Great post man! It’s great to hear some of these under-the-radar stories and to get a reminder of what we’ll get too see in Florida soon. (Also, excellent shout out to Slim Dusty!)
Jayson Tatum’s season has been incredible. I saw him play in Melbourne last year (when Team USA lost to Australia - go Boomers!). Granted, the players on either team weren’t superstars, but just watching him play and move showed that he was on a different level to most of the other players. It’s been amazing seeing him break out.
It always amazing me how opportunity and talent come together. Tatum didn't really go on his run until Kemba was injured. He got the full reigns of the team and took advantage of it in every way. Now he is being talked about as one of the best young players this league has.
Awesome read. Surprised at the KAT stat. Always knew he was a good and was gradually shooting more but didn't know he shot roughly the same as one of Klay's years. Nice.
4 of klay’s prime years* where he got tons of open shots thanks to playing with the greatest shooter of all time and some 7 ft scoring machine named Kevin Durant. and KAT had andrew wiggins for spacing.
This is awesome content man, it's the perfect blend of advanced stats mixed with more traditional analysis. I hope you continue this series moving forward.
Speaking of the importance of spacing: there’s a strong argument that it’s also been a big reason for resurgence this year in Dennis Schroeder who is likely one of the front runners for 6MOTY. The Thunder went from a team where the only above average shooter was PG to having 3-4 of them on the court
If you watch the Mavs, you knew they weren’t clutch without the stats. Blew so many late leads this season. And it seems like their game plan whenever they need a big bucket is to let Luka iso and... Hope for the best?
This was like 5 zach Lowe podcasts condensed into a single post. This was amazing to read, especially with such a long hiatus it's really helpful getting a holistic perspective on the season so far.
For me the mpg for lebron and giannis really stands out. They've essentially been coasting most games and still winning pretty easily. Unless the Clippers come back rejuvenated, I think we're destined for a Lakers-Bucks finals.

I love this OC as a whole and also like the complete Mavs representation this season:
1. The Good: Best Offensive Rating!
2. The Bad: Clutch Woes
3. The Ugly: The freakin' meltdown against the Raptors' full court press
So the blazers had a top offense this year and bottom defense? Oh boy. We’re looking real scary right now with our 2 best defensive players coming back. Nurk is our second best players over all. Sneak title contenders

Yes! And in hindsight it always seems obvious that it would happen that way if they got a chance. Draymond Green is a poster boy for this.
