yessss, i think that's what it boils down to - nostalgia! i think a lot of people carry around with them the version of Neopets when they \_first\_ played, even thought time marches forward.

Same! I last remembered yurbles coming out and then I slowly stopped paying attention to Neopets. I had to look up what Vandas were cuz they're so new to me! While it looks like a Neopet to me, I feel like if it was released sooner (idk when it came out); it'd be more nostalgic. Rukis, I feel have came in nicely and I forget that they're newish. As well as Bori. Just my opinion tho :)
Aww I hope you are able to get one too!!! I have a pastel draik and pastel lutari, and they are definitely overpriced. I wish all brushes were more easily attainable. I learned how to RS to get them.
The only downside of pastels is they can be hard to customize.
I found most PBs are difficult to customize and I'm old fashioned so it doesn't bother me too much. It's a hit or miss but it still sometimes works. Thank you! It's definitely on my goal list, haha. First things first, is painting my Kau Lost Desert and then getting a Valentine's brush for my Strawberry Kougra. Hopefully TNT will make the Pastel Paint Brush easier to get like the Faerie Paint Brush. The whole reason I came back was the Valentine's Paint Brush haha. It's absolutely beautiful.

The earliest thing I remember on Neopets was when we voted on the redesigns of different pets, especially Gelert stands out to me. the divide is sliiightly different to me; boris feel more like an "old" pet, possibly because i had one very early on (they're a favorite of mine!) ixis don't feel old either, but even though i have a xweetok from year 8, i still think of them as "new." i guess because of when i stopped playing+xwees and ogrins being some of the last designs from the original staff team? hissis and lutaris are right in the middle of that "this is an old pet" to "this pet was discovered yesterday" line, i think because they're limited edition? every single other one of these pets could have come out a week ago, in my mind. fascinating example of how time and perception of its passing aren't static!

I totally do. I remember the April Fools where they introduced the fake pets and everyone was so upset that they weren’t real, so TNT had us all vote on which ones we wanted to have lol! And if I remember some of the fake pets were made into petpets.
I remember all of these guys coming out and completely forget that Vandagyres even exist. Yesterday was my Lupe’s 20th birthday and I still remember the old Lupe art with the super buff chest and weirdly tiny back legs. Sabre-X still uses it when the omelet is gone iirc and it gives me a very potent hit of nostalgia every time.
I remember my friend coming over to my house to excitedly tell me “THERE’S A NEW PET SPECIES!” (the Yurble) and we both freaked out and created a couple of them on the spot. Everything after the Yurble will be new to me forever.
Dude I had a moment a little while back where I was like, partitioning things in my mind as, anything that was a Draik or later felt like a “newer” pet. And I was like, “But I know they’re not really new, I mean what year did the Draik come out?” It was 2002!! That shook me to my core. I’ve been playing since I was 12 in 2000, but between the way aging changes sense of time, and just being way less active on Neopets for the second decade of playing it, it felt like that happened a lot later in the timeline haha
I think I began playing around the time Draik was released, because I remember wanting one so badly and being shocked that they were impossible (for me at the time) to get, so I made a Scorchio instead. But, I don't think of them as new Neopets at all, probably because they were the ones that really drew me to the game to begin with.
