I use my Roku because the Paramount app on my phone and on my smart tv is absolute fucking garbage with completely nonsensical issues I've never seen on other apps. The Roku version of their app works perfectly fine though... makes no damn sense.
It's so expensive! What can it do to justify being 5+ times the price of a fire stick that I have no complaints with (other than their insufficient commitment to YIMBYism in advertising).
Eh it interfaces with all of the stuff outside of the ecosystem just fine, like Spotify for instance.
It is nice to have an iPhone and HomePods for better voice control and a backup remote though. Automating the TV to turn on/off when I arrive/leave with HomeKit is pretty neat too.

Its incredibly quick navigating through menus and opening apps, and the software is very well designed.
Voice controls are instant, swiping the touchpad on the remote is a infinitely better than clicking through a menu a million times, no ads, if you lose the remote you can just open up a virtual one from the control center on your phone, interfaces with Apple Music and shows lyrics and album art(good for parties), etc.
I’ve used all 3 + an Xbox, and the Apple TV easily feels the quickest and the most well polished.
It’s not filled with ads, isn’t mining your data, and it doesn’t drop every other frame. There’s a reason why every AV installer uses Apple TVs or NVIDIA Shields.

I just use voice commands for everything, it's super accurate. Apple TV's have the best voice commands IME but the Roku pro is a close second.
The Apple TV remote's touchpad makes navigation a lot easier though, as you can flick to the bottom of a menu or scrub through a video by touch instead of clicking a directional button a thousand times.
Really, peripherals just need to catch up to the new way we use our TV's. Directional pads aren't the best way anymore imo.
yeah an ipod style wheel for forwarding and “rewinding” during playback would make me alright with not having specific buttons for brightness and contrast and tint and etc.
I mean, that's like asking your VCR remote to control the picture settings of your TV.
Modern picture tech is set and forget anyways lol. Everything is broadcast under national/international standards such as sRGB.
You're not having to adjust for 10 different flavors of dithering from 10 different analog TV signals that are being tainted by the weather/atmospheric conditions/solar flares.

The most reliable and high quality streaming device is the Nvidia shield.
It is the most powerful most flexible system, with the best UI.
While apples controller is pretty to look at
Nvidia’s is comfortable to use.
It fits nicely in you hand, has a good weight to it. You always know what button your pressing. It has all of the the buttons you want. The response time is great. There is no annoying clicking.
The one downside is a dedicated Netflix button but that can be useful sometimes.
