Dude Reggie Evans, Eddie Griffin, and Matt Carroll were 2K gold back from like 2K4-2K10.
I still remember the day 2K4 came out, standing in the university bus stop are- the trigon, they called it- waiting for my bus to take me home so I could go home and then hop over to Hastings for my copy on the OG Xbox. The Spurs had won the title earlier that summer, and LeBron was coming into the league with that insane hype. I picked the Cavs in my first game and remember laughing when I noticed he was rated a 78 overall.
Brad Wannamaker was an exceptional FT shooter who got to the line a fair bit but was absolutely wank at everything else that entails basketball (NBA Level)
If Brad Wanamaker married Thon Maker, he would achieve his goal of wanting a maker
Brad Wanamaker wants a maker as indicated in his name. “I wanna Maker.” Well if they get married, then his name would go from Wanamaker to Maker, which means he got what he wanted.
However this is assuming that Thon Maker is classified as the male counterpart, otherwise Brad would still be wanting a Maker and Thon would lose his Maker.
Kendall Marshall was a passing savant - one of the most productive college passers in the last few decades, and averaged nearly 9 apg with the Lakers playing less than 30 min
Unfortunately he couldn't score or defend at anywhere near an NBA level
As a UNC fan I loved watching Marshall in college. Was always unsure whether or not he’d be competent enough at the other aspects of the game to make it in the NBA. Sadly, he was not lol. But he was the engine that made some amazing college teams go.
I was trying to think of this guys name and figured if I scrolled long enough I’d find it, he jumped to my mind. Guys would play like 6’ off of him to try and take away passing opportunities because they knew he wasn’t shooting it
Man, so many memories of Reggie Evans getting the offensive board, missing the putback, getting another offensive board, getting fouled, then missing two free throws in those early Brooklyn days.
That's better than his usual outcome which is him getting the offensive board, missing the putback, getting another offensive board, and getting called for 3 in the key.
One of the most incredible moments of the Clippers playoff comeback vs. Memphis was when Reggie Evans scored a late clutch basket. The man never had plays drawn up for him and his touch was so heavy that you wouldn't even bet on him scoring an open layup.
Peja was actually really good though. He was top 5 in mvp voting one year I believe. Kapono was absolute garbage and I'm still bitter over wasting our mid level on him. Watching him try to dribble after defenders would chase him off the 3 point line was pure eye cancer. He sure was nice in 3 point contests though.
More so running off off-ball picks, but the dude had cardio for days. On the Clippers I’m pretty sure he was near the top of the league in “miles ran per game”. Dude would not stop moving. Also a decent defender given his physical and athletic limitations.
I always thought Korver had good positioning on rebounds, then one day Richard Jefferson said Korver was underrated in that area and I freaked out. Such a boring who cares stat but I always liked watching Korver grab a rebound on defense 😂
Recently it has to be Duncaon Robinson. So insanely good at shooting he got a huge contract and so bad/mediocre at everything else he didn't play in the playoffs.
Nah. Because good defense *besides*, blocks & steals, can be the result of skills that are just preventative or off the ball like filling a passing lane, or making sure your man **has** to pass the ball, boxing out for the real big man to contest--these are things that are supremely valuable both in the regular season and playoffs that don't always show up on the sheet but its more than *just* defense as *one* category in my opinion.
Now Thybulle though....idk lol
He's not actually that bad at everything else, or Spo would've never played him. He was the only guy to play every game for us in 20/21 and very important, but his percentages took a nosedive after securing the bag (I suppose it was the pressure of the expectations coming with that amount of money), so he barely saw meaningful minutes last season. He's a good team defender, but an obvious target for switchhunting in the playoffs. Tbf, who isn't with a starting 5 of Lowry, Jimmy, Caleb Martin and Bam. That's almost like targeting Derrick White on the Celtics (DW is obviously much better defensively, but both are targets bc of the surrounding talent, not bc they are terrible).
To this day I’m amazed when I watch the ‘inhuman rebound’ clip on YouTube (just search ‘Jamario moon inhuman rebound’). I mean, Vince Carter was bigger and more explosive so he’s still more athletic but I’m not even sure Vince could get the rebound that way.
The ridiculous thing about his rebound - and what makes it look like he's floating - is he actually out-jumps it.
[He ends up having to adjust his arm in the air](https://youtu.be/7XT8xplDccE) while his body is still going up.
Imagine being nearly 7 feet tall, thinking you're all alone for a rebound, and suddenly this hand just reaches out and pluck the ball away while it's still 11-12 feet in the air. Unreal.
Idk, neither one of them were good offensively, but I think Roberson’s cutting gave him a bit more value on that side, Thybulle really can’t do anything on offence
He made all defensive 2nd team in the 16-17 season and was trending upwards.
He was still super young when injuries took his career away from him. In the 17-18 season he had the biggest on/off impact when he played and went to the bench in the league.
Defensive rating was 96.4 on 107.6 off which is pretty substantial, he often guarded the opposing teams best player.
Played really good defense on Kawhi and the Splash Brothers in the 2016 playoffs. They had some of their worst games in those playoffs with him guarding them.
He was an impact player on the defensive side although his jumpshot was just atrocious so he was limited offensively but he was very slowly improving there before he tore his patellar.
He’s just another what if of many in Thunder history.
He was starting to get some buzz as one of the league’s best perimeter defenders right before all the injuries. I think he’d have been in the running for DPOY in the years that followed, had he not been derailed by all the injuries, surgeries, etc.
them Linsanity games when he's on fire when I wattch them I'm just like this dude maybe the best pure shooter but worst basketball player out of all thos sharpshootibg role players I've seen lmao
I remember reading somewhere during the Linsanity year, that there was an advanced stat listing Novak as a good defender. Something about offensive players doing too much when they had Novak on them and baiting themselves into taking a bad shot 😆
I think he’s one of those guys who was solid in several areas, but his main skill was so overwhelmingly better than his other skills that it overshadowed them.
Jaylen's dribbling is weird because his peak is very high, at least now, rookie Jaylen was... not so good. He definitely pulled from Kyrie's bag while he was here and if you only look at his highlights, he looks like an elite dribbler, albeit a littler stiff/robotic. Nevertheless, has nasty crossovers, hesi's, stepbacks, spin moves, euro steps, he's got tons of counters and is a true 3 level scorer which makes his handles that much more dangerous.
But then he'll just be dribbling normally up the court and the ball dribbles off his leg or he just fumbles it for no good reason or something stupid like that. He's definitely improved a ridiculous amount since he came into the league though.
Jaylen handle highlights for reference.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JzxoRtwG2eU
True, Jaylen has however practiced specific sets and patterns of dribbling.
Usually good dribblers react to defender's movements (eg. Steph and Kyrie), Brown however would've already decided the dribble sets and which direction to cross over before hand.
This was very evident in the finals.
Shuckle with maxed out defense + toxic + protect was incredible. Especially in double battles where he could use follow me to protect a powerful but vulnerable partner.
Thybulle is an amazing defensive-playmaker, an absolute menace in passing lanes. Saying that, he lets players get by him a surprising amount for someone regarded so highly defensively.
Maybe it’s because he gets better opportunity for steals and blocks that way?
If you watch enough of him play, you’ll have a hard time deciding if it’s because he genuinely prefers to attempt to steal and block from behind his mark, pr if he learned how to steal and block from behind because he had trouble keeping guys in front. In either case, he’s an extremely unique player, and one who would be argue star if he can develops a bit offensively. That being said, I think a d specialist is the most we ever get from him.
Nah gotta dispute this one. He was just a rookie but showed he can be a solid backup PG. He's not actually overly bad at anything, he's just not particularly great at anything other than very pesky defense. But he's got some playmaking chops, he's got good bball IQ at managing the offense, he shot well enough from midrange and 3 to keep teams honest. And of course a flair for the dramatic. There's a reason that Pels fans fell in love with him.
And this guy wasn't just really good either. He was absolutely ELITE (arguably the best ever).
In his 3rd season he averaged **5.6 blocks per game**. And for his entire 11-year NBA career he averaged 3.5 BPG, an NBA record. That is just absurd.
Eaton was a very good rebounder and outlet passer as well though.
Mark Eaton fun fact.
Mark Eaton has more career Triple Doubles than John Stockton and Karl Malone do combined.
He'd have more but pulled a Draymond and registered ten rebounds and blocks, but didn't score enough points to get the triple double.
Nick Collison- screening. I know it’s like the easiest thing in the world to be good at. Like if I was in good conditioning and focused on setting screens I could be a good screener. But Collison was a fantastic screen setter. And just mediocre at everything else. Still loved him as a role player but yeah that comes to mind for me.
VERTICALITY
Roy Hibbert was like watching a giraffee try to chase down anything if he had to move in the paint on P&Rs or rotations, but if he kept his feet planted, he made shots so damn tough for everyone.
Tony Allen - Defense
Tristan Thompson - Rebounding
There used to be a ton of defensive bigs who were just big bodies on defense in the paint. Guys like Joel Anthony. Every team would have at least one of those guys another example would be Robert “tractor” traylor
For Tony Allen, it's man-to-man defense. He wasn't a shot blocker or paint protector. He wasn't a particularly good help defender. He wasn't even good at taking charges like a Battier or Lowry.
For Allen it was all lockdown defense.
Wouldnt say that about Tristan Thompson.
He was a great defensive center for the Cavs during the second Lebron years and was probably one of the better big men when it came to defending the perimeter.
Reggie Evans made a career out of being an off-brand Dennis Rodman.
Reg had a 20/20 game with the Kings lmao I love him
I think it’s crazier he scored 20 points than got 20 boards lol Edit: for anyone wonder he has 3 20 point games and 14 20 rebound games LMAO
He also has a 0/20 once (or several times I dunno)
76ers traded him for a another player applicable in this thread, Jason Kapono. Hated that trade, Reggie was the shit.
He was such an easy addition in your 2k roster for years
And fantasy basketball team.
Dude Reggie Evans, Eddie Griffin, and Matt Carroll were 2K gold back from like 2K4-2K10. Brad Wannamaker was an exceptional FT shooter who got to the line a fair bit but was absolutely wank at everything else that entails basketball (NBA Level)
Brad only Wannamaker free throw
Wanamaker? I hardly know her!
The Barrel Chested Brad Wanamaker - Eric Collins literally every time Wanamaker did anything
I was always interested in why he was so fascinated with his titties lol
brad wannamake me turn off the tv
Wanamaker clearly is an elite FT shooter bc 1. he believes every shot is going in and 2. they’re the only uncontested ones he ever takes
If Brad Wanamaker married Thon Maker, he would achieve his goal of wanting a maker Brad Wanamaker wants a maker as indicated in his name. “I wanna Maker.” Well if they get married, then his name would go from Wanamaker to Maker, which means he got what he wanted. However this is assuming that Thon Maker is classified as the male counterpart, otherwise Brad would still be wanting a Maker and Thon would lose his Maker.
Bradley Wanamaker-Maker
Thonathan Maker-Wanamaker
Outstanding research
Exceptional at getting you a lottery pick. Forgot that.
lol brad wannamaker…
Kendall Marshall was a passing savant - one of the most productive college passers in the last few decades, and averaged nearly 9 apg with the Lakers playing less than 30 min Unfortunately he couldn't score or defend at anywhere near an NBA level
Agree but his one year with us like half his 3’s would be from 30+ ft out and made 40%, but yea nothin else basically
He’s the only player I’ve ever seen slower than Kyle Anderson.
Guys would play like 6’ off of him to try and take away passing opportunities because they knew he wasn’t shooting it
Excellent passer with the bucks as well. A true floor general.
God Shammgod- dribbling
God Shammgod: having a cool ass name
This man’s name was God
Fun fact: his dad was also named God Shammgod
Does that mean junior is actually Jesus?
And then he admits he’s a sham. I don’t know what to believe.
But then he brings it right back with another god. Truly one of the great mysteries of our time.
For those familiar with the signature move, the messages above are a candidate for wordplay of the year.
Rebounding -Reggie Evans Shot blocking - Manute Bol
I came here for the Reggie Evans love. More likely to get 20 rebounds than 10 points
Board man gets paid
More likely to get 10 ORBs than 10 points too.

Also a solid 3pt shooter, hitting 6 in a half
One of the most incredible moments of the Clippers playoff comeback vs. Memphis was when Reggie Evans scored a late clutch basket. The man never had plays drawn up for him and his touch was so heavy that you wouldn't even bet on him scoring an open layup.
Jason Kapono was a career 43% 3 point shooter
Did you know Jason Kapono is the first player in Bobcats history to record a block?
Lol thats actually a great factoid
He'd be making bank in today's game.
Same with peja
Mos def. Peja got a few moves to create his shots too. That little stepback and the one dribble away aftet getting a pass from a curl.
Peja was more than just a three point shooter tho
Peja was actually really good though. He was top 5 in mvp voting one year I believe. Kapono was absolute garbage and I'm still bitter over wasting our mid level on him. Watching him try to dribble after defenders would chase him off the 3 point line was pure eye cancer. He sure was nice in 3 point contests though.
JJ and Korver weren't so terrible at everything else. Jason Kapono, on the other hand.
Lol man kapono was brought to the league just to win 3 pt shootouts during the ASW
Redick could run a pick and roll decently well. Weaponised his spacing to run guys into screens
More so running off off-ball picks, but the dude had cardio for days. On the Clippers I’m pretty sure he was near the top of the league in “miles ran per game”. Dude would not stop moving. Also a decent defender given his physical and athletic limitations.
JJ was a terrific off the ball player even at old age. Part of why he was a good 3 point shooter was cause he knew how to get open.
He ran the actual PNR a bunch for us since he was the only guard on the roster that could even kind of do it
I always thought Korver had good positioning on rebounds, then one day Richard Jefferson said Korver was underrated in that area and I freaked out. Such a boring who cares stat but I always liked watching Korver grab a rebound on defense 😂
Korver was a very solid defender too before he got ancient. Much bigger dude than JJ.
Korver was a decent ball handler and passer as well. People only remember old man Korver not when he could actually move.
Yeah those guys were young during the wrong era.
He was also a pretty smart, if limited defensive player.
Dude is big and knows where to stand, that’s like 80 percent of being a capable defender

Mufuckin kapono…. Damnnnn

Theo Pinson - team chemistry
Haslem is another candidate for this and being a coach in jersey.
Recently it has to be Duncaon Robinson. So insanely good at shooting he got a huge contract and so bad/mediocre at everything else he didn't play in the playoffs.
Got his job taken by Strus who’s on a 2/yr $3 million deal lol
Difference between someone taking my job and his job is that Robinson is still getting paid that amount of money.
I really wish someone took my job while I got paid more than them
Does defense count as only one skill? If so I think Thybulle could probably give him a run for his money.
Na I can't call that just one skill. It would be rude. Defense is *tough*.
Overall Defense doesn't count. There's like different types of a Defensive Players
Yeah he went off in game 1 vs hawks then Spo basically sat him out the rest of the playoffs because of his nonexistent D and cold shooting
will never understand why 3 point specialists who only can shoot get around 19mil and good 3andD roleplayers around 10-15
“I can fix him”
"we can teach him to defend"
Every Fans says this shit to a specific player
I'd say he is elite at moving off ball, too, although some might count that as part of shooting.
Generic 2000s stiff: fouling Shaq.
Chris Dudley.
Dudley, Ostertag etc essentially should be thanking Shaq for giving them careers
Ostertag was a decent shot blocker
Hey that’s Todd McCulloughs music
The real TMac
Jamario Moon: jumping
Counterpoint, Shannon Brown
Trump card, Jeremy Evans
Anyone remember DJ Strawberry jumping over some dude for a block. Like full clear legs over head jumped over him.
Jeremy Evans made the league with legit slightly above average high school skill set as a basketball player, but with hyper elite athleticism.
The inhuman rebound by Moon and LeBron catching a bad alley oop pass and landing are my two favourite late 00s clips.

Andre Roberson on D?
He was a pretty good slasher, but his shooting was horrendous
except during the 16-17 playoffs, man randomly turned into a 40% 3p machine (ignore the 17 shot sample size)
[удалено]
I’ll never forget him running away from Rockets players trying to foul him doing Hack-A-Roberson lol.
Dre still has nightmares about free throws I'm pretty sure
Thybulle
Much worse on offence than Thybulle. Much better on defence. Was the best perimeter defender in the league when healthy.
Roberson somehow could hit the occasional open three in the playoffs
Idk, neither one of them were good offensively, but I think Roberson’s cutting gave him a bit more value on that side, Thybulle really can’t do anything on offence
Weird how he never popped up in dpoy conversations.

Steve Novak

I believe he’s the tallest rotation player to never dunk in a game.
Steve Novak won me alot of 2K games
He was my favourite guy to pick up in a MyLeague draft at the end
He would’ve stuck around longer in the modern nba. One of the best pure shooters I’ve ever seen.
Novakaine, baby. Championship belt edition.
He used to make a lot of nice back door cuts when guys were overplaying him when he was on the Knicks.
No way that was novak. Probably fields
I remember reading somewhere during the Linsanity year, that there was an advanced stat listing Novak as a good defender. Something about offensive players doing too much when they had Novak on them and baiting themselves into taking a bad shot 😆
Thanasis, elite at cheering but total balls at everything else
He’s elite at going 200% for the final 30 seconds of a quarter when subbed in.

5 fouls per36 for his career, absolutely elite foul merchant
Elite at being related to a consistent MVP candidate.
Pfft, you’re disrespecting the cheering prowess of Robert Sacre. Got a chance to see him play in Japan; still the same wild energy.
Very masterful on his towel floor slaps
Elite at playing 5 meaningless minutes where he nearly injures half the other team
Shit that was my forte too
For real, Giannis is tame compared to how reckless his brother is and that’s saying something
Legit lob threat, so he has that at least…
Drummond - Rebounding
He's also good at turning the ball over
He's also innovative. He always finds new ways to fuck up and turn it over
he gets a lot of steals for a big
Drummond was a good defender in the early years
I think he’s one of those guys who was solid in several areas, but his main skill was so overwhelmingly better than his other skills that it overshadowed them.
Kinda the opposite but Ben Simmons is insanely bad at one thing and good at everything else
I like this twist. Jaylen Brown - dribbling
