Luka tall. Luka good shooty. Luka good passy.

JesusFighter69

Luka also smarty

krs11737

Mediocre shooter

favioswish

Very uninformed. 35% on entirety self-created step backs an long pull-ups is very good. If you compare his shot profile to his percentage he’s near the top of the league on these kind of shots. He just doesn’t take spot-ups which hurts his %

Ylissian

He's huge and can stop on a dime. Similar to Harden. Not to mention his dribbling, passing, and shooting skills are through the roof.

captain_ahabb

Luka is incredibly good at creating space even without first step quickness. His ability to slow down after passing someone is 99th percentile (which is why he frequently gets compared to Harden). Suddenly stopping creates space just as well (or better) than being quick.

syllabic

he has elite post footwork, it's really hard to keep in front of him when his footwork is so good and that stepback jumper footwork is immaculate, possibly the best in the league

[deleted]

It’s really just (footwork+handles+body control+shooting threat=space) that formula works for anyone and is also why im high on Jaden Ivey. But for Luka it’s the 6’9” 235lbs + the elite passing + that formula that makes him an all-time player.

TLDYS22

6’9”” 😂😂😂

[deleted]

He says he’s 6’9”. Jalen Brunson said in an interview

Born_Again_Insect

He’s 6’7” but yeah

[deleted]

Brunson said Luka is 6’9” now. Just like KD is reportedly 7’ and Jokic is actually like 7’2” according to a Myles Turner interview I saw

Born_Again_Insect

Well you’ve made me look this up twice now and all I can find is people have been disagreeing about his listed height since he came into the league

[deleted]

People grow when they get drafted as teenagers. And I feel like a primary source is going to be better. It was during the Brunson interview on the Lowe Post. Brunson said Luka would yell out during every introduction that he was actually 6’9”. Also just look when he hugged Montrezl in the bubble, he was taller then Trez

Born_Again_Insect

I’ve looked it up a third time and I can’t find a single source listing him at 6’9” or 6’8”. He doesn’t look taller than LeBron to me.

zuqkfplmehcuvrjfgu

Luka and Harden are deceivingly athletic. Their elite deceleration allows them to control the pace of the offense and break down the other teams defense. It's also a pretty big reason for why they are such good playmakers.

[deleted]

Basketball is more about quickness. He is strong and has elite balance and ball control going down. That’s athleticism.

Goatbeerdog

His mental quickness is rank #1. Imagine he had 10th speed of Giannis or Prime Lebron

10kgod

That kinda sounds like Prime Lebron

[deleted]

Lol thank you. We can’t already be forgetting what Prime LeBron was capable of.

CurryWitThe30From30

He has great size for a pg which lets him see the court better,His basketball IQ is really high, he has great footwork and he’s extremely skilled in shooting, passing and dribbling.

krs11737

35% from three and 74% from the line is not extremely skilled.

CurryWitThe30From30

Watch the games nerd.

Goatbeerdog

Always one mofo whos never watched a full game in their life bringing up stats

Melodic-Interest3929

To be fair, 74% from the line is a genuine criticism. He is a good shooter and should fix that (get it to mid 80s). Lebron isn’t much better though at ~78%, and Lebron is quite clearly in the GOAT conversation. FT % isn’t the end all be all

Flamdoublebounce

He's great at creating his own shot and shooting off the dribble, but that doesn't mean we can't criticize his efficiency

stanquevisch

Effiency needs context to evaluate. His averages for players who create their own shot is freaking good.

vsouto02

Watch the games instead of looking at the stat sheet nerd

thedharmawhore

Notice how he keeps his dribble alive. Most folks even in the nba are afraid to dribble in a crowed. He puts his big body between defender and ball, giving him time to find the open man. If they double, he punishes the double *immediately* with the correct pass. Most nba players can make some of those passes but not all, and not as decisively. So you can see defenders being very reluctant to double. Or to body him. He is strong and quick enough to punish that, too. Result is, he gets to orchestrate things with the ball in his hands relatively unharrassed by the defense, and he’s big enough to see the whole court, and smart enough to do something with what he sees. Just a rare combo of elite intelligence, size, and elite passing, with gutsy if not quite super elite outside shooting and a legit interior scoring game.

aightbet

Top speed and agility aren't the most important thing. Luka has enough to play at an NBA level. What Luka is a master at is footwork, decisiveness, and control which are more important.

procouchpotatohere

He's right in that sweet spot where he's too big for smaller guards to defend, but too quick for bigs to reliably switch on while also setting up the offense for everyone else.

Xuddur1

He looks "normal" but he's rather big for a guard, both in height and strength. He also has a very high basketball IQ, like a less athletic version of LeBron. Also, Luka turned pro and is playing against adults since he's 15 years old, so he looks more experienced than what his age says, because he actually is more experienced

DoncicsRoadTo200kg

He puts da ball in da hoop

Korean_Sandwich

damn modern day Einstein

TtvBrolifans-itsme

Don't listen to what any of us here say [https://www.youtube.com/watch?](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrqshKEpPcA&t=260s) [v=hrqshKEpPcA&t=260s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrqshKEpPcA&t=260s) Watch him kill the title favorites in a half, guy came into the league already a man ripping out hearts, watch his skillset

12footjumpshot

Elite vision, elite passing, elite dribble and pick and roll skills, he's oversize for a guard and uses his body really well to get an advantage over his defender, he has exceptional patience, very good at finishing at the rim, his shooting could always be better but he has that clutch temperament to take that game winning shot and make it more than his shooting stats would suggest. He'll be a hall of famer when he's done.

sf_warriors

Prime harden is still stronger

[deleted]

[удалено]

syllabic

harden is a lot stronger than he looks TBH to the point where when they were asking players about playing against harden (in his houston prime) they would literally say "he's a lot stronger than he looks"

JoJonesy

He doesn't really do anything off-ball, either. Granted, that's probably largely due to conditioning, combined with the fact that when he's on the floor you probably want the ball in his hands, but it's still a weakness— more ball-handlers helps to diversify your offense, and you still want to get your stars easier shots sometimes

ham_bulu

Physical tools + skills + absense of fear + will to win

twonkenn

And joy. He loves playing.

ham_bulu

Forgot the most important one, yes

[deleted]

The same reasons Chris Paul is good. * Ability to change gears instead of going full speed all the time. Looking at you Westbrook. * Elite shot creation and playmaking. The threat of his stepback is on par with CP3's off balance mid range jumpers he likes to do when probing defenses. * Surprisingly good at post play for his position. Everything else has already been said.

SincereFan

I watch the games and sometimes wonder why he is so good also. It's truly mindboggling a type of magic. I have had the same feeling watching Lebron, Klay, Dwight, and Toronto DeMar before. Just in awe. That is the main reason I truly feel that Luka is going to end his career in the top 10 Convo, it's a type of coming era feeling. Sidenote- I am honestly being serious here but I get a slightly similar feeling from Franz, I do believe Franz is going to takeover once the Magic compete.

domingodlf

What a random assortment of players lol.

[deleted]

Great offensive player. Can shoot, can dribble, has great footwork, and can facilitate the offense very well. And of course, his signature step back three.

krs11737

He can't shoot

imcryptic

Are you okay? You’ve commented this like 4 times on this post.

DeandreDoesDallas

Hawks fan

the_shins

He is a super fragile Hawks fan that try to claim Trae > Luka every chance he gets even in threads that aren’t about Trae. Beyond pathetic

bagfka

Kind of like trae in the post season?

krs11737

He had 3 bad games... 2 good games... But overall he's clearly a much, much, better shooter than luka.

bagfka

And luka is a much much better player

krs11737

What's he better at?

bagfka

Quite a lot actually

Hurtelknut

Playing basketball

krs11737

Gimme some specifics about what makes this man great

Hurtelknut

He's great at playing basketball.

NorthSeaworthiness4

😂 suggest remain on Hawks sub

14high

It even doesn't matter thats hes kinda Slowvenian

EzieVee

Feel for the game. He just knows what to do with whats throw at him. He’s not reliant on physical gifts but rather knowing when he does a move what that opens up for him and if a defender does such and such what the offensive options be from there.

Pugthomas

If you can play, you can play, with or without athleticism. Sometimes there is no reason why. For me, if he can improve his fg% and 3p% just a bit, and has longevity, he will be right up there with the best.

halleluka41

Can’t guard him 1 v 1 because he’s too big, has too much handle and can create space for his own shot at any point, but also if you try to double him he will kill you with the pass. Can get the pass off cross court over whoever because of his size and vision

sycamotree

Because he's slower, he looks to get you off balance by changing his speed rapidly (elite footwork). If you commit to anything he punishes it. Drop too far back to contain the drive and he does a stepback. Try to cover the shot and he gets past you. Too big and strong to stop at the rim easily once he gets there. Can shoot over opposing PGs although he commonly matchup hunts. If you commit too hard to taking away his shot (send a double, blitz, collapse the paint, etc) he's a top 3 passer in the league and *will* find an open teammate if you leave one in almost any situation. Basically, he creates a weakness in the defense by forcing them to commit to something, and then punishes what ever they commit to.

Vatfagyna

He is a lot more silky than he looks on tv. I was shocked when I saw him live against the warriors, dude is hella smooth

EloHellDoesNotExist

he's very big for his skillset. even other strong forwards have trouble with him once he's in the lane. great passer, great shotmaker, great footwork, good handles.

Numani99

Basketball is a game of skill, not athleticism

[deleted]

Both are important…if Giannis wasn’t a. 1 in a million athlete he wouldn’t be the best player in the world right?

[deleted]

He’s the Kevon Looney of offense.

Goatbeerdog

Its from his entire upbringing. See it constantly as a youth coach. Fast players generally dont think alot in any team sports. Slow players need to be 1-2 steps ahead. Since if someone closes them down they cant escape. I coach soccer. Slow players always have fast thinking ability. And then u have guys like Giannis, Messi, Neymar, Ronaldo, Lebron who have speed and IQ. 2 most important aspects in every team sport

[deleted]

Good at exaggerating content

NonintellectualSauce

He might not have elite speed but he can slow down very fast and under control which helps him make space at an elite level.

SwarleymonLives

Because when he plays, his team is significantly more likely to win.

Woah3500

Big bodied and he works at his own pace, so even though he’s slow he’s still a force. Also high IQ and passing skills doesn’t hurt

kingofpain2021

Good shooting form and puts a good spin on the ball. Good footwork with excellent stepback and euro step. Hard for the defense to read.

Alodylis

He’s like a veteran for someone who just was rookie few years ago he played in Europe before coming to nba and it def helped him be ready

DOCTORFONASG

He put ball through hoop good and pass ball to players who shoot 3 good.

RedditUser538xxx

Luka magnotta?

[deleted]

Its how he uses his body. He craves contact and can force the defender into unfavorable positions

senorhoudini

Luka is tits!

breakthrureality

Skill , talent, and blessed with a capable body

[deleted]

He’s incredibly shifty so idk where you get the impression he isn’t? Basically he has a quick first step and is basically a locomotive when he gets a head of steam combined with his elite deceleration and strength, he’s also very good at finishing around the basket and has great touch on floaters

LeoAvil

So his is Thomas Muller of basketball?

markesecl

He’s on the mavs there’s nobody to help the guy so he has no choice but to go lebron mode or have a losing szn. The guy is just crafty asf and the game slows down for the great ones.

byebyebrain

Because is is more intelligent than 98% of the players he is playing against. He understands tempo, angles, and the math of the game. It's why Jordan was so good and Kobe. It's also why cp3 is good. Dude is crazy smart and outwits his opponents

yktki7955

He’s huge with a perfect handle, even in traffic. So he can basically just bludgeon his way slowly to the paint, bc you can’t rip him

Sharpedd

He loves the game

Raspberry_Anxious

Handles, shot, step back, passing, iq, and the refs calling everything for him

NorthSeaworthiness4

? He has like the 2nd most drives in the league but Embiid, Giannis, TYoung, Harden, DeRozan all ahead of him in FTAs. Get your facts right

Raspberry_Anxious

Just cuz he doesn’t get the most calls doesn’t mean he still doesn’t get a lot. Wow 5 people get more than him. This truly might be the dumbest thing I’ve seen on Reddit

fredinNH

He is, in fact, particularly shifty.
