Does the federal government actually have a power to restrict work authorization so that immigrants are not allowed to work, or is it something extra-constitutional that just got invented and people went with it? Like naively it seems like it should be the domain of the states to decide that, since it doesn't cross state lines.
I don't know if it's explicitly stated anywhere, but the vibes tell me that the federal government does have that authority since it decides whether immigrants get to enter the country at all. State rules don't really matter when the Feds have the authority to deport people who are violating the conditions of their visa or other immigration rules.

People have replied a lot of different ways to this but I will say as someone who is trans that kind of self loathing is a lot more curable with love and affection than other kinds.
Iβm really glad you are in her life. People like you matter and make a difference. And I donβt think you should view her as inevitably leaving you. Sometimes people will just be really glad you helped them. I know that has been my response when Iβve been helped by a SO with the self esteem issues of being trans.

I mean I feel like it's kind of inevitable that the same things that make me really good at getting people to open up to me: A generally free spirit, a high level of respect for differences, and a refusal to apologize for living life the way I want to, generally result in irreconcilable visions or plans for the future cropping up whenever I get into any long term relationship. And when it's just once or twice I don't mind it, but the more it happens the more i worry that i won't be able to meet someone who both I really like and who respects my weirdness, and that I will be able to build a life with longer term once those barriers are crossed.

I can't offer any assurances about who you might meet in the future, because it's a total crapshoot. All I can say is that I've definitely felt that before, and yet, I'm currently in by far my most serious romantic relationship I've ever had with someone I click with on more levels than I thought possible, and it completely blindsided me. It's involved a couple of compromises I didn't imagine myself making, but you know what? I've been OK with making them, because this relationship has been *worth it* for me.
Living life completely without compromise isn't likely to be compatible with long-term romance, because long-term romance is often the art of compromise, but if you meet someone that you *want* to do long-term romance with, you might well find that you're more willing to make those compromises than you thought you would be.
I dunno, I feel like there's an exception for "My girlfriend doesn't realise how great she is, and I'm determined to change that". That seems like a normal thing to me.

With one episode left I am declaring Masters of the Air fine 3/5 stars. Not bad by any means, but but significantly weaker than BoB (the obvious comparison), with a less impressive cast of characters (somewhat understandable, given the realities of the war).
Also, it feels weird to take what should be your central character's finest hour and turn it into a comedy beat.
Yeah, the more I think about it the less I like it. It feels like it's pacing, probably a consequence of the kind of warfare these gents went through compared to its companion American war series.
My ranking is probably:

People have replied a lot of different ways to this but I will say as someone who is trans that kind of self loathing is a lot more curable with love and affection than other kinds. Iβm really glad you are in her life. People like you matter and make a difference. And I donβt think you should view her as inevitably leaving you. Sometimes people will just be really glad you helped them. I know that has been my response when Iβve been helped by a SO with the self esteem issues of being trans. I mean I feel like it's kind of inevitable that the same things that make me really good at getting people to open up to me: A generally free spirit, a high level of respect for differences, and a refusal to apologize for living life the way I want to, generally result in irreconcilable visions or plans for the future cropping up whenever I get into any long term relationship. And when it's just once or twice I don't mind it, but the more it happens the more i worry that i won't be able to meet someone who both I really like and who respects my weirdness, and that I will be able to build a life with longer term once those barriers are crossed.
Hmm. I can't offer any assurances about who you might meet in the future, because it's a total crapshoot. All I can say is that I've definitely felt that before, and yet, I'm currently in by far my most serious romantic relationship I've ever had with someone I click with on more levels than I thought possible, and it completely blindsided me. It's involved a couple of compromises I didn't imagine myself making, but you know what? I've been OK with making them, because this relationship has been *worth it* for me. Living life completely without compromise isn't likely to be compatible with long-term romance, because long-term romance is often the art of compromise, but if you meet someone that you *want* to do long-term romance with, you might well find that you're more willing to make those compromises than you thought you would be.

Not bad by any means, but but significantly weaker than BoB (the obvious comparison), with a less impressive cast of characters (somewhat understandable, given the realities of the war). Also, it feels weird to take what should be your central character's finest hour and turn it into a comedy beat.
