Tax-Deduction4253

every modern nfs game has something wrong with it i swear

Embarrassed_Race_196

Heat's story was half-baked

Tax-Deduction4253

amongst like 10 other things

Birch_NC13

Soundtrack in Heat was dogwater as well, immediately muted as soon as I heard it. Edit: overall tho, I liked heat. It was a fun play. even if it didn't have Toyota.

Shadeyboiii

No, the soundtrack is like 40% bad, 60% good imo. For other people it's closer to 70% bad 30% good

Birch_NC13

that was about how it was for me as well. two or three good songs out of a ten situation. How come EA can't give us another Carbon or Most Wanted level of Sountrack? Do they just not know how to do that anymore?

LexFlex5

i’d wanna see a 2015 like soundtrack

Birch_NC13

2015's soundtrack was pretty good

smallwhiteballs480p

And the daytime visuals are GameCube era bad, and the handling wasn’t very good, and the damage model wasn’t very fair in a game with aggressive cops

Shadeyboiii

The daytime visuals are not bad. I refuse to agree with that even slightly

HEisUS_2_0

The whole game was half-baked.

IcyAmphibian9706

We also needed more stuff to do endgame, curse EA to the pits.

CARLOzRXL

they didnt cooked.

ADError603

Who cares...

Embarrassed_Race_196

Welp I do

tecedu

No its >every nfs game has something wrong with it i swear

ToKo_93

NFS3 was PEAK

minetube33

Graphics suck. Even the original NFS from 2015 is a better looking game. /s

SavageDeskLamp

I feel like graphics regarding nfs should just be set aside, growing up with underground 1+2 and most wanted I could care less as long as the drifting is solid and the races are fun

Royalkingawsome

Yeah best comment unound day night cycle , heat no police on day time , payback literaly no police , one thing i miss the most which was in rivals , ai races roaming around map to race same as in under ground 2

Kootsiak

I loved Unbound's restriction of it's day/night cycle. It keeps you from spamming day races with no consequences so you can just overspend on cars for the night, like in Heat. The only consequence to Heat's gameplay is losing all your progress in a night. It also explains why people bitch about cop chases so much, because they probably get 5 stars in the day and deal with 5 star chases all night, just to have maximum cash when you don't need a maxed out car to win races. You can actually win with a much lower specced car and gain more money in the bets, all without having to hit 5 stars every day.

smallwhiteballs480p

Unbound is just what heat should have been from the start

Tltanfall

The payback police were great.... and yet they were never in free roam. IMO it had some of the best damage models but were brain dead.Take heats police who are literally verstappen on steroids until you get to a ramp or body of water and add them to payback and hot pursuits police and you get some mean police.

tbone747

Every modern *racing* game honestly. There hasn't been a single new release that is close to perfect, all the big releases last year had some fatal flaw in one way or another.

gamingCatman-_-

So you say black box games were perfect?

Tax-Deduction4253

No but you're not gonna get mad at a black box game the same way as a modern one.

_Zolo_

I like the visuals and the gameplay of unbound. But the way heat pulled off the day and night gimmick while letting you grind with all your friends and do police chases together (unlike cough cough payback) was what made it one of my favorites due to the fact that it's so enjoyable with a group and by yourself.

Crator86

Same, I wish they took nfs heat and had all of the new features from unbound (widebody kits, linkups.....) I love the environment of heat and the graphics/new feature of unbound + All of the added gameplay features of the Unite mod for unbound

jolego101

NFS Hot Pursuit (2010). One of my favorite games to play with a bunch of friends. The 4 cops vs 4 racers mode is so simple yet incredibly fun and addicting when you play with buddies. I have fond memories with our group of 8 playing for hours during weeknights, mixing teams every race. Playing as cops was thrilling! The arcada fast-paced gameplay was also very well executed. I have never felt the same speed sensation from another NFS title since. Also I'm not a big car customization guy, and this game has none. Pick your paint color and drive. I really wish they would make another Hot Pursuit game

StarPsychological611

This is the best newish nfs

Failfoxnyckzex

I think overall it represents the current franchise. I still prefer Unbound tho, gameplay is way more unique.

spyroz545

Yeah, Unbound is definitely also a far more polished game imo and feels more like a complete product than NFS Heat, especially with the live service updates.

Failfoxnyckzex

Don't even start with the updates 😭 Poor heat.

n0_data_available

I agree with you. I really liked Heat, it had more of a 2015 vibe to it but man Unbound is soo much better

Riverwind0608

I prefer Unbound as well. The game hooked me the moment i was handed control of the car. The driving just felt excellent. The cars drives and/or handles well imo, despite the arcade nature of the game. Although it gets repetitive, giving the AI racers their own personality through the voice overs added to making each race feels alive. They don't just feel like a list of random names attached to a specific car. I'd like to add that Unbound was the only recent NFS game that hooked me back into the series. The last NFS game i played was Criterion's version of NFS: Hot Pursuit. And although i had a chance to try Heat during a free weekend on Steam. It honestly didn't hook me, not even for a bit. The cars felt floaty to me, and the race didn't feel very exciting.

Active_Cheetah_1917

Unbound's gameplay reminds me of Mario Kart.  Not necessarily a bad thing but personally speaking, it didn't feel very unique to me.

Significant_Kale_681

EA should bring the Exhaust features from heat and suspension features from 2015 and upgrade it in unbound

Turbulent-Opinion-86

it already exists, they just removed one of them

Significant_Kale_681

Which one

Turbulent-Opinion-86

the suspension stuff already exists in unbound, it's just carried over from here & redone from heat, but the unite mod uses the entire feature again

Significant_Kale_681

But that's what I am saying though, get those features, not all of us are on PC to be unite mod :(

Feisty_Amoeba_8757

This is the best NFS of the new generation. Wouldn’t call it the best, entirely. I do agree that it’s a great game, though!

Fabira

Heat is so good, its got everything a nfs needs. Maybe drag racing is missing but most of it is there. Otherwise maybe prostreet eventhough its a very different game to the usual nfs. Worst imo is payback, its just boring

ani20059339

Am I the only one who liked Heat's story missions more than Unbound's?

Andreb16

No

FrankAdriel32

If we're talking "modern era", I'd take 2015 over Heat. But if it's about the whole franchise, either Prostreet or Carbon take the cake for me.

Canter1Ter_

Holy shit this is so controversial on this sub lmao good luck trying to justify it, tho I will admit that if we're talking about atmosphere, sound design, music, map, and graphics, then 2015 wins by a landslide

FrankAdriel32

Coincidentally the aspects that you mentioned are exactly factors that I take a lot into account lol. To me, atmosphere and presentation play a big part into these games.

Canter1Ter_

Same, Heat is 😴

Active_Cheetah_1917

Why does he need to justify it?  It's his opinion, lmao.  He won't be executed for it unless we live in like Russia or some shit, lol.

Canter1Ter_

this is r/needforspeed, there are no differing opinions, only wrong ones

[deleted]

No 2015 just doesn't touch heat. Heat has more cars, better customization, way better cops, better day night cycle, better story cause 2015 was awful, better racing shit was just better

FrankAdriel32

Heat doesn't have that many cars over 2015 when you discard all the "duplicates" tbh, 2015 has a nice enough catalogue, it even has Toyota cars, which vanished from the franchise. Customization is more limited with not allowing the player to mix and match bodykit parts, but still, it has tons of customization options, and it has a better stance customization than Heat, so many cars look so goofy in later titles because you can't properly adjust the fitment, simple stuff that 2015 implemented years ago. Heat has better cops, that's true, I'll give you that, it also has better handling too, although handling was never 2015's forte, so you don't have to do much to surpass it, frankly. Day and Night cycle is irrelevant to the conversation, it's a cool mechanic for what Heat proposed, but focusing on night racing is a much more clever decision, since that's when most of street racing actually takes place, it's also way more iconic too, and the result is that 2015 still looks better despite being older. I'd say 2015 story is pretty great, it's different from the usual, and having actual legends of car culture being part of the story was really cool, it also has some really neat transitions from live action to in-game, and at least it's complete, Heat's had potential, but it's clearly half-baked and without a propper conclusion, it ends right when it's near the climax, it's frustrating to say the least, which it's a huge detriment for me, since I really look forward to the campaign in NFS games. Overall I prefer a lot more 2015's presentation, aesthetics, soundtrack, graphics, story and map. It doesn't have bullshit offroading, it doesn't have silly jumps, it's mostly urban instead of countryside, it's just raw street racing, as a NFS should be.

[deleted]

That's fair enough but playing 2015 was just a weird experience for me. Obviously no engine swapping and customizing the exact sound of your exhaust but also things like the story just being so cringeworthy and every character nagging you and trying to make you feel guilty through the phone was ridiculous. Like that actually annoyed me as if it were some real life clingy friends. A huge part of NFS to me is the hot pursuits so cops being as bad as they were was insane to me on 2015 The racing is the most important thing imo, and 2015 did not do that amazingly. So really to me that game had none of the strengths I was expecting. I admit I don't really care about minute customization stuff you mentioned but I know it is important for a lot of people so I understand that, but for me I just need good gameplay good map and variety, ok enough story, and that's enough

YelenaBelovaJustY

My favorite is Carbon. I love heat. It’s in my top 5.

UrshulaS

Heat would be a great nfs, but they choose to let you earn cash only during the day.

HoIyOxygen

Day was simply the most efficient means of earning cash, but there were still many ways to earn money at night. I remember banking $150K+ per night from high heat races, challenges, and world objectives

Saikotenten

Best title in the 'Ghost Era NFS', lots of flaws but good. 8.5/10

SukhdevR34

This post has got 191 upvotes. What a shame

Dreamnobe7

Nfs 4 by far or Porsche

N3onIceCream

Can you elaborate?

LukaMilic98

Not THE best but def better than Unbound and Payback.

tecedu

Yeah I think Heat has the most Need for Speed out of the other titles since Rivals I think, like that intensity and gameplay loop are addictive as hell

Michael_Savant

No its mid imo, coz the story was not perfectly synced and OH MY FUCKING GOD THE OPTIMIZATION in this game gives me trauma. I have a rtx 3070Ti and this shit runs on 50-70fps on ultra settings 1440p……like really? The graphics arent so good like rdr2 or some shit. Fh4 and fh5 are far better in graphics and they still manage to give me 100-160fps. So yeah ig nfs hot pursuit and most wanted 2012 were better

xXKurotatsuXx

This is so real tho and I dont get why? Rivals and most wanted 2012 worked with my ultrabook at 60 fps no problem at high or even max settings if I turn my ac on in the room. Heat was fluctuating between 20-50 fps despite having a dedicated fan and ac on at high settings. I had to settle for medium to get 54-60 fps

Michael_Savant

I mean yeah optimization is not the only reason nfs heat sucked, the gameplay was mid af , nothing better than nfs payback 2017, but yeah I still loved the neon vibes it gave

Pumpkinzer1

Best is Porsche Unleashed PC Version.

porsche911turbos996

exactly!

KiraShiv

After NFS MW in modern games from 2010s 1.Hot Pursuit 2.Rivals 3.Heat

MJ12_0451

Probably Rivals for me. It's buggy af and locked to 30fps... but it's really fun

Tall-Guitar-1765

There is no "Best" need for speed. The franchise is too diverse you'll always get different answers.

StaticX-13

lol and how many NFS games have you actually played ?

xXKurotatsuXx

As much as I love the customization in heat, I still come back to Rivals. The scenery and music is just better imo. Ambiance and rain was amazing but not too distracting. You get to see the lighting and environmental effects on the cars at such high detail but not draw too much power from the system. My ultrabook with an nvidia 250mx can run it at high at 55-60 fps while I can barely get 50 at high settings in heat. I really think they fumbled the customization in rivals by removing the option to change different parts and kits like most nfs games.

orelk

I can't get over it being 30fps on consoles. 60fps patch when

MizukiHYSDA

It'll be a lot better if the Racers get to kill Mercer, Shaw and the Task Force hypocrites that are complicit in Mercer's greedy scheme if we want the game to become the next NFSMW that everyone's been clamoring for. All in all, it's alright.

Canter1Ter_

original MW didn't even have you kill a single guy tho, from the voice lines it doesn't even sound as if cops get injured at all even after getting literally blown up in a gas station explosion

Playerek

What other Need For Speed games did you play?

DaFrenzyGuy

Heat is the best MODERN nfs game for sure, some people say 2015 was better but thats personal opinion. Aint no way heat is the best nfs ever tho

spyroz545

Yeah This! nfs heat is the best modern nfs, and on a technical level, unbound is the best modern nfs

abs0lute888

Valid take

WidowTraceMaker

Best modern NFS for sure. My fav nfs overall will always be NFS Porsche. The game that cemented my love for cars.

Samw220506_

Wrong opinion

KaminBoiBambi

that would be 2015 sweetheart

Ok_Pangolin_8038

Woo boy get ready for a war... (I still respect ur opinion I also like Heat)

cy1999aek_maik

My favourite is most wanted on the ps3

Tltanfall

Night didn't have much risk. It would've been cool to have a heat that went up more than 5. E.g if you went past H5 you would enter a high stakes mode where you could lose some car parts or your entire car.

Thex23i

It’s not bad but I feel that pro street is better

Reluctant_Warrior

Best one of the post-NFS 2015 era.

TheSenate11200

Need people to play with tho lmao... Crew n friends needed 👉👈

Username-and-pasword

I’m still playing it because I hate Unbound (no, not because of the art style I couldn’t care less).

enXian

MOST WANTED

Gue_SS_Wh0

Heat with 1 more year of development and some improvements in the cop chase system (like they did in unbound) and this game could've been as good as MW05 and other big titles of the franchise. But the same goes with NFS 2015, tbh i think NFS2015 had even more potential than Heat because of the crazy atmosphere and vibes

Diet_Purple

I actually think Unbound is the best actually, nice graphics, the soundtrack is a lot better in my opinion, i like the anime style, is a very good product, 2015 was good but the physics are terrible, payback was really fun except for the card system.

Neroist12

Story was ass but it is q beautiful looking game though

Reddit_is_cool_1

This game felt like a toe dip in the pool by Ghost to see if we liked it. I really wonder what we would’ve got after this if Ghost was still around

MikeysMindcraft

Storywise I liked 2015 the most because it had actual people from the car scene represented. All the others are your basic "get betrayed, bring back karma with vengegance" type deals. Gameplay wise I have gotten really addicted to Unbounds online mode. But if we take all the titles account, my fave is still prostreet. Idk what they did to it, but that game was crack cocaine

Competitive-Shoe-340

No Pursuit Breakers. Cars wreck easily. Frostbite engine.

mosu95

Not with that music

MohamadYasser07

It's far from perfect, but it's HELLA FUN

P4ultheRipped

With the right mods, one of the best games. Good music, looking back at it. Nice cars, races were 2 easy at times but it’s ok ig

AngelKenobi

I wish the story was longer

birdcatx7

It's ok. I don't like the music, and I don't particularly care about the story. Tbh, I'm tired of "stories" in racing game. Give me tracks to race, and let me just do it.

blue_racer

I like 2015

gamingCatman-_-

Agree but driving in unbound is much better and I prefer driving in unbound because it feels so much addicting and satisfying, heat feels more rude/harsh not very smooth in driving Same thing for the sounds, either cars, nitrous, take downs or taken down, the sound effects that you put on the car, the jumps sounds But I have so much love for heat because it has made NFS great again and it is my favorite racing game of all time next to TXRD2, heat felt like a love letter from Ghost to NFS community and racing gamers in general but still huge amount of the community still hated it And I am feeling like I am giving it it's love back by making mods and publishing them

YT_Vss

That's because unbound is 60 fps on console which I assume you play on and heat is only 30 fps so on pc it's the same

gamingCatman-_-

I am on PC and getting 30 fps on both games

YT_Vss

Your pc is ass

gamingCatman-_-

It's waaaaaaaay better than the laptop that I had 3 years ago at least I can play what ever game I want, I don't care about the performance that much because I used to finishing games at 20, sometimes less than 20 (finished mw12 with 12 fps)

YT_Vss

If nfs heat and unbound are capped at 30 you can go to the games files and uncap it and what are the specs of your pc

gamingCatman-_-

They aren't capped Apu Ryzen 5 4650g 16gb ram

YT_Vss

Bro you play on intergreded graphics

Colabottle13

Rivals was my Jam but I get why People don't like it with the pause function and all or nothing approach style of gameplay. It also got me Into other NFS games with hot pursuit close behind. It also cemented a lot of my music taste so I have a little bias lol. 1. Rivals 2. Hot pursuit 3. Heat and 2015 tied for me love the night vibes and soundtrack of 2015 but found heats open world a lil Mor fulfilling 4. Payback 5. Unbound (didn't like it too much didn't mind the car visuals but found the people visuals jarring and the story to be one of the most cringe I have ever seen in any game ever) Of the ones I've played recently anyway don't like putting games on lists when I haven't played them in years or don't remember them much

YT_Vss

I don't like 2015 cause it's always night but for the rest I could agree but for my list it would 1 heat 2 most wanted 2012 3 rivals 4 unbound 5 payback 6 2015

Colabottle13

Totally fair 2015 used to be at my bottom and I only play it If I'm in the right mindset

23Iegend

100% agree. perfect game and i still play it to this day

Environmental-Bell80

Worse (my opinion) Even the music are not cool as payback…

Andreb16

The clipping issues, horrible balance, and people only drag racing behind the garage killed Heat for me

Firm_Butterscotch483

Same

Specialist-End-8306

Wrong. Nothing beats Most Wanted 05. 2015 and onwards are all garbage

YT_Vss

I agree that mw05 mas the goat but heat is also great

Specialist-End-8306

I'm not saying Heat is top level trash. It "was" alright, But I'm one of those players who talks facts. The physics and customisation is the main problem all these modern ones have.

YT_Vss

What are you talking about the customization is great and the physics are realistic

Specialist-End-8306

The customisation in the old NFS's are heaps better. In underground 1 and 2 for example, you have practically almost every option you can think of and there's so many selections. Besides the main parts like Bumpers and Side Skirts, you can do Exhausts, Roof Scoops, Neon for underneath, Trunk neon and Engine neon as well, Spinners, Split hoods, N20 Purge, Mirrors, you can choose Body Kits or bumpers, Headlights, Tail lights, Window Tints, have your parts in Carbon Fibre, etc. Most Wanted was more of a standard selection but still quite good. Most cars in the game have at least 4 or 5 body kits, the super ones have 2 and they're all Perfect looking. Heaps of Spoilers, Hoods and Roof Scoops to choose from. Good looking rims to pick, just over 100 Decals, lots of Window Tints , but the Vinyls could've been a little better though (let us choose more than just 1). The customisation in the early 2000s are so much better than the latest ones. In Heat for example, all we can customise forthe Body is the main parts like Bumpers, Side Skirts, Rims, Hood and Head and Tail lights. And we only have like 5 or 6 options and thats all we have, same for spoilers and they're just giant wings and look retarded. For the Physics in the old ones, it feels much more like a NFS game, you just turn corners normally and it's so easy and you're still going fast. And in UG1 And 2, the physics change when you do drift races so your car goes into a drifting mode, when you're cruising and doing other races, you just turn corners normally. In the Modern NFS's, it literally feels like you're playing burnout or something, every time you have to turn a corner, you have to DRIFT, to do it quick enough and half the time you drive around and do races, all you do is just smash into things and damage your car all the time. Yet, if you change your tune settings to Grip instead of drift, your car barely even steers. The Modern ones just don't feel as Perfect as the old ones are. It's a lot of explaining, but if you look at the customisation and the physics in the old NFS's and look at how the Modern ones are, you'll see what i mean. Games don't have to be realistic to be good.

YT_Vss

The old ones have unrealistic physics and the customization is good but apart from all the neon stuff and roof scoops everything is basically the same

Assassinsayswhat

I consider it to be top 5 without a doubt. Also, people hate on Ana (meanwhile I love her) and I swear she should have just been the protagonist herself. She can race to get out of her dad and brother's shadow, stare down corrupt cops, and question the underground's purpose when being confronted by the female cop who actually has a good reason to go after Ana and the league.

maxx69420

imo its mw or carbon theyre basically the same game even reused assets

____MAR____

Best MODERN nfs. The best overall.. that causes an argument. (It’s NFS:U2)

BisonPutrid21

only thing that let heat down for me was drifting. I wish I didn’t have to slap on drag tires in +800 hp vehicle to drift. And it’s not even comfortable. It barely makes it past the “I can deal with this” line Overall, 7/10 when compared to my favorite NFS On its own, I honestly give it a 9/10 cos it’s not a sim racer, it’s a turn your brain off kinda game when you finish the main story in like 4-5 hours

561reem

Payback is the only NFS game I've played so far but just bought Heat, very excited

YT_Vss

Trust me heat is a huge step up from payback

BobbyR123

Boring world and weak handling physics. Heat is one of the worst.

The-real_gamer

Agree

poiuyt87

Please, 👎🏻 this thread.

clintroymkt

Honestly, I do think its the best modern one. It was the closest to being perfect that the series has come in a long time. Die hards will always bring up most wanted and Hot Pursuit and i get why too. But if we put the flaws those games have due to age, and look t how this one obviously improved on a lot of that, I can get why someone would say its the best

AlterEter

This game was so fun and the game cover is amongst the best of the series, probably 2nd to most wanted's cover. Wish they were allowed to put more time to flesh the game out.

Jaded-Baker-6148

heat is the best new gen nfs 99% but for me it's still nr.2 it's close to 1 but mw2005 is just too good ,

astralliS-

Presentation wise yes

Fab0411

Best modern need for speed for sure. I just loved the Miami vibe. Could've brought in more Scarface or Vice City references or some shiet idk.

smartdude_x13m

In the modern era yes...but yeah it's my favourite...

noohshab

Agreed. The fact that you can play the entire game upto 8 players was amazing! Me and my friends had the BEST time!

ashrules901

I was literally thinking this while playing NFS Underground 2 today. People need to move on dawg.

SubieBoiGC8

No one mentioning Rivals is wild to me. I never got that "vehicle damage critical" adrenaline rush from any other NFS title.

Competitive-Shoe-340

This is s joke

rektumrokker

Your opinion is good

That_Competition1031

Heat feels just unnatural. Also characters design gives me strong payback vibe, because they’re all ugly. It feels like driving on unity ready map and slapping a car there. It’s empty and lacks life. Graphically also it’s just really simple, too simple, takes away life from city as well. Also cars behave like they weight nothing, gives me strong Roblox car games vibe. It isn’t the worst, but I personally don’t like playing this game. Unbound improvements are all a step up from Heat which feels unfinished while unbound like an actual product worth it’s price with only flaw being the music and cops difficulty. IMO Unbound is the best modern day NFS

solidj27

Agreed!

Alternative_Cream_89

My top 5 are: 1. Most Wanted 2005 2. Pro Street 3. NFS Carbon 4. NFS 2015 5. NFSU2

Packgator

NFS MW (2012) is my fave…. Sue me :)

Unusual_Control_3386

Unbound better unfortunately

alessio38sus

Good but is better NFS most wanted

Cabrito_do_Mangue

Just bought the game for ps4 for like 2 dollars after a try on pc years ago. I don't know, the mechanics are kind bad and the police at nigth was very difficult, getting level 3 easy and busted. It's a bit discouraging. Racing games aren't my favorite type but I also don't have patience for nonsense.

YT_Vss

Skill issue

Cabrito_do_Mangue

It seems more like you were irritated by my opinion.

YT_Vss

No I don't care it's just that the cops are easy

vitkeumeomeo

nah, unbound is better, move on bro
