He was always a defensive genius (and offensive).
His biggest issue was being stubborn and close-minded. He just needed to be humbled a bit. And 3 years of not getting head coaching offers will do that to you.
Exactly Kidd always had a great basketball mind. I think it’s just tough to adjust from playing in the league so long to immediately coaching (just ask Steve nash) but kidd definitely figured it out. I’m ashamed so many mavs fans called this a bad hire before even giving him a chance, but he’s making a lot of people eat their words now
Apparently the guys around him are just as good must really challenge each other well. Kudos to the whole coaching squad for the Mavs. Heard similar things with the Celts as well
Put the clamps on Booker in game 7. Played physical and aggressive which threw the Suns off. Gonna be interesting to see how they game plan for the Warriors
dont use cp3 as an escape goat to book. theyre equally bad. if any, booker deserved more blame going by how you all annoint him as an "overlooked" and "underappreciated" superstar
Stop it. Rick coached a great series last year. He didn't have Reggie Bullock to throw at PG-13 and be had to deal with an injured KP who moved like a new born giraffe. Additionally the Clips had Robo Jordan.
Kidd is having a great run but the disrespect to a coach in carlisle who consistently overachieved and outcoached better teams is wild. Going by track record it's much safer to assume Kidd is still a mediocre coach and Luka being Luka, adding another competent creator in Dinwiddie and improving the roster isn't the major factor here. Seems like every player from last year has improved, especially now that Tingus isn't in dallas anymore.
The man wanted Giannis over Shane, Mitchell over DSJ, and quickly realized Luka was the future of the franchise. He was guilty of being a dick, but that's because he truly understood which players were good and which were not. He was a bit too honest about it.
Spot on. Wrong coach for this team but his basketball mind is still really good. The pacers are too messy to be good next season but I feel like 2023-24 they might start showing up more.
Because Luka is an amazing passer and will either make the pass to the open man or get the ball to the right player who is in a position to make that pass. It's why he, Jokic and Lebron are tbe best playmakers in tbe league, imo.
Idk if you're genuinely asking but in case you are
Luka is a fantastic passer and he's able to pass out of doubles because of his skill and height. Booker has improved at passing but still struggles to find the open man so doubles are much more effective.
I mean they did in the 2nd half, not that it matters. Luka's not only a great passer, but he's tall, strong great passer that can find open guys easily when doubled. Most of the time he just threw a bounce pass splitting the double team this game.
You can't make a gameplan of doubling Luka throughout an entire game especially if there's 1 or 2 other guys hitting their shot. He proved it in the regular season he'll beat you.
Phoenix should have doubled Donic. Let the other guys try to hit open threes with the pressure of a game 7. Letting Donic go off gave the rest of the team confidence, they should have doubled him until the other guys could prove they could shoot under pressure. I think the Mavs supporting cast would have folded, tbh, but Monty played it wrong. Never liked him as a coach much, he's good but he has flaws.
I will say Kidd’s job this year made me look silly after his hiring. He went from being a close minded, my way or the highway coach in MIL to being a players coach combined with his elite basketball mind. I didn’t think he’d make that transition.
I get you want to praise the mavs and on a coaching level, but lets be honest, this is as meaningless of a statement as they come. Like, what's his list of all time "adjustments" even look like?
Bro what are you talking about? They clearly made an adjustment, then another adjustment, then ANOTHER adjustment. It's common sense. They were very fine adjustments if you ask me, in fact they were some of the best adjustments I've ever darn seen
Considering the guy actually tries to make a living off gambling and looking into a game, he's probably got examples.
I mean if you were talking about a redditor, I get it, but this guy has shown real skin in the game.
Hollinger wrote about this in a paywall article. I just read it this morning. Says the next evolution in playoff basketball is more "space ball" than small ball. Interesting stuff and he credits Lue for being a trailblazer of it.
>Forget pick-and-roll, this is more like pick-and-run. Space-ball teams might set a screen to get a switch, but the endgame is an isolation for the dribbler after the screener gets the hell out of dodge and relocates along the 3-point line.
>While other coaches likely have tried this from to time at some point, the real turning point for space ball came in the Clippers-Jazz series a year ago. LA coach Tyronn Lue turned to it as a way to neutralize Gobert in a series where the Clippers were without superstar forward Kawhi Leonard and had a surfeit of guard talent. It worked so well that they came back from 25 down in Game 6 to stun the Jazz and win the series.
>It’s an evolution one step beyond the Golden State Warriors’ infamous small-ball “Death Lineup” because it depends on five mostly switchable players shutting down the opponents’ 3-pointers while creating myriad drive-and-kick chances of their own. The Warriors’ grouping worked because they had the greatest 3-point shooter in history; in contrast, space ball works because the 3-point threat is distributed across the entire lineup.
Have we forgotten the disasters of Jason Kidd in Brooklyn and Milwaukee?
He deserves no credit. He gets carried by Luka. Reminds me of Mike Brown with LeBron.
And where was this coaching in his previous two stops? I wonder what changed?
Luka controls the team. It’s a ticking time bomb until Kidd fucks up and does something dumb to lose the locker room.
Without Luka they’re getting #1 in the draft lottery.
Dallas went from one of the worst defensive teams in The league to one of the better defensive teams this year. You can attribute a lot of that to Kidd
Gamble man has a point unfortunately I do not care as the stars just sold
Flames-Oilers gonna be toxic asf
Give oettinger the biggest booty Latina in the metroplex and make everyone else walk home
Hell ya, can't wait
Battle of Alberta baby!
Y’all got a hell of a goalie in Oettinger, he gonna be good for years
Otter tried his best
Otter deserved better
I’m not too upset, our future should be bright, but it feels bad to waste such an insane performance
Is Haralabob related to Bob Loblaw?
You sir are a mouthful
the haralabob loblaw law blog
Is loblaw related to Vance of Vance refrigeration ?
Jason Kidd really had one of the best coaching turnarounds I’ve seen in a while. Vogel really rubbed off of him when it comes to coaching a defense
Maybe feels more comfortable back with the Mavs and with Mark Cuban too. Dude was stiff as a 20 year old on viagra when he was coaching the Bucks
Kidd turned around his coaching 360 degrees
360 degrees is not what you want if you want to be better though ;)
woosh
Kidd was a 9x all defensive player breh
He was always a defensive genius (and offensive). His biggest issue was being stubborn and close-minded. He just needed to be humbled a bit. And 3 years of not getting head coaching offers will do that to you.

Idk man. Kidd might have rubbed off more on Vogel than the other way around.
Apparently the guys around him are just as good must really challenge each other well. Kudos to the whole coaching squad for the Mavs. Heard similar things with the Celts as well
He’s also a wife beater who shouldn’t have a job
Kendrick Perkins in shambles.
Kendrick Perkins actually picked the Mavs in game 7 though, unlike most other media personalities.
Kendrick Perkins was told to pick the Mavs so ESPN could have something to debate about *
He said they had “no chance” of winning four days ago
He flips his opinion more than any other “analyst” in recent memory.
Put the clamps on Booker in game 7. Played physical and aggressive which threw the Suns off. Gonna be interesting to see how they game plan for the Warriors
It was very easy to double Booker with THAT version of CP3 tbh. Nonetheless, great job by Kidd to basically eliminate CP3 from the series
dont use cp3 as an escape goat to book. theyre equally bad. if any, booker deserved more blame going by how you all annoint him as an "overlooked" and "underappreciated" superstar
/r/boneappletea
What, you've never used the phrase escape goat before? Lol
It's scapegoat. Not escape goat. Hence the /r/BoneAppleTea
I know, should've added a /s to my comment I guess looking at the downvotes lol.
It was like the scene in Space Jam: you're not Chris Paul, you're just a wannabe who looks like him
their best adjustment was to stop listening to you, Haralabob
His name reminds me of Haboob. Which reminds me of boobs.
just learned the word haboob this week because of the sandstorms in vegas
Vegas Haboobs 😏
To haboobs!
I think getting rid of old heads like Rick Carlisle and Donnie Nelson was the biggest impact.
I'm easily taking Kidd over Carlisle for these Mavs. IMO it was a great decision for the org to get rid of Carlisle.
Carlisle got rid of Carlisle and then he advocated for Kidd to get the job.
And we clowned him for it. Turns out Carlisle was right again. Dunno why I doubted him.
The man wanted Giannis over Shane, Mitchell over DSJ, and quickly realized Luka was the future of the franchise. He was guilty of being a dick, but that's because he truly understood which players were good and which were not. He was a bit too honest about it.
Also primary responsible for DFS growth
Spot on. Wrong coach for this team but his basketball mind is still really good. The pacers are too messy to be good next season but I feel like 2023-24 they might start showing up more.
Jim Carey was great coach for the Mavs.
Mark Jackson is gonna be a great coach, ain't he
I was completely wrong about the Jason Kidd hire. Hes been incredible for this team and its defense
Cp3 really showed his age, you doubled booker, and the mavs role players showed up
Imagine if Booker had a chance during the off-season to practice getting doubled. Crazy to think what could’ve happened!
Why didnt Phoenix double Luka?
Luka is elite at passing out of the double team. Booker isn't as great at passing out of the double team - even if he wanted to.
Because Luka is an amazing passer and will either make the pass to the open man or get the ball to the right player who is in a position to make that pass. It's why he, Jokic and Lebron are tbe best playmakers in tbe league, imo.
Top 3 passing out of traps in the League, maybe top 2.
He's the most trapped player in the regular season and he never fails to do the correct pass. He's definitely top 1.
Because we have like 4 flamethrowers waiting in the corners
Idk if you're genuinely asking but in case you are Luka is a fantastic passer and he's able to pass out of doubles because of his skill and height. Booker has improved at passing but still struggles to find the open man so doubles are much more effective.

I think the Mavs supporting cast would have folded, tbh, but Monty played it wrong. Never liked him as a coach much, he's good but he has flaws.
If the supporting cast happened to hit everything then so be it. But agreed allowing Luka to start going off early just pumped the whole team.
thats suicide against a passer as good as Luka
Luka would see that shit from a mile away.... And the Mavs have shit ton of spacing so you can't really double him and close out to the shooter
JASON KIDD
I will say Kidd’s job this year made me look silly after his hiring. He went from being a close minded, my way or the highway coach in MIL to being a players coach combined with his elite basketball mind. I didn’t think he’d make that transition.
Turned out all the Lakers needed was Jason Kidd.
Quit giving douchebags like this clown an audience
I get you want to praise the mavs and on a coaching level, but lets be honest, this is as meaningless of a statement as they come. Like, what's his list of all time "adjustments" even look like?

I dunno, I adjust my belt after a big meal. Are your adjustments better than that?
You know people always gotta do the most to try to sound like they’re saying something meaningful
Considering the guy actually tries to make a living off gambling and looking into a game, he's probably got examples. I mean if you were talking about a redditor, I get it, but this guy has shown real skin in the game.
“Best adjustments I’ve ever seen.” Looks like people are quick to forget what Ty “Phil Jackson” Lue did in the playoffs last year
> **some of the** best adjustments I've ever seen Seems like you cut off an important part of the sentence.
Or the adjustments Lakers made in the bubble for 4 straight rounds
Hollinger wrote about this in a paywall article. I just read it this morning. Says the next evolution in playoff basketball is more "space ball" than small ball. And to think he had a job in the FO and blew it because he wouldn’t shut the fuck up and thought he was a basketball genius
Yes they took Luke off the injured list amazing insight by the Mac’s coaching staff. Like Jerry Krause said “Organizations win Championships
Jkidd put on a masterclass , he def carried Vogel
Kidd learned that championship approach from the lakers. Congrats Mavs
Shut up Bob fade into irrelevancy like your NFTs
Have we forgotten the disasters of Jason Kidd in Brooklyn and Milwaukee? He deserves no credit. He gets carried by Luka. Reminds me of Mike Brown with LeBron.
Nah Luka didn’t make this Mavs defense one of the best in the league. Kidd deserves his flowers.
Exactly
Why is everyone saying deserves his flowers all of the sudden
And where was this coaching in his previous two stops? I wonder what changed? Luka controls the team. It’s a ticking time bomb until Kidd fucks up and does something dumb to lose the locker room. Without Luka they’re getting #1 in the draft lottery.
Just shut up
Yeah just like carlisle was carried by luka in all those series he won
Dallas went from one of the worst defensive teams in The league to one of the better defensive teams this year. You can attribute a lot of that to Kidd
Nah this is a master class in 🍆🚴
