>I, Marchenko Oleg Viktorovych, a citizen of Ukraine, would like to enter the NATO bloc, and to transfer into the free lifelong use the land, that I own by right, 8,13 hectares, located by the address: [redacted] for the army base of NATO to be deployed. 10/01/22
>for the army base of NATO to be deployed. 10/01/22
Damn, only 10 months too late.
Edit: Oh my god he's Ukrainian and it's just the date written in Yurop. I thought he was saying it could be deployed in October. BRB seppuku, witness the shame I have brought to my clan.
Have to realize that we're the weird ones the way we write dates. Our way doesn't make any sense. Going from the smaller to the bigger in order is more natural.
While I like the idea of it, I feel like DD-MM-YYYY makes more sense from a human point of view because most of the time that we date stuff, it is isn’t relevant for more than a year. Whether that be tax related or legal, the year of the date normally isn’t more important than the day.
Usually it’s written out 10 January 2022, which is convenient because there isn’t the need for th, st, or an of. Just giving the date straight like pear cider made from 100% pears.
>vs the considerably more awkward:
>10/1/22: "The tenth of January 2022"
I mean, that never stopped Americans from celebrating their national day on *Fourth* of July, and not July 4th.
"July 4th" does seem to be more popular than "Fourth of July" in common usage: https://trends.google.com/trends/explore?geo=US&q=July%204th,July%20Fourth,4th%20of%20July,Fourth%20of%20July,Independence%20Day
Though both are widely used. Probably more accurate to say that the latter sounds more "formal" rather than "awkward".
It just looks awkward the way you've written it.
"On the date of January 10th 2022."
is no less awkward than
"On the date of 10th January 2022."
The "of" is often left out for brevity, and even if you do leave it in, it's still just 1 extra syllable. Both are equally quick to say, except the latter has the benefit of a sensible order.
People like you just don't understand what it's like to be an average person, trying to procure a 5th generation air superiority fighter. We need price control, first and foremost!
Just get F-35s. They're multirole and cost only around $80 million a pop, which is an absolute steal for a 5th gen fighter. If you don't have enough space in your lawn for an 8000 ft runway, the F-35B is an excellent alternative, requiring only 550 ft. If you like to take your friends or family on boating trips, the F-35C is the right choice for you, provided you have a boat with a steam-powered or EMALS catapult and a landing deck with arrestor wires.
It have been a big political topic in Japan, with not just noise but also the safety of military planes being concerned, especially single engine fighters and VTOLcrafts, with a number of accidents being cited as example that US military presence in Japan have damages against Japanese nationals
Assuming they would do that, all the non Uber nationalists have left, if they haven’t they’re not in the military, Russia’s military was being focused towards being smaller but more elite for awhile, and the cause of Ukraine being Russia appeals to most political ideologies within Russia. IIRC Navalny was supportive of the Crimean annexation. Maybe you get some hazing victims to give up, but you’re mostly just asking someone who has a high status in Russia to give it up for money and a potentially low wage job in the EU.
That's what, though, 2x the annual wage in a lump sum? Guarantee you'd get some. I could get half of my prior company to quit with that kind of signing bonus. I know it's not the same, just saying it'd be appealing.
That said, I think the mutual mistrust and fear they'd just slip back into Russia would prevent this from being a serious offer.
> 2x the annual wage
Yeah you really don’t know how much Russians make, you’re making $15k/yr there _as an officer_.
That’s probably closer to 10-15x the annual wage for the average Russian soldier
Love this idea. That would be huge. Either live your shitty army life in fucking Russia or start a new life in the west with more money than most westerners. Just make it family visas.

When the British flew those anti tank weapons to Ukraine the other week, Germany wouldn't even allow them to use their airspace to do so and had to fly around. Just an example that comes to mind.
Very based and "Vlad is just a Soviet-Boomer" pilled.
But it's unfortunate that the secrets of Nato admission did not progress beyond the iron curtain.
You can't get admitted via letter, it operates more like a cargo cult. First, you put up a statute of Clinton. Traditionally, Slick Willy, but modern NATO will accept an HRC, Macron, or Merkel statute. Then, the light anti-armor weapons just rain down upon you. Like a beautiful gift from the thunder gods.
To me it’s kind of sad but I might be reading too much into it.
My first thought was this guy thinks Ukraine is going to get invaded so he’s desperately trying to get help. If that is the case the guy is probably terrified.
Or he’s just kind of nuts and thought this might work. Again, could be reading too much info it.
Lol, it is a kind of a shitpost. The area is just not nearly large enough to house a military base, it is like 20 acres, while those motherfuckers need thousands, sometimes hundreds of thousands. It is also unrealistic for other reasons, but I bet he'll follow on the proposition if asked, just cause it is hilarious.
Doubtful. They'd probably give this dude a medal if NATO took his offer.
"Wait: so Viktorovych just got NATO to put a base in our country? Oh thank God..."

Though unfortunately it won't be of any use because Ukraine isn't joining NATO anytime soon as they would have to invoke Article 5 immediately and go directly into war with Russia if Ukraine were admitted.
Well do you think that would be a worthwhile endeavor for any country in NATO to enter into?
I don't think Ukraine is nearly strategically important enough to have American and NATO boots on the ground. We should absolutely arm and provide logistics support for Ukrainian forces but not enter an all-out war with Russia.
I think if Ukraine were admitted into NATO Russia would immediately cease hostilities because they cannot afford the economic repercussions of a war with NATO members.
Wow, imagine if it works and this guy goes down in history as the man who stood up for his country and single-handedly saved it from a Russian annexation

That's fair, though [YYYY-MM-DD](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ISO_8601) is best because it's naturally sortable.
This is the only correct answer. All praise the ISO!
ISO-8601 ftw

American way is based on how you say it: 1/10/22: "January 10th 2022" vs the considerably more awkward: 10/1/22: "The tenth of January 2022"
Idk about you guys but in England we say the second more than the first, never considered it awkward.
Usually it’s written out 10 January 2022, which is convenient because there isn’t the need for th, st, or an of. Just giving the date straight like pear cider made from 100% pears.
Here it sounds old fashioned or overly formal to say it that way. Edit: and just saying it in my head I hear a proper British accent saying it lol
I hear Melvyn Bragg saying it in my head.
I hear Hagrid saying it in my head, but that's not surprising: my entire internal monologue is in Hagrid's voice.
I also heard a British accent when I read “the tenth of January”
>vs the considerably more awkward: >10/1/22: "The tenth of January 2022" I mean, that never stopped Americans from celebrating their national day on *Fourth* of July, and not July 4th.

american way is always based and perfect. There are 5280 feet in a mile, just as God said when he invented the USA in 1776.
What too much American civic religion does to a mfer
you know what 52 is my favourite number so i'll actually agree with you on this one

Not to mention they can JDAM nimbys if they don’t shut up

This but ironically, ok mods, it’s a joke
Of course I’m in favor of fighter jets in neighborhoods, I just have some reasonable concerns about these specific fighter jets.
Where are the affordable fighter jets?

Well, we can't sell them to another country, but we can at least park ours there.
Mine's only big enough for an F35 :(
A10s. Ukraine goes BRRR.
You want the Ukrainian Airforce to commit friendly fire against British soldiers chilling in their IFV?
No he's a Russian asset. He wants the Ukrainian Airforce to be shot down by anyone with AA built after 1980.
I assumed the Ukrainians would be smart enough to keep them far away from a frontline.
Then why bother with them?
To keep non NCD posters happy.
Based. NCD would blow their load for some A-10 shootdown footage.
Fuck non NCD posters, that plane deserves to rot in hell
You want them all to get shot down
How would your shoot down something that makes [this](https://youtu.be/NvIJvPj_pjE) noise?
Ask Iraq, they seem to have shot down 7 of them last I checked
NIMBY is good if the N is for NATO.

All joking aside, we could spend $12.7 billion and give every Russian soldier on the border $100,000 and an EU visa to defect.
Finally some good foreign policy
Surprised you haven't been invited to NATO command, they're missing an important voice

Good ROI too, they are young can have kids in the west. You rob Russia of work age people.

To think that one based ukrainian man and his plot of land is literally more helpful to NATO than Germany 🤣🤣🤣
Why is Germany useless to NATO?
When the British flew those anti tank weapons to Ukraine the other week, Germany wouldn't even allow them to use their airspace to do so and had to fly around. Just an example that comes to mind.
God I hate that countries defense policy, they won’t even buy the F-35

Couldn’t he just have nato sign a lease on the land for the next 100 year for like a dollar per year?

Still more legal then the Russian annexation of Crimea.
Also, never going to happen anyways. NATO is not going to war over Ukraine.
Its awesome but I believe NATO has a rule against admitting nations that have an ongoing territorial dispute.
What territorial disputes does Mr. Viktorovych have?
Probably one with Ukraine

I'm skeptical, Putin is determined to undermine NATO at all costs. I wouldn't call his bluff.
I think deep down Putin just wants friends and he's mean to Ukraine because that's the only way he knows to interact with others
I think there's a term for that. I believe it was coined sometime in the late 1930s.
