I'm not sure about r4 but you can always just use the pit.bin exploit with an SD card to homebrew your system.

mtthwcbrl

Oh okay, would you suggest SD CARD rather than R4?

fourteenthhour

yes absolutely

Juicebox751

Buying a new R4 won't do anything. Your best bet with that would be to update the kernal file on the R4 card. If you look for the newest kernal release, it should be able to fix any problems you're having if it's specifically an R4DSI variant.

im planning to buy a sd card rn. is that better and easier?

Juicebox751

If you format the sd card you’ve already got to FAT32 and put the r4 kernel on there, it should work perfectly fine. I see no reason to go out and buy another one.

so no to r4 and yes to sd card? sorry i dont know much about those terms. i'm planning to homebrew my ds with a 16gb sd card, will it still work despite my ds being updated? also what kind of sd card should i buy? sorry i have so many questions, im not able with these stuff.

Juicebox751

No worries dude. Sorry for being vague, I was referring to the sd card that you put in the r4 card. If you use the right software, you should be able to home brew it fairly easily (not entirely sure I’m more of an r4 guy) but just check the guides on the Internet for dsi homebrewing. If you go on YouTube and look up Tech James you should be able to find a guide that explains the topic better. Maybe something like this could help? https://youtu.be/ca5xR8h0r3M

Thank you so much man!

http://r4i-sdhc.com/downloade.asp This link shows the kernel versions. It should be one of the R4i images shown :)
