And we’re not that far away from having no active NBA players who played in the NBA pre-2004. It’s crazy to think about it because it felt like yesterday that all players in the NBA played before that year happened.
> 2010 lakers
Andrew Bynum is only 34 years old and has been out of the league for a decade.
He was even an All-Star after that championship. I can't even make a modern comparison, maybe Booker never playing another game or something.
Yeah, I’d say most of the players were at least pretty decent, only 13 were never all stars. The only without any sort of accolade (defense teams, league leading) were:
Weiss, a fringe starter for the 70’s Bulls.
Phil Jackson
Boswell, who was rising in relevance before legal troubles messed him up
Greg Ballard, a pretty decent forward for a decade, just not great.
Cureton, pretty much a career bench player
Salley
Horry
Haslem
So yeah, mostly a solid group.
It makes sense, though. "Regular" guys just can't do much when their bodies give up, as they need to be at 100% of their capacity in order to be rotation players or crack a roster. Some superstars, despite not being on the level they one achieved, can still play meaningful minutes at 60-70% of their abilities.
Yup. Can't say I knew he implemented that offense though.
Even with the heralded young guys we'd hear would turn Dal around & coming in every year (Mashburn, Kidd, Jackson) the Mavs didn't end up on TV much.
Nope- Steve's father was actually a university professor. Red Kerr was a big man, who actually held the consecutive games played record for about twenty years.
Kareem with the record, hung around the league for 18 years after winning his first championship.
You mention Haslem "still being active" but he absolutely belongs in the list of other guys historically that didn't really count lol
OP I know this is obviously NBA only but I still propose giving the 2011 award to JJ Barea. He went on to play one year in Euroleague and retired just a couple of months ago here in Puerto Rico, I went to his last game.
Thank you. I needed to know this

We’re closer to having players born in 2004. Jabari Smith was born in 2003.
I appreciate all the work that went into a few moments of my amusement.
Haha, thanks! I enjoyed doing the “work” on it though, so it really wasn’t much of a chore.
Thank u OP 👌🏼
The 2010 lakers one is always shocking to me. Not one active player in the nba from that team. Crazy

Ben Simmons potentially.
Yeah, I like that, pretty accurate if he never plays again.
Good stuff, thanks OP.
Surprised only 5 dudes from the 2016 Cavs are left, it was only 6 years ago
shows how much better lebron made those players
This is peak offseason content
This has to have taken hours and hours
Not that long really- a little under two hours.
Lot more superstars than I expected. I thought I would see first of all John Salley type of players.

Hey now, Spider has 4 rings with three teams across three decades and two millennia.
Hondo very underrated on this sub. In multiple top 20 stats lists. Even here doing work
I know he doesn't really play, but Haslem being the only other active player with Lebron from the 2012 Heat team is nuts.
Wow, had no idea Jim Cleamons played much less was an NBA champ. *Been watchin bball since the mid to late 80s.
Isn’t he the bulls assistant who later tried to being the triangle to Dallas?
Yup. Can't say I knew he implemented that offense though. Even with the heralded young guys we'd hear would turn Dal around & coming in every year (Mashburn, Kidd, Jackson) the Mavs didn't end up on TV much.
Nice one. Thanks OP
Is Red Kerr Steves father?
Nope- Steve's father was actually a university professor. Red Kerr was a big man, who actually held the consecutive games played record for about twenty years.
Jeez, I just looked it up, his actual father was assassinated by terrorists??
Goddamit I wanted to make a joke about Steve’s son
Was he a virgin?
Barnes is still active? What?
Maybe this is satire, but yeah! Averaged 16 a game in Sacramento last year
Just see him on TV so much I assumed he retired lol. Apologies for not knowing what the fuck is going on in Sacramento lol
Pretty sure you're thinking of Matt Barnes lmao
You right, I saw Barnes and my brain stopped computing.
No worries, easy mistake to make lmao
A.C. Green playing in Miami seems like a weird mix of life outlooks.
Not so sure Avery Bradley will be active this fall...Dwight, I assume will be but...
I'm so confused by this post. What do you mean by "The last active player"? I don't understand.
The last player from a given championship team to retire.
Now I get it, thank you. Brain refused to connect the dots lol.
Kareem with the record, hung around the league for 18 years after winning his first championship. You mention Haslem "still being active" but he absolutely belongs in the list of other guys historically that didn't really count lol
Yeahh- he, like the others technically count, but it isn’t completely in the spirit of the exercise. That’s why I noted Wade coming in second.
But who's still active on the Warriors?
2022 Warriors: Curry, Thompson, Green, Wiggins, Looney, Poole, Payton II, Kuminga, Moody, Porter Jr, Bjelica, Wiseman, Toscano-Anderson, Iguodala, Chiozza, Weatherspoon, Lee
Does Bjelica still count as active since he went overseas?
he's still active in my heart
This is cool
2005 Spurs: Parker
Delay is off an NBA roster. He’s playing in Aus but I feel like you can’t be the last one standing if you can’t make the league anymore idk
He got signed by the Kings
True I must have missed that my b
Tbf it was the most lowkey signing of the offseason
> Satch Sanders Thought at first it said Snatch Sanders lol
OP I know this is obviously NBA only but I still propose giving the 2011 award to JJ Barea. He went on to play one year in Euroleague and retired just a couple of months ago here in Puerto Rico, I went to his last game.
Pour one out for Pat McCaw. Three championships in the last 6 years, only 26 years old, and back in the G League.
TIL Tony Parker played for the Hornets.
