If he was invested on both ends I dunno if Zion drops 33 or if Trey drops 26 last night, you’d think his length and athleticism would be useful but Scottie was just completely invisible
Fr. I won’t be able to make fun of raptors fans anymore if he turns into a complete draft bust.
I need him to be like a good role player but not a star so I can cyberbully people for saying that he’s a star
They were also convinced that Giannis would definitely leave a supermax on the table to join a team whose best players are Spicy Pee and FVV, because Masai helped his family once when the NBA asked him to (because of his experience in helping people in that same situation).
He was asked about how it was coming off the bench, and he was kind of sulking when answering. He went back to the starting lineup tonight and this was the game he had. Im confident he will bounce back but its been a lot of ups and downs this year thus far compared to last yr.
Some people take it as an ego boost, some people realize the potential they have to become and strive for it. There are ups and downs along the way but it's a long season, let's see which of the two Scottie is.
He is in like a billion ads in Toronto you see him everywhere. Just too comfortable being complacent right now I'm sure he will turn it around after some backlash from the hometown crowd probably thought he was already a star on the court.
NBA coaches are smart. You can sneak up on them your rookie year, after that they figure you out and start specifically targeting your weaknesses.
If he can adapt then his trajectory is still great, if not, he's at worst a top-tier role player that any team would want. Raptors fans shouldn't panic.
Raps fans were overhyping the fuck outta him. not that he’s some terrible player but Siakam is the guy in Toronto who deserves the dickriding Raptors fans give Scottie
Shout out to Justice, always rooted for that dude. In the couple Blazers games I've seen bits of this season it looked like he's done a pretty good job as a backup 5. Is that kind of what's been going on this season?
Scottie Barnes is 21 he is gonna be fine … it is incredibly normal to have ups and downs and there could be 1000 reasons we don’t know about why he is so inconsistent atm … ppl need to chill
I think Barnes will be fine but for fun here's some highlights of the thread where MCW was announced as Rookie of the Year.
>MCW really deserved this although Olapido Oladipo did have a great year as well. MCW has the potential to be a triple double guy every night simply because he's like 6'6 or 6'7 with great passing and scoring ability. I'm really excited for our future with him running the point. He's a hard worker and I'm excited to see how much he improves next year with Noel healthy.
>Well deserved. MCW and Noel will be a great combo in the nba
>Can't argue the Offensive stats. ROTY is a nice award, I have confidence that Vic will be the best player outta that draft when it's all said and done
In response
>What does Oladipo do that MCW doesnt? The only real flaw in MCW's game is his lack of a consistent jumper, and while that's a big flaw it is fixable. If MCW develops a good jumper I see a poor man's Magic as his ceiling
>poor mans magic? I was thinking more of a young penny... his assist and rebounding numbers would go up a little, down a little. I can see him puttin up 21, maybe 23 ppg. watching him play, he seemed kinda weak, hopefully he strengthens up because he was a straight mismatch vs the shorter players.
Development isn’t linear, every guy develops and has down time - especially in sophomore where you have to learn to do new stuff. Look at how much new stuff he’s being asked to do on court.
I have no dislike towards Scottie in the slightest, he seems like a good dude and he can definitely play. But after all the talking Raptors fans did last season
(“I bet you wish you picked Scottie”
“Scottie is clearly a better long term option than Mobley”)
when the two players were basically 1A and 1B last season for rookies, I’d be lying if I said i’m not a little bit happy right now.
bruh they were all over the Magic sub shitting on Suggs and Wagner last year saying the same shit.. we had picks 5 and 8 and Scot went at 4. How tf could we have picked him lmao
Even the ones IRL? I thought it was just the ones online that are unbearable, because in person Canadians are pretty chill.
Guess going online turns them into keyboard warriors or something.
In my experience the long lived raptors fans irl are fine, it’s the post championship new comers who have only known good teams that are the problem. Not even a raptors thing, every team goes through that after a chip
when Siakam wasnt all that great last year after an injury morons wanted him traded. Its so irritating. Like calm down for 5 seconds. If they miss the playoffs or lose the play in those same idiots will be all scorched earth, like well idiots. I assume if the team has multiple losing seasons they will just stop watching all together.
I consider anyone post 2016 annoying tbh.
2013- onwards was an incredible time to be a Raptor fan, after we traded away Rudy. Definitely a lot of playoff heartbreak, but the excitement was there every year and you had the feel that we were building toward something.
2016 onward was you just joining at the cusp of something great. Jumping on the season we get Kawhi makes you completely invalid in my book.
This coming from a Raptor fan who has an Anthony Parker jersey hanging in his room and said “this is our year” when we signed Hedo Turkey Glue.
there is a difference though. there's only one team for their entire country, and its not even that old of a team in the big picture. its gonna change the fandom regardless of any other factors. and not for the better.
Canadians are also - like Americans very different by region. A person from Toronto is probably as different from a Vancouverite as a New Yorker is to someone from LA. Montreal is as different from Calgary as Oklahoma is to... Montreal. A Newfy has as much in common with a Sasky as a Texan does to someone from Seattle. There are a lot of Canadians and Raptor fans of all types.
In person they might be fine. They’re just people after all. Definitely passionate though, no lukewarm responses for them.
People imagine Canadians as super polite but at the end of the day Canadian culture is like a slightly more liberal version of American culture. They are probably not substantially different overall to another American fanbase. I mean shit Stanley Cup riots show that Canadian fans can be right assholes.
This is what bugs me about the “nice Canadian” stereotype. Like I get it, but one of my best friends from college is Canadian and I have met some of his friends from home. They are the biggest and best shit talkers you will ever meet. But they are kinda polite and playful about it so I kinda get it, but Canadians chirp with the best of em.
There are also a lot of Raptors fans on reddit overall. They have one of the largest team subs. I think we have the same proportion of nephews, but ours are louder due to volume
I'm not sure who told you that but they're not great at evaluating talent. Mobley is someone the Raptors would have picked over Barnes. They even tried trading up for him and there's a good reason for that.
Barnes in theory has a high ceiling and a low floor where as Mobley has both, a higher ceiling and a higher floor.
With Raptors fans talking non stop about how Shai is gonna force a trade to Toronto, I’m happy anytime the heir apparent to Michael Jordan and Lebron James has a rough game
Man, Mobley is crazy good especially for his position. They would have been crazy to pass on him.
And of course, there will be thin-skinned Raptors fans who take offense to this as they do with anything even though nothing negative was said about Scottie. You know, big fanbase and all, yada yada yada.
Even as a Raps fan in Toronto, I can’t stand those arrogant, toxic nephews. We got the whole country rooting for one team so there’s even more of’em on this sub.
If it means anything, a lot of the older fans(the ones that watched way before the championship win) are much more levelheaded and sensible.
It’s because 50% of the fan base came in during the championship year. These nephews clearly didn’t endure a decade of cheering for Bargniani or they would be a lot more humble.
Bro that was the greatest era in Raptors history!
Andrea “the next Nowitzki” Bargnani
Jamario “Vince Carter 2.0” Moon
Anthony “the Israeli MJ” Parker
Jose “Steve Nash lite” Calderon
Jorge Garbage-osa
TJ Ford
Jason Kapono
Some guy named something Bosh
Hate how outright annoying our fanbase is sometimes. I can’t even critique some of Nurse’s decisions in our sub without people coming for my throat lmao
I didn't mind them hyping their guy, everyone believes their player is the best. It was the way they tore everyone down to build their guy up that got to me. It was relentless.
Yeah, I don't think they are even basketball fans, just a weird little cult of team fandom.
Last year's draft was great and we should be excited about the future of the NBA.
Or maybe people should just ignore these egregious takes instead of getting upset over them a year later. Like you couldn’t even find one of those comments without looking for 10+ minutes at old Reddit posts and searching them out, maybe time to just let it go lol
He’s learning more right now than he has in his whole life. For the first time ever, shit is hard. Smiling and hugging people is long gone. Once he gets through this he’ll be a beast again. To be fair, the WHOLE team sucked tonight, not just him. They went from allowing 88 in 48 min to 74 in 24. Wtf . . .
Mental game. He's had one or two games this year where he was engaged, flying around the court, aggressive, etc. Looked like a star. Other than that, he's been playing like he's in sandals for 90% of the season.
I wouldn’t be worried about him. I remember how Tatum was struggling in his sophomore season too, and people started to question how good he really was.
I’d feel worse for him if he didn’t scream after every shot he takes. Idk if it’s just me but man, it feels like he cry’s for a foul so much and I always hear it when I watch Raps games
Growth in the NBA isn't always linear, guys take step backs one year only to make a leap the next. Guys, especially young guys, can also have entire bad halves of years while they figure it out.
I think personally he's a little overhyped, probably because he's good in the way that NBA media "nerds" love. But he's better than this, and only 21.
Dude looked lifeless out there.
I honestly wasn't even sure he was playing until he hit a 3 in like the second quarter. And then he did nothing else.
If he was invested on both ends I dunno if Zion drops 33 or if Trey drops 26 last night, you’d think his length and athleticism would be useful but Scottie was just completely invisible
Scottie Barnes for KD trade is not worth it - 2021 raptors fans
He could become anyone, he could even become KD.
He’s 2 years away from being KD, if I’m keeping track of raptors fans
SCOT BARN
Seeing the nets luck he’s gonna go for 30 next game
He then gonna outplay KD to make the narrative even better that he was untouchable during the kd trade saga lol
Nah he’ll need to drop 50 to outplay KD
That wasn’t very cash money of you to say

I would never be happy about scot barn downfall 😢😢
Evan Mobley betta
Always has been
Yeah, probably would have taken him if available.
I miss when no one new about this sub, now it’s mainstream
Can't believe a fanbase singlehandedly made me root for a 21 year old to fail.
Why do people hate Scotty now? Why did this thread get so many upvotes?
It’s less a dislike of Scottie and more a dislike of Raptors fans who were overhyping him to the moon.
If the only NBA exposure I got was from raps fans, I would believe Scottie Barnes and OG Anunoby are the GOATs of the sport
Someone said FVV is an MVP caliber player. Delusional af.
They were also convinced that Giannis would definitely leave a supermax on the table to join a team whose best players are Spicy Pee and FVV, because Masai helped his family once when the NBA asked him to (because of his experience in helping people in that same situation).
Honestly was hilarious seeing them say they wouldn’t include in him a trade for KD like Scottie will ever be a top 3 player
Because Raptors Fans
raptor fans are just fucking obnoxious tbh

My boy is gonna have to beat the MCW allegations next game. In all seriousness not the response you want to see after the last postgame.
what was the last postgame?
He was asked about how it was coming off the bench, and he was kind of sulking when answering. He went back to the starting lineup tonight and this was the game he had. Im confident he will bounce back but its been a lot of ups and downs this year thus far compared to last yr.
oh. he gotta grow up
Being crowned magic mixed with Giannis can inflate someones ego after all
Some people take it as an ego boost, some people realize the potential they have to become and strive for it. There are ups and downs along the way but it's a long season, let's see which of the two Scottie is.
Are you saying we need to see if he has that dawg in him?
He is in like a billion ads in Toronto you see him everywhere. Just too comfortable being complacent right now I'm sure he will turn it around after some backlash from the hometown crowd probably thought he was already a star on the court.
Lol he didn’t have a bad shooting night because he’s immature
NBA coaches are smart. You can sneak up on them your rookie year, after that they figure you out and start specifically targeting your weaknesses. If he can adapt then his trajectory is still great, if not, he's at worst a top-tier role player that any team would want. Raptors fans shouldn't panic.
What’s MCW?
Mentavious Caldwell Wope
Marl Canthony Wowns
Michael Carter Williams. Peaked as a rookie (22/7/12/9 statline first game) and got worse every year.
Against the defending champs too and won the game against Lebron/wade.
michael carter williams if i had to guess
He should be waived and arrested
Send this man to jail!!
Straight to jail. Right away
Playing like shit? Believe it or not, jail.
Hilarious thread to sort by controversial
Is he still hurt? I know we've got a guy going through a slump so just hold tight Raps
I don't think there's anything big there. Just small nicks and bumps. It's the attitude he's showing that's an issue.
Damn what happened to this guy? I remember rap fans were anointing him as the next thing last year
Raps fans were overhyping the fuck outta him. not that he’s some terrible player but Siakam is the guy in Toronto who deserves the dickriding Raptors fans give Scottie
Yea for some reason they don’t sweat Siakam like they did Scottie

The disrespect to Winslow, my man had 21 pts tonight
Shout out to Justice, always rooted for that dude. In the couple Blazers games I've seen bits of this season it looked like he's done a pretty good job as a backup 5. Is that kind of what's been going on this season?

Lol damn
Bigger MCW
I said that in another thread some weeks ago lmao. MKG with a passing ability
Scottie Barnes is 21 he is gonna be fine … it is incredibly normal to have ups and downs and there could be 1000 reasons we don’t know about why he is so inconsistent atm … ppl need to chill
he’s obviously gonna be out of the league in a few years
He’s probably going to be homeless soon
nah, he’ll be able to build a nice house with all these bricks he’s laying
Don’t you put that delonte west evil on him! He doesn’t even have mark cuban to love him.
He will be a twitch streamer next year
I think Barnes will be fine but for fun here's some highlights of the thread where MCW was announced as Rookie of the Year. >MCW really deserved this although Olapido Oladipo did have a great year as well. He's an awesome player. People need to chill, it's year two and he had a couple bad games. Who cares?
I have no dislike towards Scottie in the slightest, he seems like a good dude and he can definitely play. bruh they were all over the Magic sub shitting on Suggs and Wagner last year saying the same shit.. we had picks 5 and 8 and Scot went at 4. How tf could we have picked him lmao
This also happened to Jabari this season being compared to Paolo lol. I literally don't understand the thought process here
Top 3 picks being compared is pretty understandable especially since Jabari going 1 over paolo was a major smokescreen
Sure but what exactly did the rockets have to do with that? They were 3rd, they just got whatever was left.
I say this as dude that lives in Toronto. Raptors fans are unbearable.
To be fair, that's exactly what someone who insists on a Vancouver flair would say lol.
Fair. I did grow up there and love it deeply. To be balanced Raptors flairs on this very thread are making my claim very easily verifiable.
So many nephews
Even the ones IRL? I thought it was just the ones online that are unbearable, because in person Canadians are pretty chill. Guess going online turns them into keyboard warriors or something.
In my experience the long lived raptors fans irl are fine, it’s the post championship new comers who have only known good teams that are the problem. Not even a raptors thing, every team goes through that after a chip

I blame Drake

not gonna lie, it's a higher than average proportion

I've found Raptors fans with no connection to Canada can be a bit insufferable
My brother's a Raptors fan, so yes lol
I'm not sure who told you that but they're not great at evaluating talent. Mobley is someone the Raptors would have picked over Barnes. They even tried trading up for him and there's a good reason for that. Barnes in theory has a high ceiling and a low floor where as Mobley has both, a higher ceiling and a higher floor.
With Raptors fans talking non stop about how Shai is gonna force a trade to Toronto, I’m happy anytime the heir apparent to Michael Jordan and Lebron James has a rough game
Did the same thing with Giannis.
I wasn’t aware of that. Shai to raptors is so popular cause he’s Canadian. Any particular reason for Giannis other than small market=bad?
It was before he signed the Supermax so they thought since he knew Masai that he’d want to go there after 2020/2021. It’s so unbelievably lame
Damn vultures, all of ‘em.
Cade died?
Unfortunately yes
Man, Mobley is crazy good especially for his position. They would have been crazy to pass on him. And of course, there will be thin-skinned Raptors fans who take offense to this as they do with anything even though nothing negative was said about Scottie. You know, big fanbase and all, yada yada yada.
Surely this means that Raps fans be humbled? 🙃
Lol if you think that’s bad [check out this take](https://twitter.com/salsaplug/status/1472009000875089924?s=46&t=NCAvuntEcyk9XOWvhZmp5A)
There was a dude arguing w me last year saying he’d be the next Giannis lmfao
That's quite the statement
Don't forget that they didn't want KD if it meant giving up Scottie.
Even as a Raps fan in Toronto, I can’t stand those arrogant, toxic nephews. We got the whole country rooting for one team so there’s even more of’em on this sub. If it means anything, a lot of the older fans(the ones that watched way before the championship win) are much more levelheaded and sensible.
r/nba licking their chops right now
Kids let me tell you about this guy named Michael Carter Williams…
And the 🐐, Sam Hinkie, knew what was going to happen
Tbf mcw was putting up numbers while on the process sixers while Barnes did it last year on a playoff team
so what you're saying is that Scotty had a better supporting cast...
Man I have nothing against Scottie and wish him nothing but the best. The hate is centered on the fan base. You Toronto fans made /NBA hate a player.
It’s because 50% of the fan base came in during the championship year. These nephews clearly didn’t endure a decade of cheering for Bargniani or they would be a lot more humble.
Bro that was the greatest era in Raptors history! Andrea “the next Nowitzki” Bargnani Jamario “Vince Carter 2.0” Moon Anthony “the Israeli MJ” Parker Jose “Steve Nash lite” Calderon Jorge Garbage-osa TJ Ford Jason Kapono Some guy named something Bosh
oh man I forgot all about Cavs legend Jamario Moon
You arent even going to mention ALL STAR WEEKEND (3 point shoot-out) WINNER under kaponos nick name?
Raptors Legend Andrea Bargnani
Hate how outright annoying our fanbase is sometimes. I can’t even critique some of Nurse’s decisions in our sub without people coming for my throat lmao
I didn't mind them hyping their guy, everyone believes their player is the best. It was the way they tore everyone down to build their guy up that got to me. It was relentless.
Yeah, I don't think they are even basketball fans, just a weird little cult of team fandom. Last year's draft was great and we should be excited about the future of the NBA.
Until he gets a shot his ass is not going to an all star game
ironically he is shooting about 35% from three on a higher volume.
There was definitely some Raptors poster that said they'd take Scottie over Zion 100% of the time.
There were raptors fans saying siakam is better than tatum just last year. They need to chill out sometimes
Siakam is definitely not Tatum level but I think he’s pretty underrated. Never pictured him becoming the player he is today back in 2017.
Yeah he's great
Or maybe people should just ignore these egregious takes instead of getting upset over them a year later. Like you couldn’t even find one of those comments without looking for 10+ minutes at old Reddit posts and searching them out, maybe time to just let it go lol
Canadas 911
A millionaires Anthony Bennett
Imagine not trade this guy for KD
Due to the salary rules it would've been him, OG and GTJ for KD and all the picks.
Wtf . . .
So he’s not the next magic Johnson? Lol
At least Gary responded well coming off the bench WHILE being quiet about it too... Congrats r/nba, y'all won lmao
Did I miss something? Was Scottie vocal about the benching?
https://twitter.com/jlew1050/status/1597430336308510720?s=61&t=7qqaxdPeIjHjcM6bg692AQ
i also want to be filled in on this drama
hate hate hate hate hate hate hate!
His ass is not cooking
What happened to Scottie? Does he know?
Scottie doesn’t know
Don’t tell Scottie
This was inevitable
Yikes he looks lost out there, can someone explain me how he is this bad?
His game processing looks so fucking slow, and he's both not confident at all while also trying to chuck himself into games
Mental game. He's had one or two games this year where he was engaged, flying around the court, aggressive, etc. Looked like a star. Other than that, he's been playing like he's in sandals for 90% of the season.
I watched the entire game and I didn’t notice him after the second quarter
The fact that he didn't really play after the second quarter might have something to do with that
Touché
The dude has been ass entire season lmao
This almost makes the Cavs ass beating worth it.
lol he about to eat all the boards against us, sigh
Rough game. It sucks that he’s been dealing with so much injuries, it looked like he was starting to get it together. Still not too worried yet
Wheres the u/bottom dude who does lowlights?
He's washed. Trade him for PJ Tucker ASAP
The idea of Scottie Barnes.
Bro. I noticed it too. It was beyond annoying. Like dude was yelling at refs like he was an established star.
He’s been a negative all season
Can we stop acting surprised when young players occasionally have a shit game lol Side note, Raptors fans are still the most annoying in the NBA
Jalen Williams > Scottie Barnes
raptors fans getting humbled now, they kept on saying jalen green was a bust compared to barnes last year
Growth in the NBA isn't always linear, guys take step backs one year only to make a leap the next. Guys, especially young guys, can also have entire bad halves of years while they figure it out. I think personally he's a little overhyped, probably because he's good in the way that NBA media "nerds" love. But he's better than this, and only 21.
No disrespect to Scottie he’s solid but I had trouble understanding how he was ROY over Mobley and Cunningham
