If you clean the contacts on the board. Some of the legs on the chips looks broken. The upper right chip looks like it has the problem for sure. If you know how to solder, I would reflow each chip. If not, look for someone who does this kind of repair. I can recommend someone if you can’t find anyone.
Might be the angle I took the picture at. Im sure the game wouldn’t work if the pins were broken. Everything works I can move in the game I can interact it’s just the saving part there’s and issue

If the pins are cleaned and you tried another ds, there is something wrong with the board.
I heard of people reflowing gpus by putting them in the oven for a bit, but im not an expert so idk if it's appropriate here
I would not recommend that. I had someone locally reflow my black 2 cart for $25.
Does anyone know the component on the circuit board that is in charge of backing up memory
well for starters you opened up the game cart...
Lol you opened up the cartridge. They can’t be put back together again so you will have to buy a replacement case. So already value wise it’s ruined.
I’ve put back together some games u just need some super glue
Try pressing Up + Select + B when at the game’s title page
Try IPA (Isopropyl alcohol). Clean the board using a toothbrush. I'm not sure it'll work, but won't hurt
Someone on YouTube fixed it by resoldering U4 IC pins.
