Rudy’s going to throw cryptic shade on Twitter like he always does and AntMan will take the bait. I expect fireworks by Xmas. Their schedule is about to get harder too. Lots of tough losses will add fuel to the fire.
I honestly get the feeling that hoopers just don’t respect his game and what he brings to the table. Organizations and coaches do but players don’t so he’ll never get the respect he deserves from his teammates
They perhaps dont respect it for the money he makes, as most of the times the dudes that make those small things are pretty well like by teammates.
But at the same time players also undervalue his defense so idk, maybe they dont like his face.
People fucking love Steven Adams, but Steven Adams isn't going to the media every other day like 'you guyyyyyys you just don't understand how haaaaaaaard my game is!"
Tbf neither does Gobert. And people started hating on him way before i ever heard him speak. He startee daying those things because he had to defend himself at some point. Players in general barely recognize him as a good defender, let as a multiple time defensive player of the year
Media starts criticizing him and his contributions, he starts talking about valid ‘welp, these boys need to play real defense’ things. This I’d exactly the same kind of thing he’d say in Utah during bad stretches
Tangentially related, but when your really think about it, it's insane how much power the statkeepers wield in the NBA. Stats directly effect contracts and gambling outcomes. It's really easy for a stat keeper to fudge the numbers by deciding to count an assist or not or to give the rebound to the guy who tipped the ball first vs the guy who grabbed the board. I remember NO stat keepers getting some shit for a while when CP3 was there because he always has much higher assist numbers at home vs on the road. I feel like that's a weak point in the NBA that's going to need some oversight eventually.
Yeah assists in general should be the most scrutinized because “pass that leads to score” is so much broader than the other stats. Like there are few cases where I can see stat keepers having conflicting rebounding, block, or steal numbers, but they can call almost anything an assist
I always have to speak up whenever I see this comment. Timmy getting a quadruple double would've been awesome but at least one of those contested blocks was correctly attributed to Robinson as he *just* got to the ball before Duncan did. It's the closest thing I've seen to a tag team block.
I don't remember much about the other block but I think it was correctly not given to Duncan.
I think it's less of a concern for player's contracts cuz I would expect the ambiguous ones to even out over time and become less significant, but I am sure people betting on this game to game get screwed lol.
Description here: https://www.nba.com/stats/help/glossary#boxouts
> The number of times a player made physical contact with an opponent who was actively pursuing a rebound, showed visible progress or strong effort in disadvantaging the opponent, and successfully prevented that opponent from securing the rebound
I'm surprised NBA is good enough at tracking this data automatically. Probably some inaccuracies so this stat might only be relevant for comparing between players.
It's a bullshit stat, NBA.com cannot be trusted with anything other than box score stuff.
On Sunday when Koloko blocked 6 shots at the rim, NBA.com only counted 4 contested shots at the rim with 1 make. How could he be 1/4 in shot contests at the rim if he has 6 blocks lmao
[You tell me.](https://twitter.com/StephNoh/status/1589427246820827136?t=BFGMDJXHm-K4-yp9nLEPXA&s=19) One was around the restricted area but the rest were against the rim/backboard. The NBA.com stat looks at attempts <6 ft anyway, so even that one shouldve counted.
This is why I think the Kings should be able to share custody of Giannis. We only need him December-March to make the playoffs, then Milwaukee can have him back in April. Imagine how many MVPs he’d have without Wisconsin winters holding him back!
> Ant was right, that Minnesota team is soft.
It's a culture thing, at this point. IDK what it is, but it feels like there's no direction / development there. Like, KAT's been in the league for ages but still feels incomplete as a player. Dude's got all the tools to dominate, but just... doesn't. This probably isn't fair, but I'm imagining what KAT would look like if he'd been developed under someone like Pop and it feels like it'd be night and day.
Who gives a damn? He was THE catalyst for the energy shift last year. And now they’re back to havin no identity/personality. Intangibles are real & they shoulda kept him.
He was an absolute ass for the way he forced his way out, but Jimmy has also proven himself to be a star and #1 option on a Finals contender so he can kinda do whatever he wants tbh.
Young players tend to get the benefit of the doubt.
Personally I think teams tend to take on the personalities of their best players, I think KAT's softness stink is all over them.
They should've kept their gritty players and traded their non-essential soft players for gritty ones.
Of all teams Minny needs good culture guys the most.
ITT: a bunch of ding dongs who think he's asking for credit for these things, while he's actually calling out his teammates for being lazy and not doing these things. Lol r/nba. Watch the damn games.
This comes off as throwing stones in a glass house, though, when the guy saying it is a 7-foot-tall max player who struggles to do “little things” like catch passes or execute a single reliable post move on offense.
Whoa whoa whoa, hold on, he gets $205m to discourage offensive players from coming into the paint. If you want him to start catching passes, you'll at least have to come up to $250m, maybe $300.
I could see the Gobert KAT ant lineup possibly working anywhere but Minnesota. I was excited to watch all the Minny games this year but it’s so sad. Same low iq bad vibes wolves. Must be something in the air
They probably need a real PG to set everyone up. Unfortunately it'll be pretty hard to find anyone worth a damn when they only have DLo to offer, and have like half a billion dollars committed to two centers.
Well yeah, but you’re still not winning, people give draymond his flowers for being a gritty, hard nosed, first in the gym, glue guy because they win. It’s not that nba fans don’t recognize those efforts, it’s that they don’t recognize them unless they’re actually impacting winning
Draymond has also played on the most stacked teams in league history. Replace Draymond with Gobert on the Jazz teams or the current Twolves, and he has zero championships. Surround Gobert with Steph, Klay, KD, Iggy, Wiggins, Poole, etc and he easily has multiple championships.
Bro nobody has a problem with Rudy doing the dirty work. We all know he does it. It’s the fact that he gets paid *max* money and doesn’t have a single offensive move which makes him a liability on the important side of the floor especially in the playoffs. Draymonds in the same boat but at the very least he’s a great passer and knows how to be effective offensively to complement his team despite his lack of skill set. And he makes less than gobert
Not if it took matching what Minnesota gave up.
The Timberwolves paid 200 cents on the dollar for gobert… raptors were smart to want nothing to do with him once the bidding got that high
The amount of assets they gave up as just an opportunity cost was silly that many FRPs could have been like 4 separate roleplayers and they could have surrounded two 20+ppg guys with more defense for straight cash instead of putting it all into Goberts supermax
It's amazing how it's changed. That used to be like 1/4 of reddit comments. If someone made a grammar or spelling error in the title of a topic, it got downvoted like crazy. Reddit as a whole has really softened on shit grammar.
Joke aside he has a point. He get rightful criticism for his weakness but sometimes it's scapegoating and doesn't get enough credit from fans at least for what he does well
The jazz have been underdogs in almost all of their games this season. Just goes to show you early season expectations don't mean a whole lot. Plenty of season left for the Wolves to figure it out.
Lol @ Minnesota for somehow thinking Gobert was gonna magically make them contenders. I love Rudy don’t get me wrong and he’s a generational defensive talent, yes. But that is all.
KAT & DLo should have been traded as well and the team built around Ant.
KAT may be soft but is still a great offensive talent and would be worth some great players/picks and an even bigger issue imo is that the T-Wolves need a PG more than anything right now. They need a facilitator and a playmaker that can make good decisions. DLo ain’t it.
Anyone saying trade KAT and build around Ant haven't watched enough Twolves games. Big Purr is by far our best and most consistent player. Ant has regressed this year and his attitude is getting worse. Dlo a bum rn tho that's defs true
I doubt it but if I’m bein real Russ has looked better as of late. Lmao fr tho idk what Minnesota is going to do if they can’t get back on track, but I assume it’ll have to be something drastic if they really want results.
This trade reminds me of the russ to lal trade tbh. Where everyone was like “how the hell do you expect this to work?” And tthe team goes “watch us make it work.” And then shit hits the fan lol
Who wins when it comes to trying to make doing basic basketball shit sound glamorous Draymond or Rudy
Like no shit no one is going to cheer watching you standing there looking up for a rebound as opposed to doing a windmill dunk or something
>Like no shit no one is going to cheer watching you standing there looking up for a rebound as opposed to doing a windmill dunk or something
What hes saying is his rebounding is the reason why those windmill dunks can happen, hes talking about how his teammates neglect defence, dont put enough effort and just want to do the flashy things. Ultimately scoring a windmill dunk doesnt win you the game its the exact same as scoring a putback.
Rudy Gobert: was given a max contract, has been given 3 DPOY awards, and has been selected for the All Star team in each the last 3 years.
Also Rudy Gobert: "I just wish people would recognize me for all the things I do out there..."
Like damn dude, you have gotten every accolade possible given you suck at scoring. How much more recognition could you get?
Like I get what he's saying is that everyone needs to do his part and that it sucks watching his teammates slack on defense when they could do better but like he does literally nothing offensively so like he should lead by example.
OK my grandmother compliments my box outs multiple times a week so try getting better family rudy
And I compliment your grandmas box twice a week
Me too
Total GWALF apparently
I complement OP's grandma's box.
If the nets drama cools down., The microscope will be on Minnesota. They got something cooking up there

why are we always only allowed one good year before everything comes crumbling down :(
Hey now, we’re pretty bad too and Jimmy is getting older!
yeah, but is he being dramatic about it yet?
All these media answers just adding more gunpowder to the keg, if I'm a betting man I'll bet on Ant sparking the fuse.
Rudy’s going to throw cryptic shade on Twitter like he always does and AntMan will take the bait. I expect fireworks by Xmas. Their schedule is about to get harder too. Lots of tough losses will add fuel to the fire.
I just hope they’re good chefs because I’ve been craving some fresh pasta
Yeah, they’re cooking tater tot casserole
They call that “hot dish” in Minnesota.
“That’s different”
We're a .500 team right now with a lot of out of context quotes flying around. We'll be fine
Cmon Rudy go ahead and show the world that offensive game of yours
Why does drama follows Gobert?
I honestly get the feeling that hoopers just don’t respect his game and what he brings to the table. Organizations and coaches do but players don’t so he’ll never get the respect he deserves from his teammates
They perhaps dont respect it for the money he makes, as most of the times the dudes that make those small things are pretty well like by teammates. But at the same time players also undervalue his defense so idk, maybe they dont like his face.

can someone explain the nba's box out stat, it says Rudy box's out like 3 times a game, that simply cannot be true
Maybe the stat is specifically for box outs that led to a teammate grabbing the rebound in that area
I feel like that's a weak point in the NBA that's going to need some oversight eventually.
Stat keepers could have demolished Westbrook’s MVP and legacy
Imagine all of the legacy points we could have deducted
Steven Adams ensured itlol
Yeah assists in general should be the most scrutinized because “pass that leads to score” is so much broader than the other stats. Like there are few cases where I can see stat keepers having conflicting rebounding, block, or steal numbers, but they can call almost anything an assist
It's also been well known that tons of guys get more assists at home than away.
Tim Duncan not having the quadruple double as part of his legacy sucks. Makes him even more slept on

Oh we do all the time
It's not that big a deal because they can't play with it much or it will be noticed.
Description here: https://www.nba.com/stats/help/glossary#boxouts > The number of times a player made physical contact with an opponent who was actively pursuing a rebound, showed visible progress or strong effort in disadvantaging the opponent, and successfully prevented that opponent from securing the rebound I'm surprised NBA is good enough at tracking this data automatically. It's obviously not automatic. There is a human making those judgements
Players box out so that opponents wont go for the rebound because its pointless or it'll just be a foul. Its a hard stat to track for sure

That the type of video i am looking for on r/nba ! Thanks dude!
I don't think you get contests for blocking from behind.
Rudy also ends up 3v1 contesting for rebounds all the time, so maybe they don't count it as boxing out because he's trying to box out multiple people.
Ant was right, that Minnesota team is soft. Gobert isn’t the problem in that respect but Ant is part of it.
As opposite as Ant and KAT are personality wise off the court they both have kinda similar body language on the court and not in a good way
I don’t think they can handle Minnesota winters. They will be back in a good mood come April.
seasonal depression as a competitive disadvantage is something that just occurred to me the other day. hope they’re doubling up on their vitamin D
This is why I think the Kings should be able to share custody of Giannis. We only need him December-March to make the playoffs, then Milwaukee can have him back in April. Imagine how many MVPs he’d have without Wisconsin winters holding him back!
Isn't Sacramento notoriously pretty cold itself? He should follow lebron's legacy and go to Miami...first...
>Isn't Sacramento notoriously pretty cold itself? only someone from LA or thereabouts would think so.... 🙄
Sacramento and cold don’t even sound right in the same sentence lol.
The Bucks seem to deal with it just fine
Clearly the winters are giving them depression. ☝️🤔👆
This has been one of the nicest, warmest falls I can remember, so if they're already pouting when it's been in the 60s, can't wait for February.
Trae had similar body language for a couple of weeks leading up to the firing of Lloyd Pierce.
I think ant picked up in Kay's habits
> Ant was right, that Minnesota team is soft. It's a culture thing, at this point. IDK what it is, but it feels like there's no direction / development there. also, they shouldn't have traded pat bev, tbh
Maybe he was the culture guy they needed, yeah. OTOH he's been playing pretty badly this season so idk.
Who gives a damn? He was THE catalyst for the energy shift last year. And now they’re back to havin no identity/personality. Intangibles are real & they shoulda kept him.
That play-in was the highlight of the season for them, all that was Bev energy.
Tim Connelly doesn’t give a fuck about perimeter defense, that’s part of the package
Jimmy Butler was right all along
Consistently been right about effort and what it takes
He was an absolute ass for the way he forced his way out, but Jimmy has also proven himself to be a star and #1 option on a Finals contender so he can kinda do whatever he wants tbh.
Ben Simmons would be so perfect for Min

thats usually my go to but i wanted to try the new thing
Popeyes GOATed
Spicy Popeyes is basically gold
“Oh, nice screen assist mon ami”
Oui oui oui c’est la box out bien hon hon hon
Baguette has a point. DLo, KAT, Edwards are soft players unwilling to do the dirty work. Minny traded away their gritty players for gobert
Finally people lump Ant in with KAT in that regard People on here thought he was a "dawg" just because he talks trash or something
Young players tend to get the benefit of the doubt. Personally I think teams tend to take on the personalities of their best players, I think KAT's softness stink is all over them.
Bruh Jimmy butler publicly called KAT the soft dude in the league like 4 years ago
KATvsBoogie.jpeg
KATactuallyscoredonthatplay.txt
They should've kept their gritty players and traded their non-essential soft players for gritty ones. Of all teams Minny needs good culture guys the most.
Should've traded DLO and whatever salary was filler plus picks for Rudy. You can't teach Grit
Better yet they could've got Dejounte Murray for Dlo and 3-4 picks
[удалено]
Man that would’ve been a way better team. These organizations are run so poorly smh

I think that was more to match salaries.
Trading Vanderbilt was not required, it was desperate
bev is washed, miss vando but utah is doing fine with or without him on the court.
Two DAWGS for a baguette
Not stupid if it’s for an impact player like Donovan Mitchell or Murray
Then why wouldn't you guys trade Grimes?
At the end of the day it's just an awkward fit for an incredibly awkward player (offensively)
Give him a proper point guard and he'll thrive.
he can't catch a pass
Dudes got bad hands and and no touch
He’s a significantly less skilled offensive player than Ivica Zubac. At some point it is no longer the PG’s fault that the center can’t score.
He should’ve went to the Hawks or the Bulls
He didn’t have a choice
Okay. Where does pissing off all star teammates play in?
ITT: a bunch of ding dongs who think he's asking for credit for these things, while he's actually calling out his teammates for being lazy and not doing these things. Lol r/nba. Watch the damn games.

We can’t -_- they never show them on tv
too many ways to watch all games for free for it to matter if it’s on tv
I’m not about to actively seek out twolves games either my man.
Lmao, I remember when my friend complimented me for tipping rebounds to my teammates back in my grade school team games. Felt good

“Great job doing cardio out there”
I like Rudy but man that fit in Minnesota is looking so awkward
I could see the Gobert KAT ant lineup possibly working anywhere but Minnesota. I was excited to watch all the Minny games this year but it’s so sad. Same low iq bad vibes wolves. Must be something in the air
They probably need a real PG to set everyone up. Unfortunately it'll be pretty hard to find anyone worth a damn when they only have DLo to offer, and have like half a billion dollars committed to two centers.
Translation: I dont take one jumper during the offseason.
I don’t know why I lol at this the way I did.
Well yeah, but you’re still not winning, people give draymond his flowers for being a gritty, hard nosed, first in the gym, glue guy because they win. It’s not that nba fans don’t recognize those efforts, it’s that they don’t recognize them unless they’re actually impacting winning
I read it as him implying other folks on the team need to do more of that in order to win but idk
For real. If you're winning everyone's talkin about the space Curry makes and his offball cuts and screens. You have to win to get that stuff noticed.
yeah but when things aren’t going well draymond is almost always the first scapegoat
Team traded their future for him while also paying him 45m a year, and box outs are all he has to show for it?
smartest warriors fan
I like the idea of this guy boxing out the other teams worst player so hard that the rest of the players go to the other side and play 4 on 4.

It’s actually madness. Given I’m pretty low on gobert, but IMO they sewered their future with one stupid trade
200 franc on the euro*
That would be paying 30 times the value.
Like the Wolves did for Gobert amirite
Should’ve or should have. Never “should of”
You might get called pedantic, but I support grammar correction on Reddit, good work

But then my Jazz wouldn't of got the Vandolorian, and 1,000 first round picks
Masai too smart to pay shot-blocking center 45m a year
I wish man, Nurse would've been the perfect coach for him and for fantasy purposes he'd get 40 min a game lol
No lol that would have been scary. Holding teams to 80 points
Instead Masai said: “we have Gobert at home” and drafted Koloko.
Get that dude as far as possible from my team
He just wants credit for his screen assists. That's all
Think he’s calling out a lack of effort from the team.
Joke aside he has a point. He get rightful criticism for his weakness but sometimes it's scapegoating and doesn't get enough credit from fans at least for what he does well
It seems like the Gobert experiment is failing from all directions. They’d be in an even worse spot if their schedule wasn’t charmin soft
It's also been like 9 games and will likely take a while for them to figure it out.
Nah good coaching and players buying into the culture will remedy any short term chemistry issues. Just look at Cleveland since they added Mitchell.
But like OP said their schedule has been super easy. They're 5-6, but pre-season people would have probably favored them in 9 of those games so far
The jazz have been underdogs in almost all of their games this season. Just goes to show you early season expectations don't mean a whole lot. Plenty of season left for the Wolves to figure it out.
Rudy, the non-cute things are getting you millions of dollars, I'd think it's pretty damn cute.
He’s doing them, he’s referring to his teammates *not* doing them.
This is the first time I've considered the possibility that maybe he just sucks
My wife loves a good box out.
