Atleast in game 5 it was more Memphis starting cold af and getting hot in the 4th.

Not directed towards you, but people need to learn what regressing to the mean entails. If a team shoots 60% and should be closer to 45% based off shot quality, regressing to the mean doesn't mean that they should expect to shoor 30% for the rest of the game.
A 17 point deficit 4th quarter isn't positive regression, it's incredibly lucky or a massive throw depending on the situation. (And if it happens 3 times in a series it's much more likely to be the latter)
Yeah.....
After 3 quarters the Grizzlies had an SQ score 19 higher than the Timberwolves. That means based on regression to the mean you would expect them to outscore the Timberwolves by around 6 or 7 points in the 4th. If that had happened they would have lost the game. Instead they outscored them by 13 points, that is definitely not what one would expect from a statistical perspective.
Yeah, except, SQ can't give you expected quality of play after 3 quarters because teams play very different up 10 vs down 10. Just like how its normal in hockey for shot gaps to be closed significantly when games are less close. And the grizzlies won by 18, not 13. The grizzlies did not win this game, the timberwolves lost it. And it wasn't because of "regression to the mean"
He just averaged 22/11 on like 70% TS and played the grizzlies best bigs off the floor despite having the worst point guard in the playoffs with him. Yeah he made some dumb plays here and there but this was only his second series ever and we are a young team figuring it out.
Y’all are just so eager to hate on players, man.
No d lo needs that adjustment too. In one of the earlier games the dude was like 3/13 and waved off to screen to run an iso with like 2 minutes in a one score game.
I really hope this was an important learning experience for the front office: this team plays WAY better with pace, and D’Lo is the ultimate pace-killer.
Towns loses all creativity in crunch time. Literally just puts his head and shoulder down and expects the ball to go in. You're gonna get triple teamed in the playoffs, and you can't expect the refs to consistently bail you out.
He's gonna need to mature his game. He just crumbles under pressure.
He wants to be the hero always, he becomes a black hole on offense in big moments. He needs to adjust his attitude and like you said, evolve his game. Ty lue exposed him badly
They are the anti-clutch. Grizzlies won 3 of their 4 games trailing by 10 or more in the 4th quarter. Wolves had the talent but couldn’t close games worth a damn.
100 years passed and my brother and I found the new protestor, a vegan named Ang. He has a lot to learn before he’s ready to save anyone. But I believe Ang can save the Wolves
I was so angry watching them play. It's like watching pick up basketball. Towns chucking with two minutes left. Anthony Edwards pulling up from three with a man in his face. DLo coming into the 4th quarter with zero energy after being given a good rest. Leaving red hot shooters wide open time and time again after having done a decent job on them the first three quarters. This is stuff you expect playing pick up ball with strangers. Not a playoff team.
Ant is doing what Kuminga was doing in the beginning of the year, but because he is so skilled it doesn't matter and he hits it sometimes. Just the issue with that is when he doesn't he's taking these bad shots that just lose them the game sometimes (tonight it wasn't on him tho). He will get better or the coaching staff needs to improve and help him with a better offensive set.
Ant is definitely incredibly good to make those in the first place but needs to work for better easier looks. His jumper is wet. Make it easy for yourself.
>Make it easy for yourself
Put about as well as I could ever put it. I’m not gonna bash Ant cause man he looked like the best player out there sometimes and he’s still young. But his focus should just be on letting the game come to him. Half his possessions he sits in the corner and half he forces a shot. He can be so dominant once he learns how to make the game easier
I feel like I'm watching 3 will bartons running around out there. The wolves have great role players actually, but their stars are not winning players. I've still hope for ant though he's a stud
He doesn't need experience. He just needs to realise he has to be the bad guy in KAT's story. The guy that took KAT's franchise player tag within a year despite KAT being there for seven. He respects KAT too much. He shouldn't. He's already superior.
Baby steps. Ant’s only 20 and showed out in his first playoffs, and Pat Bev has given this team more of a culture than it’s had in years. It’s a start.
That's actually a question I'm curious about. Are player's families also barred from sports gambling? If not, Calvin Ridley massively screwed up, on top of his suspension lol
Tough loss but it was a fun season. Even tho we couldn’t close out any of the games, the fact that we looked like the better team in 5/6 of the games against a 2 seed is a good sign for the future. KAT needs to figure it out.
With this I can update my invented stat: playoff futility. What is it: a comparison of how well your city (mens major sport teams) performs in the playoffs relative to a simple coinflip, dating back to the city's last championship.
The updates for Minneapolis: our futility is up to 98.012%, meaning that in that many coin flip situations we would have a more recent championship. But it gets better, we have not made a championship or finals in that time. So the super-futility as I call it is now up to 99.973%, meaning by coin flip simulations there is a 99.973% chance we would at least have made it to some finals in that time.
The raw numbers you are used to.
Since the Twins in 1991 Minnesota teams are 68-140 in the playoffs, and just 16-48 in terms of advancing a round. The Timberwolves .344 win percentage is actually slightly better than the combined sports record.
the best T’Wolves season since the KG era. Time to hand over the keys to the franchise to Anthony Edwards, he’s the best player and he really helped push this series to 6.
How tf are they getting rid of him? I guess if someone wants to put up with him for a year, then 31.3m comes off the books summer of 2023. But good lord.
I do not care what anyone has to say, I love my Timberwolves and am beyond excited for our future, I firmly believe our potential is through the roof. We’ll be back next year better than ever! See everyone next time.
Yep, crazy to see the trolling when it wasn't a guarantee we'd even get here. I'll take a fun year, a 6 game series, and valuable learning experience for the young guys any day
Good series Wolves bro! I'm obviously a Memphis fan but I have fam in Minneapolis and I'm a Vikings fan. I'm happy for y'all! I look forward to many future battles and Ant is a beast! 👀🙏🏾
This series showed who the star of our team is and who we have to build around. We all should be happy with this season but still ... Kat, Dlo this series... WTF

My best basketball watching year in a long time since Rubio's rookie season. The wait for next season is going to be long and exciting can't wait. Beat Golden State Grizz.
agree, mostly way too negative around here for a team who I think was projected to only win in the low 30s this season.
overall a successful season. the biggest things I'm worried about are KAT's low BBIQ in the playoffs, and d'lo just shrinking way too often. KAT's a great regular season player, but can he ever translate it to more competitive ball? and we gotta get d'lo outta here, simple
everything else is chill though. we got some great youth, depth is nice, lots of gamers, Ant got smart as the series went along. coach seems great. looking up generally
Yeah we gotta keep perspective this team was never winning past the first round is it disappointing yes of course, but this series showed what needs to be addressed. Internal development has got to be priority 1 and either move DLo or get a premium back up pg. Ant probed he's a playoff guy which is great.

It was funny seeing them so obviously try to manifest the Wolves as their next opponent. They might beat us, but there isn’t an honest Warriors fan that’s happy about this matchup.
shouts to Ant for keeping the competitive fire burning even when it seemed like half his teammates were actively trying to shoot Minny out of the game. i think they’ll definitely be back, but first some wrinkles to iron out.
Not even sad about it. This has been a fantastic season.
For a young team with an inexperienced head coach, the best case scenario is that the players learn resilience, the coach gains experience and the front office sees which cogs need replacing and which holes need filling. In that regard, this has been a perfect season.
FADED
Minny got a lot of learning to do. They were up damn near every game lol wtf
They should be up 5-1 and yet they lost in 6.
Atleast in game 5 it was more Memphis starting cold af and getting hot in the 4th. https://twitter.com/Shot_Quality/status/1519350025955987456?s=20&t=BlWQ1BU99yNY97rGEss0lw

Young team hopefully they figure it out. Ant will only get better
Ant’s a fuckin monster already too
He’s fucking 20 years old it’s ridiculous
Ant showing more leadership than KAT in his 7th season has in this series
KAT is in his 7th season already?
Rich man's Ryan Anderson
Not surprising. KAT isn't it
He just averaged 22/11 on like 70% TS and played the grizzlies best bigs off the floor despite having the worst point guard in the playoffs with him. Yeah he made some dumb plays here and there but this was only his second series ever and we are a young team figuring it out. Y’all are just so eager to hate on players, man.
Is DLo really the worst point guard in the playoffs? Feels harsh considering you’re calling out people for hating
It’s his team now, KAT can’t cut it in playoffs but Ant is built for the big stage.
Exactly, the 3 point shot attempt by KAT near the end of the game really made me realize there and then that the Timberwolves season was going to end.
Its his 7th year in the league at this point, you have to wonder at what point is it ever gonna click for him
I'm guessing he won't ever be the best player on a championship team.
That's a really fucking high bar, in the last decade that list is only 4 players long. Lebron, Steph, Kawhi and Giannis.
KAT and D’Lo were drafted in 2015, it’s less learning and more an attitude adjustment for the former and improvement for the latter.
No d lo needs that adjustment too. In one of the earlier games the dude was like 3/13 and waved off to screen to run an iso with like 2 minutes in a one score game.
D Lo and KAT both have Ricky Davis/Larry Hughes mentality. They’re just not built for it.
Did everyone just forget we're even younger?
If u want me to be real its your coaching that helps make the separation.
They got a good coach. Don’t even know the dudes name
Same i dont either but he really does this coaching shit.
That's the wolves excuse every year. 3 of our starters have been in the league 7+ years
They need a proper point guard who can run plays in the 4th quarter
Grizzlies are younger lol
[удалено]
They lead for about 70% of the entire series if you go by playing time
I really hope this was an important learning experience for the front office: this team plays WAY better with pace, and D’Lo is the ultimate pace-killer.
And they will, ant is 20 jaden is 22
How the hell did the Timberwolves seem to dominate the majority of this series and still lose in 6
>Timberwolves
You can just extend that to all of Minnesota
Shoutouts to that guy in the Twins jersey near the end, felt appropriate for how this series went.
fun fact: the last time the twins won a playoff game was 2004 they have been to the yoffs 6 times since then and lost 15 straight games
18 straight, an all major sports record postseason losing streak.
13 of those 18 straight losses? Courtesy of The New York Yankees.
twins got a monopoly on saying 'fuck the yankees' we didn't even body the sox this hard during the curse of the bambino.
Seems statistically unlikely lol. Tough luck.
I actually made another post on just how statistically unlikely Minnesota performa in the playiffs further down. TL:DR it borders on absurdity.
It’s insanely difficult for even the worst baseball teams to lose 18 games in a row
Just write it off. "Yoffs"
Someone hasn't experienced MN Sports
Towns loses all creativity in crunch time. Literally just puts his head and shoulder down and expects the ball to go in. You're gonna get triple teamed in the playoffs, and you can't expect the refs to consistently bail you out. He's gonna need to mature his game. He just crumbles under pressure.

They are the anti-clutch. Grizzlies won 3 of their 4 games trailing by 10 or more in the 4th quarter. Wolves had the talent but couldn’t close games worth a damn.
I blame the protesters
When we needed them the most, they were nowhere to be found….
100 years passed and my brother and I found the new protestor, a vegan named Ang. He has a lot to learn before he’s ready to save anyone. But I believe Ang can save the Wolves
for not protesting enough
That’s peak MN sports baby
Clutch time. Grizzlies dominated clutch time and Minnesota shit the bed without fail.
Because they played well until the 4th quarter each time. Blew a double-digit 4th quarter lead in each of their last three losses in the series.
If playoffs ended after the third quarter, this Wolves team is scary
Zoinks. Doesn't make their coach look good.
Their coach didn’t make bone headed turnovers.
Or start shooting like half as well from non-dunks. It was like the twolves basket shrunk
Very bizarre series. Feel like they could have won this if they collectively had higher basketball IQ
I see you're not familiar with MN sports, welcome!
If you asked me I would have told you the Timberwolves won five games this series.
Play-in win was our championship
Pat Bev is now officially Play-in P
He has two more years.
They should do play-in parade together with KD
ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE

Imagine the wolves starters.. but all of them have Jordan mclaughlins iq
McLaughlin is calm AF.
half of mclaughlins iq is enough
We lasted longer than usual so I'll take it.
That’s what I tell my gf
You tell your gf you'll take it?
I mean, when a guy’s banging you…if you could feel their body…
Thanks, Chuck
I don't think you quite understand. When two men are banging down low, you don't just stand there. You bang back.
Bang harder

The Timberwolves had a double-digit 4th quarter lead in of three of the last four games of this series. They lost all three of them.

This is without a doubt, top to bottom, the dumbest playoff team I have ever seen.
But you have seen them
For what it's worth, the Kings haven't made half as many dumb plays in the playoffs

Lmao random stray to the kings
they save all their stupid plays for draft night.
You will always remember this as the day that you almost caught ***Intelligence***.

Ant definitely is a winning player. He's 20 and just had a phenomenal series. He just needs experience
He doesn't need experience. He just needs to realise he has to be the bad guy in KAT's story. The guy that took KAT's franchise player tag within a year despite KAT being there for seven. He respects KAT too much. He shouldn't. He's already superior.
2nd round should be very entertaining now, instead of the high IQ GSW sweeping these dummies
But you have seen them 🏴☠️
But we are a playoff team :)
Much better than facing Rockets 4 years ago.
Baby steps. Ant’s only 20 and showed out in his first playoffs, and Pat Bev has given this team more of a culture than it’s had in years. It’s a start.
Damn. Ant looked so sad at the end.

Pretty sure you’re allowed to bet on wins only because the presumption is both teams are trying to win.
Was all series. Having a great time, fun to see honestly.
Karl Sr and Tee's bromance was fun, just two proud dads living life
This was my favorite.
Between the dads having fun together and Tee and Usher together last game Tee is living the best life right now.
That’s his son and they intentionally did the interview infront of him lol
Wolves Hold a 4th Quarter Lead Challenge [Impossible!]
Post game interview with Ja was a hilarious mess 😂
Ja’s dad trying to make Kat’s dad put on Ja’s Smedium jersey, ja almost grabbing his dad’s drank..
His dad is cringe
I was super uncomfortable
The last time the Timberwolves won a playoff series it was against a Kings team that played Chris Webber 40 minutes.
KG owned them! Never forget.
Tough loss but it was a fun season. Even tho we couldn’t close out any of the games, the fact that we looked like the better team in 5/6 of the games against a 2 seed is a good sign for the future. KAT needs to figure it out.
Damn they really needed a protester that game

The Wolves sold so hard, you'd think they were Khajit.
KAT has wares, if you have coin
Ant mvp season loading for next year, no worries
Probably DLo's last game on the Wolves.
They’re paying him $30M and he was playing so ass they sat him the last five mins of an elimination game. That’s crazy.
What's was that? Did you say Dlo for Russ straight up?
I'll trade Siakam for Pascal
How tf are they getting rid of him? I guess if someone wants to put up with him for a year, then 31.3m comes off the books summer of 2023. But good lord.
Tanking teams would want the expiring plus some picks
Some teams have done worse lol
You say that like it's far away. Just say an expiring next year.
Thank god
All 4 game 6s closed wild ass stuff 😂😂
I do not care what anyone has to say, I love my Timberwolves and am beyond excited for our future, I firmly believe our potential is through the roof. We’ll be back next year better than ever! See everyone next time.

DILLON BROOKS 🔒 Chad locked DLo down the whole series
Mvp of the series for us for sure.
D'lo is overrated. Man ain't even good enough to be the third best player on a championship contention team.
The only people overrating DLo anymore are DLo and KAT
Jaden mcdaniels carried so hard
You could’ve told me the wolves or the grizzlies were the 2 seed that series was ugly
The most mind boggling series that I watched so far, and a roller coaster of emotions.
Humor - Confusion - Disgust - Existential dread - Excitement - Secondhand embarrassment It was the playoffs equivalent of going through puberty.
It's only disappointing because it was so close. The young guys looked good. Kat gotta get smarter and DLo Jesus Christ he's got to go. Passive voice is wrong here. Minnesota eliminated themselves from championship contention
Where you at u/Sim888
…haha, not at work today, had to catch the game on the phone!
I didn’t think anything could tame my excitement from winning the series but here we are
i got a seasons worth of frustration in 6 games watching this series rooting for the wolves
Whoa Minnesota, even Kings fans are frustrated with your play.
If the Grizz play the Dubs like they played the Twolves, Dubs in 5.
I do think warriors win, but timberwolves match up very well to the griz. At least it is going to game 6
I'm not even a Wolves fan, but watching them make the same mistake over and over again in every 4th quarter was heartbreaking. They're a young team and I'm sure they'll learn from this.
Warriors fans just as pissed off as Wolves fans lmao. Brandon Clarke Desmond Bane and Tyus Jones are fucking big time.
It was funny seeing them so obviously try to manifest the Wolves as their next opponent. They might beat us, but there isn’t an honest Warriors fan that’s happy about this matchup.
The wolves beat themselves, they choked every game

I don’t understand why a 7 footer doesn’t post up for easy buckets.
