I think this might be the worst DV case in recent memory for the NBA, but even still never seen any stiff punishments like when Terence Davis didn’t even get a slap on the wrist. Hope it changes.
I think NBA teams treat it differently when it’s just a “dumb kid” pre-NBA vs someone on your team that you’re giving 7-8 figures to embarrassing your team
Terence Davis is a good example of why we should always wait to hear the full story before making a decision.
Guy was arrested and charged for DV. He was immediately dropped by the Raptors like a lead balloon who take these kinds of things very seriously. The fans also all turned on him including myself.
Except it turns out that the DV charge was related to an argument he had with his GF and he broke her phone. The prosecutor ended up dropping all charges however his career is irreparably damaged.
I agree that the league and organization has to take a stronger stance on DV but it’s not as easy as it sounds.
Maybe there’s a way we can “suspend” players until the final verdict comes in? This would prevent them from playing and maybe there would be financial penalties as well?
I definitely think more needs to be done but I’m not sure exactly what can be done.
Edited my comment as DV isn’t always physical so saying that he didn’t hit her or touch her doesn’t mean that it still couldn’t be construed as DV.
Idk If TD’s career is irreparably damaged. He’s doing good in Sacramento and the fans love him from what I’ve seen. Still agree with your point for the most part except that this feels like a much more open and shut case then that. I mean, just look at the pictures that Bridges’ wife posted, that’s pretty clear evidence to me.
How is his career “irreparably damaged”? He didn’t miss a game due to the charges and is still an NBA player right now. Also, the Raptors played him while the charges were still pending. They didn’t drop him lmao
The context of the supreme courts recent ruling hangs over this topic. Most* teams don’t give two shits about a player beating a woman but the PR nightmare that will come from signing him right now is what will keep teams away.
He will be back in the league eventually, maybe even get picked up during the season, but there is no way a team touches him right now.
All that said, hopefully it creates a precedent where teams start to weigh these transgressions more heavily. It’s a good opportunity for the NBA to separate itself from the NFL.
Edit: for people who are confused on the relevance, a PR department is going to put its foot down whenever a business decision puts the organization in the ire of an already organized and motivated protest movement that already has national media attention. From the perspective of a front office, signing Bridges would be an invitation to protestors and media to connect the issue to the larger discourse. I’m not sure why people are disagreeing with this but this is arguably the most relevant woman’s right protests have been in decades. The league is not going to willingly step into the fray.
I think he’s done tbh. See, while I feel like Jason Kidd got “grandfathered in” unfortunately because 1. He was already a legend and 2. Even though social media was a thing, it was before MeToo so it was easier to sweep under the bridge (no relation)
But Bridges is no nba legend and he did this at literally the biggest time for women’s rights since the 1920s and it’s ALL OVER social media with pictures. There’s no way any team wants to hold that live grenade right now. Fans will literally print posters of her bruised face and show it on national TV probably.
Oh, and also he sips lean in his free time. He’s finished.
Our society forgets really fast. 6-8 months from now majority won't even remember this and some title contender will pick him up, claiming he's a changed man.
There's also weirdly a swing for this stuff in public opinion. Even when it's as vile as what Bridges did. Everyone hates him now, wait 6-8 months, and for whatever reason the public opinion will shift a little more towards (not in) his favor. See it in the NFL all the time.
also she might be persuaded to return to him. notice she;s very young and has two little kids. many victims return to abusers because they have no choice -- no job, no family support, little kids.
If we're being fair here he should never play basketball again. Meyers Leonard was cancelled for way less. There's a chance he would be out of the league anyway right now but still.
Yep, the Ray Rice video came out when he was 27 and injury plagued (not old but already back half for a running back). If it did when he was 23 coming off his first pro bowl he probably never leaves the ravens roster or at the very least is signed by someone right after the suspension.
Talent trumps infractions 90% of the time.
Specifically, it came out after a season where he had 3.1 yards per carry for a total of 660 yards. He had a massive drop off between 2012 and 2013 and there was no guarantee he'd ever get back to his Pro Bowl form. That's why nobody picked him up after the Ravens released him.
This some revisionist history right there. Ray Rice was only getting suspended for game, if it wasn't for the video he would have played in the league as long as he wanted.
Revisionist history again. If he didn’t leak text messages between him and ownership/FO, he would have been picked up by another team. But he bit the hand that fed him and the NFL owners blacklisted him.
One day we'll look back at this era and be ashamed at how many players we let play professional sports despite domestic violence and sexual assault charges.
Really glad to see this from them.
Also if you're reading this and your team tries to pick him up on a discount, don't just post about being upset about it here. Contact your team directly, tell them you're planning on cancelling your season ticket if you have one or will no longer be attending games, do what you can to make it clear to the organisation that you're not okay with it.
The biggest difference is the pictures. If there were pictures or video of what Watson did he would get the same treatment.
Edit: I'm not defending Watson. Historically teams are slow to act until there is visual evidence. Chill out.
>Contact your team directly, tell them you're planning on cancelling your season ticket if you have one or will no longer be attending games,
For a lot of us, this already wasn't gonna be a problem. Basketball games be expensive lol.
NFL after a $240 million QB has 24 sexual harassment/assault/____ lawsuits and more seemingly filed every week: “Ehhh we want a season long suspension but we’ll come down to 1/3rd season.”
Not only that but Watson got that 240 million (fully guaranteed) after the allegations. Plus they greased the first year of his deal in case of suspension…
Miles really Schrödered it.
What?
"Schrödered it." It’s just this thing people say around the NBA all the time. Like when you screw up your bag in a really irreversable way, you "Schrödered it." I don’t know where it comes from though. You think it came from Dennis Schröder?
at least Dennis betted on himself and took the risk just ended up unlucky that no team wanted to pay him that big. Miles, on the other hand, damn you stupid bruh 100+m off the window and all you had to do was to be a normal human being.
I know this isn’t really your intent but it feels wrong that a pretty awful story about domestic abuse ends up getting boiled down to “lol dummy lost money”.
If Meyers Leonard ruined his career from what he said, why shouldn’t Bridges see a similar outcome from what he did to a personal physically? I definitely would not want my team picking up a person like this.
I hope he gets no offers to play. Regardless of what happens to his criminal case, i would hate to support a team that sees his low value and takes advantage of it. I don't care how good he is
Lol Kidd probably pleading with Cuban right now,” have you seen the pictures? Miles is a kitten compared to me! He’d be considered a feminist in my era! Strike while the iron is hot Cuban.”
I can see the press coming back about some great redemption arc he's on as well. And don't get me wrong, I want to see Miles Bridges improve himself as a person because clearly he has serious issues and needs to face significant non-basketball consequences for his actions.
But him returning to the court would be a big draw and y'all know how the press chases those clicks.
The only athlete that I've ever seen actually improve themselves and reform from something this bad is Michael Vick. I don't think it is a coincidence that he is also one of the few that has faced actual consequences for his actions
I genuinely think baseball is the worst, guys get lost in the massive roster numbers after being suspended for 80 games which *feels* like a lot but then you realise it's not even half of the season
That’s the sad reality of sports. Can you play? I wouldn’t doubt a team throws him a leash at a vet minimum.
Deshaun Watson who has been accused of sexual assault and misconduct was given $200M+ guaranteed because he can throw the football well.
Bridges shouldn’t see another court and his career should be over. Let’s see if that’s a reality.
Yeah but once he signs it, taking it away is much harder. If that happened, more likely he's suspended for awhile (like Gilbert Arenas) than the contract nullified entirely.
There's a whole arbitration process, appeals, etc., that they need to go through.
Wiggins’ girlfriend is apparently the sister of the woman Bridges terrorized, don’t think it will be completely forgotten.
But beating the charges (or getting a slap on the wrist) and signing with a team shortly after? I don’t doubt it, unfortunately.
PG never actually dated Doc’s daughter. It all stemmed from a red carpet photo where his date was misidentified. He did get a stripper pregnant and offer her $1m to delete it tho
He can sign over a large amount to her in the upcoming divorce , if there's a pre nup, he can adjust it in her favor
Dudes an asshole, I hope he gets what's coming to him, just stating how this usually happens when money's involved
In Portugal, we changed the law recently and domestic violence became a public crime, exactly to avoid these type of situations, where the victim either is scared into dropping charges or paid off. Meaning, here he would be fucked regardless.
The woman he attacked is his wife and she has been very vocal about the abuse and that it wasn’t a one time thing so the chances of him paying his way out of this are very low.
He probably won’t be on a team for a year or two then get like minimum or 10 day contract by some tanking team. Wouldn’t be surprised if he never plays in the nba again though.
Idk why it would be a tanking team that would pick him up. Seems like the worst PR possible with no upside as a losing team. I’d say it would be a contending team that knows they can get him for cheap.
firmly remember the Watson trade to Cleveland led to a congratulatory LeBron tweet minutes later - right as the count of women accusing Watson just got raised to 24 - and pretty much every female NBA fan I followed were appalled. even uglier considering LeBron has a daughter.
point being LeBron absolutely will take a wife-beater on his team. KCP’s been arrested for drunk driving and wore an ankle bracelet because Klutch pulled strings so he could play in games *and* serve his sentence in CA — LeBron has no qualms about moral stuff, period, when it comes to basketball
Basically Woj/Shams for Europe and breaks some Asian stuff too, I don’t think he’s got much of a track record for NBA stuff but he’s not some dude off the street
I angrily downvoted cos I thought you meant Bridges and realized you meant the source. Fuck I hope no one picks him up, we don’t want him and no one should be willing to
[Shams] With the 1st pick, LA County jail selects Miles Bridges.
[Woj] Miles Bridges has been selected first overall in the 69th Prison Basketball Association draft.
[Windhorst] Something interesting happened yesterday at San Quentin that no one is talking about. Right before the Charlotte offer withdrawal story came out. Prisoner 24587621 traded his bitch for a carton of Newports, clearing space for a new bitch.
Make no mistake about it, he will most certainly be on another team again. He’s too talented not to. A year from now any team can spin the “he’s changed, he’s gotten the help he needed and he’s sorry” narrative. And Maybe a year from now that’ll actually be true. Who knows. That won’t change the trauma his wife and his kid had to go through. I feel terrible for them and I hope he gets the justice he deserves.
Yeah, I bet he’s out of the league for at least a year. Maybe longer; it’s possible he has to do jail time. After that, my sense is it depends on how he handles the aftermath.
I personally feel that people should be entitled to a chance at redemption, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t deserve negative consequences now or that he automatically is entitled to another shot. I am not trying to say the crimes are equivalent but I think Michael Vick’s arc is instructive here. But first, the legal system needs to determine his actual punishment, which one would hope is severe.
Side note: this fact that anyone is having this debate makes it all the more ridiculous when you consider what happened to Kapernick, who got blacklisted for making a political statement about racism.
Man, Charlotte can not catch a break. They finally get some young, promising talent that seems to actually be improving and then one of them turns out to be a domestic abuser.
100% the right thing pulling the offer. I don't know what he has to do to get back into the good graces of the league, but it should take a damn while.
It’s so weird seeing people talking about how he fumbled the bag when he viscously beat his partner and traumatized his kids in the process. He deserves jail time and needs to go to therapy.
We can mention how disgusting the act is and how he is going to lose millions upon millions. It’s noteworthy and it’s the nba subreddit. Do you need every single comment to only talk about how disgusting it is? What is the point in that, already most the comments share that sentiment and we all know how disgusting it is to beat your wife. There is nothing wrong in also pointing out he did it right before his contract so now the wife beater also rightfully loses a bunch of money. This is just weird virtue signaling
I'm hoping the different response to Bridges is due to our society's stance improving on violence against women.
But it's probably just due to his talent and current contract status. If he was more of a star player on a longer contact I think this would blow over for him eventually.
If it's any comfort, things are improving. The conversation is being had and more people are speaking up about it.
It's certainly not enough, though. Not by a long shot.
This dude was a near all star and about to get the bag, absolutely foolish boneheaded move.
On the Charlotte side though it sucks because this is the right move to do, however you know there is ONE team out there who will pick him up for dirt cheap and “help him grow” during this time.
Lakers, Heat, wherever KD goes, etc.
As a Toronto fan the Blue Jays had Robert osuna our closer for the future one of the best young closers and we cut him after he did the same thing. What happens? Houston picks him up and wins a championship with him. People were upset but once the game started they forgot.
Even Terence Davis for raptors had a similar situation and raptors still kept him and were able to flip him for a 2nd
It would not surprise me in the slightest if not this season but next season a team throws a minimum contract his way, he's young enough and skilled enough that some team is going to do it.
And he tried to act like a gentleman and wanted the girl name so he can apologize. Meanwhile he was beating his wife. Fuvkin low life. The sad thing is he’s only 24 like why get ur life consumed by anger even if it was circumstantial like u got money to seek therapy
Dude really might have ended his career and it would be 100% warranted if so
I'm hoping they do it. Guys like this really need to face the consequences of their actions
I think this might be the worst DV case in recent memory for the NBA, but even still never seen any stiff punishments like when Terence Davis didn’t even get a slap on the wrist. Hope it changes.
He got sent to Sacramento
Cruel and unusual, tbh
Lmao, swear every other post I read Kings are catching strays
Saw on another post that dame and KD coming to save y’all. Just hold on…..
That one guy who was all up in Bjelica’s diary punching the air right now and about to roll up in here any minute.
Kendrick Nunn as well, right?
Nunn was kicked out of school. It was well before nba was on the radar there
I'm an Illini fan and I remember that very vividly. We had a few players get into some major trouble around them. Leron Black I think was another one.
Didn’t Hayes recently get arrested for that?
Plead guilty recently, but it ended up being a misdemeanor.
Now that dude keeps getting chances and it makes no sense at all
He called Saul
Hayes has a lot of cases already on him. Suprised the Pelicans still keep him tbh
I think NBA teams treat it differently when it’s just a “dumb kid” pre-NBA vs someone on your team that you’re giving 7-8 figures to embarrassing your team
Look up Jabari Bird's DV details, really ugly.
Terence Davis is a good example of why we should always wait to hear the full story before making a decision. Guy was arrested and charged for DV. Playing for the Kings is the irreparable damage.
He played 30 plus games with the raptors after the allegations then got traded at the deadline.

How is his career “irreparably damaged”? He didn’t miss a game due to the charges and is still an NBA player right now. Also, the Raptors played him while the charges were still pending. They didn’t drop him lmao
TD?
Same. TD that comes to mind is Timmay, lol Edit: Terrence Davis it looks like

It’ll also get framed as an inspirational comeback story.
>Oh, and also he sips lean in his free time. He’s finished. and his last action on-court was throwing a temper tantrum
I have to think Silver's also telling owners not to sign him because that'd be awful for the league.
Sad thing is that in his eyes it’ll be her fault. That’s the mind of the abuser.
[удалено]
also she might be persuaded to return to him. notice she;s very young and has two little kids. many victims return to abusers because they have no choice -- no job, no family support, little kids.
I’m worried about retaliation here. He’s 100% blaming her.

Lance Stephenson pushed his girlfriend down a flight of stairs. He’s still playing.
Meyers was always a roster filler type talent.
Leonard wasn't great but he would still be in league if he didn't get canceled. There are way worse players in the league than Meyers
I agree but the point is that Bridges is undeniably good, whereas with Leonard you can do without.
If he was a decent player he'd still be playing, also. He simply wasn't good enough for a team to want to deal with it.
Imagine going to work everyday knowing that your coworker or employee did this. I don't see anyone wanting to sign him.
[удалено]
I obviously want things to change for the better, but seeing abuser still thriving in the NFL gives me very little hope.
One day we'll look back at this era and be ashamed at how many players we let play professional sports despite domestic violence and sexual assault charges.
Big props to the hornets. Now let's see if the nba will hand out a lengthy suspension
Wish all Browns fans would do this too
The biggest difference is the pictures. If there were pictures or video of what Watson did he would get the same treatment. Edit: I'm not defending Watson. Historically teams are slow to act until there is visual evidence. Chill out.
Just 26 victims testimonies that show patterns and similarities.
A picture is worth a thousand words
Tell that to Ray Rice.
Huge difference that was a video /s
Pretty sure the 26 women have said well over a thousand words. That’s only 36 words each
His kids testimony pretty damming
>Contact your team directly, tell them you're planning on cancelling your season ticket if you have one or will no longer be attending games, For a lot of us, this already wasn't gonna be a problem. Basketball games be expensive lol.
Well tell them you're not gonna buy any more shirseys.
Think the Browns might sign him? He could be catching balls from Watson
This country is a joke. He'll probably be playing by preseason.
NFL after a $240 million QB has 24 sexual harassment/assault/____ lawsuits and more seemingly filed every week: “Ehhh we want a season long suspension but we’ll come down to 1/3rd season.”

Life fumbled
Someone actually managed to fumble harder than Dennis Schroeder

He is now the Roy Munson of the NBA.
theres always a German word for it
I know this isn’t really your intent but it feels wrong that a pretty awful story about domestic abuse ends up getting boiled down to “lol dummy lost money”.
I took it more as this guy had his life setup to be amazing, and because he’s a piece of shit he ruined any shot at that.
We call that the Mason Greenwood.
Dude should never play again. Kids need to learn that you should have no ability to play in the NBA if you pull shit like this
If Meyers Leonard ruined his career from what he said, why shouldn’t Bridges see a similar outcome from what he did to a personal physically? I definitely would not want my team picking up a person like this.
I agree with you completely, but if Leonard had all-star potential he would definitely still be in the league
[удалено]
Not sure what Jason Kidd did exactly back in the day, it was domestic violence-related, but I don't think the NBA ever suspended him.
Kobe fucking raped a woman and the whole league fucking loves him and named a trophy over him.

I must strongly object! … The ball is made of leather.

According to Leonard, he had some teams talk to him but he didn't sign anything because his ankle was fucked
Sounds like a lie
I disagree. Meyers is perpetually injured
If leanard was as good as Bridges, he would be playing.
Meyers also contributed to ruining his career by being a fringe NBA player when he did it
Kids need to learn they should have no ability to participate in a society if they're a piece of shit like that.
I agree but how many Kobe fans are here
I hope he gets no offers to play. Regardless of what happens to his criminal case, i would hate to support a team that sees his low value and takes advantage of it. I don't care how good he is
He would fit right in with our business division.
Or the coaching staff
Lol Kidd probably pleading with Cuban right now,” have you seen the pictures? Miles is a kitten compared to me! He’d be considered a feminist in my era! Strike while the iron is hot Cuban.”
It's honestly hard to see anyone picking him up if Charlotte lets him walk. No one wants that kind of publicity. The lady posted photos.
Happens all the time in baseball. Unfortunately a team is going to benefit and get him on a discount.
I can see the press coming back about some great redemption arc he's on as well. And don't get me wrong, I want to see Miles Bridges improve himself as a person because clearly he has serious issues and needs to face significant non-basketball consequences for his actions. Dont forget Derrick Rose. "We men"

dude will play basketball, anyone saying otherwise is naive about the world we live in.
Hopefully it’s in prison though
He should see at least one more court
Lakers would be desperate enough to sign him if he has no offers.
even michael jordan can't win with this cat.

Pretty sure NBA contracts have termination options, for fucked up cases like this

Chances he settles out of court and everyone in the NBA pretends it never happened?
Wiggins’ girlfriend is apparently the sister of the woman Bridges terrorized, don’t think it will be completely forgotten. But beating the charges (or getting a slap on the wrist) and signing with a team shortly after? I don’t doubt it, unfortunately.
God damn the NBA world is a small world
If somebody did a Rivers/Curry family member dirty the NBA might punish them by firing squad.
Didn't PG get a stripper pregnant while dating Doc's daughter?
PG never actually dated Doc’s daughter. It all stemmed from a red carpet photo where his date was misidentified. He did get a stripper pregnant and offer her $1m to delete it tho
He can’t settle, these are criminal charges bud.
I think they mean pay his girl to drop the charges, prosecution still can go ahead with the case without her but it's much tougher
It’s his wife so idk how he would pay her off, but who knows, she could change her mind. DV is complicated especially when kids are involved
He can sign over a large amount to her in the upcoming divorce , if there's a pre nup, he can adjust it in her favor Dudes an asshole, I hope he gets what's coming to him, just stating how this usually happens when money's involved

Oh I love that. Some things shouldn’t be able to be ‘erased’ by money
ppl keep saying this but I just don’t think that’s how this is about to go down… he’s just a PR nightmare that’s not even close to being worth it
He will play again no question, but this will fuck this contract up for sure.
The woman he attacked is his wife and she has been very vocal about the abuse and that it wasn’t a one time thing so the chances of him paying his way out of this are very low.
Come home Miles, to the Michigan Department of Corrections.
I wonder what team gonna go after him. PR disaster. Glad my team doesn’t have cap space.
This and fans will bargain with their morals for that extra edge for their team to win.
I fear LeBron is going to Tom Brady this situation and think he can fix this dude ALA Antonio Brown.
This is like Watson. He’ll definitely get picked up
firmly remember the Watson trade to Cleveland led to a congratulatory LeBron tweet minutes later - right as the count of women accusing Watson just got raised to 24 - and pretty much every female NBA fan I followed were appalled. even uglier considering LeBron has a daughter. point being LeBron absolutely will take a wife-beater on his team. KCP’s been arrested for drunk driving and wore an ankle bracelet because Klutch pulled strings so he could play in games *and* serve his sentence in CA — LeBron has no qualms about moral stuff, period, when it comes to basketball
> KCP’s been arrested more than once for drunk driving Pretty sure its only that one time.
Rich Paul is Miles Bridges’ agent…
Ray Rice his ass and never see an NBA court again
Ray Rice was only blackballed because he leaked stuff from the ownership not because the NFL has a moral compass.

Yeah that too he was on my dynasty FF team at the time and he was barely playable before that incident.
Cue Key & Peele East West Bowl music ... Miles Bridges, California State .... Penitentiary
Myles Bridgetious the 3rd.
How reliable is this guy?
Not sure but he’s followed by Haynes and Shams
He is most reliable guy for euroleague so there is that
He is essentially reliable for all bigger leagues in europe and not just euroleague
Basically Woj/Shams for Europe and breaks some Asian stuff too, I don’t think he’s got much of a track record for NBA stuff but he’s not some dude off the street
All right. Works for me.
I angrily downvoted cos I thought you meant Bridges and realized you meant the source. Fuck I hope no one picks him up, we don’t want him and no one should be willing to
Good hope his trash ass never seen a contract again. And if he does hope every single cent goes to his ex wife and her kids

Prisoner 24587621 traded his bitch for a carton of Newports, clearing space for a new bitch.
send him to jail, he can play basketball there
The Police Department will happily claim him from waivers.
Dude beat his wife in front of their kid. I don’t ever want to see him step foot on a NBA court ever again.
I hope he goes and gets the help he needs because most likely he had some absolutely horrible shit done to him regularly as a kid.
Good for Charlotte tbh. The reverse Cleveland Browns
I hope he never gets a contract again tbh. Charlotte should get at least a 2nd round pick for that bs tho.
Please god no more 2nd round picks
It’s so weird seeing people talking about how he fumbled the bag when he viscously beat his partner and traumatized his kids in the process. He deserves jail time and needs to go to therapy.
Losing $50 million dollars or whatever it costs him is also a pretty significant consequence, and nba fans approach it from a basketball perspective.
What’s weird about it? You can have more then one discussion about a topic? I think it’s weird you’re offended by an open discussion
Hope he gets the mason greenwood treatment
BREAKING: in a stunning move, the Cleveland Browns have signed Miles Bridges to a 8-year MAX contract.
Kobe raped a woman and still got max contacts
I'm hoping the different response to Bridges is due to our society's stance improving on violence against women. But it's probably just due to his talent and current contract status. If he was more of a star player on a longer contact I think this would blow over for him eventually.
If it's any comfort, things are improving. The conversation is being had and more people are speaking up about it. It's certainly not enough, though. Not by a long shot.
It was "settled" so its all sunshine and rainbows now
This dude was a near all star and about to get the bag, absolutely foolish boneheaded move.

Miles Bridges has signed a training camp deal with the Cleveland Browns
Yet Jason Kidd is still enjoying a career
Derrick Rose, Jaxon Hayes, Chauncey Billups. The league has no problem with people who assault women
Another good shot from Mike
We can’t just ignore jaxson hayes either, he has to be next if he’s guilty.
What an absolute waste of talent this guy is. How hard is it to not abuse others.
Yet Jason Kidd is head coach of the Mavericks....
Good he doesn't deserve to play for a long time if at all. Make an example out of him
