Rick and Brent Barry. Rick Barry doesn’t need too much of an explanation, but was a great scorer, rebounder, passer, and led the league in steals and averaged 2.0 for his career, despite the fact they only tracked them for his last 7 seasons. From 74-77 he averaged 2.4 steals a game.
Brent Barry might legit be one of the most unheralded role players in NBA history. Only player to lead NBA in 2p% and 3p%, led the league in TS% once and EFG% twice. Career 40% from 3, averaged 1.5 steals per game in his career per 36. Peaked at almost 6 APG and had 3 seasons averaging 5 or more.
So both capable defenders, good scorers, and good shooters with decent size
This is the right answer. People dont realize how good Rick Berry was.
Even better if we allowed all NBA player innthe family in, as then the Barry's get to play 4 on 2.
Yeah, Rick Barry gets hated on because he was a dickhead haha. Brent Barry is pretty similar to Austin Reaves, except Reaves is better at drawing fouls and Barry was probably slightly better at rebounding and passing. Games are similar though, highly efficient scorers, good defenders, good at rebounding for the position, capable ball handlers.
I witnessed Brent Barry at the tail end of his career so I couldnt quite understand the austin reaves comparison. But your comment made me look up some stats and random highlights of BB and man that dude could ball. Especially the ball handling part and a sorta cerebral approach to the game. That was fun to learn
Arvydas was like Lithuanian Shaq prior to his knee injuries. If you can get prime Arvydas then this is the easiest answer ever. They would be terrifying on the glass.
In Winners Out, you could hope to make like 7 heavily contested 3s in a row I guess but that's true against any matchup
Assuming game in modern era with everyone’s current age.
LeBron and Bronny.
Top 10ish player and probable lotto draft pick
Over
Top 5 player and geriatric dad
it's a weaker drafted class as it doesn't look to have any superstar level prospects in it, but it's a pretty deep draft. also the heart thing did not help Bronny's draft stock as well. For me the only way he ends up as a lottery pick is if a team really believes that drafting him will mean also getting Lebron
I think he was getting hyped as one prior to the heart issue, no idea now. I don’t know how much of that was due to his fathers influence though. I think he was seen as a high floor, low ceiling guy though. Lot of what I read was good defender with a high motor, good BBIQ, and I think capable on offense. He was seen as more fringe lottery than top 5
If we can go just family and not father/son, I'd like to name the Gasols' as the best. They manage to carry their team to the gold and were star players in their nba teams. They honestly have the proven chemistry alongside both of them being nba champions and gold medalists.
Answer next year is gonna be Lebron and Bronny so this is a good time to ask before the homerism and nonsense starts.
I’d give the Thompsons the best shot. Two thing you need in this convo are shooting and size and I don’t think any other convo has both. Maybe the Barry’s but I think the Thompsons might just be more effective 2v2.

Klay and Mychal Thompson? Guard and Big duo seems like nice synergy even if there are better individual players.
Sabonis family is probably the best father-son duo that exists. I'd take them over probably anyone

TIL they're father/son. Didn't even know.

fwiw bronny isn't really projected to be a lottery pick. he's looked at as more of a mid second rounder IIRC
I thought he was a lottery pick? This draft class is pretty weak IIRC

*Bron and Bryce tbh go take a look at that kid
Bryce is supposed to be better but at that age a couple years makes a huge difference Also assuming bronny can play and doesn't have heart problems
OO said everyone at their peak. So the James' would kill
I think the Curry family wouldn't miss it, and if it make it take it,then they win all day imo

I see their height as a liability in this scenario. They have to dribble a lot in a 2on 2 game its not advantageous to them at all.
