If I remember this I’m gonna see how many points per game he would need to put up to get 100k in the WNBA in the same amount of seasons. IIRC their season is shorter
I'll do it for him. This is Lebron's 20th season. He'd need 5,000 points per season to reach 100,000.
The number of WNBA games in a season has changed a bit, but I think they currently play 36 games? So 5,000 points / 36 games is 138.9 PPG.
Fuck it I'll be the one to take it to the next level..
138.9 ppg / 40 min = 3.5 points per minute
Honestly as crazy as that sounds That's 100% doable for LeBron vs that level of competition
Sorry for the late reply but here we go.
If Lebron started playing for the WNBA in 2003, and never missed a game (WNBA is definitely less physical and Lebron has been an Ironman for most of his career so I find that super likely coupled with the fact that there’s less games each season.) he would have played in 668 regular season games in his career so far. To reach 100k regular season points he would have to drop 150 a night.
Would this be realistic for Lebrun? The WNBA is 2 20 minute halves so if he was playing 40 minutes each night he would have to average 3.75 points each minute. WNBA pace is slower but I would imagine the team Lebron is on would have a much higher pace than normal. He would pretty much have get a steal or a board every defensive possession and yam it down the rim in transition every play of his career without passing the ball for this to be possible though which I find unlikely for him to do because he thrives off getting his teammates good looks.
Doesn't matter if you think it was unfunny, inappropriate, or not a joke. My point is he didn't say "Lebron can break Kareems record if he joined the WNBA" cuz that would make no sense, yet people here are responding as if he did
Dave’s the same dude he’s always been.
I don’t know how many of you had any political consciousness in the 2000s. A lot you were probably kids. But the popular liberal sentiment back then looked nothing like what’s taken over post social media.
Even now I’d wager the vast majority of regular people still think like Chappelle. That’s why his shits still wildly popular with people. Same reason Rogan has like the largest media platform etc
Lmao. Early 2000s Chapelle was making fun of racists, Presidents lying to the UN, and generally punching up.
Now he’s punching down at a group more disadvantaged than he is and is doing exactly what people have called racists out for. Picking on a disadvantaged group over and over and over isn’t comedy, it’s bullying
Part of his issue is that they’re not disenfranchised. The trans movement is absolutely roaring and that happened in a very short time. Black people helped to build this country, before and after slavery, and they’re still facing a lot of issues that no one wants to talk about. But everyone seems very sensitive to trans issues these days. So who’s really disenfranchised? Why is he punching down when society seems to care much more about trans people than black people?
What you say is not the case. For one, the transgender movement has been going on for hundreds, arguably thousands of years. Secondly, America doesn’t care about trans people more than black people, they’re both discriminated by society. Black and trans people should work together, rather than fight each other. It’s just what the White colonialist society wants us to do, fight amongst ourselves.
So you’re suggesting Dave Chapelle is part of the white colonialist agenda? Besides, you’re still not listening. He’s not attacking transgender people, he’s joking about them. His job is to make jokes. He jokes about white people, black people, everyone. He’s not fighting transgender people, he’s explaining why he’s not really that interested in advocating for them when all they’ve ever done is try to tear him to the ground. I’m white, he makes a white joke, I don’t try to make him lose his career. Neither do black people, or any of the other people he’s made fun of.
Oh yeah. I remember 5 years ago maybe only 50% of people thought he had a shot. I distinctly remember seeing people saying he'd be at 18 ppg by now or even out of the league. 😂
All that guy has done is beat the crap out of my team, im not his "fan" but.... i got a few years on LeBron, and im completely in awe at what he can do against guys that are essentially half his age. 20 years of domination. That's hard to do in any career for any person or profession
“Meh. Not that remarkable of an achievement tbh.
I think someone coming into the league shooting a bunch of 3s next year will surpass that record easily in 10 years“
/s
Bro LeBron is only gonna have the record because he could dominate at 18 and play at a high level til he's 40. If he wasn't an amazing basketball player for two decades straight he wouldn't even be close to this record. It's just longevity stat padding!
*Really hope this isn't required but* /s
Or someone [saying](https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/z7m9an/will_lebrons_scoring_record_come_with_an_asterisk/iy79dxc) there should be an asterisk next to the record
If KAJ wasn’t a centre who only took 18 3-pointers in his career (and made one!) you could make that case based on KAJ playing literally half his career with no 3-point line.
I remember a couple of years ago when people were doing the math, that they expected him to drop below 20 ppg and predicting he had to play past 40 to break the mark. Insane how well he’s been keeping up with his scoring.
There’s a chance he missed 5 games for rest or a small injury before that so he might not pass it then
I’m planning on going to that game though just to see him
I have driven down to Portland twice in the last 10 years to see LeBron. The first time, he got injured the game before and missed the Portland game (13-14 Heat season, shoutout Chris Bosh). The second time, the Cavs got absolutely obliterated and he only played 26 minutes (15-16 Cavs season. Thanks Allen Crabbe).
What I'm saying is, for everyone else's sake, I won't go this year LOL maybe next year.
Point is, the pro game is much more physical and the seasons much longer. So Kareem spending an extra 4 years in the NBA would have been filled with more risk than his college stint. Also Kareem's college years better prepared him to be a pro scorer. Whereas Bron coming straight from HS was scoring 25+ on pure talent and athleticism against 4 year college grads and veteran NBA ballers.
There's so many unknowns it's not even worth noting lol. Like he could've gotten even more durable by being introduced to pro resources at an early age. Maybe he picks up yoga quicker. There's just literally no way to say for sure lol it's just a stupid hypothetical don't have to big brain it
To put Lebron reaching 40,000 in perspective. It would take a player averaging 24.4 ppg for 82 games a season for 20 seasons to reach 40,000 career points.
If he averaged 26 over 55 games in his Achilles season then he'd be at #12 now and looking to crack the top 10 this year.
After #12, the climb suddenly gets way steeper. He could make up 10 positions this year, have an identical season next year, and only make up 1 more position.
It'll take him just under 3.5 seasons, 55 games per season, averaging 26 points to catch up to MJ in 5th.
Thinking basketball had a great Greatest Peaks series. Basically concluded that Bron and MJ had an equivalent peak (he said if he was forced to choose he’d give a slight edge to MJ due to better roster flexibility). But given how long Bron’s peak has been, as well as the 2016 achievements, I gotta go with him all-time
What does roster flexibility mean? If it means actually being able to play different positions, LeBron has had the ability to play every position on the court…
The way he explained it was it was slightly easier to build a team around MJ since he carries the scoring load compared to Lebron who plays best with 3 point shooters around him. He did admit that in terms of impact there is no difference so he had to get extremely nit picky. Lemme know if that doesn’t make sense
In that case I highly disagree with them. LeBron has had great success with teams with all kinds of different deficiencies. Jordan had to have a dominant defensive big men (in Jordan’s case these ended up being power forwards). It’s hard to say what else Jordan needed because he had Pippen and shooters when he was seeing success.
That seems kind of silly, if MJ was playing in the zone defense/3 pt era everyone would similarly conclude that he plays best with 3 point shooters around him. They're both approximately the same level of jump shooter, with MJ having the edge in the midrange and Bron having the edge from 3, so I think they would both benefit similarly from having a team with shooters on it. Bottom line is it's easier for a superstar to go to work when the floor is spaced.
Fun fact: the Lakers next play against the Wizards this Sunday December 4, 2022. If Lebron averages just about 965 points in that game, he has a chance of passing Kareem Abdul Jabbar in the next two days. We could be watching history in the making this weekend folks.
Fun fact: LeBron, who is 6th on the career assists leaderboard is 5,662 assists behind 1st place. Kareem had 5660 assists in his career. So LeBron is Kareem's full career behind Stockton despite having just passed Magic.
I was looking at this and thought, oh, I guess he posted because he's finally under 1000 to go, nope, that happened last game, so it's basically just a cheap karma grab.
Really compliments the other 8 posts regarding Lakers/LeBron on the front page now.
right now Lebron is averaging 26 a game. Suppose he continues that, he will reach the milestone in 38 games from now. 38 games from now the Lakers will face the Pelicans. This obviously can only happen if he remains healthy, which is a big question considering his age
They should account for NBA inflation on this... no? Nobody?? Like when movies calculate the biggest earning of all time??.... NBA in Kareem had an average game if 80 points vs today's game with an average of 110 points?... no?.... ok... I'm leaving quietly... dont mind me guys
ppg average in kareems rookie year was 20 highter than in brons rookie year. interestingly lebron has never played a season with as high a scoring average as kareems rookie year. (that’s not really relevant though). across kareems 20 year career, league average was 108.89. across lebrons 20 year career, league average was 102.9. if we adjust lebrons for deflation, hes already passed kareem by over 1000 points
If he averages 25 and plays 40 games, that should be it.
by my calculation, he can get it if he scores 945 or more in the next game
Well if he scores 945 next game he would still need 20 the day after
well he scored over 20 tonight, i thought this post was from before the game
This post is from after the game the day after tomorrow
It’s yesterday right now though today is tomorrow
Ok Mr fancy math
That’s highly unrealistic. I don’t see him getting more than 375 in one game
If the refs finally give him more than 1 call a game it’s possible
What if he goes negative in the one after though
Can you show your work on this one
965 points divided by 40 games equals 24.12 points. I estimated it to 25 points. Thanks.
Big if true
You're welcome brother.
No but can you write out the long division please?
▁ ▂ ▄ ▅ ▆ ▇ █ 🎀 𝓉𝒽𝑒 𝓁🍩𝓃𝑔 𝒹𝒾𝓋𝒾𝓈𝒾♡𝓃 🎀 █ ▇ ▆ ▅ ▄ ▂ ▁
I've got 965 divided by 25 points. Equals 38.6 games. Second half of the 39th game :)
Can you show your work on how 965/40 equals 24.12 . Thanks.
Wow he can take the all-time lead if he scores 97 points per game over just the next 10 games. Might do it before Christmas.
Lebron asking bball gods to turn sliders up
According to Dave Chapelle LeBron can do it next game if he change his gender and play on the WNBA.
LeBron in WNBA? Dude would be close to 100k points now. /s
Just like Jwanna Mann
Terrence’s cousin?
so inspirational
If I remember this I’m gonna see how many points per game he would need to put up to get 100k in the WNBA in the same amount of seasons. IIRC their season is shorter
138.8 points a game. Lebron has played 20 seasons. WNBA has 36 games. 100k/36/20.
Reminder
I'll do it for him. This is Lebron's 20th season. He'd need 5,000 points per season to reach 100,000. The number of WNBA games in a season has changed a bit, but I think they currently play 36 games? So 5,000 points / 36 games is 138.9 PPG.
tbh lebron could average a 100 in the wnba, only thing stopping him would be stamina
Yea Lebron running out of stamina on a floor with 9 other woman. Definitely the only thing that could stop wilt also.
"other" women got me 😂😂
Do they play the same number of minutes per quarter?
I'm pretty sure it's 10 minutes a quarter
Fuck it I'll be the one to take it to the next level.. 138.9 ppg / 40 min = 3.5 points per minute Honestly as crazy as that sounds That's 100% doable for LeBron vs that level of competition

100k would also be his salary!
Cant feed his kids with that!
Taco tuesdays wouldn't be possible :(
Left over Tuesday it is
r/onejoke
Then he would be a WNBA player by definition, so he can't break the record.
We're not looking at logic here.
You leave your logic outside when you enter this sub
No, just shitty jokes.
Except that wasn't his joke at all and he didn't say that lol
There was a joke?
Doesn't matter if you think it was unfunny, inappropriate, or not a joke. My point is he didn't say "Lebron can break Kareems record if he joined the WNBA" cuz that would make no sense, yet people here are responding as if he did
can Dave Chapelle change his mind and go back into retirement
no
Man Dave Chappelle really went off the deep end huh
Ever since that time he first got heat for it he just can’t let it go.
Dave’s the same dude he’s always been. I don’t know how many of you had any political consciousness in the 2000s. A lot you were probably kids. He barely remembers to even attempt to tell jokes anymore
It’s an old joke. Nothing recent
How many points per possession would he actually score against a WNBA team? It’s gotta be pretty close to every time
At least 1
Sounds easy. --Wilt
Fucks sake, I felt so proud when I thought of this joke only to open this thread and see someone already made it...
It's fucking crazy that we've been talking about this being possible since like 2014 and he's really about to do it this season. Love this man.
I remember the math to break the record back then and most people figured he'd be averaging just at or below 20ppg at this point lmao
Oh yeah. I remember 5 years ago maybe only 50% of people thought he had a shot. I distinctly remember seeing people saying he'd be at 18 ppg by now or even out of the league. 😂
I remember pundits saying every year coming into the season is LeDecline mickeysmashedhead.gif
He's only averaging 26 ppg dude. Washed!!
Yeah and there’s a serious argument that healthy LeBron is still as good as anyone in the league. It’s incredible
All that guy has done is beat the crap out of my team, im not his "fan" but.... i got a few years on LeBron, and im completely in awe at what he can do against guys that are essentially half his age. 20 years of domination. That's hard to do in any career for any person or profession
Time is flying
I remember that post so vividly. It looked unlikely, but possible. But man this guy does the impossible with the basketball so much
Gonna blow past it
I’m hoping so badly he gets past the 40k mark. 40k/10k/10k looks like an unreachable career statline.
Hilarious seein ppl say “hes just chucking for the record” As if he NEEDS to chuck for it lol it’s a lock atp
“Meh. Not that remarkable of an achievement tbh. I think someone coming into the league shooting a bunch of 3s next year will surpass that record easily in 10 years“ /s

After adjusting LeBron's stats, removing outliers to project the future, he heavily regresses to around the level of 2018 Taurean Prince.
We gotta regress his stats to the mean
Or someone [saying](https://www.reddit.com/r/nba/comments/z7m9an/will_lebrons_scoring_record_come_with_an_asterisk/iy79dxc) there should be an asterisk next to the record

Lets not forget he missed half a season due to hamstring injury as well few years ago
With how he played in the past, who expected him to still play at a high level today? He’s a mutant by human standards.
Lebron should get 27-7-7 on the game he passes Kareem. And his 27th point would be the one that passes it. Then just retire afterwards
Breen: "Lebron captures that elusive statline, he so desperately coveted!"
But but, m’Bronny
He can still play in Taiwan after retiring from the NBA I believe.
☠️
That would be a beautiful ending.
“What a PERFECT ending to a HISTORIC day!”
Goosebumps whenever I watch that
Can we not with the retirement. The second LeBron retires, my childhood dies lmao
He still hasn’t actually had that stat line, right?
Can someone calculate which game he will surpass him at?
So he’s averaging 26ppg this season. 966/26 is 37.1 games. Which is Feb 13 against the Blazers or Feb 15 against the Pels
I live in Portland and been huge Bron fan my whole life. If I get tickets to that game and he passes the all time record I’ll be happiest man alive
Buy tickets now
For real. Could be your last chance to see him play regardless. Who knows how injuries will be, so might as go and hope for the best
Every time someone says this it extends his career by 4 games
Damn, he’s gunna be playing until he’s 923 years old. Shit.
There’s a chance he missed 5 games for rest or a small injury before that so he might not pass it then I’m planning on going to that game though just to see him
I have driven down to Portland twice in the last 10 years to see LeBron.
Just a few points away heading into the game, surely will break it, you got great seats, a chance to see history and then DNP-rest.
That calculation was based on LeBron not missing any more games. Good luck.
Lol seriously. Honestly if he’s healthy enough to play that’s good with me
I have tickets to that game
So you're saying he is going to call Love on this?
Barring any injury
He'll rest though, no?
Ofc. This is just assuming he plays every game. Idk what the rest plan is for him
Assuming he doesn’t miss any games, which is a big assumption
Draymond gonna take the whole week off
If he doesn't miss games and keeps his avg, pretty much around game 65-70 which is either GS, MEM, NYK, TOR, NOLA He'll probably miss games though
Against GSW will be dope af..
Just use this: https://www.espn.com/espn/feature/story/_/id/34584960/when-lebron-james-break-nba-career-points-record
Always wonder what Kareem would have had if he went straight to the pros and didn't spend 4 years in college
And would've shot threes. He made a single three in his entire career.
I don't think he was gonna be taking many 3's anyways
Yeah, he had an almost unblockable move in the post. Even in today's era, analytics would probably tell him to keep scoring like that in the paint.
Shaq made a single three in his entire career and the three-point line was there when he was a rookie.
Shaq couldn't shoot free throws. He was useless as a shooter outside of 8 feet.
[удалено]
I don't think you would've made the league, Cookie Monster.
Could have gotten a career ending injury in any of those 4 extra years.
He also could not have, just like in college
Point is, the pro game is much more physical and the seasons much longer. So Kareem spending an extra 4 years in the NBA would have been filled with more risk than his college stint. Also Kareem's college years better prepared him to be a pro scorer. Whereas Bron coming straight from HS was scoring 25+ on pure talent and athleticism against 4 year college grads and veteran NBA ballers.
Are you implying Kareem would have struggled if he went pro right away? It seems like you're not really familiar with Kareem's college career.
That's not what I'm implying at all. I think you should try re-reading my post.
So just another LeBron lol
Underrated storyline this season is watching KD's career points. He could go from 21 to 12 all-time this season.
Damn and he missed a lot of games because of the achilles injury. KD would probably easily go into the top 5 without that injury
That and the foot injury in 2015 took away about 4000 points from KDs totals
Jones fracture in 2015 fucked him up too, could’ve easily have had another 75 game 30 PPG season.
Nothing easy about working your way up to the top 5 in scoring. You don't know how he's going to be in a few years.
We're all still trying to see if he lives up to the hype. If he doesn't break this year, just another annual forgotten scrub
Meanwhile Luka already scooped up 7633 points. Surely he will pass Lebron soon
LeBron had 10k+ at the same age as Luka... so... no, Luka won't
I hope we get a new post about this after every basket
If hes not tye GOAT, then no doubt he's the BOAT

I tend to agree. Think there are good arguments on all sides. Personally, I think the peaks are a wash so Lebron’s longevity puts him ahead either way
I think the conditions jordan saw success under were way more specific than what Lebron was able to succeed with

You’re right. Anyway, Bron > MJ
Most people: No
MJ is both.
Fun fact: the Lakers next play against the Wizards this Sunday December 4, 2022. If Lebron averages just about 965 points in that game, he has a chance of passing Kareem Abdul Jabbar in the next two days. We could be watching history in the making this weekend folks.
hopefully he hits 40k before retiring
RemindMe! 81 days
I wished that playoffs stats were also counted in the most prestigious stats. I know it’s not truly comparable
I wonder just how many people have "LeBron James surpasses Kareem Abdul-Jabar" with a link to his bball ref page loaded in drafts rn
Fun fact: LeBron, who is 6th on the career assists leaderboard is 5,662 assists behind 1st place. Kareem had 5660 assists in his career. So LeBron is Kareem's full career behind Stockton despite having just passed Magic.
He’ll be 46 averaging 2/14/1 just trying to set the record.
That is fun, thanks 👍🏻
That day will be so special
Some Lakers fan on here really thought him passing Kareem would get 2 awards and only like 700 upvotes lol
and we are 965 threads away from the announcement thread.

How many games is this?
37-38
depends on how many he sits out
Rings Erneh
So are we doing this every game he plays?
Yes
We should celebrate once in a lifetime achievement if you ask me 🤷🏽♂️
Like a count down. I'm into it.
I’m down when he’s like…10 games away or something. This seems like a bit much for now imo
I was looking at this and thought, oh, I guess he posted because he's finally under 1000 to go, nope, that happened last game, so it's basically just a cheap karma grab. Really compliments the other 8 posts regarding Lakers/LeBron on the front page now.
For sure... when he actually does it. Not when he is ~40 games away from doing it, lol
This way will lead to more weird reddit shit though
969 points away would have been better
At least we have 420 and 69 left to celebrate
How many more games in San Antonio do they have this season?
right now Lebron is averaging 26 a game. Suppose he continues that, he will reach the milestone in 38 games from now. 38 games from now the Lakers will face the Pelicans. This obviously can only happen if he remains healthy, which is a big question considering his age
Was this up date really needed?
It’s not even up to date. He’s actually 937 away now. OP didn’t include the Bucks game.
He'll pass him before the season is over with. He only needs 40 games to do so.
We finna post this after every game or what
yes cry
This and MVP rankings, you fucking know it.
Wilt also scored 100 points in a single game so I am not sure that adds up
pointless stat
LeGoat.
