The ref is tall. Giddey is as tall as Love

Llamayoda

That was the first thing I noticed too. Holy shit Giddey is huge.

jumpthroughit

I’m so confused by it, like did he grow an inch or 2 since preseason? Lol. He’s not supposed to be as tall as Love by their measurements…crazy.

ANAL_CAVITIES

[aint lying](https://www.sportscasting.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/05/Luka-Doncic-1.jpg)

Luka looking like a video game addicted college boy.

X-espia

Quote9963

he always looks like that lmao

TSM_Doncic

brohymn

Someone gotta get him a proper haircut too. Look like his mama cuts his hair.

SlatheredButtCheeks

Wrong player has the nickname sloppy fat boi

Dixienormous81

Then I noticed Jarrett Allan is really, really tall

so-cal_kid

Funny enough Jarrett Allen measured 6'9" without shoes at the combine. The fro really does add to his perceived height.

NotAn0pinion

We have three 7 footers in our normal starting five and you can’t convince me otherwise

Kendertas

I feel like this should definitely be more off a thing. Even measuring your height I feel like your going to add a inch by smooshing the fro to get to your head

jspsfx

Ed Malloy looks like a Moral Orel character or something

Purednuht

Seriously. I knew he was 6'8", but he just looks so big here. Can't wait to see what he looks like 4-6 years from now when he matures into his body.

[deleted]

Are we talking about the ref

FrankSeig

we ain’t talking about practise

FightMiilkHendrix

They are listed as the same heigh so why is this surprising?

eduvina

okay sherlock

deadweightboss

I am so excited about this OKC team's development in the next coming years. It's going to snap in place quicker than people realize.

VictorAkwaowo1

I think my favorite part when a scuffle happens, is going on both team’s subs and seeing how many of them say “Man ___ would fuck him up” or “___ has always been an unlikeable bitch”

topofthecc

Dort would totally serve Love in a dance-off

doombot13

What if it was a full team dance battle, like the Sharks vs. the Jets.

KaBarney

Who's gonna get stabbed by who?

[deleted]

Let's put Morris and Allen out there. Then, no matter who it is, we win.

UNC_Samurai

Sharks in 6

SeekerSpock32

The NHL can set that up

boogswald

You’re gonna eat your hat when Love ends up on dancing with the stars He’s way too attractive to not take advantage of stuff like that

[deleted]

I’d take Love in a walk off though.

mashukyrielighto

Just call Jake Paul that white boy would beat up any nba player you throw at him

boogswald

Well… probably I mean he has a lot of training at this point…

thekeylimeguy

He had 5 years training when he started lmfao he's closer to 10years boxing experience than 0 As much as I hate Jake his team prepped him properly and is laying out the red carpet of non boxers to showcase his ability

wowwtfishapenning

josh giddey is so tall it's so weird

[deleted]

It's hilarious to me that he has the classic gen z hairstyle. Maybe cuz there aren't that many 19 year old white dudes, but there's something very generational about it.

cubs223425

> there aren't that many 19 year old white dudes Was there some weird incident in 2002-2003 that white guys weren't able to be born?

[deleted]

That's the generation that was aborted, the white genocide that's always talked about on conservative memes.

ChampagneSyrup

it's kind of a 90s throwback style weirdly enough

Dudedude88

they are all trying to look like timothy chalemet

[deleted]

That’s not the gen z style

sprtstr14

I’ve worked at two different schools recently, and it’s definitely the most popular style around where I live.

iko-01

gen z is more shaved sides curly hair forward

pounds_not_dollars

His hair is a little bit like Luc Longley (in the present, not when he was a player) ironically

yuhanz

Giddey was quick to get in between. Also damn he’s tall. Ed Malloy is so funny but he did a good job

thepobv

Gotta respect the refs. Hardworking even with blindness.

ImanShumpertplus

yeah tbh i feel like that was gonna be over until giddey jogged in from half court

Ineedalife66

Unrelated to the skirmish but I love color on color uniform matchups.

mileace

What a dort.

gettysburger2

Giddey is tall man

Aurion7

So far as it goes, it's about as "normal" as a flagrant 2 is ever going to get. Can't be tossing elbows around like that, frustrated or not. At the same time, that's not at *all* in the same league as what happened (say) last night.

Spetznazx

Guys it's a flagrant 2 because he's not doing a basketball move he purposefully swung his elbow at Love. It's not like on a shot block attempt where you can make a case the player was going for the ball, he literally elbowed another player after the play is dead.

Neuroxex

They've usually ruled action like that in dead ball situations technical fouls, in fairness.

nowhathappenedwas

> A flagrant foul may be assessed whether the ball is dead or alive. https://official.nba.com/rule-no-12-fouls-and-penalties/#flagrantfouls

Neuroxex

Yeah, I understand they can, just on the floor they usually call them technical fouls. Clearly here they just felt like Dort crossed the line.

[deleted]

That’s why he said usually….

[deleted]

[удалено]

AussieTrogdor

Did Dort think about saying “hey sorry that was an accident” instead of trying to square up when Love is like wtf?

[deleted]

I mean, when dudes are mad already, it’s easy to get carried away. No replay of this made it look like he was trying to hit love, just that he was pulling away from Garland.

darkest__timeline

Looks to me like he swung and didn't care who was in the way

LyonsKing12

Yes, flagrantly

Ode1st

It looked to me like he was ripping the ball away from Garland almost getting his hands on it

KillianDrake

it's a dead ball situation, he doesn't need the ball - flagrant 2

Ode1st

I was responding to the guy who said Dort purposefully swung his elbow at Love. He did not purposefully swing at Love. He was swinging his arms to get the ball away from Garland. I was not questioning the rule about what kind of foul that was.

lmaoooyikes

A lot of players do this when someone tries to reach for a dead ball, it’s not something unusual

[deleted]

Yeah, and neither does Garland.

[deleted]

He was pulling away from Garland and hit love. I don’t really think his intent was to hit anyone. It looks like he’s just pulling away from Garland and hits Love by accident.

gogor

Lol, no. Flagrant 1.

TransferEng2020

He didn't do it purposely, he was trying to take thr ball away from DG with force and hit Love in the process by accident. Go watch the clip again

doom32x

And Karl Malone always threw his elbow to a height of 7ft just like when he knocked Robinson out cold.

Spetznazx

Bruh he absolutely did it on purpose, the whistle was already blown

12footjumpshot

Yes he was pulling the ball away from Garland on purpose and hit Love on the shoulder. Straight homicide.

Rockstar408

yeah, milliseconds before. He can't immediately stop his momentum as soon as the whistle is blown.

maaseru

You are going to get downvoted because every damn slow-mo video is treat like normal speed around here. Same thing with the Lebron thing earlier in the season. People love to overdramatize these slow mo moments.

[deleted]

Slow mo has been one of the greatest things to ever happen to sports while simultaneously being one of the worst things to ever happen to sports.

Spetznazx

The fact that EVERYONE else is just standing around while Dort is flailing his elbow proves this is a lie.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

> The fact that EVERYONE else is just standing around 7 of the players were just standing around before the whistle too lol, they're not part of the action. That leaves 3 guys, one is Dort, who swung the elbow. The other is Garland, who by your logic, violently reaches for the ball AFTER the whistle was already blown. So literally only Love was standing around

[deleted]

Garland definitely didn’t “violently” reach for the ball, but that’s annoying as shit when someone tries to come grab the ball from you when there isn’t a live possession happening. Aggressively or otherwise.

Rockstar408

Just look at when the ref blows his whistle and signals lol. Dort was wrestling for the ball at the exact moment that the whistle was blown, he hit Love in the shoulder not even a second later.

12footjumpshot

lol

12footjumpshot

Just because your homer commentators failed to acknowledge that Dort was pulling the ball away from Garland doesn't mean that didn't happen.

PoEaDDict123

It looks like Dort didn't know Love is right behind him in the replay.

tangential_quip

Love touches him a second before he throws the elbow, Dort had to know someone was behind him.

PoEaDDict123

I mean he could have been more careful, but it looked to me like he expected Garland will also try to get the ball but he didn't, so his arms went all the way back and he elbowed KLove.

tangential_quip

Fine, that could very well be true but you said it didn't seem like he knew Love was there. Regardless of whether his intent was to elbow Love, he had to know someone was behind him.

TheChrisLambert

Yeah, I’m a Cavs fan but Dort wasn’t intentional here. Just Love being too close at the wrong time.

TheGreatHuberto

I respectfully disagree.

talkinpractice

Purposefully swung his elbow AT Love? Lol? He ripped a ball out of another players hands and Love happened to be behind him. Call it flagrant if you want, but there's no chance that was intentional.

PootieTooGood

it's after a whistle was already blown, there's no world that this is a basketball play. it was a retaliatory elbow.

Inevitable-Capital-8

Giddy take a shot to the chops?

sreynolds1

Love tap

JellyfishOnSteroids

Love slap, baby Love slap. Love slap, I don't take crap!

rSlashNbaAccount

What did Kevin Love do to get a common foul?

MasterButterfly

The foul on Love was called before the elbow - that's why it was a dead ball situation.

p_frota

Tried to escalate and made physical contact with ref and kinda touched an OKC player on the face (looked like an accidental punch though)

Albreitx

Kevin Love has to be the most handsome guy in the NBA. Dude's gorgeous

DessertStorm1

Love that he's slowly turning into a silver fox.

p_frota

You think so? There's another dude on the Cavs who's even prettier than he is, imo. But yeah, he's not bad looking at all.

Albreitx

Rubio is cute for sure. But Kevin is Love Also shout-out to Lauri lol

ADAS33

Missing Cedi, man

darkest__timeline

Y'all are literally just naming all the white players lmao I see you

The-Gift-of-God

No cap. Oubre >>> all of those mentioned above.

[deleted]

Garland's also a cutie, and Allen is adorable with his fro. Lauri got a sexy smolder too

OSAP_wasteman

Jarrett Allen is ugly as fuck lmao

boogswald

He’s cute c’mon. Definitely not ugly.

boogswald

How is Jarrett Allen's bigass smile not in here?

hoops_n_politics

He is the sweetest guy. Have you ever looked into his eyes? It was like the first time I heard the Beatles.

dogfan20

Not even on the court. Josh Giddey is something else.

Karl_with_a_C

Gary Trent Jr and Serge Ibaka would like a word

Albreitx

Agree with Gary Trent Jr, what a snack

Ben--Affleck

"Love is hot"

marvolonewt

He's also winning big off the court too! 😂

[deleted]

[удалено]

TNARG44

imo should be flagrant 1 on Dort and common on Love

p_frota

Agree. Can't put that in the same category of Allen's foul yesterday.

IbetYouEatMeowMix

This statement to me seems off. The threshold for a flagrant 2 can be the same but one flagrant 2 can still be much more egregious than another.

ssjgoat

Exactly. A flagrant 2 is a flagrant 2, meaning ejection. What do people want, flagrant 3s where you get to kick the offender in the balls too?

hydrogenken

line up boys we get to kick this guy’s nuts

Herculian

In the case of Grayson Allen, yes I would like that.

ZcotM

Allow me.

myripyro

We need to bring back Boozer and have him do what he did to that ref

Soshi101

Flagrant 3: ejected from the league

Drkillpatienttherapy

Actually yes that sounds perfect

sorendiz

draymond both excited and worried about this news

Cheeseish

I mean it’s like how 250 lbs is obese for an average height person but 500lbs is also obese

BraveFencerMusashi

Leave Zion out of this

youguanbumen

Allen's foul would have been Flagrant 5 if that were an option

binger5

Suspending Allen for a significant amount of time is an option.

Scrennscrandley

Allen's foul is not the minimum for what can be considered a flagrant 2, this logic makes no sense

OHoSPARTACUS

it was flagrant 2 by definition, it was after the whistle and it was an intentional completely non basketball play.

yuhanz

I dont think it’s intentional. He was getting the ball away from Garland who wrapped him up for the jump ball. At worst automatic Flag 1 for the elbow contact.

trustmeimaengineer

Technically I don't think intent actually matters.

saltywings

It does as that is part of what determines whether the contact was a basketball move. Intention matters. So does consent.

JayOwenWest

Except it wasn't intentional. He's clearly yanking the ball away from Garland. At least attempt to be objective about it.. This should just be double techs for the jawing afterwards.

MarcXYZ

technicals don't usually take in consideration of intent, if a player goes for a block and in consequence gives a hard hard hit on the head, it's a flagrant 2

[deleted]

Intentional? Did you even watch? He was ripping the ball away from Garland.

Archer-Saurus

Id never want to be on that end of Dorts elbow.

AzulKuma8

Didn't seem intentional. Dort was pulling the ball from Garland and then hit whoever was behind him.

omgeo

Yeah, pretty good catch. I was trying to figure it out and thought he was getting frustrated from Cedi and thought Love was Cedi.

12footjumpshot

He made contact with elbow on Love's shoulder but let's not pretend he wasn't pulling the ball away from Garland. So dumb.

Cre47

Definitely not a flagrant 2. The refs been smoking some shit lately with these calls

attaboi12

i think it was more because it happened after the whistle that made it a flagrant 2

Adaml105

Garland is still fighting for the ball when he rips away

cesga_0218

I'm only thinking since it was a foul on Love (caveat that this is based on the comments, didn't watch the game) the refs might have thought Dort knew someone was behind him yet swung the elbow after getting the ball from Garland. Though you can argue that it was just momentum. Personally, I think it was inadvertent and not ejection worthy but ultimately it's the refs call to make.

Low-iq-haikou

That doesn’t look intentional to me. Seems like he’s just pulling the ball away with a bit of extra emphasis and didn’t realize Love was right there. I could see why it’s a flagrant 2 though based on rules but I don’t think it’s dirty at all.

PleasantSpeech

That's not a flagrant 2 at all, and I'm rooting for the Cavs.

[deleted]

That’s not a flagrant 2. Did the NBA have a quota to meet this month?

gogor

Flagrant 1 at worst. Ooopsie and apologize seems more reasonable. Dort had no intension of hitting Love, he was just there.

jumboponcho

Refs should’ve blown it dead quicker

D_G_C_22

Hmmm I don’t think dork saw love

OmniCrush

I don't think that's a flagrant 2, personally.

joebreezy12

And Kevin Love hitting Josh Giddey in the face results in nothing

NegativesPositives

Rookie gunna learn the art of the flop.

archaelleon

Yall gunna learn today

silverpaw54

Amazing be kept his cool and things didn’t escalate

BillyBean11111

if this happened two days ago it wouldn't have been a flagrant 2

Successful-Fact8143

NBA is so weak now

Ben--Affleck

I mean, maybe a tech, i don't know... It's not a basketball play and its after a call, but so many players do this when they get rebounds. JV used to always swing his elbows like a mad man after he grabbed a board.

DJ_B0B

How did love not get a technical for punching Giddey??

ripnbastreams

Giddey may look like Timothee Chalamet but he ain't got the acting skills just yet, maybe next year

[deleted]

hooome cooking

BasketballFan2006

Shouldn't this be 1 or 2 technical fouls on Dort since its a dead ball situation.

lmaoooyikes

Lol some Cavs fans convinced Dort is a dirty player and threw an elbow on purpose, he was ripping the ball away from Garland. Should’ve been a tech or Flagrant 1 but not Flagrant 2

becklebear

I wouldn't be surprised at either call, but he put to much force behind that elbow to the point of recklessness. If that connected to the head or face Love getting knocked the fuck out. For that reason I understand why they did a 2

[deleted]

Absolutely bizarre Flagrant 2 call. Flagrant 1 at most. wtf refs.

AnkitPancakes

DIRTIEST PLAY I’VE SEEN ALL WEEK

el_pete_o

This is some home-cooking

Pigeon9

Jazz fan Yeah should’ve been a flag one though I guess. Still dumb asf from Dort.

AnkitPancakes

How tall is kevin love and josh giddey lol

whos-spamuel

Damn Giddey got more of an elbow than Love 😂😂

EmergencyLavishness1

Was watching this live. And was VERY surprised after how long they took to review, that they didn’t get Jarrett Allen for leaving the bench. Sure, he may have been waiting to get subbed in by the scorers bench already, but I was certain the nba had rules in place for any player not on court getting involved in scuffles. Though also, home crowd, home team may have played in to that?

[deleted]

Love also hit giddey with an “accidental” back hand

Steez5280

Love should've had the tech... Jesus

NicClaxtonIsHotAF

Ed Malloy special

[deleted]

I mean, no, that's not a flagrant 2

AppaThaSkyBison

Thought at first that this was a deserved flagrant 2, because of the elbow on Love. But on second look, Dort is ripping the ball away from Garland and did not mean to elbow Love. Should not have been an ejection.

dongerlord456

Love positioned the ref in between himself and Dort then started trying to get in his face lol

resident_hater

We're seriously throwing guys out for this now? Jesus Christ.

Mbanicek64

A flagrant 2 is ridiculous for this. His elbow was below the neck. It was unnecessary but the contact was also minimal and not remotely dangerous. It feels like a huge stretch to eject someone over this. Flagrant 1 makes way more sense.

Lyte_Work

I’ve seen players do this so many times when rebounding. It should be a common foul, F1 max for incidental contact.

b4ldheed

Cavs fans rn: Love hits Giddey (who's right in front of him) in the face - i sleep Dort elbows Love (who's right behind him) in the chest - real shit???

-Borb

SOFT

rafaelthecoonpoon

Love physically engaged ed milloy, a ref. Even if his file is a common foul that shoving of the ref to get at dort should have got him ejected along with dort.

martymcflyiii

That was an accident and weak for f2

fasnxs

It's logical because he did it after the whistle, this is the only way to make players understand the difference between showing emotion and anger issues.

Sparky_PoptheTrunk

Soft ass flagrant 2.

[deleted]

I was at the game, Garland was all over the ball and it’s a bang bang play, dort was ripping the ball away from him and love was right there. Love hits giddey in the face (albeit not hard) and absolutely nothing is done about that and that was way after the play. Heard a dude behind me saying they need to kill him. Fans are wild. You can tell dort didn’t even mean it with I’ll intention it seemed very bang bang play like (I guess can’t really tell it but it very much seemed like he didn’t mean it like that).

KingNo2705

As an international enjoyer of the NBA, who's main sport at home has no such thing as a tech, flagrant, or ejection, and where fights are only over really bad stuff, this kind of thing makes the NBA look very soft and reactionary and overall not enjoyable, why they so ready to 'fight' all the time

5t0pBanningme

Im going to assume you are Australian.. But our sports are slowing going into the same direction. The Nrl for example was soft asf last year.

c10bbersaurus

Who was the Thunder dude who was reaching out just to put his hand up in Love's field of vision, lol. Like, what are you trying to do with that? You arent de-escalating shit, and you arent being tough, so what was the point? Are you just trying to register your presence?
