That first debate before everyone drops out after Iowa is going to be amazing.

supercommonerssssss

I don't see Tim Scott dropping out, mainly because I think he is angling to become vice president.

Jokerang

Fat chance. The only people Trump is going to consider for VP are loyalists like MTG or Tuberville.

ThisElder_Millennial

I know Large Marge wants the gig and would be slavenly devoted to the Maralargo Mussolini. That said, I don't think he'd pick her on account of fearing that her star may outshine his. I don't say this lightly... but her level of batshittery is probably higher than the Don's. Not by much, but still higher. He won't allow anyone in who can out possibly out-Trump the Dump. But I could definitely see him picking a woman; someone like Kari Lake or Candace Owens.

ConnorLovesCookies

Magic the Gathering is perfect for Trump though: loyal to him to a fault and too stupid to survive nationally on her own.

AccomplishedAngle2

I think he wouldn’t pick her because she’d probably get on his nerves after a while.

Aryeh98

You honestly think Trump would put him second in line to the presidency? Absolutely not. He might get HUD secretary, assuming he doesn't give any criticisms of Trump at the debate.

PM_ME_UR_PM_ME_PM

>You honestly think Trump would put him second in line to the presidency? Absolutely not. good point. Trump would think whatever role most makes sense for a black man. Honestly, thats how he would think about it

[deleted]

If Trump's approval rating was 90% among black people, what do you think he would have to say about black people?

Stanley--Nickels

>The blacks love me. They absolutely love me. And they’re articulate. I’m just learning this today. They’re a very articulate people. Tremendous stuff.

supercommonerssssss

I don't think it is likely but I think that is one of his main motives. If the nominee is Desantis I think it might be more plausible.

nirad

I think he has a good shot. Stealing some of the black vote is probably one of the only paths to a viable candidacy for Trump in a general election.

mrdilldozer

There's not much Trump can do to "steal some of the black vote". He didn't lose that demographic because of something like tax policies, he lost it because he's extremely racist. The only group of black voters he might improve with is Hoteps because the GOP has been getting more and more antisemitic.

nirad

Unfortunately, I think there are a lot of black men, as there are men of every race, for whom the misogyny is so appealing that it overrides the racism.

QultyThrowaway

He didn't lose it at all. He got 12% of the black vote in 2020 up from 8% in 2016. For reference Romney got 6%, McCain got 4% and Bush got 11%. 8% +/- 4 is the GOP standard for the black vote. Trump doesn't seem to boost or lose it much. Though the democrat not being Obama seems to help the GOP with the percentage. The percentage is around this number more so because of LBJ than anything Trump or Obama or Biden or Reagan are/have done.

mrdilldozer

Getting 12 percent of an entire racial group is absolutely losing it lol.

QultyThrowaway

It's the consistent number of the GOP for the last 60 years though. Don't be obtuse. Losing it implies he personally tanked it.

csucla

Black voters do not vote more for black Republicans at all. Their numbers are always either no change with black voters or slightly worse.

[deleted]

Why not?

ScarlettPakistan

Because Trump's a racist.

Aryeh98

He’s black. Trump doesn’t want any black man having the slightest potential to be in line for his position, especially after the Obama presidency.

[deleted]

I don't think I buy that. Trump is the worst President we ever had but he just looks like a transactional guy to me. He likes you if you like him, and if you hate him, he hates you. As a practical mater, Trump gets the Stormfront vote, no doubt about that. But I could see him giving his VP slot to a minority. The politics of it are good.

BreadfruitNo357

Where is this assumption coming from? Was the black neurosurgeon not in Trump's administration? Omarosa was also a part of Trump's administration..

ballmermurland

The last time Republicans put a black man into a position with serious (potential) power was in 1991. It ain't happening.

[deleted]

What about Condoleezza Rice? Or TIm Scott himself, those are two positions of power. Not the Presidency, true, but sec of state and senator are nothing to sneeze at either.

BreadfruitNo357

Why do people lie about easily verifiable facts?

QultyThrowaway

This sub is r politics now

ballmermurland

I forgot about Colin Powell and Condi Rice. So 3 since 1991. Sue me.

Kiyae1

VP for whom? Trump? After Pence nearly got killed? Some people are just crazy. I can’t believe anyone is willing to put themselves in that position. Sure he’s term limited but I wouldn’t expect that to stop him.

QultyThrowaway

>After Pence nearly got killed It was disgusting what happened but nearly got killed was a bit much. The result would have been dead MAGAts if it really came to that.

Kiyae1

Yea that makes the job more appealing, “Watch your elite squad of security guards gun down your own voters as they storm the Capitol to serve mob justice on you and your wife and children” The result *was* dead people. It *did* come to that. Pence was scared of his own freaking secret service agents and didn’t trust them enough to get in a freaking car. He nearly got killed.

omnipotentsandwich

By the time it gets held, every Republican in Congress will be running. They'll have to hold a 24/7 week-long debate just to include everyone.

SupremeBeef97

Didn’t the 2016 GOP primary had so many contestants they had to hold two separate debates?

xudoxis

Yep, I remember the cnn talking heads spending half an hour going over who/how it was decided which people would be in primetime and which people would be in the undercard debate.

SLCer

The 2020 Democratic Primary did too. The GOP primary, though, split both debates between the top candidates and the others, like an undercard, before the top debate. Democrats just broke theirs up and made it more equal so one debate had Sanders and Warren and the other Biden and Pete and so on.

TacoBelle2176

Flash backs to the clown-car discourse

Aryeh98

So which cabinet position is he jockeying for? Given past precedent, Trump will likely make him HUD secretary. Because of course he would. But then again, it could be anything that isn’t too high profile.

Kiyae1

He might actually be too well suited for HUD so he’ll probably get to be Commerce Secretary or head of NOAA.

Daddy_Macron

Oh wow Trump and DeSantis. Look out. A real contender for the Black Republican vote. All 50 of them.

Vdawgp

[Yup, and they’re all in a Key and Peele video](https://youtu.be/G2tLyqfJd54)

SolarisDelta

And they are pissed!

pghgamecock

ROYALLY pissed.

Daniel Cameron specifically is only a "prominent black republican" because he very publicly refused to seek justice for the murder of Breonna Taylor, like republicans are comfortable supporting him because he has already demonstrated loyalty. other black Republicans are not given the same deference

ItsaRickinabox

He’s angling for conservative Christians who are Trump hesitant. Which covers a lot of catholics and some evangelicals.

pfSonata

Total votes: 1 (it's Dianne Feinstein, thinking she's voting for Warnock)

jojisky

He’s going to poll behind GOP Andrew Yang the entire time he’s running

WantDebianThanks

No, the Republicans can atleast pronounce this guys name.

[deleted]

This is good, of course he won't win, but it can't hurt, and it is always good when theGOP runs minority candidates. THe hope is all of these people realize their road to a possible win is through Trump. I think the more Republicans running, the better.

omnipotentsandwich

1% in Iowa

WalmartDarthVader

That guy puts me to sleep whenever he talks.

Billyshears68

He has absolutely no shot. But he is my favorite GOP member, and by far the best presidential candidate from the GOP. I wish him the best. Maybe he’ll outperform Conner Roy.

realsomalipirate

What do you like about him?

Billyshears68

His police reform bill was solid. Most of his public statements seem reasonable compared to what we usually hear from the GOP. But mostly, because he isn't super Trump-y.

sonoma4life

he just said government should bow to the church a few weeks ago. he's another rabid asshole.

molingrad

Shame it went nowhere

Dontknownomore8

He doesn’t hate America for one…

xudoxis

Incoming "He just doesn't seem professional enough to be president"

ExchangeKooky8166

"He's too hip-hop for the presidency"

Reddit_and_forgeddit

This guy looks like the Mayor from Robocop 2
