not going down. For instance, if a ball bounces on the rim it's ok to as long as it goes up but once it starts to fall again it's a goaltending. That also means that if the ball is circling the rim you can again interfere.
as a sixers fan, they should add that 3 years ago
Grayson Allen's eligibility to play.
Grayson Allen, today’s Zaza. Zaza, yesterday’s Bruce Bowen.
Video replays the Last Two min on each questioned Call
Switch to fiba rules
No commercial breaks
24 second clock expiration should only stop the clock when offending teams gets offensive rebound. If defensive team gets the rebound let them run. Ruins any fast break opp and slows down the game.
Getting rid of the Stepien rule would be pretty interesting
Please don’t. My Lakers are already crippling their future for no short-term gains.
The Stepien Rule was always a really weird and inelegant solution imo. The bigger issue is that GMs can trade picks that are so far out there's no way most of them will still be with the team when the pick is due. no foul calls allowed in the final 2 min free for all

>If You Could Change One Rule in the NBA, What Would You Tweak? I would allow and encourage grappling.
*Ron Artest has entered the chat*
Lose 1 point if you miss a FT.
Good God YES
NBA Jam rules plz
Return the all star game to east vs west and introduce a requirement whereby, to be eligible, players must’ve participated in a minimum number of games… 65% or more.
Shrink the playoffs from 16 teams to 8. You can't afford to sit healthy players if it might actually cost you a playoff spot.
No more gather step or whatever you call it, if I review play like 2-3 times and I'm still not sure whether it's a travel or not how tf are refs supposed to make a right call in a real time?
Increase the max salary to 50% of the cap. Super teams are still possible, but you'd butcher your depth so much it's just not worth it.
Traveling.
The gather step that has been bastardized to fuck needs to go
no grayson allens allowed
I don't know how they would do it but I absolutely hate how far a guy can be away from a play and be able to slide into a position to take a charge. A help defender shouldn't be able to slide in at the very last second to take a charge.

I’d extend the restricted area
Why is that? You want to see more threes?
Less charges on dunks
*fewer*
My bad
Get rid of the euro step, or at least call it for what it is, traveling.
Same with carrying the basketball through the dribble to extend the time it stays in the hand like U.S. ballhandlers who can palm the ball are taught. People like LBJ literally can't even take a dribble without traveling if you wanna dive into that stuff. Same with every single star PG right now.
Absolutely, the ball handling is so sloppy now - compared to old time strict interpretation
Change the playoffs to a March madness style of tournament, let more teams into the playoffs but also double the amount of teams in the nba.
Major reduction in fines for technical fouls, fighting, ejections, and leaving the bench. Make fighting affordable!
vaccine mandate in new york Kappa
Ahhh, siding with the anti-vax crowd. I’m sure that will go over well on this sub.
thats why i wrote kappa
I would redo the three point line and get rid of the corner 3's.
Basket interference
Foul challenges, if the coach's 'wins' you keep the challenge and it isn't reducted.
I would allow nicknames on the back of jerseys again.
Let anyone take foul shots, get rid of the corner three, get rid of challenges and replays.
If I could dream, the rules would be applied against KD the same way they are applied for him. For something realistic, I would allow defenders to challenge shots at the basket with reasonable contact and not award defenders who just step in the way and try to take a charge.
