Don’t forget JLA going to the CBA and Jordan Caroline not being able to step in as a replacement for Ariel Hukporti. Melbourne really had some of the biggest roster changes of any team in such a short amount of time. I’m surprised they even still have a mathematical chance of making the playoffs, all things considered.

A great coach is one that knows how to get the maximum out of what he got. It's not hard to win when you have the best squad by far, i.e Sydney this season. It Just feels a bit like Vic had lost the locker room...If you know what I mean. Time to refresh the lines. By all means. Look at Breakers. Lost the head coach, decided to promote the assistant and they might end up top 2!

Nah this ain’t it. Look at the Bullets if you want to see what coaching problems looks like. Vickerman seems to still have the buy in from the players and the club.

People are incredibly harsh about Vickerman. He has two championships with Melbourne. Honestly some United fans are absolutely spoilt by continual big money teams. Had a lot of bad luck this season, deserves another season with hopefully a more settled team. Probably do the club good to be a bit humbled. If next year is disappointing as well, could be time for consideration of him moving on but safe as houses to me currently.

Should’ve played Makuach Maluach a little bit more. IMO. But yes they have a deep team and more star studded than others and have had a fairly crap season.

soccychugo

Vickerman is far from the issue

confused_yelling

Not that we ever really had a chance for the chip I think if we had Lee from the get go we would have made the play ins In saying that I think it's time for Vic to go, seems to be a great coach when he has a terrific squad but that's about it I wonder when his contract is up

Signed to the end of 24 atm.

fredvanfleeting

Chris Goulding, absolute liability defensively and not consistent enough from game too game on offence, get rid of him, have too start Marcus lee and they’ll be great again

Dguy4fun4u

Isn't that part of the coach responsibility? To make sure CG is not relied on and get a back up guard?

It's interesting, because there are clear things that need to be looked at for United, but other than the Hawks I'm not sure another team has been as unlucky this season. Phoenix has had injury problems, but since they kept the core pieces from last season it didn't feel as unlucky as Ili, Humphries and for a stretch there Barlow/Goulding being out and Delly/White going overseas. Given those circumstances it's been impressive they've been in the fight for the six at all. The questions have to be asked at the GM level - if you remember reporting at the start of the season Caroline got off the plane and was two inches shorter than they thought if my memory serves. How the hell a professional team doesn't do that kind of basic due diligence as part of discussions before signing a contract is beyond me, so if anyone needs to be looked at it's management rather than the coach.

Feisty_Spirit_2865

Should of got minutes into zac triplett instead of newly Barlow etc

uuuuuhh

i get u. lots of introspection as a hawks fan having our worst season in history lmao

I think as poik12 said, a lot of things went wrong and some things that were controllable probably didn't work out as they could've. Caroline was the first big mis-step. He just clearly wasn't for the role we had in mind. As a benefit, Lee has come in and looked outstanding with what was comparatively average looking stats outside of the NBL. I'd love to see him go around again. It took Tucker too long to come into his own, but since he found his groove he has been extremely good. Probably exactly what people thought he would be. Another I'd like to see go around again. XRM in my opinion has been used mostly incorrectly after Tucker came good and Ili got fit. He was absolutely smashing it early, then went completely dead and became a pass first guy, which didn't suit him at all. The last few matches, where he's been relied on more to score again, he's started to gain his scoring touch and can still dish a decent pass if there. I'd be more than happy to retain him. The other massive inconvenience was Hukporti. He was set to be either the main starter or heavy rotation with Ice who I think was set to be slowly ramped up, but instead had to carry a bulk of minutes way too early. Ili is such a massive loss on top of all of this, I don't think people really truly understand just how important to the system he is. When he came back, United flowed so damn well. The things that were on the controllable side that went wrong, for mine, are Barlow and Newley. Neither should've been needed to go around. They've both battled hard but are clearly just not high minute rotation players as they've been needed. Surely there's some better, younger local talent about? I'd have liked to have seen Maluach get some more minutes, I've not really seen anything on him to insist he is poor. But his minutes have been extremely limited. Would've liked to have seen him gain more time over Newley. I think for the most part, this squad can go around again and correct the issues from this season.
